Guest Reviews
- Alison (10/5): - Good value for money … great location .
Book parking is good
- Dmitri (8/5): - Serves the purpose: simple, clean and close to city center and trtansportation.
- Claire (8/5): Budget hotel - The hotel is a budget hotel. If you’re not expecting it don’t book
- robin (8/5): - Fit for purpose.
- Gemma (8/5): - .
- Lisa (6/5): Ok for somewhere to sleep - Room was very basic, toilet and bathroom had a terrible smell. Reception staff miserable.
- Charlotte (6/5): - Would appreciate if the receptionists would at least smile or greet the customers especially during check in and breakfast
- Nick (10/5): Good for Business Trips - Stay here frequently for business. Staff is always helpful and rooms clean. Only downside is the occasional fire alarms going off from the showers in the room. Overall, good place and well located near the city centre/Cardiff Central Station.
- Stephen (8/5): - The hotel was close to the center, the room was clean, A bit strange with a large bed & a bunk bed especially with two adult males in one room, Also wasn't happy that you had to pay extra for a kettle, most places have them in the room, also no toilet brush in the bathroom.
- Colin (8/5): - Basic accomodation which was clean, all that was needed for one night
- Helen (6/5): - First impressions were not great. There was sone unidentified dried goop in our room door card reader and we were met with the smell of sulphur / eggs when we walked in which did not make me feel at ease. The room was very institutional looking and whilst mostly clean there was an ominous looking dark brown stain under the sink which made me feel squeamish. The shower and sink are in the bedroom which made the room feel like a prison cell.
I thought the bed was very comfortable but there are no plugs bu the bed. The only power point was across the room under the telly.
The horel was very cheap and convenient and you could park for 24 hours for £11. Its also 10 mins walk from st davids cemtre and the utilita arena.
I probably wouldn't stay again because of the smell and institutional feel. Id rather spend more money and feel relaxed but if you are looking for a cheap convenient base its ok.
- Tony (10/5): Very good - I’ve stayed in a few inexpensive hotels over the years. This ranks among the best.
Start with the negative. Room not quite ready on arrival but they did allow me to leave my case. One towel was slightly damp but this wasn’t an issue. I’ve never been expected to pay extra for my tea, coffee and kettle.
Positive’s. The reception were very friendly and helpful but also managed to be professional. The room was prepared very well. The housekeeping staff were obviously working to a high standard the ones I met were very pleasant. The bed was comfortable and the shower, although basic, was easy to use and effective. Apart from the lack of tea making equipment everything that you expect was there. The lighting was very well done which may seem s small point but made the room feel more pleasant, as did the efficient heating.
One more point. The hotel is quite well located and seemed quiet on my visit.
I’ve never stayed in any of this chains hotels. They are high on my list now though. Recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Would stay again - Room was clean and was suited to me and my 2 daughters. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely book Ibis Budget again.
- Gareth Alan (6/5): - Was a good a property, nice and clean apart from problems with my key card everytime time i used it , no matter how many changed it, toilet wouldn't flush property . And why do you have to pay for tea and coffee in your room .
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good place to spend a night. - Good hotel. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Parking is convenient if you reserve ahead. Check in was quick and easy. Very convenient location. Basic room, good shower, clean.
- Jason (10/5): - yes enjoyed my stay. no issues and great value for the money. 9/10 Thank you 😀👍
- Catrin (8/5): - shame no tea and coffee otherwise brilliant
- Sze Pui (8/5): - Unbeatable price
- Annette (8/5): - The location was great, near the shopping centre and restaurant and near the venue which we were attending!
- Olufunmilola (4/5): - The was not air conditioning and the coolant was not working effectively with the window opening restricted. The drains smell badly and too basic. Could do with giving customers complimentary bottle of water as the least. I wouldn’t recommend
- David (6/5): - No coffee in room
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ibis - Nice size room. Close to train station and city centre.
- Arian (4/5): - As a budget hotel, it was average. The location was very good thought. Walking distance to the bay and the city center.
- Lesley (10/5): - Handy.
- Deborah (6/5): - There waa no kettle of coffee ect they charge £10 deposit and £3.50 for this think its standard and should have been included, also the plug sockets ( only 2 ) werent near the bed the toilet is a little cupboard that hits the main door if someone walks in , the shower waa difficult to get to the right temp
Parking was expensive found it just outside for half the price ,
- Alison (10/5): - Incredible value for money, no frills hotel in a perfect location
- GERAINT (6/5): - Staff overworked and very busy. Very basic limited breakfast. Strange smell in corridors and could do with a clean. No kettle in room and had to pay deposit plus for tea/sugar/coffee. On returning home they d charged me twice for deposit. Had to pay £10 parking on top
- Martin (10/5): - I used Just Park for overnight parking. The transfer from having the car park pin code to excellent and speedy check-in to the perfect " pod-like” room with separate w.c., comfortable bed, and small desk to work on was seamless. The room was spotless throughout. There is a very handy convenience store opposite the front entrance. I will definitely stay here again.
- Helga (8/5): - It was pleasant staff helpful and walking distance to centre
- Aarthy (6/5): - It was not mentioned that single bed would be bunk bed either in desc or in photos. Disappointed. Also we got stuck in lift twice.
- Garry (10/5): - Excellent friendly staff.
- Tim (6/5): - Hotel was a good location but it’s tired and not very welcoming. On check in ask your staff to simply explain that there is no kettle or hairdryer and needs to be hired. Or just put them in the rooms! Hotels today have tea and coffee making facilities as standard and shouldn’t need to be hired. And having the shop items locked away feels unwelcoming and we were made to feel as if we were being difficult when we wanted some bottled water. The whole place needs an injection of enthusiasm
- Cary (10/5): - Just what we needed. Compact room at compact price. Very nice.
- Thomas (4/5): - You get what you pay for.
This is not a nice area of town and the exterior of the hotel is less than inviting.
Reception was slow and not very friendly or welcoming.
Hallways had a weird smell.
Room was cold and heating didn’t work
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable for a one night stay. Functional and clean, it is good value for a budget hotel in the area
- Stephen (10/5): - It was as said - 'Budget' - and excellent value as such.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed looking out of the back of the hotel where they were rubbish bins overflowing the car park is very small so we're go and parking the different Hotel just down the road that the staff told us about but it was great to be able to walk to the city center 10 minute walk if that in the evening we walked five minutes to the next Hotel where we could use their restaurant for evening meal if you don't want to go into town
- Craig (10/5): - The room was very clean and tidy the staff was welcoming on desk when arrived the night staff was really good would stay here again
- Anne-Marie (10/5): - Thanks for stay near centre of Cardiff
- Kimberley (10/5): - Excellent service
- Jamie (2/5): - Worst experience ever! Ended up leaving after 1 night
- Michael (8/5): - Cheap and cheerful. Staff were great. Lift was broken.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - There was a problem with the checkin that we were assured would be resolved but after more than an hour we went back to check and were told that no it wasn’t! This was very disappointing. Apart from that, things were okay although in one of the rooms we checked into the bunk bed wasn’t set up and the TV wasn’t working. Hotel quite and convenient for the city centre.
- Mark (10/5): Cardiff - Weekend in cardiff. Perfect lication from town centre.
- Martin (10/5): - Very basic, but ideal for just a place to sleep whilst visiting the area.
- Anthony (6/5): - Room was not like the picture much more basic.
- Joshua (8/5): - Perfect for a cheap over night stay in the city or if your heading to the stadium all with in a 10 min walk
- Masum (2/5): - The floor had a bad smell and the room and shower needed a clean
- Sam (2/5): - Shower had a foul odour coming from drain and would smell the entire room out. Bed was comfy, however would not stay again.
- maureen (10/5): stopped off on the way back from a dog show - professional and very efficient staff. Clean very modern and eco-friendly hotel local to the city centre 10 minutes walk
- Jan (8/5): Budget - Good basic room
- Sally (10/5): - Basic but clean and amazing value for money given the central location
- David (10/5): - Only a 5 - 10 min walk to the train station & main area / stadium. Hotel staff were extremely efficient & helpful and the hotel was spotless!
- David (8/5): - Fair walk to centre, woukd have been nice to have a drink in the hotel save walking to town
- Lauren (10/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was kept clean and tidy and had everything that I needed. The hotel was in a great location to be able to walk in the town centre and the bay.
- Kamal (2/5): - It’s budget which I understand. But it’s way too substandard
- Benji (4/5): - Price was quite high for a budget hotel
- Verified traveler (6/5): Small rooms and no privacy. - All rooms are the same size whether you book a double or pay extra for a family room. The only difference is the family room has a makeshift bed above the double bed. The toilet is a similar size you would find on an aeroplane, and the shower cubicle is next to the bed so you step out naked into the room, which is fine for a family with small children but not teenage children.
- Hannah (8/5): Good location - The hotel location was just what we needed close to town so we didn’t need a taxi. Hotel was fine though not having the toilet, shower and sink in one seperate room was a bit annoying.
- Mansoor (10/5): - Very good
- ADEFOLU (8/5): - Good Location, Good Price
- Brady (2/5): - Absolutely the worst and unorganised hotel I’ve ever come across. I’m that pissed off I can’t even be bothered to leave a review
- Kelly (8/5): Nice & Clean Budget Hotel - We were on our "World Tour of Wales" and this was our first night.
The welcome was: Efficient but not warm.
The room was small, which was to be expected but it was clean and the hotel is in a great location for Cardiff City centre, the University and for the marina. There were two supermarkets opposite.
We didn't have breakfast.
We stayed in ten hotels during our holiday and we rated them like the charts from 10 to 1, where 1 was the best. The prices ranged from £65 to £125. The Ibis Budget was the cheapest but came in at No. 4.
Would we return: Yes we would.
Good to know: Book your parking in advance.
- Ian (10/5): Cost effective place to stay - What you would expect from a budget hotel in a handy central location
- Ian (10/5): Birthday stay - No complaints-everything was fine.
- Elroy (10/5): - Very relaxing stay. One minor quibble, their 2nd lift has been out for some time now. Will it ever be fixed?
- Stan (6/5): - Blood on shower door. Floor in toilet coming away from the wall. Ac was broken. Stain on wall in bath and ceiling and mold in the door of the toilet and the flusher was faulty.
1st time stay was alot better. But believe as i returned was just handed a s..tty room as they didnt care as i did return.
- Peter (6/5): - Basic but good for weekend in Cardiff
- kay (8/5): - Close to city centre , quiet, room clean, only downside is no tea and coffee facilities in room, but have coop and spar opposite plus breakfast is continental only.
- Uchit (4/5): - Staff not friendly, very small room, dirty carpet in carridoor, limited breakfast option, no parking
- Lee (8/5): - No tea/coffee facilities in rooms
- David (8/5): - .
- Iain (8/5): - Budget hotel, unfortunately we had to pay Park Lane prices, as we were going to see the Foo Fighter's
- Kevin (8/5): - Everything was great except the parking app said there were no spaces in the car park. So had to book else where
To see in the morning the car park was empty.
- Natalie (8/5): - Nice and clean. Quite close to centre. Just right for overnight stay
- Gabby (10/5): - good for the price. would recommend
- Lydia (8/5): - Great room and comfty bed. Loved the surround LED lighting in the room. Breakfast adequate. Conveniently located for station, shops and millennium centre all within walking distances.
The only thing to improve would be a hot drinks machine downstairs available 24/7 as there are no kettles in the rooms.
- Katy (6/5): - Parking not clearly explained.
Sink in the room, Toilet tiny.
Good location for town
- Myra (6/5): - The room was cold and the heater did not work. I asked twice for an extra blanket and was told the hotel didn’t have any. The front staff person offered me a heater, even after I informed her the heater did not work.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pink concert overnight stay - Check in simple. Staff helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Another OK stay here, and the place has improved.
- Liz (6/5): - This property serves a purpose if you need a bed for the night for a gig. Its basic but thats to be expected. Its the cheapest option but they have you over a barrel so very expensive for what you get.
- Clare (8/5): - Good location and value for money
- catherine (10/5): - Good value for money, I was initially worried the duvet was too thin, but I was warm and slept well
- Gavin (8/5): - Value for money. Get what you pay for, no frills.
- Sam (10/5): - Room was exactly what I expected; clean, all facilities provided and comfortable bed. The hotel is in a great area, and overall I feel I got good value for money! Check in was convenient and quick, and check out was the same.
- Christopher (2/5): - Worst hotel ever redness customer service terrible dirty room everything cover in dust
- Leon (8/5): - Always clean
- Valerie (10/5): - it would of been nice to have a kettle and cups in the room
- Rhys (4/5): - Basic, but you certainly can’t complain for the price. Close to the city centre and Arena.
- NEIL (8/5): - Easy and quiet. Basic but adequate
- Sophie (6/5): - Great location as it was easy access to the city centre and train stations. Think the additional charge for a kettle and hot drink facilities is not needed that should be provided as a minimum in the room. The parking set up is not clear also, maybe a reminder to book oarking should be sent out to guests.
- Milliel (10/5): - Clean property with attentive staff. Comfortable rooms. Hotel is located in a central location, close to Cardiff Central and restaurants.
- Maralyn (8/5): - Very basic but ideal for an overnight. Staff were very friendly and helpful
- Kerry (10/5): - I stay here frequently for work and always find it clean convenient and staff friendly. It is obviously budget so if you want tea and coffee and a kettle in your room you have to purchase that (not included)
- Catherine (10/5): Small but good - Great budget hotel, good wifi amd facilities. Three of us stayed in the room which was small but met our needs.
- Laurence (2/5): Laurence - First of all I didn’t realise it was a triple room as it said a standard double but there was a bunk bed in the room so not much head room the shower I had to get maintence to reset the temperature no complimentary tea and kettle in the room which I have gotten from other hotels for the same price and no organisation for a fire drill which happened at 11 pm at night no one told us what’s going on just running around like headless chicken
- Maido (4/5): Good location, everything else like name, Budget! - Budget, is a key word here!
- GUY (6/5): - A decent reasonably cheap (for a major city centre) basic hotel. Clean basic room in a convenient location.
- Andrew (6/5): - Rooms are very basic , no tea/coffee in the room , one very cheap thin pillow. No aircon so opened windows but window directly over ventilation units so very noisy. Location great and staff were all very pleasant. However toilet on the groundfloor was resembling a festival toilet (8:30am on a sunday )
