- peerawat (5/5): too old - nothing too old and too expensive
- Ittaboon (2/5): Need renovation and fix the molds problem - Common areas and location right next to the lake The rooms and bath area are really worn down and require a major renovation. There are molds on the wood everywhere, rooted woods, algae on the onsen floor - it’s not just the appearance, but unhealthy, false smell and scent.
- Kwok pui (10/5): It is a pleasure stay - The property is full of charm . There is no private onsen.

- Miracosta (10/5): Hidden Gem! Must go - We stayed one night on the way back from Niseko to Chitose Airport.
Glad we stayed!
I did not expect anything, but it was right choice and beautiful locations.
This Ryokan is very personalized, well running great Japanese style Onsen hotel with great hospitality.
Room:
We reserved a room with outdoor bath on balcony with twin beds. Room was huge! It actually was combined 2 room together. One side by the entrance has huge couch and projector to watch movie, and bedroom has 2 KING beds with another mattress.
Onsen in the room on the balcony overlooks beautiful Shikotsu Lake and it was fantastic.
Food:
Dinner was served in a countywide setting restaurants, semi-private room. We really enjoyed the traditional Japanese decor with Tatami floor seating. Food quality was AMAZING. Has full Kaiseki but all the quality of foods, preparation was excellent. We enjoyed a lot. Breakfast was served at the different restaurants and this too was great quality.
There's not much to do around the area, but it was great stay away from the crowds from Niseko and we really had great stay.

- Tuong-Vi (10/5): Can't wait to return! - Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our private onsen was clean and relaxing, and watching the snow fall while soaking was mesmerizing! Excellent dinners, and breakfast was so healthy and filling we didn't even need lunch!
- Evelyn (9/5): - The staff were very welcoming and helpful! Beautiful dining experience and comfortable facilities

- AllenGuest (4/5): Disappointing - Easily the worst onsen hotel I stayed in Japan and I've stayed in many.
1, the shower head holder in the room is broken, half hanging from the wall. There's no checking and maintenance?
2, tv in the room, it's a smart tv which has Netflix and YouTube apps etc installed but the tv isn't connected to internet. Most hotel these days have smart tv and connected to the internet.
3, It's a Theatre Room but the big screen isn't connected to any movie apps or internet. What's the point???
4, there's no bedside table, so strange
5, the telephone in the room wasn't working. they sent a man to inspect and when he moved the sofa to check the wall connection....OMG.....it was so dirty behind the sofa, it was disgusting. I'm sure people do a much better job cleaning at home, but this is an expensive onsen hotel!!!!!
6, The Bar on 1F......completely meaningless because it simply just offer one free drink per guest and only two types of drinks available. It doesn't even have a paid menu so you can't even order anything else. What's the point? The guy serving the drink is also not friendly at all, seems like he doesn't really want me work there or enjoy his job (I can't blame him). Also, you are not allowed to bring the drinks out to enjoy in the lounge. Why? What's the point of a bar if it only provide two drinks? Why not just offer these free drinks with the other free drinks provided in the lounge and just give guest a coupon to exchange for the limited free drink? The current system just doesn't make sense.
7, Food is very average. The little buffet provided in breakfast is really pitiful. There were only a few items displayed on a big table and the choices were so few.
Very disappointed.
- Kevin (10/5): Top notch hotel with great food beside a very beautiful lake. - This was a very high class hotel but since it was low season the price offered was an excellent value. As a result the dinner, breakfast and facilities were top notch and was an excellent stay.

- Pongpiti (9/5): - Dinner & Breakfast was really AMAZING !!!
- Chee (10/5): Amazing stay in a warm and comfortable facility during snowy season - Room is facing Lake and there is sliding door which can be opened to allow fresh air and also there is a small terrace which is connecting to other rooms outside. Facility is warm and comfortable during cold weather. Private onsen can be booked and it was great experience with open air bath . It was snowing during my stay and deer is spotted near the lake which added to the amazing experience! Staff is kind and friendly. I was able to check in early. Food during breakfast and dinner is amazing. It would be great if there is massage and spa services.

- Jae Hee (10/5): 100

- Andreas (10/5): Sehr komfortables Hotel in schöner Lage - Schöne Lage m See, wunderbares Essen, schöne Ausstattung.

I chose 支笏湖 第一寶亭留 翠山亭 as my destination for a two-night stay to celebrate my 60th birthday but it turned out to be a disappointment and left me with unpleasant memories...Service standards may differ from person to person but I personally did not feel valued. When a guest chooses to spend two nights at a Ryokan for a birthday trip and it’s likely that they have certain expectations. Maybe it seems Japanese Ryokans may not take the guest’s feelings into account in this regard.
On the morning of July 7, I personally reported four issues to the front desk. And the explanations I received implied that all these problems were something I had to endure myself. The hotel only took basic action to the issues but couldn’t fully resolve them:
1. Bedside lamp malfunctioned
→ Fixed after maintenance and resolved
2. Water droplets forming and dripping constantly from the ceiling vent
→ Staff cleaned the area and resolved the issue
3. Insufficient air conditioning
→ A floor fan was added to the room and issue handled but not resolved due to structural limitations
4. Carpet soaked in multiple areas that signs of slight flooding affecting about one-fifth of the room and requiring shoes to walk inside
→ Water was absorbed and towels with small carpets laid over the affected carpet. Issue handled but not resolved due to structural limitations
Questions:
1. If the room had multiple structural issues and why was it offered to guests at all?
2. Knowing the air conditioning was insufficient and why wasn’t a fan placed in the room in advance?
3. After the guest reported structural issues and why wasn’t a room change arranged?
4. When irreversible problems had already occurred in the room and was handling the situation the only standard of service offered? Was there truly no other method or solution to comfort the guest?
Positives:
1. The round-trip shuttle service was punctual, comfortable and safe.
2. The two-night stay included two meals per night and per morning. The variety of dishes was rich with minimal repetition, beautifully presented and delicious.

- Prasit (9/5): Superb -
- Long (9/5): Superb - perfect location with wonderful dinning experience.
- Gianni (8/5): Very good - The private onsen bath was a real treat, bathing in the cold night air so enjoyable. Friendly and helpful staff and good Japanese food. The room was very warm which made it hard for me to sleep.
- Josephine (9/5): Superb -
- Rungsan (10/5): Extraordinary meals & nice view - Good foods and offer all day snack and drink until 11 pm
The room was specious and comfortable bed with luxury toiletries
- Cathy (9/5): Superb -
- Wei-ju (9/5): Good experience for traditional Japanese culture - Friendly staff:
Communication through booking.com message is efficient.
The receptionist came outside to greet us when we were parking our car. He offered to help with luggage.
Private onsen:
We booked the Twin room without opened-air bath. They have private onsen room with opened-air bath you can book for 1 hour use.
People with tattoo are not allowed to use public bath.
Room:
Much nicer than the photos on their website
Tatami area, bath tub, comfy doona and pillows
Dinner:
Private dining space. Traditional Japanese 10 courses meal with some interesting dishes. Mostly seafood. Very good way to experience Japan food culture.
I contacted the hotel about my fiancé’s seafood allergy. They kindly offered alternative. They served wagyu beef instead of seafood.
Breakfast:
Traditional Japanese food, fish, rice, miso soup, tofu. Very big meal. It was a bit too much for us.
Cleanness:
Hotel is very clean. The building is old so there are some spots which is understandable.
Premium time Ticket for Lake Shikotsu ICE FESTIVAL: can purchase at hotel for ¥1500. can enter 2 times, 20:15-21:15 and 10:00-12:00 next day. 20:15-21:15 is for premium ticket holders only, can enjoy the festival with less crowds.
5-10 minutes walk from hotel Toilet has urine smell
- Choi (10/5): amazing - snacks, beverages, coffee, the lake, open air bath I enjoyed the dinner tho, it can be improved :)
(10/5): The memorable stay - It was an extremely nice experience.
We booked the room with open- air bath tube. Really nice and happy choice.
The dinner and breakfast were also included. Both time the food was luxury and extremely fresh and mostly local. None
- Akram (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (8/5): It was nice and enjoyed the onsen and the Autum weather - Fully appericiated A lots of fish, perhaps like some meat dishes too.
- Tanun (9/5): Overall we were happy. - Very good breakfast. However, the BF room is quite difficult for elderly people to access. Our bathroom sink was clogged. It took a long time to drain.
- Chin (10/5): Exceptional - Food and wine
- Ruhland (9/5): Relaxing - Very nice staff. Beautiful location
- Proxymojo (10/5): A very pleasant stay - Lake Shikotsu is close to Sapporo and Chitose, but it’s pretty far from the crowds. There are not many hotels here and we enjoyed a quiet stay in this elegant lakeside ryokan. Dinner and breakfast were served with polite efficiency and the meals were delicious. A nice added touch were the complimentary after dinner sake available at the lobby!
- Olivia (9/5): Beautiful Onsens - The onsens were beautiful, the food was phenomenal, and the staff was attentive. I'm so glad that my husband I chose to spend our anniversary night here while visiting Hokkaido. When I booked through booking.com I must not have selected the number of people. This became apparent when I was charged $130 upon arrival for my husband. While this was a mistake on my part, it made for a big surprise and significantly changed the overall cost. So make sure you double-check how many people you are booking! Also the room was quite warm and the AC did little to nothing to cool it.
- Gilbert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ruby (10/5): Refreshing and recharging stay! - The environment is so peaceful, calm and relaxing. It’s very near to lake Shikotsu. Definitely a great choice to away from city hustle bustle. I feel so much refreshed and recharged after the stay. Staff are very friendly and warm, and surprisingly they can address my name when I first walk into the hotel. The room is with a Japanese tatami sitting area where is my favourite area. The bed is so comfortable and i had a good night sleep.
- Chi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (10/5): Heavenly stay at a cozy yet high-end ryokan with beautiful lake view - Amazing onsen both in the room and public, stunning lake view from the lounge, free tea and croissants that were not even advertised, shuttle to JR station, just generally a very elegant and cozy vibe. One of the best ryokans I ever stayed at. Breakfast was maybe a tad overly focused on tofu for my taste, but I bet that would be a kick for some. In any case it’s no issue as there is enough other tasty food
- Wing (9/5): Superb -
- Nitchanun (8/5): Very good -
- Oi (8/5): Decent and comfortable hotel, great location and nice staff. - Good location, decent hotel and nice staff. Love the terrace in the 2nd floor. I booked the hotel shuttle bus picking me up at the Chitose JR station but could not find the pick-up point and eventually missed the bus. Actually I had showed the relevant hotel webpage message to the JR staff but they pointed me to different direction (coz there is another west exit waiting room in north gate!!). Onsen is fine but only two seats for drying hair and tidying up, and I have to wait for 15 minutes!! And a lady sat there using cell phone and who knows whether she would take pics or not!! Breakfast is Japanese-style and not my cup of tea. I have to wait for coffee and bread which are available
in 1/F at 9am with limited supply!!
- Joseph (10/5): Great space love the location and staff. - Everything was great, staff, food, Onsen. Best hotel stay of my life.
- Kepatcher (9/5): Superb -
- Angeline (10/5): They have thought of everything to make your stay as confirtable and relaxing as possible. Hugh quality food at both bre - Excellent food and facilities. Was able to fully relax with both the private bath and communal baths. We also liked the different lounges in the ryokan with tea, coffee, games and freshly baked pastries that offered something special to each day. It was also very conveniently located close to both the bus stop and also activities along the lake (visitor centre, wild bird sanctuary etc) so was very easy to step out for a walk. The free shuttle offered to Chitose was also very convenient.
- Pb (8/5): Great and kvoely stay - The nostalgic feel when you enter the building. lots of timber and woods used. Love the views that it provides of Lake Shikotsu. tThe staff are excellent as are of all Japanese. Keiseiki dinner, which was included, was fresh. The service cre that served us, Sato san, patient in explaining all the disihes, kind and eloquent. Good job Sato san. a corner of the rm toilet had cobweb. this was allso noted on the 2nd floor, coffee lounge, top of the righthand corner of the right door to the balcony.
- Anonymous (9/5): Very satisfied - Very exclusive as there aren’t many rooms . hardly see anyone in onsen so it’s like having your own private onsen. Even have popsicle in onsen . Dinner is excellent . Room is spacious .
- Elli (9/5): Superb -
- Sono (10/5): Wonderful - The staff was incredible. The attention to detail and beauty was outstanding
- Kijeong (9/5): Superb - Everything Breakfast was the same everyday so little incentive to stay for more than 1 night.
Dinner course was ok but not great. I prefer kaiseki to course meal.
- Chi (9/5): Superb -
- Raymond (4/5): Disappointing - Not feeling good, need renovation long time ago!
- Tommy (9/5): Superb - The private tub in the room. Dinner was amazing. Service is excellent. Hotel furnitures needs updating
- Ricky (9/5): Superb -
- Angela (10/5): very relaxing and romantic. great for couples - clean, quiet, in-room private onsen n/a
- Kwok (10/5): It was a pleasant stay - The location is good nothing
- Keiko (8/5): Very good - It is a nice small hotel. We could relax at the hotel, feel like at home, and enjoy the scenery.
- shirininni (10/5): Great way to end a trip to hokkaido - This was our last stop before heading to catch our flight to the airport. The hotel can arrange a seat on the shuttle from sapporo Station to the hotel for 500jpy. The hotel itself was great. Very serene and quiet. Food was decent - we got the dinner and breakfast included. We booked a room without the private onsen but the private onsen baths were availble to us upon reuqest. The public baths were also quite empty. Beautiful and very relaxing stay.
- GlobeTrotting740448 (10/5): Unbelievable find - Your mind turns off the moment you arrive. It’s important to book the special ground floor suite as they have the outside private garden and spa. Our package included the dinner of 9 courses and the most sensational breakfast. Dinner is a ceremony that you will remember for years, words cannot describe ...highly recommend
- Tr1p1nfo (10/5): One of the best Ryokan! - Having stayed in numerous Ryokans, this is definitely one of the best I have been. The service was top notch Japanese hospitality. We arrived late at night due to unforeseen full Shinkansen (golden week) from Tokyo to Hokkaido, the staff called and waited at the front porch for us. The onsen was amazing and I felt so relaxed after the long day of flight+train+drive. We walked around Lake Shikotsu after breakfast the next day and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. The Ryokan serves small snacks and tea/coffee throughout the day. The guests lounge was really pretty and soothing to rest. No wifi available, but that's definitely a good reason to catch up with your love ones you travel with! Highly recommended and will be back again.
- shirlenep2014 (8/5): Quiet place for complete relaxation - A v quiet resort with dedicated staff attending to your every need. We booked the room with onsen. The room is spacious and very comfortable. Food is fabulous. It has 10 courses with fruit (hokkaido melon, cherry n yoghurt ice cream) to end the dinner. Each course is a few dainty mouths but each mouthful is full of flavours. It’s fine dining with high quality ingrediets eg abalone, crab, wagyu beef. A very good and satisfying dinner. The resort also serves inari sushi after 9pm with free coffee n tea. Highly recommend this resort. The resort has no wifi. This 4 stars. Otherwise I would have given 5. They also provide shuttle service to and fro Chitose station but must book with the hotel.
- vindalisay (10/5): Very good onsen hotel - It is an hour away from Sapporo and it has its own shuttle bus from Odori park. The rooms are very spacious. It has a separate toilet, urinal and bedroom. Using their futons as bed and laid on the living floor is the best place to sleep. The hot bath is located inside a separate room and you can open the window beside it for a better view of the mountains around the hotel and let the cold breeze as you dip into the hot water. The Japanese style food was perfect. From the starters, main dish and dessert. A small of everything good. Fresh vegetables and fish and meat. We just had an overnight stay but we took a hot bath 3x. We are definitely going back.
- vincentimbec (8/5): Peaceful & Calming Stay for Us - My friend and I stayed here for the last two nights of our 15-day trip in Hokkaido. The staffs were kind enough to contact us through email (we did not have Japanese number initially) to check with us our estimated arrival time so that they could prepare our dinner on time.
The dinner and breakfast were provided throughout our stay and their in-room bath was great and convenient. The only pity was our room was located on the first floor and we did not get a mountain view as advertised. Perhaps our room was the basic one, and thus did not come with a better view. The hotel was with a public bath, but we did not use it since we had in-room one.
As we had done a road trip and accumulated tonnes of trash, the staffs were kind enough to help us sort out and dispose of our trash from our room. The room was spacious, and the shower and toilet were separated. The hotel also have a big lounge to rest in.
The surrounding neighbourhood was calm and quiet, but not quite equipped with amenities since it is in the suburb. The only charm was the lake just right in view. The staffs were very hospitable and that made the entire stay very comfortable. We wanted some ice for our alcohol at night, but the bar was already closed. We asked the receptionist if we could get ice somewhere, and he went into the closed bar for us without hesitation to get a bucket of ice.
The place is great for couples on romantic stay and families for a short getaway with the amenities it provides.
- Ryun (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Kenneth (8/5): - Service is great but hotel is pretty old. Hot spring facilities looks tired and need to be refreshed. In room dinner and breakfast are pretty good. Location is great, minutes from local sightseeing points.
- ChaicharnD (8/5): Nice hotel with close to Shikotsuko lake - We stay in the room 110 that is non smoking room. This room has partial view of mountain and lake. The room is nice and compact. The food is good and also with the onsen. This hotel is 30 minutes away from the new Chitose airport that convenient to stay before leaving Hokkaido.
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Bangie (10/5): Clean and Japanese hospitality is excellent - I wish I can stay longer ..... there will always be next time highly recommend👍
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Jj1403 (10/5): Nice Room close to the lake, very friendly staffs - We stay there 1 night as 3 woman in a different age, and everyone really enjoy everything in the hotel. We had both dinner and breakfast and we love them. The staffs are very nice and helpful even they have limited English skill but we talk to them by using Google Trans. Both private onsen and common hotel are great! We all love this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Kit Ching Persy (8/5): -
- LuLu_HK (10/5): Great View, Great Onsen - Group of 4 spent one night here before our flight back as it is close to Chitose Airport.
We booked room with private onsen and view. Food, service, room, view exceed my expectation.
Room charge is expensive but it worth the money considering its food, service, view and room size as compare with other high end onsen hotel in Otaru.
The lake view is so great that attract us to go for a short walk around the lake in next day morning. I will definitely visit here again.
We drove here but hotel has shuttle bus to JR station.
