Guest Reviews
- Andrew (6/5): - Cheap little older hotel. Close to main street. Nothing special but was quiet. Will stay again
- John (10/5): - Cool town, great owners
- Hans (10/5): - Everything was fantastic
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Stay for only 1 night, over all it was okay. Giving 4 out of 10. Most alarming was parking wasn't safe, because its not monitored by motel authority. You have to park on your own risk
- stephen (10/5): - Budget hotel staff if friendly fixed my non working TV remote quickly. Clean room no issues
- Jake (8/5): - Didn't look that great when I first walked in, but the room was very clean. Big screen TV. And a good rain shower head with plenty of pressure.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I didn't like that they had no contential breakfast and the hotel next to them had breakfast for a dollar more per night. Every thing was just old
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good place close to downtown. Walking distance to a few restaurants.
- suebN2874NC (4/5): A bit of a dump - Smelled like they were trying to hide a dead body with cheap perfume and disinfectant. LOL However it was quiet and near by lots of places to eat. Not great for walking around because the scenery was an old broken up parking lot. Worth every penny we spent on it.
- preston (4/5): - Was clean but very run down and noise was bad from showers and fans in other rooms
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay! - it was awesome very lovely
- Verified traveler (8/5): Highly recommend value! - Room was just fine, some noise was heard thru upstairs as the roof insulation seemed thin :/
- 439davea (8/5): Great value - I drove from Ontario to Edson Alberta twice this fall and I spent a week at the black gold inn and the room was very large , clean and comfortable and I'm guessing this is why the parking lot was full every night
- ehuber2017 (8/5): Very Clean and High Value - The room was very well kept, the bed was extremely comfortable, I wish my mattress at home was like the one in my hotel room. While the room might have been a little outdated, there is evidence that they are taking the steps to improve their rooms, overall this is an excellent inn given the price point.
- Verified traveler (2/5): rude staff, bad smelling hall way , very old rooms - rude staff, bad smelling hall way , very old rooms
- Verified traveler (4/5): So noisy and smell of smoking - So noisy and full of smoking smell.
- gilbert (6/5): fair - was an old building but the rooms were ok the district was run down
- James (6/5): About what you expect hotel - Staying at this hotel was exactly what I expected. The cheapest hotel within a hundred miles. It was normal for what I paid. The neighbours were noisey till 11:00 pm but the yelling stopped about then. It was a non smoking hotel with the smell of smoke all of the way through the hall. As a smoker it was inconvenient while I was going outside to have a smoke.
- Verified traveler (8/5): great value! - not bad for oilfield workers, carpets were clean. I have stayed in much more expensive hotels that were not as clean as this one.
- Verified traveler (4/5): A place to sleep - Sleep only not for long term comfort or vacationhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhggdfjgdtgffgffffffggcccvvgfgggghhhggg
- Verified traveler (6/5): Family of 6 - We booking in this hotel because it would accommodate our family of 6 It was nice to have 3 beds so no one was in the floor. Though I thought I book a room with 3 queen beds it turned out to be 3 doubles
- Ann (4/5): OK & NOT OK - OK for a 1 night stay & for what we paid. The microwave was helpful to us to heat up some leftovers & not have to go out late (there is also a full-size fridge which is hardly necessary).
Room cleanliness seemed OK (better than the hallways etc), but things like dark carpet & dark towels are not what we like, also the tub did not drain quickly, so standing water while showering :-(
Worst was the bed--it was squeaking & squawking very loudly with the least little movement (even just sitting on the edge), so poor night's sleep.
Behind reception area a sofa with blanket could be seen where the male on duty could catch some rest, but that did not look very professional.
Cannot give more than 2 out of 5 rating.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean, comfortable, affordable place to sleep. Free wifi, hot shower. Bonus: there was a full size fridge in the room. Exactly what we needed in the middle of a long road trip
- 49GP (4/5): Run Down - This a lesson in not accepting two reviews only, particularly when one was written a year ago. This was once a good set-up but is now terribly run down.
The good points weres the price; large rooms; excellent lighting over the bathroom mirrors and the wifi was very good.
The not so good were that the windows had to remain shut as there was no security and it was hot while we were there. The bathroom exhaust fan came on automatically with the light. The fan was well past it's use by date as the noise was so loud it would surely wake people up down the hall let alone your partner should you need to go to the bathroom during the night. The toilet seat was broken; lighting was poor and there were only two pillows. We found the smoke alarm in a drawer which explained the hole in the ceiling with wires hanging down. The shower was broken so more water came out the bath tap than the shower which made it somewhat difficult.
- dennisv323 (10/5): Clean and smoke free !!! - I needed a Friday night stay to go hunting early on Saturday so I wanted an economical place. My concern is that economy can mean a horrible experience.
This hotel however was very clean and no smoke smell in the suite or the rest of the building.
- 728ald728 (8/5): Just What We Needed - When heading halfway across the country by road, hotels are often a decision of necessity vs added amenities. The Black Gold was all that was needed. Basic room with good beds, no bugs, no visible cleaning issues, and a tv for the unwind.
Greeted efficiently and cheerfully, checkout was easy, and old timey. Handwritten receipts and metal door keys. Nostalgia! THIS is a roadside motel from my youth!
Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, tv is big and clear, wifi is excellent! It's a place to stay a night, get some rest, and carry on. At a great price!
Public areas inside are clean, and the parking lot is immaculate! There appears to be a gas barbecue for guest use, and a small picnic table out front.
Although right on the highway, our room was quiet. Even with windows open.
Friendly check in. Obviously a family business.
Highly recommend for a no frills, basic hotel experience.
