- tidd (10/5): Carol was very helpful and very lovely to deal with. Hoping to stay there again next summer again - Very beautiful and very clean Nothing
- Armgard (8/5): Lots of space - Near to center , yet calm, beautiful countryside
- Robin (9/5): Lovely location, caring host, comfortable quarters. - Our host provided huge croissants, coffee and cream, and BONUS yogurt parfait in generous quantities for our 2-night stay.
Great space with shelves in bedroom closet for those of us who like to unpack and stow the suitcase.
Location was perfect for our Tanglewood show down the road and for exploring nearby towns. Host helped with directions.
Great A/C in bedroom. Lovely patios on the property. Bathroom towels and rug were worn and frayed.
Sitting room furniture had water stains.
The patio and outdoor furniture for our suite was in need of a power-wash.
- Deborah (9/5): Great - Excellent host.. thank you again!
- Jo (5/5): The location was ideal for our needs, and we truly enjoyed our time in Stockbridge. - The property is centrally located in Stockbridge, offering spacious rooms that were clean. While we appreciated the welcoming atmosphere of the bed and breakfast, our stay did not fully meet our expectations. We were hoping for a private room with a door and a separate bathroom for the parents, which was not the case. Additionally, we found that the space would benefit from some updates, including a larger refrigerator and matching linens to enhance the overall comfort and appearance.
Given that our stay was around a holiday, it would have been helpful to have more information about available food options or local recommendations to make the most of our time. We believe these improvements would greatly enhance the experience for future guests
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheryl (6/5): Pleasant -
- William (1/5): Bad - Would not recommend
- George (2/5): We could never stay here again. - We feel that the site photos are deceptive. The owner is fine but the room we were assigned are really in need of repairs and a fresh up in all areas. The toilet was our deciding point not to stay for our second day. The above speaks for itself. The property owner was fine but appears to be overwhelmed having to care for the grounds and interior of our accommodation.
- Steven (7/5): From our informative, personable host to the exceptionally comfy bed, the stay was a success! - The bed was quite comfortable and I slept very well! TV worked just fine and the room is large with comfortable furniture. Bathroom needs attention…floor, toilet bowl, and shower. And the room needs freshening (aired out more).
- Carolyn (7/5): Good -
- Peter (7/5): Lovely location, Carole a delight. Not a hotel room as expected - Views
Location
Host Sparse so called breakfast
Old and tired
- Struan (5/5): The location was the only thing good about our stay. - location breakfast was inadequate. The first morning was ok. The second morning only 2 croissants were provided, nothing else.
- Elizabth (7/5): A solid choice in terrific area of the Berkshires. - The location and grounds were spectacular. Close to Lenox, Great Barrington, and Tanglewood. The owner was lovely and engaging. Extremely knowledgeable about the area. She was also very attentive. The toilet and shower needs some updating.
- Steve (8/5): Our second stay with Carol! A fine experience, very comfortable! All things - A bit dark!
- Ellen (8/5): Lovely property, not matched by amenities. - The location and the property were excellent. Had to request breakfast the second day, and didn’t get dark roast coffee. Also, there was no hot water in the shower, even though we were told there was.
- Alan (7/5): Good -
- Ira (5/5): I was both disappointed and didn’t even stay in the room I paid $300 for - Close to the center Expensive and misleading- I thought I was in the wrong place being a room in a home, not a cottage or ‘real lodging’
- Janet (4/5): Disappointed - Location was wonderful. Owner was nice and outgoing. Bathroom toiletries plentiful. The yard was beautiful and well kept. It was not clean - dust on furniture, toilet was old, stained and dirty toilet bowl. Chairs in living room were stained. The rooms could use updating.
- Marilou (5/5): Close to everywhere you want to be in the Berkshires, needs a deep clean and furniture updates. - The best aspect of staying at this property was the proximity to Stockbridge and Tanglewood, as well as the outdoor space. Though the furniture and carpeting is dated, the beds were comfortable and it was close to where we wanted to visit. The apartment needs a deep clean as it is a great space and has much potential for a comfortable place to stay with a few choice furniture updates, i.e. sitting chairs.
- George (7/5): Good - Owner was very accommodating when booking issue arose. Place in need of updating.
- Gail (7/5): Welcoming and generous sized unit in a beautiful location. - Beautiful location and the owner was very welcoming and chatty. She also provided helpful advice on where to hike and where to eat, which was excellent given we only had one full day there. The bed was comfortable and the size of the unit was generous. The downside of the beautiful location was that it was a drive to shops and restaurants. The unit was a bit dark and it was strange that although cooking facilities were provided there was no way to wash dishes other than in the bathroom sink and no washing up gear was provided. However we enjoyed our stay and the pre-packaged breakfast provided was very nice.
- Eddie (9/5): Great location and great place to stay. - The room was very VERY spacious with a full wall of windows to enjoy the private view outside. It was one of the coziest places that we stayed in on our trip. The area was beautiful and the "cottages" surrounding were amazing. OH the Hostess was very helpful with local activities and SO fun!
- Jamie (9/5): Quite pleasant but would suggest cleaning. Carpets and upholstery dirty and a musty smell. Size was great. Living space - Area around property was beautiful. I felt very safe. Convenient travel to major attractions. Enjoyed being able to sit outside. Accommodations were pleasing albeit needing cleaning. Host was pleasant and accommodating. When walking to points of interest from the property there were no sidewalks or paths to walk on beside a busy street
- Maury (8/5): Very good -
- James (4/5): Neither my wife nor I would consider a return trip to The Cottage - Good location to tourist attractions though-out area. The owner seemed to be a very nice lady and was helpful with suggestions for places to eat, things to do, etc. The facility was very dark, depressing, and un-inviting. The sliding door entrance would not lock from the inside, leaving you feeling somewhat insecure. The breakfast provided was disappointing, as the pastries were very dry and appeared to have been in the freezer prior to being put out for us. I feel that the owner tries to be accommodative, yet the place needs upgrading and a different meal plan put into place.
- Lee (9/5): Superb - Bagels and cream cheese were good as well as the berries. I asked for vegetable quiche and was asked twice although got a bacon quiche which I did not eat.
- Thomas (5/5): It served our purpose, but was underwhelming - The host is wonderful. Communicated very well. Friendly and courteous. Bed was comfortable. Location is fantastic. I was surprised that our "suite" was actually a converted basement. It was chilly at night and I think the heat was off. There was no sink in the kitchenette area. We were under the impression that breakfast was included. Didn't realize she would make/buy food for us and leave it in our refrigerator, which meant we had to do the meal prep. All furniture and fixtures were dated.
- Anonymous (1/5): I was only there for 5 minutes and the bad smell made me sick - Nothing I did not like anything
- Joseph (1/5): Overpriced, uncomfortable, rude and hostile host, in beautiful countryside. - The area is beautiful. False advertising: there is no wifi (host's "excuse" that it works in her room -- obviously she has no intention to fix it.) No breakfast (assuming you don't consider a bagel put into your room for for the length of your stay, in advance, a breakfast) Bathroom is tiny and filthy.
- Steve (9/5): A very nice place in great location for our needs with a warm hostess offering invaluable advice. - Breakfast was generous and available to us whenever we wanted it.
Our hostess sowed us the secrets of our location and offered excellent restaurant and activities advise.
Her thoughts saved us allot of time and effort.
w will return as often as we can. I would not change a thing or expect more.
- Christine (7/5): Quiet and very convenient location. Pleasant, accommodating host replaced Keurig which was very old. - Location excellent. Bed comfortable. Very quiet with plenty of room. Accommodating host. Breakfast was DIY. Microwave and toaster oven old. Breakfast were bagels, muffins, fruit with yogurt and quiche. DIY and eaten at small table in room.
- Tracy (4/5): The place has potential, needs updating and cleaning - This location is very close to Tanglewood Carpets needed to be vacuumed. There was dirt and leftover coffe grinds in the coffee maker. "Someone" was in our unit while we were out and left the door open. The sliding door did not lock, and the host was pasing from 2-5 in the morning above ouor unit, so we did not sleep much.
- Betty (8/5): The facility fit our needs and the hostess was very kind and helpful. - It was very close to Tanglewood where we were going. It was clean and comfortable It was more like an AirBnB. Which may be okay for others.
- Miklos (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (8/5): Perfect for a quick hop in an out of town. - The quiet setting situated amid the cultural amenities of the surrounding area.
- Scott (9/5): Perfect pet friendly accommodations at a reasonable price and great location. - Location is excellent. Close to town and events. Also enjoyed the spacious accommodations and pet friendly offerings. Private entrance as well.
- Catherine (3/5): Poor - Location
Beds were comfortable The owner was unaware of and therefore unprepared for our booking despite email correspondence a couple of weeks prior. We were told that the room would be inspected and tidied up. Upon our return a few hours later, the bathroom and the floors were still visibly dirty (it seemed as though the carpets and rugs had not been washed or vacuumed in months, the inner and outer toilets had definitely not been cleaned since the last visitors - hair and filth still present). The location was ideal and thankfully we were gone most of the day and only used the cottage as a place to sleep. Unless people do not mind the filth, I would not recommend this place and will not stay there again.
- Nancy (8/5): a wonderful host who we really appreciated. She was thoughtful & helpful. - great views
- 154 (7/5): Beautiful location a mile from the classic town center. Excellent dinner at Once Upon a Table resta. - Mid-century modern house in quiet suburban location with friendly owner. A little dark and tired
- Ramona (9/5): she was kind and could give information about the area and about the best deals. The location was perfect. - it was within walking distance of the Shrine of Divine Mercy. There was plenty of space with a small refrigerator, toaster oven, and microwave. There was cable and Wi-Fi Beautiful views Be sure to tell the owner if you prefer your privacy and do not need her to come in and make your bed. There was a phone ringing at 5:22am the first morning that I stayed. I could hear all of her conversations. I live alone and was not used to this.
- S (5/5): Disappointingly old decor though modern exterior & deeply stained carpeting questioning cleanliness - We liked the closeness to the Naumkeag garden where we attended the Winter lights ~ also close to downtown Stockbridge. We liked that one of the tvs worked fine.. no need to stream or know how to use streaming.. just turn it on and watch :) The owner called to give us directions and was easy to communicate with. The two bedroom space is large. Many of the furnishings are old and very worn out and the wall to wall carpet is unacceptably stained and covered with rugs. One bedroom was chilly ~ the other too hot(77 degrees) The exterior is modern and the interior is decorated with eclectic, very old furnishings and there is a perceptible musty smell downstairs. It was quite expensive for the condition of the space for one night. The window treatment "shades" are broken. I do think reviewers should be honest so other guests can decide based on reading multiple reviews if it is right for them.
- Rosemary+ (8/5): Very good - Comfy quiet and clean, Carol so friendly
- Kenneth (5/5): Passable - way to dark in the unit
- Charles (8/5): Very good -
- Edward (6/5): Pleasant - Location Smelled musty, moldy, just unpleasant. Sheets were old and "pilly", carpeting was filthy and definitely needs replacement, bathroom seriously needs an update.
Owner was friendly...but negatives outweighed the positives here.
- Betty (4/5): It made for a memorable weekend but would never stay again. - The space was large to accommodate four adults. The place wasn’t filthy but not clean either. Mid-century building with fifties yard sale furnishings. Paid for a two bedroom suite, owner demanded $100 (cash or check only) for a “sheet charge” because there were four people. You have to go into a bedroom to use only bath that was clearly a half bath at some point as shower was certainly not to any code and sink in the bedroom.
- Rossella (8/5): unique and singular Berkshires experience - I loved the location, the mid-century vibe and I especially loved Carole, the owner ! all good
- Deirdre (3/5): Overpriced and not comfortable - We loved the location of the property. It is ideally located within walking distance of Stockbridge. The house is in a beautiful setting surrounded by treas. Having a spacious separate suite was very special. The decor needs an upgrade. The carpets, soft furnishings, upholstery are worn, stained and dirty. The hand basin and shower tiles are dirty. The cleaning was substandard.
- Angeloch (8/5): Very good -
- Suzanne (8/5): Modern B&B three miles from Tanglewood - The rented space was a converted basement apartment, bedroom, nice shower bath and living room, private entrance. The owner was exceptionally friendly, helpful with directions to attractions, what to stock the mini fridge with etc. This is a personal preference and not a criticism but the decor was darker, a good surface clean but some cobwebs high in the bathroom corners. I liked the owner and the location was outstanding. I would love to stay again.
- Janis (8/5): Wonderful warm host, spacious property - Carole was a fabulous, welcoming host - above and beyond. The property had everything we needed. A little far from town, not conducive to walking in the evening.
- Genevieve (5/5): Passable -
- Anonymous (1/5): I really think you need to take the property off your list. - nothing it was dusty, moldy, dirty. the property should be investigated I have allergies and had a very difficult time. we even had an enormous spider in our bedroom that we had to kill. the cobwebs we enormous. I don’t think it’s ever been cleaned. we were given old worn towels and extremely old pillows. The whole experience was extremely disappointing
- Peggy (10/5): Lovely time in a beautiful cottage with a lovely host/Berkshire historian - Carol, our host called the day before our arrival to accommodate our breakfast choices! How thoughtful and unassuming!
- Doug (7/5): Good -
- Jeremy (9/5): Great location, peaceful and beautiful setting, lovely innkeeper, comfortable accommodations. - Breakfast was provided for in-room dining, a plus during Covid. Carole, the B&B owner, graciously accommodated my special dietary request. Large, comfortable accommodations with the feeling of being almost outdoors, viewed through a wall of sliding glass doors in the large room in the suite. Lovely outdoor sitting area just beyond the sliders. Suite comes with a small refrigerator, toaster oven, and microwave, as well as dishes and flatware. So if you don't want to eat out for every meal, you can easily bring in take-out and dine in style. The suite could use an interior design update. The carpeting in the suite should be replaced. A few upholstered items need a good cleaning too. The capped flue/stack from a Franklin stove that was removed scattered soot on a table below when the winds blew outside.
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Very accommodating, light faire breakfast just what we were looking for.... Everything was wonderful. Carole was an excellent hostess, her home and grounds we lovely, very private in a beautiful location in the Bershires.
- Joseph-rocque (9/5): Superb -
- Cesar (1/5): Stay away from crazy lady. - Stay away from this property.
I am currently trying to get Booking to help waive the steep cancellation fees.
We booked this way in advance. Then we had second toughts and looked at google reviews. Check for yourself, this is not a host you want to deal with. We asked for a cancellation, but the host denied to waive the fees. So we decided to stay there after all. When we arrived, we were met by a hostile lady who "was not expecting us". It all went downhill quickly. We said we did not feel welcome, and the lady owner started harassing us and arguing with us to the point of abuse in front of our seven year old. It was almost funny had our child not been there. She said goodby by screaming "you must have such a sad life!". Also we have not had a forthcoming answer from Booking, just a bot.
- Barbara (9/5): Superb - If you are looking for a peaceful quiet place a short drive from major attractions, including Stockbridge museums, botanical garden, and downtown, this is a lovely choice for you.
