Guest Reviews
- Rosie (10/5): - Oh my gosh the view Was so beautiful, the owners are a really lovely couple who were wonderful and so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious with homemade bread. Rooms very nice and comfortable. They offer tours too as the husband is a local tour guide, so helpful. Highly recommend Leaving 😁
- Alexis (10/5): - Lovely house and view. Great hosts and we loved the dog. Delicious food too. Lovely for an escape
- CHZ (9/5): - Ambiente acogedor, seguro y tranquilo.
- Morgan (10/5): I’m very pleased that I chose this hotel to stay at in Baños. Beyond friendly hosts & peaceful location - Insanely beautiful location & the hosts were beyond lovely The walk up to the property. But if you don’t mind a steep trek, then all is well.
- Aastha (10/5): -
- Pippa (8/5): - Beautiful location and really made to feel welcome. Would highly recommend That hill!
- Nicola (10/5): - Accoglienza, colazione, simpatia, posizione
- Erik (8/5): Recommended! - I give the location top score even though it's a hard walk from town going up the hill (for a 60 year old with bad knees, hehe). The view, clean air and tranquility (as opposed to downtown) more than made up for it, though. The hosts, Betty and Darwin, were very
friendly and invited me and a couple of other guests for an excellent new year's dinner - nice touch! The breakfasts were great. A very nice family and great hosts - keep up the good work!
- Christopher (10/5): Peaceful stay above Banos - I liked everything. It felt like being a guest in Darwin and Bettina's home. Quiet and relaxing with great views. Also the best coffee I had in Ecuador. Nothing
- COLLAGUAZO LOACHAMÍN (10/5): Hemoso - Me encantó
- Kathrin (10/5): Sehr gastfreundliche deutschsprachige Wirtsleute.
- Stachnik (10/5): Wonderful Stay - Was absolutely blessed to stay with Bettina and Darwin- both incredible cooks as well. They are a wealth of knowledge and kindness, as well as one of the many reasons we want to come back to Banos specifically. You would be lucky to stay here! We absolutely loved spending time in this beautiful home in the mountains. Cannot express our satisfaction. We will be back
- Mirko (8/5): Sehr familiär/familienfreundlich. - Die persönliche Note und besondere Gastfreundschaft. Ein bisschen wie Freunde besuchen. Schlicht aber einfach schön und liebevoll.
- Pijal (9/5): -
- Maude (8/5): Bel endroit chaleureux! - La gentillesse des propriétaires, l’ambiance familiale, la nourriture, la vue de la ville depuis l’auberge. La chemin pour s’y rendre est très à pic et monte considérablement. L’auberge est loin par rapport à la ville.
- Lars (9/5): -
- Oleg (10/5): Recommended! - All great! Food, owners, view and rooms. Very caring and kind
- Miranda (9/5): Superb - Very cozy homestead, with an incredible view away from the noise. Lots of flora and fauna, and the hosts were very warm and welcoming. Far from town and difficult to get to.
- Natalia (8/5): A beautiful and peaceful place in the hill with great views. - I liked Betina and her husband. I liked all the animals who live there. The food they cooked was amazing and I took a walk with the llamas which I loved. For me the problem was location as you need a special taxi to go up there and it’s 5 dollars but if you don’t mind walking it’s so peaceful and beautiful up there.
- Aditi (8/5): A welcoming homely stay with amazing views of Baños! - Thank you Darwin and Bettina for a wonderful stay, we really felt like we were at home! The hosts were so helpful and made sure we had everything we needed! The view is AMAZING, you can see the whole town so is a great location if you want to be away from the hustle of the town but not too far away! The rooms are comfortable and large and the breakfast was good, they accommodated for vegan needs also! A lovely homely feel with lovely views! Keep in mind that those lovely views require a little hike to get there! It is possible to walk from the town but it is steep, A 4 x 4 is required to reach Casa Amarilla, normal cars or taxi's will reach there.
- Nancy (10/5): It’s gorgeous! - You can’t beat the views! I still need a railing on the stairs at the top of the road!
- Nancy (9/5): Wonderful! - Breakfast is always fresh and healthy with hot bread. The views can’t be beat and Bettina and Darwin are amazing hosts. Darwin is a great chef! There are steps that are at the top of the hill going to the hostel. I really wish they had a handrail. But, I’m old!
- Olivia20017 (9/5): Superb -
- Alexey (10/5): We would come back to this place again. - A very unique place with amazing views of Baños. The owners are fantastic and happy to offer advice on what to visit. They have a beautiful garden with animals and chickens, and if you ask, they can even prepare traditional cuy! They speak English, German and Spanish. There’s nothing wrong, but be prepared for the access if you’re driving. The first time can be a bit tricky, but once you figure it out, it’s no problem at all.
- Leobardo (10/5): highly recommended - Location, attentive host, tasty breakfast and easy to arrange tours great stay
- Susan (9/5): Fantastic ambience and company over 3 night stay - Hosts Darwin and Bettina were very accommodating helpful and friendly providing advice and history of the area. Bettinas breakfasts were delicious with fresh home made bread each morning and Darwins dinners were tasty and fabulous. The view is incredible looking down on township of Banos and nestled amongst the Andes mountains. The garden and animals were a delight to see living sustainably. Loved everything. The hill was not a problem as transport was always available with fast responses.
- Kenneth (10/5): Excellent location to stay outside the bustle of downtown Banos - Bettina and Darwin went above and beyond to make our stay at La Casa Amarilla fun and memorable. Would highly recommend!
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - We had a lovely stay with Bettina and Darwin. They made us feel really at home and told us a lot about life in Ecuador and the beautiful surroundings of Banos. Breakfast with the freshly made "Hefezopf" and dinner with local treats were great, too, and we really enjoyed the view over the valley.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - El acceso al lugar es muy complicado, el camino necesita un auto 4x4
- Carlos (10/5): Unique - The place is unique and has a wonderful view. The staff is very friendly so I recommend this place for any solo traveler or family.
- De (10/5): A safe haven for a nervous tourist - Casa Amarilla is beautifully located on the hillside with a stunning view of Baños. City center is just a 15 minute walk away. But what was most exceptional about our stay was the staff. Bettina and Darwin are the loveliest people I’ve met in a long time, they go above and beyond to help you with every question and are also just fun to talk to and spend time with. 10/10 I would recommend anyone to go stay here when you are going to Baños. Also speak fluent English.
- Chi (10/5): Gracious hosts and gorgeous views! - La Casa Amarilla is a wonderful, homey, scenic stay! Bettina and Darwin are wonderful hosts, and we felt incredibly welcome! Bettina is very responsive (and fluent in many languages!) and an amazing cook. Fresh fruit, coffee, eggs, and freshly baked bread and homemade jam for breakfast? An absolute dream! Darwin also offers many tour options in Baños so if you’re staying here, leave some room in your itinerary for these adventures. We would definitely stay here again!

- Daniel (10/5): Amazing quiet location just out of the main town. - Amazing write quiet location just out of the main town.
- Kira (10/5): Most beautiful place to stay in Baños. Gracious hosts, adorable children, delicious food at any meal you would like to h - It is like being home. Everything is so lovely and comfortable. It is a great place for a family. Admittedly, it is a huge hike to get there. However- That is very much part of the amazing charm. This is not a place to stay if you cannot walk up the side of a mountain.
- Arkadiusz (9/5): Superb -
- Nancy (9/5): Gorgeous location. - Views, hosts, animals, plants. Iconic Ecuadorian experience. Hill to the road
- Eugene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Florian (10/5): Perfectly memorable - The view is just stunning and the Landlady very welcoming and helpful
- Scott (9/5): Quiet mountain location with lovely views of the city. - Quiet mountain location with lovely views of the city. Extremely friendly owners who cooked meals to order. There was no wi-fi, and despite having a jacuzzi, it was not working.
- Wibo (9/5): Higly recommended! - Betina and Darwin are such nice people! They had great recommendations what to do. And we went on a daytour with Darwin which was really interesting and fun. The food is delicious. The room spacious and clean. And the view is amazing! It is a walk uphill but we like walking and the view makes is worthwhile. You can have delicious dinner at Casa Amarilla so if you don’t wanna walk you can stay and eat there.
- Marian (9/5): Super host and very nice property - Staff is very nice…
You have an amazing view up there 😊
- SebboS84 (10/5): Family stay with a view - Felt like a family stay, very warm and kind owners, Bettina and Darwin create such a welcoming atmosphere and are super helpful. You will get an amazing view over Banos from the terrace, a beautiful garden that is also being used for home-cooked meals.
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional - breakfast with a view, warm and kind owners, comfortable rooms
- Mathieu (10/5): best place to stay in Baños - super view, amazing family, you instantly feel at home, the pets are so friendly and there is even some lama’s! thank you so much for the exceptional hospitality, see you soon nothing
- Marian (10/5): Mega !!! - Staff amazing and the place itself !
- Minto (6/5): Pleasant - The family is very friendly. The breakfast was always delicious. The view from the house is lovely. Accessing the property is very inconvenient. There is no comfortable place to lounge.
- Beat (10/5): A wonderful homestay with a beautiful view over Baños and the mountains - It is hard to say what we enjoyed most at the wonderful casa amarilla! We felt at home and part of the host family. Bettina is a caring and attentive host and prepares a great breakfast with freshly grinded coffee and homemade bread. Darwin cooks wonderful meals (try the gui!) and can take you to almost too adventurous tours to the surrounding cloud forest. The tranquillity of the place is superb as there is no tarred road access (the host family can arrange transport by horse or 4x4 for a small fee - ask in advance) and the casa is surrounded by a wonderful garden with animals (lamas, guis, chicken, rabbits, 3 cats, 2 dogs). The two sons of the family are very entertaining and super cute. The view over Baños is especially beautiful at night and has to be eared if you choose to hike up (ca. 15’ from town and some drops of sweat). I dont think it is too far fetched to say that the stay at the casa amarilla will be a top highlight of our trip to Ecuador. There was nothing we didn’t like. Maybe we wouldn’t recommend the place to people you dont like pets and the tours of Darwin are maybe more for thrill seekers than for retiered couples. However these things are not really negative and probably could be arranged if asked for.
- Francesca (10/5): Would come back!! 100% enjoyed my stay!! Best view to wake up and come back too!! - Breakfast was wonderful!! No complaints
- Das (10/5): Beautiful property with a homely feeling - Away from the city hustles and bustles. Extremely helpful family and fun to be around them. I highly recommend this property for people who likes traveling and also loves to stay away from noise and very much inside the nature. I did not find anything worth mentioning. This property has a cozy homely feeling to it.
- Nick (10/5): A wonderful place to stay, with a spectacular view! - We really enjoyed our time with Bettina, Darwin, and their sons in their beautiful home. They made us feel so welcome that we decided to extend our stay. It's a steep walk up (well-lit at night, but make sure to do it in daylight at least the first time), but the rewards are many: peace and quiet, tasty food (Bettina graciously accommodated our vegan diet), a comfortable room, and a wonderful view of Baños. Walk further up the road for a chance to see some of the local tree tomato farms and even a free, seemingly-undiscovered swing set with a view of the local volcano. This is really a one-of-a-kind place, and it comes highly recommended!
- Yvonne (10/5): Exceptional - Casa Amarilla is a home away from home. Bettina and Darwin and their children welcome you with open arms. A couple of highlights: the spectacular view, the homemade breakfast, the jacuzzi, the animals, the garden, the wonderful tour with Darwin. This is a very special place.
- Michael (9/5): Great guesthouse, lovely family! - great view over Baños. Quiet place with comfortable rooms. You share the living room with the family with 2 kids. We liked it! it is a steep walk of 15 min from town to Casa Amarilla. But transportation can be arranged!
- Randi (10/5): I felt at home and safe the entire time, I hope to come back someday. - It’s such a beautiful place! Located on the hillside of Baños looking over the city, this comfy Casa is quaint and extraordinary. There’s a long LONG walk to this place. Make sure to contact the owners once arrived at the bottom of the hill so they can come get you, or go into town and have one of the truck taxis take you up.
- Sandra (10/5): - An amazing place to stay at!!
- SaharaBlonde (10/5): Spectacular Views - Excellent stay. This is a family run hotel so very unofficial and welcoming making solo impromptu travel much easier when any reservation changes occur. As a solo traveler I felt extremely safe staying there and felt more like home than a hotel. One of the owners was also immensely helpful towards helping me arrange last minute tours I wanted to do and really made my stay in Banos exceptional.
Yes, the hotel is on a steep inclined hill - but you wouldn't have such spectacular views without being on a hill. If you can do a steep 13min hike, it is WELL WORTH IT. The trail is lit up in the evening so no issue coming back after dark either. There is an unofficial restaurant as part of the hotel, so food or drinks are also not an issue, if not wanting to come up/down the mountain too frequently. HIGHLY recommend the property's horse offer when arriving (horse if muddy post rain but I was told a taxi can go up there as well...)- you do not want to be dragging your luggage up that hill AND hiking it for the first time.

- NatalieMalinowski (10/5): A beautiful bed and breakfast in Banos! - This hotel is a little off the beaten path but...has a lovely view of Baños. It was super relaxing eating breakfast on the terrace and enjoying the view of the city, along with their gardens! Bettina is very friendly and accommodating and speaks English. They have a adorable cat, dog, and kids that made us feel at home. They helped us arrange transport back to the airport too. We were in room 2 it’s smallish, but it had hot water and clean linens, we felt it was a very reasonable price. I do wish their had been a bath rug as the floor is tiled, and was a little slick stepping out of the shower. We did hear some noise, sirens, dogs, roosters ect...but all the places we stayed in Ecuador seemed to have noisy hotel rooms (maybe the concrete construction) so we were prepared with white noise to play on our phone. They served a very good breakfast! Bettina even steamed milk for my coffee (seems Ecuadorians don’t drink coffee with cream). ***Be warned it is a steep 10-15 min hike with loose gravel, to get up to this place! Do yourself a favor if you have a suitcase, and have the hotel prepare the horse to meet you at the gate where the pavement ends, to bring it up ($6) Its very worth it!*** Good time here!
- Dallas (10/5): - Bettina and Darwin were exceptional hosts. The beds were comfortable, the food was amazing and the view was spectacular. It’s a hike to get to the place but well worth it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I had an excellent time at Casablanca Amarilla. It’s a lovely place perched on the hillside. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
- 247monat (8/5): Amazing view above Banos - Friendly owners with good advice on what to do and the connections to get you where you want to go. They even cooked us cuy one night. We did a tour to the Devils Pailon waterfall the owner arranged for us and it was a highlight. Banos is very touristy so it was nice to get above the city and experience the view without the noise of being in town. It is a steep 10-15 minute hike up to the hotel so be prepared.
- A2317TWanthonyd (10/5): Nice getaway - Very clean, hospitable and attentive staff. The hike is doable with a load that you can carry, but it is an uphill hike. I would recommend the horses if available. Staff offered assistance with luggage even before checking in.
- Mavis (10/5): Very nice experience - We arrived in the evening and we were welcomed very warmly by Bettina and her son. The view was amazing over Baños, very much worth the 15 mins hike up the mountain road.
We felt more like being invited at a family, Bettina and Darwin personally cooked our diners which were always very delightful. They use a lot of fresh ingredients picked from the garden, like for tea.
Highly recommended, gives that extra quality touch to your stay. + The animals (rabbits, dogs, chickens and more) were very fun to have around us.
- leylasteele (6/5): Hike up is a huge factor - We booked Casa Amarilla because we read Banos was often noisy and wanted a quiet location. We understood it was a short hike to get there but we did not expect it to be as bad as it was. We live at 8000 ft in Colorado and walk uphill to get to our house but nothing prepared us for this steep incline..while carrying heavy bags. Plus the owner was supposed to meet us at the bottom but wasn’t there when we arrived. He happened to come along 10 minutes later, after I had repeatedly tried calling his wife (she had emailed me the wrong number). So the first impression was not good and when our driver from Quito became concerned for our welfare, we should have taken that as a sign and found other lodging immediately. But instead we forged up the hill with our bags wanting to give the place a chance. The owner, Darwin, tried to sell me on his travel tours the entire way up while all I wanted was to focus on finally arriving at our destination. We did finally get there but it felt really awkward from the start. After seeing the small room and the close quarters of living with the owners and their 5 year old son, we decided to have dinner and stay the night but then find other lodging for the rest of our stay. Clearly Bettina, the owner, was disappointed when we told her and we readily agreed to her terms of paying a penalty for leaving early. It was the right decision and the place we moved to in town, the Hostal Chiminea, was 1/2 the price for a spacious room in a quiet location near the waterfall. La Casa Amarilla is in a beautiful spot (although noise from town carries up the hill) and the food was delicious. Perhaps under other circumstances we would have had a pleasant experience and I really struggled whether to write this review but I think it is helpful to know that the hike is arduous and that is something to consider before booking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice little place up in the hills - My wife and I are from California and have visited Ecuador twice now for months at a time. Being foreigners it can be hard at times to find clean, comfortable and safe places to stay but that’s exactly what we found here. The owners make you feel like your at home and they are very helpful and overall just great people. The hotel is clean and the food they serve is great also. Just be sure to bring some good shoes for the 15 minute hike up to the house.
- alejo (8/5): amazing hosts but not for all guests - it was a crazy holiday weekend and last minute booking so we choose casa amarilla for some of our group guests. you better be in shape or not have any problem waking its a steap walk, it will compensate with the view and the great hosts casa amarilla has. you can organize horseback ride from the main street to casa amarilla to avoid the walk.
- Hans (10/5): - A hotel beautifully situated with a grand view of the town Banos and the surrounding mountains. It is perfectly managed by Bettina, originally from Switzerland. I only stayed one night but wish I had stayed longer.
- Bob (10/5): Great hosts & magnificent views - If you like hiking, great hosts, wonderful views and excellent breakfasts then this is the place for you. Bettina and Darwin make you comfortable and welcome at the Casa Amarilla. Muchas gracias - Bev & Bob de Canada
- ecuador2011 (10/5): Gorgeous location, Warm hosts! - This was my fourth time visiting Banos, Ecuador; it's one of my favourite places in South America! This was, however, my first time staying at La Casa Amarilla. In my research, I was looking for a place to stay with a view, as the town and its surroundings are very picturesque. Although there are lovely hotels in town, you don't have the same experience without the view! La Casa Amarilla is a small hotel, which I liked, with comfortable rooms and nice bathrooms (with hot water). Breakfast was included, and was absolutely delicious. All of the ingredients were fresh and plentiful. The hotel owners were a very charming and hospitable couple. We enjoyed talking to them each day, and we were able to arrange our excursions with the hotel owners. Overall, this hotel was more than charming. It made our stay in Banos very special. The only criticism/advice I would give is to be prepared for a fairly laborious hike to the hotel. It is not accessible by car, and the hike is strenuous, even if only for 20 minutes. We had to plan our days around only going up once a day, which worked out fine. Perhaps a quad service would be helpful. Overall, beautiful place, great people, highly recommended.
- Jim (10/5): Serene and very quiet area with majestic views - Nestled in the middle of the mountain, this was absolutely an amazing experience. Felt like we were staying at a good friends house. Bettina, her husband and son Rumi were so delightful!! Thanks for making this experience so special. If you're looking for a quiet escape, with a little bit of leg work to go up a hill for a few minutes, you will LOVE THIS!!
- manoukb2015 (10/5): Amazing stay - We had an amazing stay. Bettina and Darwin are very welcoming and they created a beautiful peaceful and homely stay with a fantastic view over Baños and the mountains. Breakfast was great and we definitely recommend this place!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a wonderful time and the owners family is very friendly. They helped us with all issues we had and gave us valuable advice for our current and future stay. We will come back.
It is a trek up the hill but if you don’t mind walking the peace and the views are worth it.
- MCMSTUART (10/5): Excellent Hosts and an Amazing View in Banos - We stayed six nights with Bettina and Darwin who were wonderful hosts. The three room Casa is quiet, very clean, very good wifi, hot water in the shower, delicious and plentiful cook-to-order breakfast (think eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit "sundaes", croissants/fresh bread, ham & cheese, cafe con leche or hot chocolate or tea with herbs fresh from Bettina's garden (try the lemongrass), and homemade jams with fruit from Darwin's farm). The view overlooking Banos is amazing, but be warned it comes at a price. It's a 10-15 minute walk down into town, a 20-30 minute walk up depending on your fitness, it is a very steep hill, but worth it if you can make the trek. A horse can be arranged to transport you and/or your luggage up the steep walk as no cars or taxis can drive up. We would plan our day to be out and about all day and only have to walk up once at the end of the day - it's lit with street lights so very safe, but bring a small flashlight just in case the electricity goes out. We enjoyed Darwin's chef skills for dinner several times during our stay and Bettina offered a late night sugar cane liquor and a blackberry and limoncello liquor other nights. We also tried her homemade blackberry frozen ice - delicious. They offer through their restaurant lunch and dinner options and beverages to people staying at Banos hotels/hostels and to hikers passing by to the Virgin Statue. We highly recommend La Casa Amarilla and Darwin and Bettina's hospitality and would stay with them again.
- VeratH (10/5): Amazing view! - We stayed two nights and had a lovely stay. This place has an amazing view over Banos and the mountains opposite. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. They serve delicious breakfast, partly out of their own garden! Absolutely worth the hike up.
- Ryan (10/5): Best View in Banos - I absolutely loved my stay at La Casa Amarilla! It's a little bit of a hike to get there, but if you're staying in Banos you should be willing to do some hiking to take in the true splendor of stage area. I had the most amazing view from my room and also took many pictures on the way to/from my hotel every day. Bettina and Darwin were amazing hosts--very polite and accommodating of my needs, and always offering help with suggestions when I'd ask questions about different activities and places in town. They were both very friendly and fun to talk to while I'd enjoy my morning coffee and when I'd return for the day. I absolutely loved it here and highly recommend to anyone visiting Banos!
- S5004KNpaulinec (10/5): Wonderful place ! - What a wonderful view !!
The rooms are clean and comfortable.
About the restaurant, it's perfect ! Everything is home made and it's very good ! You can feel at home.
I recommend this place for the view, the food, the kidness of Betty and Darwin and for the hotel ! But just remember that you have to you 10 min in mountain way (no party shoes !), but it worth !!
- VP767 (8/5): Very quiet and welcoming place ! - We've been there with my familly for a night and we all loved it.
The owners, Bettina and Darwin, are welcoming and offered us a fresh juice at our arrival. The rooms are clean and confortable, the food is homemade and good (we had dinner + breakfast there).
It is worth climbing up there !

- JPRamsey (8/5): Crazy Cool Find! - We had been staying in Banos and decided to take the day trip to Casa Del Arbor (treehouse). The bus ride took about 30 minutes to reach the summit and the treehouse. It was crowded, the lines were long and the view was clouded over. Epic fail as the kids would say. We decided to hike back down to Banos. You have to walk down the road about 20-30 minutes before coming upon the trail. The hike down is very steep at points (wear good shoes). We hiked about 45 minutes before coming across the La Casa Amarilla. The place is a small, very charming, run by a lovely Swiss woman and her Ecuadorian husband We just stopped for refreshments on the terrace. The views are breathtaking. We will stay here next time in Banos for sure!.
- Englishtravelfanatic (10/5): Wonderful view and warm welcome - We did not stay here (as we came upon it by chance) but we stopped for a drink and ice cream on the steep walk to the Mirador de la Virgen. Bettina (Swiss) was very welcoming and we enjoyed talking to her. We were shown the rooms; they looked great but we can't comment further. We sat in the sunshine and admired the view from our table outdoors. Casa Amarilla is an amazing place, halfway up the mountain and totally secluded. Very peaceful. We could clearly see it from our hostal in Banos.
- 919linnl (10/5): Just amazing - We stayed here for two nights and absolutely loved it . The owners are welcoming and carrying , but also give you the privacy you want . It's a a little bit walk to get up there , but it's worth it AND you get fresh squeezed juice when you arrive . If you want to party, maybe stay in downtown, but to everybody that want to stay at an amazing place , and relax after adventures such as water rafting : Stay here . The breakfast was the best we have had in Ecuador, real coffee and they do there own tea with herbs from the garden ...
- Luc (10/5): Hidden gem - Wonderful! If you are fit enough to walk 10 min up a steep path, you will be well rewarded: a beautiful location overlooking the town and the surrounding mountains, the peace of a lush garden, and a discrete building, nicely decorated, blending with the vegetation. The owners will quickly make you feel welcome and at home.
- RazorRen (10/5): Nice quiet place just be prepared for the hikes up and down - Initially, my girlfriend wasn't very pleased with me as we had to walk up the hillside but eventually liked the place for what it was. The Casa Amarilla guesthouse is located on the hillside just above Banos and the big advantage you have with staying in this place is that it's quiet away from the street noises, you have a great view of Banos down below, you're closer to nature, and you have a 15 minute hike towards Mirador La Virgen where you can view the active Volcan Tungurahua.
This place is run by Darwin along with his Swiss wife, and Darwin was like my Banos fixer for me, he was of great help going out of his way to meet our needs. Upon arrival while hiking up the hillside track we were fortunate enough to have met Darwin there and then who got his brother to carry my girlfriend's suitcase up to the guesthouse and Darwin himself carried my girlfriend's suitcase down the hill when we checked out, which was a great help to my girlfriend. Also, while in Banos I wanted to cycle the waterfall route, go to the Casa del Arbol, view the Tungurahua Volcano from the Mirador de las Antenas, and take a day trip to Quilotoa. Darwin helped fixed it all up for me.
Breakfast is served in the cafe area and fresh food is served for dinner (for an extra cost).
This place is great for those who love hiking or nature, and being located on a hillside, who needs the gym when hiking up and down will keep you fit! It can serve as a good practice for those who plan on hiking Ecuador's mountains and volcanoes. However, if you're the sort of person who dislikes walking long distances or if you have a poor level of fitness then this place may not be for you.
Just a couple of downsides of this place:
- You have to hike uphill for about 15 minutes to get here.
- The Wifi sometimes has periods when the signal is poor.
- Eugenia (8/5): beautiful view of Baños and the valley - Very nice hotel to stay in Baños. It is way up the hill and when you are up in the hotel you have a spectaculair view of the whole town and valley, especially at night it is beautiful. You don't have to go down town at night to have dinner. Darwin and his wife make delicious dinners. It is really worth staying at this hotel. They also Help to organize trips.
- rond696 (10/5): Great Experience! - Left here feeling as though I had friends I could visit here in Banos as opposed to just another hotel to stay at. Great service, good rates and an amazing view! Accommodations are not as modern as your typical hotel but are amazing considering you are half way up a mountainside. They even have free WiFi! The walk up the hill is not easy but believe me it is worth every step. I will definitely be staying here again when I return to Banos!
- Kenda (10/5): - Darwin and Bettina who run the place are so sweet, you feel like family. Fresh and delicious breakfast daily- great coffee and fresh mora juice!!! Darwin acted as our personal tour guide, taking us out two days to see waterfalls and canopying. The room is comfy and quiet. Views from the hotel are beautiful, looking over banos. Be prepared, the walk up to the hotel is an intense 10 minute, rocky and can be muddy hill. Banos is such a fun town, definitely stay here and enjoy!
- Osiris Rosa (8/5): Awesome view of Baños and quiet place to sleep - I like the fact that the place had a quiet surrounding atmosphere. the view of the city of Baños Is spectacular as is to be expected from the hotel location. The hotel owner is very friendly and accommodating. he speaks Swedish, English, and Spanish.
- joffre (2/5): Unable to access property - Arrive at address. Hotel had no parking area. No road access. No one to answer the phone
- debr933 (10/5): You will be rewarded... - If you are up to a 15 minute hike up the hill you will be rewarded with a spectacular view of Banos lights. The owners treated us like family and were very accommodating. They had a nice menu and one night after we ordered , Fredy disappeared....he had gone to town to get a missing ingredient!
