Marcia (4/5): - The concept of an earth inn is a cool idea. However, there was no soap, no tissues, barely lighted. It was in poor condition.

Kanise (4/5): Not great - Have stayed here a few years ago, sad to say it’s gone downhill. Holes in the wall, barely any furniture in the rooms, there was no dresser or tv stand, just a sheet of plywood mounted on brackets. The ceiling fan had a cord running across the ceiling and down the wall to the extension cord that was dangling from the plug for the tv with a bunch of other stuff plugged into it. Never stayed anywhere quite like that before. Didn’t feel very clean or cozy in the rooms. The door didn’t latch, so had to always use the deadbolt to keep it closed. Didn’t feel very safe with my kids. Ended up cancelling our booking for our return trip home and staying somewhere else.
Pamela (6/5): - The property was not in great condition. The staff were not available when I arrived. After ringing a bell to get staff’s attention I waited wondering if anyone was there. When staff came they were talking on the phone and continued to talk on the phone while I waited. After initial check-in, I then had to wait to receive a key for my room. The room was okay.
David (10/5): - This place is not for everyone but I love it. I have stayed here multiple times and it's always been a great experience. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Not much by way of added perks but a great place to get a good nights sleep and a nice shower.

Stanley (2/5): Safety doesn’t apply here. - Check in was horrendous and took forever. We had 3 rooms and one of us was given keys to a room that was occupied. They were then given a key to another occupied room. I was given a room with dirty towels thrown on a cabinet. I was then shown several rooms and told to pick ones . A lot of keys thrown around with little security. No one should provide internet service for this hotel as there is a lack of security and carelessness with patrons keys.

Mike (2/5): The place is a scam - No has out dated curtains fell off the wall no screen in the window no toilet paper no cable place was a crap hole and they charged me a extra $200 I want my $200 back I'm not paying for curtains falling off the wall cus you don't no how to put Sheetrock anckers in. It doesn't look like it's the first time they fell off for how big of a hole was in stat area.
Mitchell (2/5): - Arrived at 6:45 pm to check in. Outside office door propped open with a pail. Sign said ring door bell. Rang it twice. Young ( maybe 8 years old) boy shows up. Asked a couple questions and got no response. Either didn’t understand or couldn’t speak. Never found, saw, or spoke to an adult. Definitely not a functional motel at this time. And Human services should check on the boy
Nick (2/5): Worst hotel booking ever - Worst hotel situation ive ever had. Says everywhere that check-in time is 3pm to midnight, was there at 930pm and the place had all the lights off at the front desk, there was no one there and no one answered. Then spent almost 2 hours playing the run around game with someone from hotels.com customer service before they wanted to transfer me to a different hotel over an hr away, never booking through this site again was extremely unprpfessional all the way around
Mary (10/5): - The building itself is so unique. The owners are so kind and helpful. Goes beyond themselves to make your stay great. The housekeeping is great, so clean! Will stay everytime i come there. Which is often. This was my third stay.
Danny (6/5): A little disappointed - Overall the property is decent. I picked the property because I am on a fixed income and it was the most economical place in the area. When I checked in I didn't have my reading glasses with me so I signed the receipt without seeing the total charge but quickly realized they were charging me 11 dollars and some change more than my guaranteed reservation was booked for. The lady apologized but claimed to not know how to refund the money. She was very polite but as I mentioned I am living on a fixed income and every little bit can make a difference so it was pretty disappointing. Even though the stay was acceptable I don't plan on staying there again.
drjudo (2/5): Avoid at all costs. Possible scam of reserving through Booking. - Firstly I did not stay here. I tried to, but the people running the place had different ideas. I made a non-refundable, pay-at-property reservation through Booking.com. I’d driven over 400 miles en route to staying here so imagine my surprise when I arrived to be told they were full (actually one room that they were holding for someone else)! They wouldn’t honour my confirmed reservation. They said they couldn’t see Booking.com reservations as they didn’t have a computer, and that they shouldn’t be on Booking.com anyway. I had to drive around town late evening looking for a walk-in and ended up paying $70 more. I’ve complained to Booking.com but will be looking to make sure the motel doesn’t charge my credit card. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.

Booked this motel when visiting Jackson in April 202 I asked to see the room 1st because of the filthy entrance to check in. FILTHY, OLD FURNISHINGS & REPAIRS DESPERATELY NEEDED. TV WIRES HANGING & TV NOT WORKING. BED MATTRESS OLD & BED FRAM CREAKY. I am originally from Jackson & this motel is an embarrassment! Close it down or fix it up to be acceptable. Someone should check every room!

JustANormalDude00 (6/5): Pretty ok - If you are coming here you need to keep in mind it’s a MOTEL it’s not a Hilton, the rooms are ok, not fantastic but ok, the beds are decent, but if you are 6ft or taller then find somewhere else to stay, im a tall fella and I had to end up sleeping diagonally. The outside is cute and there is a gas station extremely close and very convenient, along with the extensive amount of parking. Bottom line is, it’s a motel, it’s a cozy place to sleep just for a night. Not a vacation spot.
Goldendoodle56 (10/5): My stay at Earth Inn Jackson Minnesota - My fiancé and I had been looking for hotels all day. we then looked up hotels in Jackson MN. That’s when we decided to stop for 1 night because we had been driving all day back from South Dakota Rapid City to go home and we saw this place called Earth Inn. The prices are very reasonable And the young gentleman very friendly and inviting. The rooms were spectacular very clean and very well taken care of. The beds were really comfortable and the room is very old style feeling with the wood floors I love it especially the fire place. I would come back most bang for my buck !! Love that is pet friendly most places are not so that was a big plus for us.
Pam (2/5): Closing for good reason - After making a booking on hotels.com we arrived to find no one at the hotel. We called a number posted and they said they told Hotels.com to stop booking because they were closing. We were then directed to find the cleaning lady to see if there was a room. She showed us one but we declined and the entire place was dark and smelled damp and moldy and the floor was squishy. This place is not adorable. It’s disgusting.
emholly (4/5): So disappointing - This used to be one of our favorites - cute and quirky but it has really gone down hill. Refused the first room because there was a droopy sheet across the window - no curtain or rod. Light fixtures missing light bulbs, broken blinds. No A/C. Staff was as helpful as she could be but didn't have much to work with. Just sad. On the plus side, good hot water and big parking lot. Dairy Queen and gas station next door and easy access to I90.

Patrick (4/5): Dreary, bad wifi, poor service, missed opportunity - Sadly the motel doesn't live up to its potential. The common areas are dreary, to say the least - dimly lit, poorly maintained - offering an off putting first impression. There was music piped into the hallway with a speaker oh so perfectly aimed at my door - I was treated to that all night. The room itself showed an attempt to actually be cute, with a back-woods theme and custom painting that showed at one point someone was at least trying. The effect was completely ruined, however, by an over-abundance of warning - practically threatening - signs. Do not smoke or we'll prosecute you and that will destroy your hope of ever holding a job again. Do not wash dishes. Do not cook in your room because our pest control bill is already too high. Etc, etc. I have never stayed in a place with so many postings in so many places threatening its guests... When I tried to connect to the wi-fi, the signal was weak and coming in and out. Clearly this was a known problem as their were two wifi-extenders also listed, but they had different passwords. I called the front desk for help and was told it was just the one wi-fi, the password was in the room, and hung up on me while I asked about the extenders listed. The electrical outlets were so worn that a cell phone charger wouldn't stay plugged in. In the end of all, it was a bed for a night. But I bet for only a few dollars more I could have stayed at a place that didn't presume I was a criminal and actually had wifi that worked.

vincent (6/5): - First impressions are not good. I thought I had made a huge mistake making a reservation there. You enter thru a storm door that has been patched up. The stairs need work. You have to go thru 2 doors to get to the inside hallway which is very dark. The room itself wasn't bad. Seemed clean enough. The mattress is lumpy. I couldn't find a thermostat and only saw 3 vents in the floor near the exterior wall. Must be some kind of central heat and air? Everything was unplugged. It was very quiet. I'd say it was a throwback to the 70's or 80's.

One wall outlet available for use you would have to set what you plugged in on the floor. The room had an adjoining door to the next room to make it a suite which was closed and locked, but you could hear normal levels of conversation from the adjoining room as if they were in your room. We were just going to spend the night but decided it was not for us. We moved on. There were car’s from many states in the lot so they must have found the property acceptable. We did not.

Felt like i was staying at a friends house for the weekend, Personnel fit in to the funky nature of the place not bad as they are very accommodating minor check-in problem but overall a great place to stay One problem is it is hard to see from the hwy, as it is behind a restaurant

Henry (2/5): Hotel horror! - It was the worst nightmare of a hotel that I've ever experienced. I have trouble understanding the 5 stars that were given and like to know how much these people were paid to lie. Besides being dark and damp, the AC had no visible controls. We almost froze to death. We tried to consult the receptionist but she was no where to be found. We finally had to resort to covering the 3 floor vents so we can survive the night. Everything in there was dirty. Couldn't wait to get out. This hotel deserves a minus rating and should be condemned.

757tedt (10/5): Great value for a clean, quiet place to stay - The staff were friendly and helpful. The decorating was original and artful. Because the rooms are mostly underground there's little road noise. The bathrooms were clean and the shower had euro-style dispensers of liquid soap and shampoo. It felt there was radiant heat in the floors. If you love Clean, Quiet and Frugal, this place is for you!

Teresa_P_Reid (4/5): Wanted to Like this More Than I Did - I love unique and eclectic places and have always loved underground homes. From the reviews I'd read this place seemed to fit the bill and I was really looking forward to the stay, especially at what I thought was a reasonable $50/night. When we arrived, there was no one in the lobby to greet us and a sign told us to call a phone number if we needed to check in. After returning to our car to get our phones, a flustered lady appeared with a phone to her ear which she did not hang up. We felt as though we were interrupting her call. She seemed irritated when she couldn't find the reservation we'd made a week or so earlier and seemed a bit put out when she told her caller that she'd have to call back because she needed to find us a room. She told the caller she loved them, so it appeared to be a personal call rather than professional. The only hallway to the rooms was dimly lit, rather eerie and it was difficult to see the door knob until our eyes adjusted. Entering the room, we had mixed emotions. It appeared that the owners had put in some work trying to incorporate some modern artistic paint elements, but it sort of clashed with the woodsy themed wallpaper border. As we walked into the room, both of us looked at each other as the laminate flooring was extremely soft and we wondered if we weren't going to go right through it. The room, like the hallway, was also dark. If I recall correctly we got one light between the beds to work, but the main light in the room, had a cord that was not plugged in and stopped several inches shy of the outlet, so there was no way to turn it on. There was also no heater in the room. They had a tall stand alone heater, but after trying every possible setting, we could only get it to blow cold air. Our reservation had also said we were getting two queen beds, but our room had two full beds. My husband is a large man and we share a queen bed at home. We were unable to fit together in one of these beds and ultimately had to sleep separately that night. There were only 2 tissues left in the box and no backup provided. The shampoo dispenser was located very high on the wall above the shower. Only being 5' and having had shoulder surgery, it was a stretch for me to reach. When we exited the far end of the building, it was wet and appeared there was water seepage into the area. The final issue was the sheer number of signs all over the room: how to operate window blinds, door knobs that lock behind you, hot water, no cooking, only being allowed to use paper plates, and instructions to not put tissues in the peep hole because they weren't watching you, etc etc etc... They also had rags labeled to be used for cleaning your dishes, shoes, baby bottoms or removing makeup. Like I want to remove my makeup with a straggly rag that last cleaned a baby's bottom?? The area surrounding the motel also appeared quite depressed. Although my hubby said he got a good night sleep here, sadly we would look elsewhere if in the area again. .

The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. The desk clerk (might have been the owner) was very friendly and helpful. It was perfect for our one night, passing through town.
Bern (8/5): It’s a good one - This was my kind of motel. Just the basics please. A safe clean place to spend the night. No body lotion. No cute little bottle of shampoo. And no mediocre breakfast. Old but nice. Good bed. Great HD TV. Check in was a little shake. Desk not full time covered. Call phone number for help. I would stay here again.
loveemilio (10/5): Overnight - For $43 this was a great place to stay. We arrived around 10pm and the lady came right up when we called her. Nice wood floors, nice shower (bring your own conditioner!), firm bed and soft pillows. Lots of directTV channels. I’d come back.

monap575 (2/5): Nothing Good to Say - I booked a room online for 7/18/18, printed my confirmation, arrived at 4pm. I was told by the housekeeper, who was manning the desk, and the phone, that there were no rooms available. She didn't care that I had a printed confirmation, she just was rude and told me to go to the Econolodge, and tell them Paula sent me. I went to Econolodge, and was charged an additional $30, and the room had no working tv/cable, and half of the lights were burned out. Not a good situation, all the way around!
r0dcar0lyn (4/5): condition of hootel - The bed was comfortable, the frig. worked & had a flat screen TV. Room was not very clean, there was sheet rock dust all over the place. No air conditioner in the room, it had like a central air system & was very warm to hot in the room. When I inquired about cooling the room down they said the air unit was freezing up & they gave me a fan to use. When I entered the room there was a waste basket setting in the entry because the roof was leaking. The hall was dimly lit & the room had a slight musty smell to it. The inn needs some major repairs and cleaning. Trucks exiting the freeway & using their jake brake kept waking me up during the night. I would not stay there again.
karlasteele (2/5): Don't bother - Booked a room and we arrived at 11:30pm. There was a number to call to check in and we called it 4 times and no one would answer. Called the travel site that we booked it through to make sure we weren't charged. They called the hotel to see what was up and they said we called the wrong number. We could hear the phone ring every time we called the number they posted on their window. Place is dark and dingy and absolutely no lighting in their parking lot. Do yourself a favor and go 15 miles down the interstate and stay at the Highland Court Hotel in Fairmont. It's right off the interstate and incredibly clean and a very nice person checked us in. The folks there take pride in their hotel and they're honest. I wouldn't have given this dive 1 star.
emholly (10/5): This place is awesome! - I've always wanted to stay here and it worked out this time. Funky, fun, artsy. Each room different. My room had a pillowtop mattress, microwave, and frig - $39 plus tax. Next store to Embers Restaurant, Dairy Queen, gas station. Just of I-90.
dandyd1948 (10/5): Unique in a GOOD way!! - Comfortable bed,quiet and reasonably priced!! What more would you want? Rooms have a mix of modern and antique store look - nice ! Will stay again if in area. Owner was very nice and made sure I was going to be happy
JoW169 (8/5): Not your average hotel - We decided to stop in Jackson, MN to break up our drive to the Black Hills in South Dakota. In looking for a hotel, I found the Earth Inn. This is a unique place to stay. It is built into the hillside and insulated by the earth around it. The owners have done a nice job of decorating and equipping the rooms. All of the rooms are entered from a hallway inside the building. It is a basic motel type facility. Making a reservation was a little different. I called them direct to make the reservation. They did not take a credit card number or send me a confirmation by email, etc. It was basically done by "hand shake." The one warning I have is that it is so well insulated that despite the summer temperatures our room was COLD. There were plenty of blankets on the bed, but if I had known I would have packed something warmer to wear. If you decide to go, ask for a room on the front side of the hotel. Those rooms are not embedded into the earth and may be warmer.
605matta (10/5): Wonderful Place! - Stayed here on an overnight on our way to the Black Hills. I booked here when I found it online as it seemed unique, and we like unique. Great room at a great price. For the price, we got a lot more here, for a lot less, then most other places we have stayed at. A huge room, with a small kitchen. Super clean. Amazingly comfortable bed. Table and chairs. Uniquely decorated. Manager guy was very friendly and accommodating. Even offered to help us with our bags to our room. Who does that? Very comfortable and quiet. Just steps to a restaurant and gas station. Without question, would stay here again. Recommend to all.
ElyCamper (10/5): Great place - This is a great place at a fantastic price. Nice staff, clean and comfortable rooms. It's very quiet, too. It's so quiet you might oversleep if you don't set an alarm. Next time I'm in Jackson or driving west on I-90 I will stay here again, for sure. The cookie-cutter chain hotels are fine but most are forgettable once you get over the price. I won't forget Earth Inn.
