• Elizabeth (10/5): We already love the area but staying here was the icing on the cake - Thanks - The room seemed a bit small on the photos but when we got in, was really well laid out, nice comfy bed, everywhere spotlessly clean and drinks making facilities. The breakfast was brilliant and the husband and wife - sorry I did not catch their names - were really friendly, offering advice as needed. The place itself is a nice walk from the lake and close enough to all amenities. The lakes is a great place but the hotel made the stay truly memorable for all the right reasons. Thanks To be honest, there was nothing we did not like, even managed to get parked close enough to the hotel!

• SHWETHA (10/5): Warm and beautiful ❤️ - Paula was lovely, made us amazing breakfast, gave us all the info we needed for the day and was a very warm host. Was lovely to meet Richard too. The room was cozy and the view from the window was beautiful. The location was also close to all the important attractions, 10mins drive to Ambleside, 5min to Bowness and Windermere. We loved everything about the property.

• stephen (10/5): Beautiful house in a beautiful place. - Breakfast was superb . Plenty of choice, full English to scrambled egg and salmon to vegan. The location was also great. Half way between Windermere village and the main town of Bowness , both about a 10 to 15 minute walk. The guest house was in a very quiet residential area . The house was a lovely auld hoose oozing with character as all older buildings are. Finally our main host Paula was just so lovely and informative and made us feel most welcome. Husband Richard's breakfasts were delightful . All in all would recommend to everyone. absolutely nothing.

Only point to know for someone booking the property is that the building does not have a lift. We had to carry luggage to 2nd floor, which is quite strenuous.

• Rachel (10/5): Excellent stay 😁 - Stayed at Kirkwood Guest House 11th -13th March 2026 to celebrate my partner’s birthday. We loved everything about our stay Paula and Richard were perfect hosts !! Paula thank you for making us fell so welcome. The room was beautiful with a 4 poster bed which was extremely comfortable. Bathroom was lovely 🛁 too. Breakfast was delicious 😋 Short walk to local amenities/ shops / restaurants and pubs. We would definitely recommend and stay again 5 ⭐️ Thank you for a lovely stay. Rachel and David. Nothing out stay was perfect.

Hosts were fantastic, friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was enough to last until the evening, lots of choice and excellent quality. Lots of street parking available. Great public transport nearby too. It was all fabulous

Beautiful Victorian building with a four poster bed. Very well heated as it’s been a cold rainy night. That was my concern, but was warm and v comfortable. Nothing to say. I liked all of it. My 1st choice will be here on our return.

• Chris (9/5): Fabulous and well run guest house, with lovely rooms and friendly welcome in a great location - The room was exquisite and the 4 poster bed very nice. The bed was also very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and this also added to the experience of staying here. The breakfast was lovely and the location of the guest house perfect, just away and out of the main hub of Bowness. They also ensured the heating was on regularly, and in October, we felt cosy whenever we were in our room. There wasn't anything to dislike about the venue, or our hosts, who were very friendly as noted.

Incorrect information. it was stated that it is next to the Lake whereas Lake was approx 1.25 KM away. room was very small. there was no support staff. water bottles were not available. A lot of attention to detail has been given to everything. The location is superb, not too close to the lake or the commercial centre but still just a nice walking distance away. Wasn't there anything to dislike really.

• Lucille (6/5): A nicely decorated room in a quieter part of town but with nice hosts and easy access to the lake. - Good location, within walking distance of both Bowness and Windermere. Close to bus stop and to a nice woodland walk (Sherrifs Walk). The room we stayed in was lovely, although small. Nicely decorated however not really suitable for tall people (I am 180cm) as the majority of the room was half height with beautiful exposed beams. Sadly this meant the angle of the ceilings were extremely low, leading to a few bumped heads. Hosts were amiable and helpful with recommendations. Overall pleasant but slightly expensive for what we got.

We had the family room on the top floor. Breakfast good each day with plenty of choice. Richard and Paula very friendly and helpful. Good value price for a long weekend in school summer holidays. Ceiling a bit low on one side of the double bed.

The property is in a quiet part of town between the north and south end of Windermere which are both walkable. Stayed in the top floor unit, the beam is quite low, must watch your head when moving around the room

The room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was brilliant and you could tell that they really pride themselves on supporting local produce suppliers. Paula was lovely and friendly and we had a lovely chat over breakfast.
