- katya (4/5): - Not worth the money i paid they say pet friendly when you arrive its another story and hotels .com doesnt help for anything then to pay extra this extra that its always something !!!
- Sara Nallely (10/5): - Muy traquilo cómodo
- Richard (8/5): - Buen lugar bien ubicado.
- Teresa de Jesus (6/5): - Las vol has , sabanas y toallas sucias y dañadas.
Me cobraron 1200.
- Cristina Monserrat (6/5): - Antiguos
No sirven los teléfonos
No cambian las camas ni las toallas
El baño está sucio
- Martha Jazmín (10/5): - Buen servicio
- Jose Antonio (10/5): - Xxx
- Richard (8/5): - THe staf at the reception are great
I had a big problem and they took care of everything
Best Hotel Dowwtown et good fares
- MapleTravels (8/5): Precisely what I wanted! - I wanted to have the experience of an old colonial hotel, so I booked this one. I wasn't disappointed!
The room was vast, clean, decorated in a very simple way, It actually made me feel like I was traveling back in time. What was comfortable in the past isn't necessarily so today, but I enjoyed my stay there.
The air conditioning didn't work, the wifi was extremely slow and didn't reach the room most times. But i wasn't there for that, I wanted to enjoy what the town Manzanillo had to offer.
The hotel is well situated in the colonial part of the city. There isn't much to do around it but there are cafes and restaurants worth trying.
- Jose (2/5): Terrible, just Terrible. - This hotel is old and worn down lokking with cracked floor tiles. The bed sheets were stained, some stains looked like blood. Sliding shower door broken, you had to lift it to open it. Air conditioner barely worked. Couldn't control speed of fan. Had to step over corner of bed to get in and out of bathroom. Closet had no light. Bathroom had one little light. No on off switch inside bathroom found it by the lamp next to bed. Door wouldn't stay shut even when lock fully engaged, door would simply swing open. You had to secure the door with a little piece of metal that slides up into the door frame. Hotel is noisy, could hear banging, alarms and shouting in the lobby even in the middle of the night. Was told restaurant would open at 8am. Went down at 8:30 and still closed. Booked for two nights. One night was enough, I canceled my second night and hotel refused to refund me my second unused night. Absolutely 💯 % would not recommend this hotel.
- Concepcion (2/5): - Guy at check in. Super unfriendly.
Internetbservice never worked..
- 16jamesdoc (8/5): Moreish Manzanillo - Completed in 1942, the Colonial isn't really colonial but a good example of Moorish/Spanish revival. Very nice too! I had a spacious, comfortable room and everything worked fine.
The restaurant downstairs is fine and since there's a shortage of good eateries in town, probably the best option.
Not sure why the last review here was in 2017---maybe travellers don't stay in Manzanillo much. As a city it's no Veracruz but pleasant enough with busy shipping activity.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Muy lindo, precio y calidad.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location is Centro - Great location in Centro.. friendly staff. Bed is ok. Air con is good. WC walls and surfaces need a thorough washing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Agradabke... buena atenciin... li recomiendo ampliamente
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Decent hotel for the money, central location can’t be beat as it’s located a block from the main square
- Annelies (6/5): More dollars than worth, easy for one night. - Found out breakfast was not included which was a shame, put me all the way up top in the hotel, where they were doing construction right against my wall, albeit for just a moment. Floors and counters clearly not super clean, but bed fine. Not a bad area but not much to eat around, and the service at the desk was helpful but not necessarily out of their own accord. They did call me a taxi which was great but that taxi overcharges- as I was in a rush I didn’t bother to haggle. Would stay in a pinch again, but not for 760 pesos.
- Juan (8/5): - It was at the perfect location. The receptionist was not very friendly.
- V6A4B3 (6/5): Choice for Centro - Chose the Colonial for our first visit to Manzanillo as we wanted to be in Centro to explore its Historic Centre touted by travelbymexico.com - did not find it very historic.
The Colonial Hotel tiny lobby is basic. The addition of the elevator detracts from the talavera embellished walls and the lovely stairwell. The building street corner hosts an OXXO store with a high ceiling and nice woodwork on it (same as in the dining room). It was likely the lobby main entrance originally.
Older style hotel lacking some of todays conveniences. Room with a double bed on the third floor was a OK size, the separate bathroom was poorly lighted and the shower never did provide hot water. The free Wi-Fi was a mix of slow & fast. There is no safe, TV with no English channels, air conditioning (it was good but not temperature controllable), a writing desk and one chair. There was two small bottles of water provided but no drink glasses.
We stayed for two nights. On the second day we ate breakfast and dinner in the Hotel dining room Candiles. Good service and pricing. Our sea food dinner choices were excellent. Quiet, convenient and as good as we found for dining in Centro.
Not the hotels problem but across the corner from the hotel is a Telcel outlet that on our first day was blaring the most obnoxious racket at high volume interspersed by one of the staff with an amplified microphone making even more noise. This went on all day. The corner appears to be a local meeting point and some noise carried on until late. If you think it would be a problem, request an inner courtyard room. Our second night was much quieter.
If you wish to stay in Centro, the Colonia is a good option.
- 93woodruff (10/5): Sopa de Maricos - My review centers around this most wonderful soup made with crab, octopus, shrimp, clams & fish. Although the other dishes are probably very good this is the best soup of its kind in Manzanillo. This soup is a meal in itself. Worth the trip into downtown Manzanillo.
- margarett368 (8/5): Old Colonial Charm - I was drawn by the beautiful old colonial architecture of the hotel in what was a disappointing trip to the town of Manzanillo, a drab place totally orientated to budget cruise ships disgorging hundreds of travellers buying loads of cheap trinkets ( made in China...). and sitting around drinking beer and eating ice cream, as there was nothing else to do. Dreadful. Hot, crowded, dirty, nothing to offer except this charming old hotel . We had lunch in the low key restaurant which was busy and to our surprise, was very good. I had red enchiladas which were authentic, my husband had the nachos which he said were prepared correctly. Service was friendly.
- Russell (4/5): Run Down and Run Away! - Sadly, this once beautiful hotel is no longer worth a visit. It is no longer the majestic hotel everyone talks about. The staff were unsmiling and didn't care if I stayed there or not.
The neighborhood was lively, with a variety of restaurants and shops operating out of old buildings. There was no beach and it was near the port where all the container ships come in.
- L3755PRandread (10/5): A must stop to eat their amazing breakfast , and take in a historical building - It's like stepping back in time . Eldest Senioras having a birthday cake and coffee, smiling and patting your arm as they leave . Wood and beam all around and colourful tile welcomes you . It's said it's original , from 1942 , clean and cute . Order the traditional Mexican breakfast , it will not disappoint . The coffee is nutty and fresh baked bread is served on every table . The sconce in the centre atrium area is original I am sure . This is a great way to start your day in Manzanillo .
- Sabah (4/5): Clean but old - Hotel was undergoing construction. Clean but old. Wi-go did not work at all.
- nicolebN6008EF (8/5): A light in a drab town - The highlight of our two days in downtown Manzanillo. Beautiful old Spanish style hotel. Friendly staff, decent food. Loved the old doors and architecture of the building and rooms. Old world feel. My only complaint would be the beds felt very old and uncomfortable.
- MikeLondonSE (8/5): Best building and hotel in town! Characterful. Unique. - We arrived at main Coach station in new port area. Grabbed a taxi to old town for mex$ 70 and arrived at Emperador Hotel (an option) which seemed very closed.
We knew Colonial was nearby so taxi dropped us off (with no hike in price) to this magnificent establishment. The best in the whole town it turned out!
On entering the (now left hand arch) side entrance reception the staff were efficient but spoke little English (this place is for better off Mexicans!). Direct door to OXXO now as they took over most of lobby in corner.
We asked for a room for three and were shown a big room 214 with julietteish balcony overlooking the busy noisy street.
Hot water came slowly as a big hotel, perfectly hot in the end. An abundance of towels and soaps and shampoos. We only stayed one Thursday night so way too much! Multiples of Three of everything so great as a proper three person room.
Custom made headboards and decoration around.
Big room with only a few side lights so dim. Even bathroom was relatively dim as one light. I had problems trying to fix a slipped zip on my extendable trousers for dining in the evening (trying to make an effort as relatively posh for us!).
Walk in cupboard with sufficient hangers. Convenient chunky hooks on the wall.
Looks like hotel/tied restaurant Los Candiles is best automatically so reviewing this evening after dining there!
Night-time proved quieter than expected although earplugs were employed it seemed quiet. AC was very efficient although the colonial room deserved a big fan for effect! Pity none was there as would have been quieter than the hard working AC unit. I did not see the bed sheet itself under the top sheet (so dim!) so slept under topshert only and was very cold at 07:00 so turned it off. Beds are big by UK single standards and firm.
Furniture was solid as were the doors! The architecture was spooky by the AC units littering the corridors, pity as essential it seems in this humid and hot port.
Lots of shops selling tat from China, bought in via the huge stacks of containers in the port nearby bearing Chinese names. Very little 'Hecha en Mexico' sadly nowadays!
The (referred to in previous review) Bank has gone on corner, now a yet another OXXO with reception relegated to main arch on side by fab stairwell. Our corner room 214 and balcony is directly above between the crests (missed photo-op grrrr).
I have added a night-time image of the hotel from the seafront square/malecon (no competing singers just loud competing car systems on the evening).
There is a lack of restaurants close by as the eating establishments only serve locals who like basic Mexican, pizza or ice cream!
We have just found Chantilly which is a proper restaurant )not an ice cream parlour) on the corner of the arcade near bandstand, square green umbrellas. It closes at 5pm!!!! We are having a brunch here now as free 'continental' breakfast was a disappointment (soggy university hall stylee) toast, balls of 'butter' and lots of jam OR fresh fruit with Orange Juice or bottomless coffee). Dining room makes up for it though!!
Chantilly (not listed) has great tasty food! Spicy meat, mole nacos as a Ferrocarril. Beer at 27. Coffee (Americano) was actually strong (compared to hotel restaurant)! So extra expresso to bolster it up was not required! Flying now :-)
Overall hotel was great and the only real Gringo hangout even for thrifty travellers! Lots of character. Restaurant best for a la carte. Breakfast was disappointing as described but we could have paid more for a better one.
Very few tourists so very few up to date reviews. Hope this helps!
- ZimGuy2014 (6/5): Vintage or tired? - Stayed two nights. Well located for centre of Manzanillo but not a tourist destination! There with work. Cheap but fairly basic with tv remote issued on arrival and room checked before you leave. Adjoining Candles restaurant and Oxxo store handy. No hot water on arrival but promptly sorted. Two beds, one soft, one harder. Good aircon which is needed. Some rooms better than others with more light. A bit to basic for our liking feeling tired rather than vintage. Good value and you get what you pay for here.
- gopkrs (8/5): great old hotel - Very nice location downtown. An older hotel that looks great. Friendly staff. It is for being downtown...not on the beach. Reasonable price. Parking. Sunday nights the locals get together on the Zocalo to listen to each other sing.
- richardf600 (8/5): A Hidden Gem In Manzanillo - This hotel is a very unique and located just off the waterfront area on the main street in town. The lobby area is a step back in time. The stairs going up to the rooms have a beautiful stained class window on each floor. There is also a restaurant just to the back of the lobby. You can eat a great meal or you can order a drink and enjoy free wi-fi. Ask the server for the password.
- Schanke (10/5): Super Find - This 80 year old colonial-style hotel boasts high ceilings, wide hallways, tile floors, AC, rooms with balconies, proximity to the zocalo, and good prices. All are true, plus their restaurant is really top notch. Excellent breakfast, Superb lunch. Friendly staff. It is really the only good restaurant in the town. There is one quite good sidewalk restaurant, The Chantilly, which is across the street from the zocalo, but it is not very fancy. Although the town itself has very little to offer, this hotel was great.
- El-Yuca-Ingles (8/5): Fine place to stay downtown - Stayed three nights over new year, and found the hotel to be adequate for our needs. Air conditioning worked well, and the bed was comfortable, although we would have preferred a king size which the hotel does not have.
Housekeeping standards were not the highest - bathroom could have used more attention (hair on the floor, etc).
Bathroom was old, but functional. Furnishings are on the old side, but adequate, and for the price, the hotel represents good value in my opinion. The colonial building is quite beautiful. Location is good, if you want to be in downtown, rather than in the hotel zone on the beach.
- greenc70 (10/5): Awesome Airconditioning - We didn't have a reservation, so got a room meant for six people (instead of four). Still worth the money. It was very clean and although the furnishings looked "old" more than "colonial", everything was well taken care of. Beds were really comfy, but the most important things was the air conditioning. It was HUMID and HOT, but five minutes with the A/C on and it was perfect. Soooo very close to the city center and all the buses going anywhere in Manzanillo. Didn't try the restaurant, but the menu had lots of great food listed and many dishes were American-style. We only went there for showering and sleeping since Manzanillo has way too much to offer to not look around! A wonderful hotel and I would love to go back.
- cesped (6/5): real colonial hotel - We've spent 2 nights in the Colonial at different times and it is a real throw back to a time when hotels were classy places in the city center. It is spotless, well maintained, and has a nice restaurant. It's also handy for a walking tour of the city center, including the market place, lots of nice shops, the port, and the Iguanario, an iguana reserve that is a must see, although not well known. Try and get a room with a patio overlooking the street. Nothing like being in an old colonial hotel with a view of the hustle and bustle of the city. Mexico is so much more than beach resorts. Manzanillo is not one of the great colonial cities but it is a place you might pass through while traveliing around and the Hotel Colonial is a perfect spot for a layover.
- Sidnye (6/5): nice place - The pics need to be updated. A bank has takenover the front part of the resterraunt
still a nice place just not the grand ole place it use to be
- minnee1 (8/5): Charming - We stayed here for one night and found the place a delight. The rooms were large, clean, great bathroom, comfortable bed, and air conditioned. We paid slightly more than normal but found it worth while (400M). Some rooms had a deck looking out onto the streets. We were in the top room, which was a hike up, but a little further from the street noises. Ear-plugs are supplied but we found weren't needed. The reception staff weren't too helpful, but all in all the location, hotel and room where all worth the money. We would stay again!
- Creeping_Death_LA (8/5): City location - The property is located in the old city center next to the cruise port. It is in a perfect location if you want to be in the city but not in the beach hotel zone. Most beach tourists will be in another area of Manzanillo about 20 to 30 minutes away. We really liked the hotel and the room was spacious especially the bathroom.
- xalxaluvr (2/5): this hotel cancelled our reservation without contacting us - This hotel cancelled our reservation because we were "10 minutes late" and by the time we showed up had already given it to some one else. I would understand their point of view except they never informed me that I had to be there by a certain time. Had they given me a copy of their policies or a warning I would take the blame but I stated in my reservation that I would be there "approximately around 5pm" I showed up at 5:10pm and the 3 rooms i reserved were already full... I didn't believe this story, how could they find 3 guests so quickly??? and when I asked to speak to the manager (because the front clerk was unprofessional and rude to us, she gave him the whole story in front of me and then replied... "he says he is busy, you can come back later" .... I couldn't believe the manager would not even show his face! Need I say more?? Most hotels have certain cancelation policies stated ahead of time, they did not.! also most hotels would understand if your plane was delayed? they did not! I am believe in courtesy and treating people with respect, and they did not return the courtesy with which i treated them. there are many other reasonably priced hotels in the area, we ended up staying on the beach in a slightly better quality hotel with FAR GREATER customer service for only $15 more per night! I guess the incident worked out for the best!
- dag144 (4/5): Just the Restaurant -- Not Good - This was our fourth visit to Manzanillo. We were on a ship just for the day. We like the heart of the city rather than going out to see the hotels. This was our first lunch at the Hotel Colonial.. The location is great on the main drag downtown. The restaurant is quite pretty. The music is outstanding!! The drinks are fine. But the food is really not good. My partner had a club sandwich (American), good choice. I had the fish tacos and just left them in the foil in which they were presented. Not great! Looked around at other Gringos, and everyone,it appeared, left the food.
Go for the music. Outstanding. Have a beer, or a hard or soft drink just don't go if you are really hungry.
The restaurant is very clean.
