Presidential Suite with Extra Bed and Ocean View
This luxurious suite located on the 5th floor of the main building comes with two Simmons beds (55 in wide) and 26 foot tall floor-to-ceiling windows which feature panoramic views over the island chains of the Seto Inland Sea. A bedroom and a bathroom equipped with 2 bathtubs and shower are located on the second floor. The first floor living room features a dining table and a couch which can be converted into a bed.

As is generally the case with smaller Japanese properties outside of the big cities, we did not have to contend with any language barriers. Brett Cox, a member of the staff, is a native English speaker. He made our stay exceptional. Kudos also to the chef for accommodating vegetarians, not an easy feat in Japan. Omotenashi has been perfected by the Setouchi Retreat. Well done.

- Jeffrey (10/5): Stunningly stylish hotel with fabulous architecture, art, rooms, food and views. Don't miss it! - This was the most impressive hotel we stayed in in Japan. Our room was huge, with one wall entirely of glass, facing a garden and forested area. Originally built as a museum, the architecture and art are stunning. There are only seven rooms, with just one room per floor. The dining was exquisite with very professional staff. We had a private onsen bath that was open to the outdoors on one side. There is a beautiful lounge (with free prosecco) that we seemed to be the only guests to use, and a dramatic and absolutely gorgeous swimming pool with a view of the sea. The only disappointing thing was that although we'd brought our swim suits to Japan just for this hotel and the weather was actually hot, the beautiful swimming pool was closed for the season. There was no notice on the hotel's web site about opening and closing dates and that should be corrected.

Alles klopt hier : de sfeer, de rust, het eten maar vooral het personeel. Zelden zo’n fantastische groep mensen meegemaakt. Met grote dank aan Brett. - Darren (9/5): MAGICAL - What a magical place - loved everything about it - pure luxury - staff were incredible, especially Brett Cox who looked after us. Food was wonderful. He suggested we visit a local town and also suggested we drive to Kochi to experience the best Bonito (tuna) - we did and it was the best! The hotel in beautiful. Service impeccable. Would've loved to have been able to use the outside pool but it is only open in the summer months (2.5 months a year) BUT they do have a great indoor pool. I think they should invest in some new furniture in the communal areas, the pine furniture looks very out of date and not cool like the hotel

Great evening kaiseki and breakfast menu. Very professionnel personnel. Be conscious that a car is recommended if you wish to travel around. The outdoor swimming pool was closed off season (here mid-April). Access to the indoor spa was also limited.

- Lynne (10/5): Absolute luxury in a stunning part of Japan - Everything! The building was stunning (location, light and space), the service was outstanding and the rooms were beautiful. We didn’t want to leave. The food, in particular, was stand out. Nothing - it was perfect. Though if we could make a suggestion to enhance the experience, we would recommend offering hire bikes.

- Yi (10/5): Enjoyable and memorable stay - Enjoyed the stay in this property, quiet environment and the staff is so friendly, offering support to take photos for us for our celebration. Especially thanks to Brad who can speak good English to have good explanation and support during our stay and dinner time. I already recommend this property to others :) It took some time to drive from downtown city, please spare some more time so you can enjoy the stay here

- Kimber (10/5): Exceptional - All the staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The secluded location is great, overlooking the Islands of the Seto Inland Sea.
- Dimitre (10/5): Amazing stay - The building designed by Ando is amazing. The views from the room is spectacular. Food was very delicious and of course service is top notch. Not much to say. Minor things in the room- e.g. heat and light controls can be challenging. A little noisy AC.

- Moby (6/5): Great architecture waste of money - A museum by Tado Ando changed for the right reasons into a hotel far away from no where... the air conditioning is so loud that makes you very uncomfortable sleeping with it’s grilling sound. If you’re a golfer, heavy sleeper and wished to stay a night in a museum that’s the place to be
