Guest Reviews
- Jaco (10/5): The views, room, wine and food complemented each other to create a perfect experience - We loved everything of our stay, from the minute we arrived we got spoiled. Greeted by the most friendly staff and the complementary wine with arrival was the start of a perfect stay! That we only stayed one night
- Nola (10/5): - That the team keep trying to improve on their work
- Yulia (10/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): We had a lovely stay , breakfast was lovely I just wish the orange juice had been fresh and the cappuccino a proper one - Loved the privacy round the suite . Liked the size of the suite it was very generous Nothing to dislike well maintained
- Clare (9/5): Riverside lodge serenity with perfect hospitality and excellent features. - Serenity on the Hermanus lagoon, pure remote bliss, but a short walk from the romantic and small town of Stanford. The personal touches and friendly hosts - the perfect wilderness river lodge experience. I got zapped by mozzies - but that’s not going to stop me staying again!

- Cameron (9/5): We only wish we’d had longer - definitely a weekend or more needed to fully enjoy the views, river, beautiful walks and - Beautiful location, amazing mountain and river views, incredibly peaceful and a fantastic, very safe and secure and the cottage accomodation was very comfortable and spacious Nothing
- Wayne (9/5): - The staff were excellent
- Susan (10/5): - Excellent location, wonderful tasting menu
- Claudia (10/5): -
- Alphonso (10/5): Amazingly enjoyable - Breakfast was good, music playlist even better Light outage but it rained like crazy so technical difficulties expected
- Nathaniel (9/5): Comfortable, rustic stay - Lovely, smaller scale family-run wine estate. Excellent, reasonably priced informal restaurant (and I believe there’s a formal option as well). Tasty wines! Great staff who we had a lot fun talking to. Lovely views of the mountains. Easy access to Walkers Bay, Gansbai, and Hermanus. No draw backs! Not super fancy. Felt like a real place.
- Su (10/5): - Beautiful setting, wonderful rooms, friendly staff
- Marijn (7/5): Leuk verblijf op prachtige plek - Prachtige ligging, mooi uitzicht. Goed meewerkend personeel.
- Lukas (8/5): beautiful place, lovely location, perfectly relaxing spot for a breakaway - beautiful place, lovely location, perfectly relaxing spot for a breakaway really good food but pretty slow with service
- Benno (10/5): Highly recommended for luxury stays. - On arrival we were upgraded to the Springfonteun River Lodge ( on the same property). These luxury suites are so comfortable and private, we were blown away. The breakfast (included) was superp.
- Lesley (10/5): -
- Kudla (10/5): Best stay ever - Tanya and whole staff were super nice and accommodating and welcome us with the glass of wine.
Beautiful and breathtaking views from our window or patio. Nothing

- Anne (10/5): Perfection in a serene setting - Absolutely everything it’s superb from being met by super friendly staff to checking out. The bedroom was a dream overlooking the river. The food fabulous and the wine is fantastic too. Highly recommend we would definitely return. It’s perfection. There was nothing to dislike
- Gabriele (10/5): - Alles super
- Karen (10/5): Fantastic, relaxing in a lovely setting. - The cabin was beautiful with every possible comfort imagined. Big tub to soak in, fireplace, etc. The staff were friendly and always ready to assist. The dinner at the restaurant was excellent. I would recommend this property to all my friends and family. It is close to town and other amenities.
- Alison (10/5): Amazing experience! - Amazing stay! All staff were wonderful- giving a very personal experience through a genuine caring and friendly attitude. We did the 10 wine tasting experience alongside dinner that was our favourite meal in our whole South Africa trip. The estate is beautiful and the rooms lovely, comfortable and thoughtfully prepared. We came away with lots of amazing memories and wine! We will definitely return! Nothing
- Elna (9/5): -
- Matthias (5/5): - Der herzliche Empfang und die freundlichen Mitarbeiter. Unterkunft im Südafrikanischen Frühling für uns nicht geeignet. Im Sommer sicher toll...
- Con (9/5): -
- Joan (9/5): - The staff were brilliant.
- Badenhorst (4/5): Friendly staff - good food -poor security - GOOD Next to public road - poor security - broken furniture - non TV
- Louis Louw (8/5): -
- claire (3/5): Not great, not value for money, overpriced - Well where do I start, upgraded to another room due to our geyser not working, defo not an upgrade.
Windows leaking, gas ran out, not enough blitz to start a fire, wet wood, no scissors or any utensils for just in case, no cupboard, no microwave, shower not hot enough. A series of tragic events, also no one really manning the cell number properly. WiFi was terrible.
Then moved back to our original place and have to ask for a bath plug to bath.
Not great Quite a few things as above, breakfast oats, no nuts, tasteless.
This farm needs better management and hospitality.
- Isabella (9/5): It was a lovely 2-night stay. - The breakfast was delicious. Nothing - it all exceeded expectations
- Caron (9/5): Well be back! - Beautiful location - peaceful .
- Erik (9/5): Superb - Great place with super nice staff. Great looking estate. Our stay in the 'fisher man's hut' was great. Very nice food / restaurant.
- Thor (9/5): Pleasant and good value - Lovely grounds, nice cabin, good wine, pleasant atmosphere. We stayed overnight, but 2 nights would have been better. The food was ok, not great. The breakfast was so-so.
- Graeme (7/5): Enjoyed it - Setting
Rooms
The view
The staff Breakfast slow
Waited a long time
Food not all brought out together for group
Quality not the best for the amount being charged
- Graham (7/5): Good -
- Bettina (10/5): This place is absolutely beautiful and the staff is very friendly and highly professional! We also loved the wine :) we -
- Angela (10/5): Sweet little retreat. Perfect for an overnight stay in the country close to Stanford village. - The Fisherman’s Cottage was a delight. Small but great for a one night stay. Loved the personal touches - a warm note from the team and lavender flowers dotted throughout. A desk would have been welcome. The very bright lights on the front of the main building diminished the impact of our stargazing.
- Anthony (6/5): would not return.pictures on booking.com misleading - swimming pool and restaurant Cottage needed much care.from bedside lamp not working, no chair in bedroom.quilt on bed for winter use.Way to heavy for no air con.No sheet under quilt so on and so on
- Miriam (10/5): Fabulous! - The accommodation, food and wine is fabulous. The staff is absolutely fantastic, very helpful and super friendly. A place to enjoy and to relax.
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our night in Fisherman's cottage, nestled away at the bottom of the garden with stunning views and a comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The shower was rather difficult to control, burning hot or freezing cold but we enjoyed the fact it was open to the sky.
- David (8/5): Very good - We had no hot water in the bathroom!!!
- Paul (5/5): Passable - There was no hot water available on the bathroom
- Duncan (5/5): Location stunning but never luxury, big disappointment - The breakfast was fine and the location of the estate and cottages was stunning. Staff were great The cottage was described as luxury truth was basic.External shower,as is not uncommon an open bathroom with no screening at the windows. No A/C.No room for internal seating and no loungers for the outside. On 3 external walls rat traps were present.Hot water failed for half our stay.
- Martin (6/5): Pleasant -
- James (9/5): Lovely location and staff -
- Harry (9/5): LOVELY PLACE BUT REMOTE - A LOVELY RUSTIC LOCATION,IDEAL FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL. SMALL BED AND MENU COULD HAVE BEEN MORE ENTICING
- Stewart (9/5): Simple luxury! - The quality of food and wine served was excellent, the accommodation was ideal for a quiet getaway, the staff were excellent; well trained, highly attentive and very friendly. Simple luxury!
- George (10/5): A fantastic place to relax, try some new wines and enjoy a bit of luxury! - Amazing food, wine and scenery!! The staff were very welcoming and the shared pool was fun in the sun. Nothing
- Bessie (9/5): Fantastic stay - Really great place. Lots of space. Lovely setting with a pool. Fireplace and wood for indoor fire. Breakfast was fantastic. Staff were great. N/a
- Nicole (6/5): Pleasant - Frindly staff and beautuiful setting. Nice big pool. We are South Africans and really expected to be able to braai as it is an inherent part of our culture. While beautiful braai facilities are visible on all pictures and the description of our cottage is that the indoor fire place is its central feature, no wood was provided and no braaing is allowed on the property. We were told that this is due to foot traffic that needs to be creatwd for 2 restaurants on the property, but having already selected to use the accommodation guests should be able to select their preference in terms of dining options.
- Ella (9/5): Slice of heaven - Beautiful little place, off the beaten path.
Stayed in the fishermans hut, which was so cool and traditional. Super quiet and peaceful. We were treated like royalty with lots of extra touches like biscuits in the room, a welcome drink on arrival and lush dinner by the fire
- Groenewald (8/5): Very good - The spacious rooms, being so close to nature, cleanliness and the ease of parking. The room was stuffy upon arrival, and no windows were open (probably to keep insects out). There were no fans in the rooms (probably for eco-friendly reasons). The rooms were close to a road, which was quiet, but fast-moving vehicles could still be heard in the room. The breakfast offering could be improved—the standard was very average and not commensurate with the room cost. Despite being called the River Room, the river was far away - lots of bullrushes but no water nearby. The swimming pool was disappointing - it wasn't clear if it was a black pool with patches or just dilapitated.
- Catherine (8/5): A lovely last minute stopover that we thoroughly enjoyed - The property is in a beautiful location, a bit off the beaten track
- Colleen (8/5): Very good - Situation was perfect for us
- Espen (10/5): Exceptional - The crew was excellent.
- Jan (9/5): The dining room facility was very pleasant and the staff were professional- friendly & well trained. - The breakfasts were splendid. Our accommodation was in The Fisherman Cottage - a genuine relic, completely authentic from the outside, very comfortable and pleasant on the inside. The weather was a little too cool for us to use the open-air shower, but the bathtub in the bathroom, with underfloor heating, was very acceptable.
- Nicky (8/5): A restful and enjoyable stay! - We stayed in Milkwood cottage, which was lovely! Spacious and very comfortable.
We had dinner in the restaurant one evening, which was excellent. The food (and wine) was great and the staff attentive and charming.
- Manuel (10/5): A gem in south africa! - This place is such a gem, it's hard to describe it in a few words! Lovely people, lovely food, lovely rooms, great wine, and absolutely nothing to mention that was negative. If you're looking to switch off, enjoy nature yet have a place close to hermanus come here, it's beautiful! They have brand new accommodation so check those out as well!
- Gerti (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mikefizzo (10/5): Amazing. Just amazing. - We spent just one night at the Springfontein Wine Estate, but it left us wishing we could stay longer. From the moment we arrived, Nozi greeted us at reception with a warm smile and friendly welcome, setting the tone for our stay. The staff’s friendliness and willingness to go above and beyond made a real difference. Special thanks to Zinhle, the manager, who even started a fire in our cottage after dinner, making the evening even more cozy. Busi attended to us during dinner and breakfast, ensuring our meals were served with a personal touch.
The food was excellent, offering great value for money, and the flavors left us thoroughly impressed. Walking around the farm was a delightful experience, with beautiful views and serene surroundings providing the perfect escape. Springfontein Wine Estate is not just about great wine; it’s about exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!
- Melvina (10/5): Excellent service, staff and food!! A true gem if a place. - Everything...its seldom that you get all three elements of hospitality to a high degree....exceptional staff , great quality food and excellent accommodation. We were greeted and were treated like family from start to finish!! Can't list anything.
- Liesl (8/5): Very good - This is an absolutely breathtaking wine farm. I was so blown away by the friendliness of the staff, and their wine knowledge is exceptional. Thank you for going the extra mile and making my fiancé's 50th so special. Unfortunately, I had booked the Wortelgat restaurant for dinner and paid a deposit but the restaurant was closed when we arrived. It would have been good to be informed of this beforehand, but Ulumbaza wine bar is beautiful, and we had a delicious meal.
- Rohan (8/5): Overall a pleasant stay - Good facilities and location Small detail items such as hand wash soap were omitted. Breakfast was underwhelming.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nush (10/5): Amazing place! - Amazing time at the estate! The service, the food, and the farm were all excellent.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janelee (10/5): Exceptionally Beautiful and Serene. - This was by far one of the best properties I have stayed at. As a first time visitor to Stanford I would recommend Springfontein Wine Estate to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.
- Anna (9/5): Superb -
- Eilke (9/5): Amazing place with wonderful staff, delicious food and a beautiful setting - Lovely farm with beautiful views. The place is really exceptional, nice gardens, swimming pool, the restaurants are excellent, the staff super friendly and the wine farm is a pleasure to walk through nothing
- Marinus (10/5): Can we go back tomorrow, what a great place - What a gem is this place, superb location, excellent food, great staff. Beds at the pool were broken
- Alphan (8/5): Very good - My only negative comment was that milk/tea/coffee was not supplied to us for the second day That thing for fertility charm is offensive to Christians
- Alewyn (6/5): good stay but could be improved - food was excellent and staff as well- friendly and efficient rooms very sparse. no chairs to sit on in room and nothing beside the beds. so everything goes to the floor. winter style duvet on the bed for summer which does not work. drive to the restaurant to eat due to distance from rooms...but views great and comfortable rooms otherwise
Access road is terrible and being worked on- no fault of the venue
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Frans (9/5): Superb -
- Tracy (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Anja (10/5): Nature at its Best! - Springfontein Wine Estate was our last stop after a round trip through the Western Cape, including the Garden Route, on which we had already experienced some wonderful places. We hadn't expected that the real highlight of the tour would come at the very end, namely at Springfontein. We can only agree with the other reviews from the last few weeks: a wonderful place to enjoy nature, indulge in culinary delights or explore the Cape Floral Kingdom. Top quality wines and food!!! We will definitely be back, but then with more time :-). Thanks to everyone!
- Alan (9/5): A good stay for a working night - Excellent breakfast - really good cottage with great privacy and well appointed. Shower cold tap almost impossible to turn off
A light outside not totally great at night when darkness wanted
Blinds or curtains in more windows would be good
A bathroom door is a good thing to have - no door
- Linda (9/5): Superb -
- Lesley (10/5): Very relaxing and enjoyable weekend. - We stayed in Riverside Cottage 2. It was lovely. The private pool with loungers was amazing and made the stay perfect. Breakfast was fabulous with a great selection. The Ulumbaza restaurant and wine bar had a lot of character and a lovely ambiance. The weather was great so we had supper and breakfast outside. We also had the 9 course dinner in the Wortelgat fine dining restaurant. What an experience! Especially when paired with their wines. Springfontein has an amazing selection so this was a great way of tasting many of them. All the staff throughout our stay were exceptional. Very friendly and they could not do enough for us to make our stay relaxing and comfortable. The estate is about 10 minutes from Stanford. Nothing
- Sandra (10/5): Restful and warm stay - I just stayed at one of the cottages at Springfontein wine estate, the Fisherman one! I fully enjoyed it, very peaceful and serene. It was the perfect getaway I was looking for... and I discovered their wines! A great place to stay, eat, and just chill out of Cape Town. Well done to the team, thank you for taking such good care of us.
- Hanlie (7/5): Good -
- Jaco (9/5): Superb -
- Emil (10/5): Beautiful wine farm and untouched nature. 10/10! Will be back. - Beautifully situated in a very peaceful environment. Great staff, great food, and great wine. Had dinner at the ULUMBAZA wine bar(n) which was just fabulous. The last piece of road to get there was quite a hustle, but they are currently repairing (tarring) it.
