- John (7/5): - The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The breakfast was excellent . Lovely old building. No hot water from the hot tap. Shower hot/cold control didn't work so only scalding water from the shower. Careful in the room if you're over 5 ft 5 ins. The beams are very low.

Evening meals really good
Staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome nothing
- Tamsin (8/5): - Food for 70th birthday celebration was excellent. They let us check in early after a long drive. Staff very hospitable and attentive Unfortunately our bedroom was unbearably hot, despite turning radiators off. Old building so couldn't open a window which resulted in not a very good sleep. We could pull the glazed portion back but window wouldn't open so couldn't get air into the room to cool it down

- Susan (10/5): - Beautiful room, all the bar and restaurant was decorated for Christmas and looked lovely. Breakfast lots of choice and really good. Staff very helpful and friendly. Did not like the parking at the front of the Hotel as lots of traffic going passed alot of the time. But once we parked at the back of the hotel it was alot better.

- Samantha (7/5): Lovely Building but Over Priced - Beautiful Old Building, with spacious rooms. Breakfast was nice and it was convenient for what we needed. Our Room needed a good hoover, there was a lot of dust and cobwebs. The bathroom could do with some maintenance and a refresh.
Unfortunately the toilet hadn’t been flushed by previous visitors.

- koos (9/5): Perfect - Gezellig ingerichte kamer Niks
- Hang (8/5): It was a delightful experience staying at this lovely boutique hotel housed in a 14th-century building. We enjoyed the c - Friendly staff, nice restaurant, historic charm Squeaky floor, disconnected bathroom
- Illing (10/5): - Excellent on all counts! Rooms, pub, food, service, breakfasts everything! Will be back! Nothing
- Dan (10/5): -
- SMarlor (6/5): Overpriced for the level of luxury received. - The building has great character, the staff are friendly. The dining room /lounge bar and garden terrace were all great. The bathroom & bedroom were way too short in height to be comfortable. I understand it's an original 14th Century building but it should be made clear on the booking page, that you may not be able to stand up in the room or shower, especially for the amount charged. The buffet style part of the breakfast was basic to say the least.
- Anthony (9/5): Very nice, for our overnight stop. - Room very clean, comfy beds, tea & coffee, bottled water, etc. Lovely 13/14th century building. Evening meal was great. All staff were very pleasant and helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble. We had to leave on the Sunday by 7.30am, which was before breakfast, so they offered to make us a breakfast bag of items for us to take with us, which was really nice and appreciated. All in all, a pleasant stay, in a lovely place. Parking a bit restricted, small parking area, but it did look as though you could park on the road too.
- Sammy (10/5): A beautifully furnished establishment - Beautiful.
- Helen (6/5): The staff make the stay worth it they can only work with the tools they are given. - Staff were absolutely fantastic. Helpful, polite and hard working. Breakfast was amazing as was the location. Room was very clean albeit a little shabby. Loved though the fact a number of original and antique fixtures and fittings have been kept. Loved the 4 poster bed. The bathroom really lets the room down and needs a total refurbishment. For £230 for 1 night (a Saturday premium price tag I assume) I really would expect decent bathroom facilities. These are not antique fixtures just very dated and shabby. Towel rail was belting out heat during a heatwave with no way of turning it off as hard wired to the mains which was an issue. This aside I would definitely stay again for all reasons stated except the bathroom of course and definitely not on a premium charge night. Bathroom left a lot to be desired

- Alan (10/5): Very relaxing and friendly hotel with a good location for varied days out galore - An atmospheric, ancient, but very well appointed pub/hotel. Staff all superbly welcoming and friendly.
Dinner menu very varied and an excellent "fish specials list" too. Very smart restaurant on one side of the bar, but same meals in characterful bar too.
Many more "Mind Your Head" notices than most hotels................all part of its history
Well located to visit mid-Kent and into East Sussex It is all really good.
The hotel is on a sharp bend on the road, so some traffic noise.
- anneke (8/5): -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Rod (10/5): Exceptional - Everything _ especially the pleasant and helpful staff & the food Can't think of anything
- Isabel (4/5): Not worth a detour - Old charming house Noisy, small bed, bathroom old, restaurant average.
- Helen (10/5): Hotel with character - Lovely location, comfortable room overlooking countryside. Very good breakfast and friendly attentive staff. Good choice on evening menu. Nothing
- Adele (7/5): Gorgeous historical hotel - Loved the history of the hotel and the staff were very attentive. The low ceiling heights were a challenge. Felt quite claustrophobic in our room especially when husband is 6’4”. Would probably not have stayed if we’d known the challenges he faced with ceiling heights.
- Vivienne (9/5): Superb -
- Sarunas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (9/5): Lovely place for a stay - Beautiful old building with lovely rooms. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Slightly noisy from the road in the morning
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Very grateful for the early breakfast brought to my room
- Margaret (9/5): Atmospheric, comfy and memorable - The ambience, the staff, the food Thought it a little expensive
Need to consider the needs of the elderly especially in the bathrooms eg getting in and out if the deep baths.
The raised bump at the top of the stairs could be pointed out as a potential trip hazard.
- Helen (10/5): Excellent service from when we arrived Staff very friendly would recommend hotel anyone travelling - Excellent breakfast even a good vegetarian selection
- Grace (8/5): We enjoyed the richness of this historic building and the comfort of fresh aired room.. felt real ! - We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this piece of history .. could open the windows to capture the English summer breezes overnight !
Comfy snugly bedding ..we appreciated it for what it was .. friendly helpful staff .. delicious evening meal .. having enjoyed Sissinghurst Castle and gardens during the day … it was a fabulous English summers day and evening …
- Susan (10/5): A perfect place to get away from it all! - A beautiful old property, with good facilities. Lovely location in an area of outstanding beauty.
Good food, excellent cleanliness and exceptional service from the lovely staff.
- Terje (9/5): Lovely place in beautiful Kent - Lovely old guest hoise and great hospitality Squiky floors
- Alicia (10/5): Beautiful room with bathtub and a view onto a quiet meadow, delicious food downstairs. - Friendly, cheerful, helpful staff. My very nicely decorated room, with large soft bed (though stacked with too many pillows and cushions), and a small but good bathroom with bathtub, was something I looked forward to at the end of the day. The hotel's restaurant has a delightful menu, expertly cooked! Not much that could be helped, but the hotel's location - though on the high street of Goudhurst - has limited public transport connections to major attractions and National Trust locations. If you don't have your own car you can find yourself stranded.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (9/5): Great relaxing couple of days. - Breakfast and dinner were great. The shower could have been better and easier to use.
- Patric (9/5): Enjoyable -
- Margaret (8/5): Cosy comfy stay - Great staff, comfortable beds
Great ambience , good food No walk in shower
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb - Excellent breakfast. Good service throughout stay. Lovely setting in village

- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Perfect - Great food and staff Nothing
- Ruth (5/5): Disappointed - Interesting building. Hotel focused on smuggler history so great if you like that type of thing. Staff had a very leisurely approach, when asked to address difficulties such as being unable to lock room, poor sink drainage, & that the landing where the room was, had been left in darkness, staff weren't very proactive to resolve issues.
- Duncan (9/5): Very comfortable and clean. Friendly helpful staff - The atmosphere and quintessential British pub.
- Judy (9/5): Superb - The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent.
- Jonathan (9/5): Fine Place - Pleasant place, friendly and helpful staff. Couldn't get a taxi back from Cranbrook late at night. Some difficulty getting a taxi to Tonbridge when I left, but the staff helped me by supplying a list of taxi firms.
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Leslie (9/5): Superb -
- Green (9/5): Superb - Location, great, the hotel just oozes character so much wood , we had dinner there as well, lovely food, fish and chips lovely portion and pudding , yummy, we went for a walk round the village nice place to walk, people spoke as we walked, always nice.
We had the four poster bed room, a special surprise for my wife, great, our room overlooked the bend in the village, so we'll insulated from noise, couldn't here anything, great bathroom as well.
History board in the hotel was interesting as well
We bought food for next day in the village shop and sandwich shop we helpful as well.
Well kept beer, yes we will be back, thank you Car park a bit tight, but they cannot do anything about that, we coped.
- Lisa (7/5): Quiet peaceful and typically British. Room very comfortable and relaxing - Very quirky and interesting. Immaculately clean and lots to see in the building. Breakfast was lovely and cooked fresh with good choices. Dining and drinking.
£19.50 for a sausage roll and single G&T
£3.50 for draught small glass lemonade.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Great hospitality, excellent food - Warm, characterful, food excellent
- Michael (10/5): Just a lovely place to stay - Location, comfort, food/drink, staff Liked to have a USB port on the plug socket (only cos I forgot my plug adaptor B-)
- Antony (10/5): Wonderful place with friendly staff - Everything about the hotel was great.
The breakfast was fantastic.
The bedroom was lovely and the bed extremely comfortable. There were no failings.
- Dominic (9/5): Historic and welcoming accommodation on the High Weald Landscape Trail. - Friendly and helpful welcome. Immediately set up a tab for us so we could have a few drinks before checking-in proper. Good choice of food and our choices lived up to expectations. Good breakfast included in the price. No complaints at all.
- Zsofia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (8/5): If you are looking for a Kent pub for B&B with fantastic old character & atmosphere, fantastic food with excelle - Beautiful old pub with so much character along with a large open fire - great atmosphere & excellent staff & service! Authenticity of the building kept in beautiful character furnishings set in beautiful Kent surroundings!

- Sally (9/5): Superb -
- Nancy (9/5): Cosy old smugglers inn - Stunning heritage hotel olde world pub
- Tina (10/5): Just Perfect ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - The staff at this hotel were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. We also enjoyed the delicious evening meal, We loved the convenient location close to us. Just a suggestion not a dislike.
We had a shared bathroom which was not an issue there was no sink until you go back to your room to wash hands
Maybe a bottle of hand sanitiser in the shared bathroom. But this did not stop us from having a fantastic time.
- Sophie (10/5): Lovely location, friendly staff, restaurant food was incredible and they made my partner feel special on his birthday wi - The character of the building Loved it all!
- Gill (8/5): Very trick parking - A really super olde worlde pub/hostelry with lots of beams and charm. Breakfast was great, as were the staff The parking is quite tricky. The pub is on a very busy main road with a few difficult to manoeuvre spaces at the front. Even the car park at the rear is a challenge to get to via very narrow lanes - but don't let this put you off going.
- Clare (8/5): Very good - Excellent food. Perfect location for visiting lots of attractions in Kent and Sussex. Staff very friendly and helpful.
