Guest Reviews
- ray (8/5): - Room clean and nice shower room. Good outlook from breakfast over the river.
- EMMALINE (3/5): Staff pleasant, location beautiful, room poor. - Location stunning The room was tired, with threadbare carpet and furniture, peeling paint and old fashioned. The window didn’t close.
- Claire (9/5): Great place to stay with our young family - The gentleman on the reception desk when out of his way a few times to help us out. The 2 staff members we spoke to were very friendly and helpful. The poor lady at the bar taking customers orders for food and drinks was also needed at an another part of the hotel so she had to keep running back and forward to the bar which meant there was quite a long wait for customers to get served!
- magpiechaser (9/5): A memorable location right on the Thames. - The situation is truly memorable, right on the banks of the Thames by Shillingford Bridge, all of which formed a fantastic view from our window. The staff were outstanding and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and there was a wide range of choices on the menu. Afternoon tea was really scrumptious! The room was big, as was the king size bed. Decor is getting tired, especially externally. Electrics to the lights in our room were a bit erratic, but the action to get them looked at by an electrician was prompt. Also, common with many hotel bathrooms, lack of a shelf to put your toiletry bags etc. on is annoying. As the bathroom here is big, there's no excuse for not fitting one.
- Mercedes (4/5): - Location, staff, food ok. Very rundown and dirty.
Zoals Windsor, The Chilterns en zelfs The Cotswolds. De prijs/ kwaliteit verhouding is goed. Maar de authenticiteit/oudheid van het hotel laat zijn sporen na.
- Marie (9/5): - Staff were very helpful arranging ground floor accommodation for my stair challenged brother. Nice view over the canal. Good space in the room and nicely refurbished bathroom.
Plenty of parking space

- Sally (9/5): - Lovely clean and comfortable room with river views. Excellent evening mea incudedl. Friendly, helpful staff. Another enjoyable stay and great value.
- Sandra (5/5): - Peaceful surroundings
- geoff (8/5): -
- Helen (9/5): If we are ever down this way again we would book this hotel. - Perfect location. Comfortable room. Friendly staff. The poor waitress was having to multitask at the evening meal: serving at the bar as well as in the dining room which meant there were gaps in the service.
- Sonja (8/5): Great stay, great room, great views - Great views, great room
- Daniel (10/5): -
- D8829DLjulias (10/5): Warm welcome and great food at Shillingford Bridge. - Fantastic visit to Shillingford Bridge today. Food was fresh and home-cooked, the location beautiful, but special mention must go to the staff, who were so friendly and welcoming. There's a real sense of wanting to do things well and properly for guests - nothing was too much trouble and we felt very welcome. Recommended.
- Nicole (7/5): Mixed bag but overall good - Lovely setting. Comfortable room. Nice dinner altho a long wait for it (with no compensation). Nice staff Long wait for dinner with no real explanation and no compensation. But the dinner was very nice once or came.
Breakfast was disappointing
- PAUL (8/5): enjoyable hotel - very good breakfast with excellent menu choice. Staff very friendly and inviting. Really located well on the river. Very dog friendly. To summarise an enjoyable hotel. breakfast at times was lukewarm.
- Peter (6/5): -
- Stephen (7/5): -
- kathy (10/5): Great location, helpful staff and a comfortable relaxing stay - Great views of the River Thames. Not particularly modern room but very clean, well equipped and comfortable. And the bathroom was very up to date with bath and both overhead and lower shower heads. Excellent breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff. Recommend the lemon and pea risotto for dinner Nothing - except the pothole in the car park…
- MARIA (10/5): Lovely relaxing stay in a beautiful setting. Very friendly and professional staff and excellent food - Breakfast and dinner were really good. Excellent food and service
- Xylocopa (10/5): Clean, welcoming - Popped in for coffee when on a walk along the river... very welcoming, very friendly, clean, bright, nice coffee. Right by the river. Thank you for the hospitality.
- Claire (7/5): Good value and location for a quiet dog friendly night away - On the river, large river view room, could bring our dog. Lovely walk along river from hotel. Friendly staff. Bathroom was nice. Bedroom had everything we needed. Pool table was a bonus. Food was good. Not enough staff sometimes. One poor young lady was running around all over the place and appeared the only one supporting diners and covering the bar and clearing away tables. Felt there needed to be more staff at certain times. A dog poo bin in the vicinity would be good. The carpets all over needed a good hoover. Some large bits were still on the carpet on our 3rd day (we stayed two nights) in main parts of the hotel. At breakfast at 8am this morning we were the first ones down and the floors were terribly dirty. It’s a shame as the location and staff were lovely but the hotel needs some a little bit of an extra clean in main areas and the radiator in the bathroom was very dusty..
- Jane (8/5): Great location, great staff! - Fantastic location, with very friendly and helpful staff
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Katharine (8/5): - Lovely location and excellent breakfast Bar lady and also waitress had no idea what she was doing. As evidenced by our evening meal bill ended up on someone else's bill. Otherwise staff were good
- John (6/5): - Location by the Thames and Bridge.
Access to Oxford and surrounding area. Hotel dilapidared and poorlyy presented..
Bar service poor and untidy coffee machine and product sour with undrikable beverage
.Room small and cramped.
Pile of used washing on stairs landing..
- Travel608915 (2/5): Cold crap - The only positive thing in my visit for breakfast today was the service. June and chrissy were amazing, 10/10 to them. The kitchen is definitely missing Belinda ( the 👌chef). My food was cold, unappealing and tired, I’m not one to leave reviews, but for 18.50£ I felt insulted. Terrible terrible terrible
- Richard (7/5): -
- Geoffrey George (9/5): - Very good dinner and breakfast. Room very clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful.
- Julian (9/5): Great place goid value - Location Noise from other rooms
- Anthony (7/5): -
- 463PeterB (10/5): Fantastic Hotel. Delightful stay. - Myself and my gf went on a Groupon deal last Saturday and once again we had a great time. We arrived well before check in time, which was no problem at all. I had a drink in the bar and watched the football while she went for a swim in the river. Our room was ready two hours early. We had a lovely river view room and the room was spotless. We had a two course dinner with a free bottle of wine in the restaurant and the food and wine were faultless. The bed was very comfortable and we both slept extremely well before a full English breakfast in the morning. The hotel is great as are the staff. We will be back.
- James (8/5): Very good - Nice room, comfortable bed, clean bathroom, lots of hot water.
- Roberts (7/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): Welcoming, great food, comfortable and clean - Two exceptional, plentiful and freshly cooked breakfasts and an excellent evening meal. Without exception the staff were welcoming, friendly and really helpful. Clean and comfortable room with plentiful tea, coffee and milk (no need to ask for extra during our two nights stay). Nice walk along the Thames path two minutes away. The parking signs insist on payment (cash or app) on arrival but there's a login in reception that takes your registration to cover your stay. A little confusing if you don't know, but the day's parking that we didn't need to pay for was redeemable against a soft drink. The decor is definitely dated but that didn't detract from our enjoyment.
- Sherry (9/5): Lovely two night break in a pretty part of Oxfordshire - The location was fabulous. Our room had a river view. Well located for looking round the pretty villages of Oxfordshire.
The staff were so helpful and friendly, and the food was delicious! I recommend the chicken supreme, garlic prawns for starter and the duck salad for starter too. All fabulous!
Breakfast was lovely with a good choice.
- Rachel (10/5): - Location was great and staff were very friendly and helpful. N/A
- Andrew (8/5): A pleasant location for exploring the Chilterns, Thames Valley and Oxford. - Spacious hotel in nice location. Substantial breakfast. -
- Daniel (8/5): -
- DAVID (9/5): - all very good
- Hadyn (8/5): Amazing. - The bathroom in our room was incredible. The staff were amazing and the way they were with my dog was incredible for his first time away.
Bed was also very comfy. I don’t have an complaints at all but we liked relaxing in the room and in hotels I’ve gone to for work I am able to sign in my apps and watch films where as I couldn’t here but the over all experience was amazing and there was plenty finances to walk even with a river of flown a bit.
- suha (4/5): -
- Will (10/5): We stayed overnight whilst visiting family. The hotel was perfect and breakfast was good. Staff went out of their way to -
- Pete (7/5): Was good and lovely location . - The room was large and modern but super hot even with the heating off . The lack of bar staff and one in particular just obviously didn’t want to be there and needs some serious retraining in customer service .
- Max (4/5): -
- David (8/5): Good accommodation for my stay - Good value and delicious breakfast included Nothing all good
- Stanley (9/5): Good value for stay - Spacious and nice outlook Couldn’t get bbc 1 on television as it needed a password and there were no staff available even though it was only 21.30
- Brian (8/5): Very good - Location clean comfortable delicious food prompt service TV reception
- Keith (7/5): -
- charlie (8/5): -
- Beverly (9/5): - staff couldnt do enough for you, lovely room overlooking the river, excellent food
- Michael (6/5): The place and location was lovely but the room could do with updating and repairing. - Overall the food was excellent and the staff were good. The bedside lights in the room were not working.
There was no hot water in the morning.
- Vicki (8/5): - Character of the building Dated in places
- Nicola (8/5): Comfortable convenient good breakfast - Clean, shower, warm, pleasant decor Much too dark, faced other windows and no blinds so closed curtains. Lack of lift though reception helped with one of my bags. Got sciatica so a bit slow
- Caroline (8/5): - Lovely location but room was very hot a noisy by the bridge and I’m deaf! Had a lovely time though x fab location Hot and noisy room
- Mark (7/5): -
- Michael (3/5): Location wonderful. Breakfasts very good. Actual accommodation very poor and so disappointing - Breakfasts were exceptionally good. Food tasty. Two single friends, two rooms, same night, same price. Reserved same time in one booking.
ROOM A: Good standard. River view a bonus
Large, spacious & airy.
4 Poster double bed.
Large bathroom with bath & shower.
Wardrobe.
Fan. Hairdryer etc
ROOM B: very 3rd rate in comparison. Poor standard
Very small- less than half the size of Room A with noise of kitchen extractor fan all day/night.
Basic double bed
No wardrobe but a child's old wooden rail unit which didnt take a lady's dress.
Shower, toilet with overhead towel rails, hand basin + mirror all within a one square meter room. Very unsuitable.
No fan. No hairdryer. No hand soap
- Caroline (10/5): Pleasant and convenient. - Well situated, spacious, helpful staff, lovely breakfast Little bit tired and in need of a bit of decoration and tlc but that did not detract from our stay
- Barbara (7/5): -
- Lucinda (5/5): Lovely area - The area was beautiful but the hotel was rather tierd! The room needed a freshen up. I think it had also been found cold as there was a storage heater in there too.
- Mary (8/5): Ideal location - Beautiful views from our room.
- Lynn (10/5): -
- Jill (3/5): Very disappointing. Made a formal complaint and given part refund. Would NOT recommend. - Staff friendly but not efficient In my room, the tv didn't work, curtain was hanging off rail, lights too dim to read by( I like reading in bed).......need I go on!
- ALISON (7/5): Fantastic view, large clean room but hotel in need of some TLC - We booked a river view suite and as expected it had an amazing view over the river. The room itself was very large and had a lovely large bathroom. It clean and the bed was very comfortable.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The outside of the building as you walk up to the reception from the car park is in need of some attention. The paint was peeling of the building, so just made it look a bit run down.
Our room was very large and clean but the furnishings were a very dated. Although the bed linen was clean, the throw over the top was again very dated. It could have looked so much better with some up to date furniture and a more modern throw.
To get to the room, you had to go through quite a few corridors and again they could just to with freshening up with paint and new carpet. Some areas were quite threadbare and stained.
The carpet leading to the breakfast area could do with updating as well.
We would definitely stay again but with some TLC the hotel could look a whole lot better as it is in such a fabulous location.
- Iain (8/5): - dinner in restaurant and breakfast were good
- Christina (1/5): Dirty and disgusting - Nothing Very old! The room my friend stayed in was absolutely disgusting! It was for her 50th birthday and the hotel wouldn’t even help to change her room. It had food up the walls, food on the floor? Curtains hanging off, no lampshade, paint pots and damp outside room. The smell of dirt and damp throughout this hotel is disgusting! What a waste of time and money! Had to wait ages to be served at the bar and there was only 3 of us and the breakfast the next morning was cold! Staff looked dirty and haggered and not professional, watched the waitress pull out tea spoons from her pocket and place with the others. DO NOT STAY HERE
- Harry (7/5): -
- Mitieli (10/5): -
- Carolyn (8/5): - Beautiful bedroom and comfortable bed. Lovely plush towels.
Restaurant meals were superb. Some parts a bit dated & in need of a tidy up.
- Ismael (9/5): Excellent location - Breakfast was superb. n/a
- Anthony (8/5): -
- Hashir (9/5): -
- Pete (9/5): Very enjoyable stay, great food, friendly staff, spacious room. - Food was excellent we dined on night one and had breakfast 2 mornings no complaints whatsoever. Room was very spacious heating - could hear the pipework which was a bit annoying however it was not something we could not handle
- Victoria (4/5): - Very clean, staff very obliging. Good location. Room 20. Dismal decor. No view of river - just a roof & could see into another room. Although it had Freeview there was no signal during for live television. Two wooden hangers & one plastic one hanging on a peculiar rack, reminiscent of Victorian schooldays Awful lighting with one bulb missing. Switches for bedside wall lights too far from the bed. No toilet roll holder. No towel rail or bathroom bin. Not worth £93 per night so checked out before day 3.
- Maureen (9/5): -
- Paula (5/5): -
- GILBERT (10/5): Excellent -
- hollyr635 (6/5): Bang average - Not that cheap but did include breakfast. Despite a Christmas party that night it seemed pretty empty at breakfast. Room was clean and although nicely decorated was quite tired. Carpet and curtains very old and dated. Felt like it was being run down. Staff were quite apathetic. Breakfast was disappointing - very average and very beige. Beautiful location by the Thames and has the potential to be really good just felt like it is in need of a good refurb/cash injection.
- Holly (4/5): -
- June (8/5): Will stay again - Problem with the TV, staff moved us to another room. Very comfortable large bed, great view. Large bathroom. Excellent breakfast and service.
- TheRealQM (2/5): Lack of sleep, poor communication, and disregard for guest comfort - We travelled 200 miles for a one‑night stay, collecting our key around 4pm before visiting family. Returning at 10pm, we bought drinks from the bar, paid immediately, and went to our room. At first the hotel seemed fairly quiet, but as the night progressed noise from the bar, outside, and downstairs grew worse, accompanied by piped Christmas music until 1am. Loud talking, shouting, and laughter continued until 2:30am, leaving us with barely three hours of broken sleep before a full day’s work and travel home. No warning was given of any events when we checked in, yet a large group of drunk guests from one company disrupted the night and treated it as a joke the next morning.
The room itself was nicely presented but poorly located within the building, above the entrance and bar, next to a bridge, so traffic noise and headlights added to the disturbance. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, making rest even more difficult. This was our third stay, and while rooms at the back are quieter, this experience was unacceptable. Attempts to contact the hotel via Facebook Messenger went unread and unanswered. At checkout, staff did not ask about our stay, and we discovered an incorrect bar charge on our bill, though it was promptly removed.
Overall, the lack of sleep, poor communication, and disregard for guest comfort mean we will very likely not be returning.
- Explorer637648 (10/5): Perfect Christmas Party Night with a Lovely Stay - I attended a Christmas party with an overnight stay and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The service was excellent, with all meals served on time. The staff were all lovely and very attentive throughout. The food was delicious—hot, well-cooked, and generous in portion size, which was impressive given they were catering for around 120 people. The meal was perfectly finished with coffee and mince pies.
Afterwards, there was a resident DJ who played a great variety of music. There was a large area for dancing, and the atmosphere was brilliant. Highly recommended.
My river-view room was lovely—clean, inviting, and well presented. The bathroom had a nice bath with a shower and a good selection of toiletries. The king-size bed was very comfortable, and the view of the river was a real highlight.
Also a lovely cooked breakfast, the waitress was again very attentive a lovely friendly personality. Nothing was too much trouble for her.
Overall, a wonderful Christmas party and stay.

- AJ6598 (2/5): I wouldn’t - even for business trip - Room:
- TV not connected
- Generator and smoking area outside room
- Water didn’t got in shower in night time.
- carpet unclean
- bed uncomfortable
- Table in room awful with child’s size chair that was falling to bits
Bar:
- closed at 11, even to residents, shutters pulled down
- ordered malt whisky and told after served there was no ice
- Miserable unfriendly owner ‘Dave’.
Breakfast
- Coffee luke warm
- Sausage tasted off
- Asked for poached eggs and got hard fried
- Katarzyna (10/5): -
- Woolf (7/5): -
- Claire (8/5): Friendly and clean hotel - Room was very clean and quiet, and all of the staff very friendly and helpful. It was a last-minute booking when another booking let me down on arrival, so I was grateful for them fitting me in and being so welcoming! Tv in room didn’t work (I didn’t raise this though so I’m sure it would have been dealt with if I’d asked). I arrived late when it was very dark, and it would’ve been good to have had more lighting in the car park.
- KONSTANTINOS (9/5): -
- Denise (9/5): A lovely stay in a lovely hotel - The hotel location is superb check-in was easy, the room was spacious & the staff were lovely & incredibly helpful. The breakfast was also very tasty. It was everything we had hoped for. The hotel itself & inside our room was slightly too warm! We generally love a warm room, but this was just a bit too warm for us! We're sure it would make a considerable saving for the hotel if they were to turn the thermostat down a couple of degrees.
- Amy (4/5): Much Faded Glory - Lovely location overlooking Shillingford Bridge and tge Thames Roons recently renovated and warm. Very polite waitress at breakfast. Very shabby, run down, dirty carpets in corridors. Bar area very drab. Chose not to eat there as we didn't think there was an operating restaurant. One staff member in scruffy tracksuit bottoms and T shirt served our breakfast.
- Sharleay (10/5): - Lovely setting lovley staff
- Aziz (8/5): Very good stay overall - The staff were very helpful and facilities were just right
- holsssssss (10/5): Lovely home from home hotel and dog friendly - We stayed here on the 29th November for one night. We had such a lovely time and felt so very welcome. Our dog Barnaby loved his stay and was truly spoilt and loved by all staff. We stayed in room 37 and had a lovely river view room. The hotel is dated and could do with a refurb but was a pleasant and clean room. We enjoyed a drink in the bar in the evening and took a walk to the six bells for dinner. All staff here went over and above to make us and our dog welcome and we will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for a lovely stay.
