Guest Reviews
- Alvin (7/5): - The view and scenery while sitting outside enjoying the food. The light sometimes going off.
- Sandor (9/5): - Location Ok, staff very accommodating and friendly. I only saw once the manager. You can easily discover the whole island in a two day stay. Ferry prices are astronomical for non-black tourists - and some boatman are not very nice, overcharging you and make you waiting for hours, if at all. Many boats are rather fragile.
- Sam (10/5): Relaxing island stay - The location right at the beach is very relaxing and they organize good activities to explore the island. The owner and staff are very communicative in helping you organising transport to the island. Would definitely recommend this place!
Ravintola on erittäin kallis. 280-450, eikä kovin laadukas.
Lähtöaamuna menin aamiaiselle 9am ja minulle ilmoitettiin, että 15 minuutin päästä täytyy huoneen olla tyhjä, tulee uusia asiakkaita. Check out time oli ilmoitettu 12.00. Ei jäänyt paras loppuvaikutelma.
- Caro (8/5): - Personnel aux petits soins, calme et accès idéal à toute l’île /
- Njie (10/5): A must visit island - Brilliant island. A most visit place I loved everything
- Rory (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (10/5): Top choice! -
- stig (8/5): - Fantastiske mennesker Gregori styrer og steller her finner man seg selv
- Magnus (8/5): A relaxing place - A great place for some relaxing days. I enjoyed the nature on the island, and one afternoon I did a hike across the island. I also spent some time snorkelling, and I explored the nearby local village. At the guesthouse I did meet several other friendly guests.
- Paul (10/5): Excellente - Beautiful location, good food and excellent company.
Gregory has carved out a superb guest house on a stunning island. There are plenty of activities,or not , if you so choose.initially I had booked for 3 days I stayed for 6!! Would highly recommended The bandits in Kent extracting an unconstitutional tax to access the village.something should be done to stop this to allow free access as it affects honest hard working businesses on the island
- Tony (8/5): Lovely, relaxing guesthouse on romantic island. Great staff, inexpensive. Ambiance, great food. - Dalton is a wonderful guest house on Banana Island. It has a private beach and the sound of the Atlantic Ocean can be heard all around. Wonderful, kind, friendly, helpful Leoneon staff, who go out of their way to make guests feel at home. A beautiful place with a large reception area where meals and drinks are served for a price. The private double room I stayed in had large double bed with pillows, bed sheets and a moskito net. Small wooden table, and stool to sit on. Small wooden couch with a thin mattrus. En-suite bathroom with western-style toilet with seat and toilet paper, sink with running water, mirror and a basic shower with cool water. Bath towel included in room. Rubbish bin in bathroom. Room has lighting. Key to enter room. Room has 2 small windows with wooden shutters. Some hammacks near the room, plus a garden with many plants. Also hammacks at reception. Guests can charge phones, cameras, etc at the reception. There is power between 7 in the morning and 5 in the evening. Drinks to purchase include tea/coffee, small/large bottles of water, coke/fanta and beer. Meals are usually rice, veg and chicken or rice, veg and fish. Chips (fries) are also available. Breakfast options are pancakes with honey, fruit (usually papaya), and/or omelette. Activities include skuba diving, boat excursions, spear fishing, guided village and forest walks. The guest house and island is romantic. I'd visit again.
Banana Island is reached by boat sent from the guest ouse on request and costs roughly US15 each way. Keke (similar to a Tuk-Tuk) and motorbikes can take people from Freetown to Kent Beach to meet the boat. The Keke/motobike journey takes just over an hour. The first night has to be paid in advance by PayPal, a bank transfer or money sent via Orange Mobile. Guests can pay their bill buy credit/debit card, or cash; in Leones or in US Dollars. The room was a little dusty and the shower area could have done with a clean. The shower head and tap to turn on the water is very high. I could barely reach it. No plug sockets or power in any rooms. No/very poor WiFi throughout property. Maybe some at reception if you have your own phone and local SIM card. Can get noisy if a lot of guests and spoil the ambiance somewhat.
- Mihaela (10/5): Perfect holiday destination in Sierra Leone! - The 4 days/3 nights at Daltons Banana Guesthouse were the best days of our holiday in Sierra Leone - very friendly and helpful staff, delicious food, basic but good accommodation and great atmosphere. We enjoyed the historical tour and the snorkelling, eating fresh fish and other tasty meals, listening to the ocean waves and sharing stories over a beer (or more :)) with like-minded people.
Thank you Greg & team, you are doing a great job!
- Beatrix (10/5): Relaxing, nice, calm place. Must visit. - Everything was perfect and exceptional. The owner, the manager, the staff are very friendly. The guesthouse is right on the beach and in the rainforest. They offer nice foods and also drinks. There are 3 different type of categories of rooms. They offer various activities. We tried the historical walk which was a best choice. The fan would have been more effective.
- Samuel (8/5): Very good - Daltons was simple, striped back and perfectly formed. we were greeted and hosted wonderfully. the food is extraordinary (fresh barracuda ceviche).
- Khafila (10/5): - My husband and I had a fabulous night at Daltons on Banana Island! The boat that ferried us across was complimentary and while the waters were choppy, we felt perfectly safe. Dress appropriately as your clothing will likely get wet! Daltons is rustic and simple. The room was clean and perfectly adequate. The meals were simple but tasty. We took a tour of the Island and learned about the Portuguese and British use of the Island as a slaves holding station prior to the middle passage. All in all, we had a wonderful stay at Daltons and will go again, when are travels take us to Salone. Thank you!
- Vladimir_czech (10/5): Exceptional - It was a purely wonderful. We enjoyed our stay so much. Its not just about a perfect stop near by a sea and great meals they serve to guests. Its especial about warm welcome which you feel during a whole stay. Mr. Gregory who invented this place is super cool and very helpful man, who gonna arange whatever you ask for.
This guesthouse is on new level. We love it so much, so for sure we gonna come back soon.
Thanks from Czech Republic.
- Roy (8/5): Very good - The island is natural and practically untouched by humans. Village life and forest walks feel like you are going back in time. The locals are a real credit to Sierra Leone. There are no motor vehicles on the island. The rubbish caught in the wash of the sea and coming ashore on the beach included broken glass and used syringes with needles. Finding out that the Environmental Protection Agency supports a plan to turn the island into the largest sea port in West Africa with an estimated increase of 100 000 people, destruction of the forest to build a city as busy as Freetown and god knows what to the local sea life and annual migration of Whales.
- Samuel (10/5): Hidden gem - Peaceful beautiful place to stay. Friendly and attentive staff, a great respite from the bustle of Freetown. Well with the trip. We snorkeled , swam, and paddle boarded.
- Soren (4/5): Very very basic with more comfort found nearby - Good location, pleasant staff and entertaining host, good for snorkelling and diving excursions . Mosquito net over beds. Fresh fish on every menu. Plenty of hammocks. Daytime power point for phone charging. Very basic - poorly lit room w ensuite toilet w/o a seat, a lukewarm dirty shower w blocked drain, no towels or soap. Windows/door w/o mosquito net and as the nights extremely hot opening them for air(no fan, no sockets) let in winged and multi-legged creatures. Breakfast choice limited, no fruit, dinner choice fresh fish but uninspired cooking served in so poor light that the food could hardly be seen. No fruit after dinner. After nightfall everywhere is dark and although better eateries within 15 min walk this was for daytime excursions only. Nights so dark that reading or game playing impossible in the uncomfortably hard chairs (no cushions). The host mainly spent time entertaining friends with less time for other guests.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Megan (9/5): Superb -
- Benjamin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Arryor (2/5): Not satisfied - The view The bathroom has poodle of water in it.
The bed foam hangs over the concrete platform for the foam. The Foam is dirty when the covers came off and a bat flew out of the room at night. The boss doesn’t talk to his workers with respect, yells at them in front of guest. He is really unprofessional with his workers. This will be a wrong place to visit If you are allergic to cats. There are about 6 cats that come around you when you are trying to have your meal. My partner is afraid of cats so we have to eat in the bedroom every morning instead of enjoying the outside view from the dining area. There is an overhead platform by the dining area that is unsafe to be on top of, incase you want to go up there and dine. The wood on that patio is dry rotted and it’s wobbles when you are on top of it. My partner and I went up there to have a romantic breakfast but had to come back down from the fear of it collapsing. The view is the only thing good about this place but the overall safety, cleanliness and the bosses respect for his workers is poor.
- Inessa (10/5): a real gem in Sierra Leone - the place is a real gem. the staff are very nice and go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. super delicious meals (try groundnut curry with fish!!!), very big and clean rooms. ocean view. the property is right on the beach too. amazing hiking which I did on both days. very safe and the villagers are very nice. Greg the owner makes you feel very welcome and has lots of activities to offer including a trip to Turtle islands. nothing
- Ryan (9/5): Superb -
