Nadine (8/5): Disappointing overall — despite great facilities, the experience did not meet five-star standards or - I stayed here over the weekend and while the facilities themselves are great and well-maintained, the overall experience didn’t fully meet my expectations. The amenities are definitely a strong point and have a lot of potential, but there were a few aspects of the stay that let it down. Because of this, the experience didn’t quite match the standard I was hoping for. With some improvements in overall service and attention to detail, this could be a really great place to stay I stayed here over the weekend and unfortunately the experience did not live up to the expectations of a five-star establishment. While the facilities themselves are great, there were several issues that impacted the overall stay. The safe in the room was not operational, which was quite inconvenient. The bath towels were worn and not of the quality you would expect from a hotel of this standard. The food was also disappointing, particularly breakfast, which lacked quality and variety. Considering the price we paid, the experience did not feel like good value for money. Overall, there is potential, but significant improvements are needed to meet five-star standards.

The garden is beautiful, and the internet is good. The fine dining dinner was superb, and the breakfast was very satisfying. Please check the electrical in NQ3 - it tripped a couple of times during our short stay. The government roads need resurfacing.

I was told that my accommodation was not paid by booking.com, when I checked out, was kept waiting for almost 20min while the lady kept on checking. Eventually she confirmed it’s paid, on my way home, I received almost 10 missed calls from the hotel, telling me the card payment had declined. My birthday weekend was absolutely ruined by Dehoek, only to confirm later in the afternoon that they did receive full payment and apologise for the error after I had sent them confirmation emails from bookings.com and proof of payment.

The management and staff, with the exception of the Chamber Maid and the Gatekeeper, are not very friendly and not very motivated. Even simple requests are ignored. Dominique (1/5): Definitely not worth it! - The property itself is in a really lovely location with lots of trees and nature. The rooms are functional and the newer wing has modern deluxe suites. The service, food and level of professionalism was definitely not 5 star at all. We arrived and the reception was empty with the door closed (it was a lovely day). We had to walk around for a while to find anybody to help us. Then I was told I needed to pay for the room which I had already paid through booking.com. It was not a great start. I booked massages and again there was nobody in the waiting area so our massage was interrupted by other guests hollering for attention. Extremely unprofessional and certainly not the service I get in Jhb for a fraction of the cost. I ordered lamb chops for dinner that were smothered in gravy over uncooked and unbrowned fat. The food was cold and definitely not worth the price paid for a simple 3 course set meal and a bottle of wine. I find it unacceptable that people can be charged that price when there are so many other 5 star establishments that are truly 5 star. In addition, there was nobody around to wait the only two tables in the entire restaurant. We had to pour our own wine, water etc and wait for extended periods of time for simple requests like a fish knife to have with the fish and a steak knife for chops. Breakfast was a similar experience. Nobody around to wait tables, omelette came without toast that had been ordered and which was cold by the time the toast arrived with frozen butter. In addition, and of no fault of the establishment, there was a veld fire that broke out during the afternoon. It was absolute chaos with staff screaming and running with buckets to try and stop the fire. Nobody communicated with us and merely left us to our own devices. There was no proper safety management or management around! All in all a really dismal experience for what was meant to be a relaxing night away.

Home from home, and so close to Johannesburg No generator noise, but understandably a fire interfered with their main electricity line in. At least we had electricity the whole time we were there.

The bar staff must be fully aware of their stock items as I was made to opt for a choice I did not like at an additional cost of R300; whilst what I prefer was reported to be out of stock only to discover a day after that it is in stock.

We had a lovely room and especially enjoyed the underfloor heating in the spacious bathroom. We were very pleasant surprise by the "gourmet" fish and chips we got through room service which was excellent. We found the staff we met on the property to be friendly and engaging, enhancing our enjoyment of our short break. We really enjoyed our dinner as well; the broccoli in particular was exquisite. The twin fireplaces in the lounge were extremely effective and made the lounge a very pleasant venue for relaxation in the nippy late winter evening. Our impression is that the focus is more on corporate events rather than "retail" accommodation and couples on their own may find it a bit empty, at least off-season. I think the pricing is a bit on the high side and that includes all meals and drinks particularly because there are a number of reasonably similar alternatives nearby.

The fine dining is delicious and the various flavours within the meals super. The rooms need to be checked before the guest arrive to ensure everything is in working order.
