- 979tammys (10/5): Very unique rooms - We stayed in the Raspberry room. We loved the room. It had two bedroom along with two bathrooms. The one bathroom had the cutest little tub. The office was closed when we got there so earlier in the day they called to make arrangements for how we can get our keys. The were very friendly and helpful. The one thing we didn't like was that we didn't see a ghost.

- sara_b_n_xo (2/5): Beware of Dishonest and Unaccommodating Policies - I had one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences with the Buxton Inn. I booked my stay through Expedia and at no point was I made aware of their ridiculous 9 PM check-in cutoff. My flight was delayed, forcing me to rebook at the last minute, and I still made every effort to arrive as early as possible. I even contacted the hotel and left a handwritten note on the lobby door. Despite all of this, the hotel refused to accommodate me, refused to refund me for the first night, and left me stranded late at night having to book another hotel out of pocket. To make matters worse, when I raised this issue with the manager, the response was dismissive and unapologetic. They essentially hid behind "policy" rather than exercising any level of professionalism, empathy, or basic customer service. Most hotels understand that travel delays are out of the guest's control, and will work with you. Not here. This experience cost me extra money, unnecessary stress, and wasted time. To add insult to injury, the information about the 9 PM cutoff was not disclosed anywhere on my Expedia booking. That is deceptive and unfair to travelers who are relying on third-party reservations. If you are flying in from out of town, I strongly advise you to avoid this hotel at all costs. Their outdated, inflexible policies and lack of care for their guests speak volumes. There are plenty of other hotels in the area that will treat you with respect and fairness. Shame on Buxton Inn for operating with such dishonesty and disregard for guests.
- Sara (2/5): - I had one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences with the Buxton Inn. I booked my stay through Expedia and at no point was I made aware of their 9 PM check-in cutoff. My flight was delayed, forcing me to rebook at the last minute, and I still made every effort to arrive as early as possible. I even contacted the hotel and left a handwritten note. Despite all of this, the hotel refused to accommodate me, refused to refund me for the first night, and left me stranded late at night having to book another hotel out of pocket. To make matters worse, when I raised this issue with management, the response was dismissive. They essentially hid behind “policy” rather than exercising any level of professionalism, empathy, or basic customer service. Most hotels understand that travel delays are out of the guest’s control, and will work with you. Not here. This experience cost me extra money, unnecessary stress, and wasted time. To add insult to injury, the information about the 9 PM cutoff was not disclosed anywhere on my Expedia booking.
- Nathan (10/5): - We had a great experience staying at the Buxton. It’s in a quaint little town, has friendly folks, and it felt cool to stay in a place that Abe Lincoln stayed at in the past! Rooms were surprisingly comfy, and the bathrooms didn’t feel dated at all.
- Mary (10/5): - We had a terrific stay at the Buxton Inn. Our king bedroom was spotless, with a modern 2 vanity sink and barn shower doors. The grounds are so pretty and tranquil with a couple of waterfalls splashing- it made reading outside relaxing - love the porch ceiling fan too! We’ll be back!

Overall acceptable but will consider other options in future. Big problem is only one other hotel in town and both are convenient to Denison University, otherwise one must go miles away.

- Marcia (6/5): The Buxton Inn is Tired - I stayed one night. There was no staff member on-site after 9:00 p.m. There was no desk in the room: there was room for one; sitting on the bed with one's laptop & belongings spread all over is not pleasant. I had to call the man at the desk shortly after I check in to fix the TV. And, by the way, a guest can't actually call the front desk: You have to call their regular reservation line, listen to their voicemail tree about marketing staff, special events, etc., just to reach the front desk. Breakfast was a joke! I don't even know where to start with that. Hampton Inn's offer far superior breakfasts! Over-all the property is tired and over-priced.

Lots of original things and then some very cute and tasteful updates. Beds were comfy. Access is easy. We parked right next to our building. There are lots of shops and dining options that are a 2 minute walk from the inn. I had my 12 year old daughter and she “low key” loved it, too.

- Thomas (8/5): Buxton Inn - June 2025 - Great stay. The history of this Inn set the tone for our stay. Comfortable, yet mysterious. We stayed in room #9, which we were told has a history of certain paranormal activity. Unfortunately, no such luck on our stay. But was it worth it - Yes!

- U2370RVangelab (2/5): Beware / frogs !!! Wasps and ants - The worst experience. Stayed in Pearl 1 and there are frogs living right outside the room!! Non stop, constant noise that sounded like it was in our room. That was after we killed ants and a huge wasp. Absolutely awful experience during the first night of our son’s graduation weekend.
- mariacD6314QN (4/5): Such a disappointment - While I am a fan of historic hotels and this inn had some mild charm here and there, we would not stay here again. There are virtually no amenities, services or smiles. For example, they charge $100 to check into your room (even if it is ready) before 3:00, did not mention that they do not offer daily maid service, "serve" a pathetic "breakfast" for $300 a night (why even bother?) and have rooms that are dark, dingy and in need of update. Also, there is no facial tissue in the room, so bring your own. Finally, it would have been nice to have been extended a "Welcome" or "Good Morning". I now understand why so many Denison parents will not stay here.

- Michael (10/5): Excellent, but remember it is older and historic - Comfortable bed, excellent bathroom and shower. We enjoyed our stay at Buxton. Easy walking to all of the interesting restaurants and stores on the main street and to Dennison. You need to understand that this is a historic facility. If you are on the 2nd floor, no elevator. They could also make it easier to find an open plug for CPAP and recharging your phone. The included breakfast fell a little flat. Overall, however, I am very happy to recommend this inn.
- George (4/5): Didn't live up to our expectations - Plumbing: Twice we had no running water and during the night we were disturbed a number of times by strange noises from the plumbing. Electric: The light switch next to the room entrance door was warm to the touch indicating some sort of electrical problem. Bath: The room description said that the room had a bath tub whereas it actually has a nice large shower. The Tavern bar: Closed despite the phone system message system saying that it was open. Value for Money: I don't believe this hotel offers value for money compared with another nearby property.

Our room was spotlessly clean, but the shade over window on the door had been removed and the door knobs were loose and jiggly. The bathroom ceiling had a large, saggy patch which actively dripped water after the water ran in the room above us. The continental breakfast was limited to a few brown bananas, apples specifically labeled as “unwashed” (but with no sink to wash them?!?) stale bagels, and and handful of single serve cereals and yogurt cups. For $250/a night it seems like they could do better. That said, the desk staff was friendly and helpful, the hotel grounds and architecture are beautiful, parking was capacious, and it is an easy walk to the shops and restaurants of downtown Granville.

- ksp122 (2/5): Stained Sheets - Having graduated from Denison University many years ago - I have frequently stayed at the Buxton Inn for reunions. This time, I shared a room with my college bestie, happy to have secured a room in town. After a fun night out, we came back to the room quite late and discovered the sheets had a very large, brown stain. You can imagine our disgust - but felt it was too late to call housekeeping. The next morning we called housekeeping and they swapped out the bedding. I wrote an email to the manager expressing our disappointment that nothing was said or done to compensate for the situation. She wrote back and said that they have a three point housekeeping system - and that we must have made the ‘mess’. I found this response insulting, accusatory and obviously false. This is no way to treat a guest - and will never stay in this place again. So beware - check your sheets before you sleep.

Unfortunately, the A\C or any airflow was not working and in a room with windows that don’t open. my room was ground floor & opened directly on to Main Street. I ended up opening my front door and wedging open the back door just for airflow. Clearly problematic given I had a Direct line of sight from cars or people Walking by from my bed. Did not sleep well as a result. My only solace was going to be a hot shower in the morning and unfortunately after 10 minutes after waiting for the hot water, it never warmed up. I informed them early in the morning of both of these issues with hope they could at least fix the hot water before checking out. Unfortunately, the shower water was still cold and when I asked the front desk he said that the maintenance did not see anything wrong with either. Unhelpful. I ended up taking a shower at my son’s dorm. I instead politely asked for them to waive my room fee or give me a significant discount and ended up making this request via email to the manager and further cited another posted review similar review left by someone that must have stayed in the room the following night). Unfortunately, my reply was very unprofessional and perhaps one of the worst examples of customer service I have ever experienced.
- Marisa (2/5): - Beautiful Inn in Granville with a storied history. Easy walking distance to restaurants and Denison. Unfortunately, during our one night stay on a 90 degree day the air conditioning failed and since we checked in later in the evening, it was too late to speak with the front desk after arriving back from dinner. No fan, no way to open windows, and we didn’t want to sleep on the street level with the door open. We later learned a pipe broke and was forcing steam into the room. It was 80 degrees according to the thermostat! Luckily we showered quite early, and we were lucky we did, because the water was promptly shut off - without notice. The broken pipe caused a problem in the basement, so shutting the water off was the only option. The response from the front desk was, “old house problems.” Would’ve been nice to receive some sort of concession, but the only option was to head out.

- Donna C (10/5): Exceeded expectations - I stayed two nights while attending a wedding across the street. I loved my room, it had a charming historic feel to it, without feeling old or dated. Very clean and comfortable. Amazing service. I arrived at noon after an all night flight and they allowed me to check in 3 hours early. When I asked the night clerk for some herbal tea to help me sleep, there was plenty to choose from in the breakfast room. He offered me to take any breakfast food I wanted as well so I wouldn't have to come again in the morning. Overall, I felt the personnel were kind and caring. Five stars!

I was hoping for a bed and breakfast type of feel, instead it was boxed cereal and apples. Several guest walked into the breakfast area and promptly walked straight out. Located in a convenient central location in this beautiful and friendly town, within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. - Yanna (10/5): Comfortable Stay at Historic Inn - We always enjoy staying at the Buxton Inn. It has great character and friendly staff. The rooms are historically old but comfortable with clean updated bathrooms. We stayed in a large suite in the Tyre building with a great shared patio. The staff seemed strained this visit possibly due to a private event.

- Megan (10/5): - I came here just for an overnight getaway and was not disappointed! I stayed in the Pearl House, and it was beautiful. I absolutely love the history of the inn. Do keep in mind, though, that with an old property like this one come several expected conditions. The walls were very thin, and I could hear my neighbors all night (this was probably more problematic because I stayed the Saturday night before St. Paddy's Day), and the room made me sneeze quite a bit. Everything was clean and tidy, though, and I would definitely go back! (Also, I encountered no ghosts!)
