We asked if we could be moved from there but they refused to do that. We won’t be going back there when we visit next.

- Jamie (6/5): Average - The hotel grounds are well maintained and visually appealing, and the beachfront itself is lovely (although there is some visible rubbish, but that is just positioning of the ocean). The room was comfortable overall, and dinner was good with breakfast offering a decent selection. The standout staff were housekeeping and the grounds team. They were consistently friendly, hardworking, and proactive in greeting guests and checking in with how your day was going. The omelette chef at breakfast was also excellent and good banter. Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing, largely due to poor organisation and lack of service from customer-facing staff. Activities advertised were not delivered. Water aerobics and bocce were both listed but did not run on either day. When I tried to locate the water aerobics, there was no staff present at either pool. After asking multiple staff members, I was eventually told it wasn’t running that day — with no apology or explanation. If activities aren’t running, they should not be advertised. Basic hotel processes were unclear. We were given towel cards but there was no signage or clear location to exchange them. The layout of the hotel is also quite non-intuitive, which adds to the confusion. Service in restaurants was inconsistent and frustrating. We were told we could order dessert à la carte in the main restaurant, only to then be told by another staff member that we had to leave unless we were having the buffet. We were redirected to the café, where options were even more limited, and then told to go back to the restaurant again. In the end, we gave up and ordered externally, which is not what you expect at a hotel of this level. Staff generally appeared disengaged and uninterested, particularly in guest-facing roles. There were often multiple staff present but not actively assisting guests. At check-out, staff insisted I scan a QR code to leave a “good review” and then asked me to prove I had submitted one, which felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. The spa experience was below average and overpriced. The treatment quality was poor, and at times it felt like the therapist was distracted as she would only use one hand. There was also a large spider in the treatment room, which, while understandable in this environment, could have been addressed before guests noticed. The hotel itself feels somewhat dated internally, and while the room was fine, the shower clearly needs maintenance.
- Guide10587536915 (10/5): Outstanding Stay with Amazing Food & Friendly Staff - We stayed 2 days at EKHO Surf and overall had a truly great experience. The view was beautiful, the room was very clean, and everything was well maintained. The food was excellent throughout our stay. A special highlight was the restaurant experience. We would like to give a special thank you to S D Samara and Chamod Kariyawasam, who worked at the live kitchen. Both of them did an excellent job — very friendly, welcoming, and highly skilled. They prepared fresh food right in front of us, and everything was incredibly tasty. We even requested a few custom dishes, and they handled it perfectly. Their talent and passion really stood out and made our dining experience memorable. The buffet was also amazing, with a great variety of options to choose from. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and the staff truly made the difference. Highly recommended!
- 241asb (10/5): Great Stay. Even Better People. - We had a wonderful stay at EKHO Surf Bentota and truly enjoyed every moment of our experience. A special thank you to Aruni from the front office for the warm welcome and for guiding us smoothly through the check-in process — she did an excellent job. We also celebrated our son’s birthday during our stay, and the hotel restaurant staff went above and beyond to make it truly special. We would like to personally thank Illiyas, Subashini, Imalka, Tharindu, Sadaru, and Ridmi for their outstanding effort and kindness. Subashini deserves a special mention as well — she is a talented photographer who beautifully captured our son’s birthday moments in a very unique way. The food was great, and the overall service was outstanding. Housekeeping also did an amazing job, keeping the room spotless with great attention to detail. Highly recommended — we will definitely be coming back!

Big hotel/resort. 2 big pools, one deep, one long and shallow. lovely view and balcony. breakfast buffet was excellent, as was the dinner one. right on beach, close to town though why bother going there. beach is big and lovely. water temp was 29 degrees. the advertised activities namely stretch class and aqua aerobics did not happen on both days. front desk staff knew nothing about it. a bit disappointing as we were ready and waiting. there is not much else at Bentota, just a bunch of resorts. Town is not much.

Fridge, kettle, coffee, tea, and extra water free of charge. Balcony with direct sea views. Two Swimming pools, one of which is very large. A long sandy beach is perfect for a stroll. You can go surfing practically on your doorstep. Nice beach bar. Friendly staff. Tuc right outside the door.

- Kai (7/5): - Das Hotel hat eine außergewöhnliche Lage direkt an dem schönen und sauberen Strand. Auch die beiden Pools sind hervorragend. Insbesondere der direkte Zugang von einigen Zimmern zum Pool ist super. Das Frühstücksbuffet war lecker und für jeden Geschmack war etwas dabei. Die Hotelanlage, insbesondere die Hotelzimmer sind deutlich in die Jahre gekommen. In unserem Zimmer waren einige Einrichtungsgegenstände (Lampen, Bilder, Spiegel) bereits defekt/ in keinem guten Zustand. Die Sauberkeit war deutlich ausbaufähig. Auf Handtüchern und Bettlaken waren zum Teil Flecken. Das Zimmer roch teilweise etwas muffig. Hier erwartet man von so einem Hotel doch etwas mehr.

The best and most memorable experience for us would be the hospitality of the staff specially Ghayan, Subhashni and Ravisha they were the sweetest and most helpful. We didn't have the time to visit the beach restau - It was short stay of one night to attend a wedding ceremony in the nearby Bentota Cinnamon hotel. As we entered, offered apple juice as welcome drinks. The rooms were very big, as it was fully occupied, the washroom need some cleaning up, immediately they had done it. The staffs were excellent and attentive. The following morning buffet, my goodness it were beyond our expectations. I ate all the western dishes as I'm a local man. Cheaper when compared to nearest posh hotels.

- nevillec694 (10/5): Excellent hotel ideally situated on west coast - Ekho Surf was excellent - it far exceeded our expectations. Our room beside a 52 m pool was the highlight. All the staff were extremely helpful and always smiling - you can tell that they are proud of their hotel and also their country. We loved the towel origami. The hotel is ideally located half way between Colombo and Galle, which are easily reached by train, on a beautiful stretch of sand. There are plenty of shops and restaurants near by. We stayed for 2 weeks on a B&B basis. The buffet breakfast was excellent, particularly the fresh fruit and Egg Hopper. Light lunches were taken at either Tuna Turner or Der Cafe within the hotel and then in the evening we used a variety restaurants just across the railway; our favourites were Tuna Tuna 33 and Happy Garden.

They were not very responsive. They heard the request but never came back. Some of them had a very lackadaisical approach.

We had to extend our trip as we had been affected by the Iran war and had to delay our return home. Lovely bright and airy rooms. Immaculately clean communal, garden and pool areas. Drinks were very overpriced compared to prices at restaurants across the road. Breakfast choices were very limited, compared to our other hotel stays in Sri Lanka.

Beautiful beach, clean, friendly staff, nice rooms, good beds, a bit mutch mosquito bites during the night. This is something that can be better. The food is one of the best, but it’s still buffet. Not the best, and not the worst. Good value. The best is the location and the beach. You can promote the massage better, they do a good job.

- Rauthree (8/5): Neat and clean, will come again - This was a sudden plan for our anniversary . And the staffs surprised us with a cake, that was a very sweet gesture of them. Very reasonable and worth the price we paid . We loved our room as it had access to the pool which was behind our room. The proper was clean and neat. The half board meal dinner and breakfast was good. The staffs at the reception were so welcoming. Will definitely visit again with cousins. The room service could improve. We requested for a water bottle in the morning at 7.30am and was not given till 11am.
- Malgorzata (4/5): Not worth it - We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights, and unfortunately our experience was disappointing. On the first day, we were given a room that had drain flies, dampness, and mold. The air conditioning didn’t help — the air felt constantly damp and the duvet felt wet, making it very uncomfortable to breathe and sleep. After we complained, we were moved to a better room, but it still had some mold, especially in the bathroom — although it was an improvement compared to the first room. Overall, this hotel does not meet the standards of a 5-star rating. I hope they address these serious cleanliness and maintenance issues. The staff was lovely , big thank you to the boy who try do his best to change our room . The food was very nice .

- Leigh-Ann (6/5): Great location but not great value for money. - The location was excellent, right on the beach on the one side and right on the railway on the other where there are restaurants so you don’t need to go far to find somewhere to eat if not eating at the hotel. A short walk to town, the gym facilities were decent and the infinity pool was clean and cool. It was our anniversary and the hotel surprised us with a cake which was very unexpected and truly appreciated. The staff are below par, after staying at guest houses most of our trip then coming to a hotel like this has highlighted that majority of staff are just there to get paid, the person we dealt with at reception was so sick and sneezing and sniffing and wiping her nose with tissues then holding the pen with the hand her tissue was in for us to fill out paperwork, another staff member completely interrupted us while I was asking questions about my bill at the end of the stay. At 5am some staff were outside our room talking loud - both mornings! We had to get out of bed and ask them to move away from the rooms to have a conversation. The only staff that were great were the room cleaners.Our room was on a terrible position, right next to the cafe and staff entrance to other rooms, we could hear them talking and opening and closing doors until 1am both nights, so please ensure you ask for a room away from the cafe. The sun was need serious upgrading as a lot of them were broken and on their last legs. And don’t fall for the early check in offer - the hotel was not full at all yet we had to wait until 2pm when our room was ready.

Es el hotel más caro que he pagado en mi vida respecto a lo que ofrecen... La mayor decepción del viaje. No entendí cómo tiene tanta puntuación aún estando en primera línea...
- Ilgar Abasov (9/5): Great hotel with all amenities and beach access - We received a warm welcome with refreshing towels and drinks. Adjacent rooms were provided as requested. The room sizes are good, and all amenities are provided. The hotel offers buffet breakfast and dinner with a wide range of local and international dishes. There are two pools: a long, deep pool and an adjacent children’s pool. The hotel is located on the beach, and its grounds open directly onto the beach. Pool towels are provided for each guest, and the rooms are cleaned daily. The hotel is old and requires maintenance, particularly in the bathrooms. The bathroom door cannot be properly locked. The shower cabin appears to have had a door previously, but it is broken and no longer in place. The staff seemed to be busy with guests, and as a result, some requests were occasionally missed. For example, we were informed that water would be provided twice a day, in the morning and evening. However, it was only provided in the morning after our reminder, and the evening delivery was missed.

- BrettskiSydney (2/5): Don’t stay here. You have been warned…. - The ONLY positive thing I can say about the hotel is that the beach it’s on is lovely. Everything else has been a significant disappointment. The rooms are so average (fridge not working. Then tv not working. Then internet not working). The bathrooms are old and dirty. They clean the rooms at 6pm when you’re trying to shower and get ready for dinnner. They don’t restock simple things like toilet paper or clean towels. But worst of all, is the food. I’m talking seriously BAD food in the main restaurant. So bad that it became a running joke amongst the two other families we got friendly with while staying here. This is a 2/3 star hotel masquerading as a 4-star hotel. Do yourself a favour and do your research - there are surely way better hotels in the area of a similar price.
