Guest Reviews
- Chris (6/5): Facilities ok. Room was freezing - Room was freezing. It was cold outside and the room just didn't warm up.
Couldn't leave quick enough just to get warm in the car !
- Louise (6/5): - Basic slightly tired property not for more than one or two nights
- Caroline (8/5): - Very friendly and professional communication. Good facilities and easy parking.
- Richard (8/5): - It was a lot better than first impressions. Slept very well and it was quiet.
Bit hard to see the turning at night, trust Google maps and should be ok
- Shaun (2/5): - Room full of large flies , killed approximately 20 , thought I’d got rid of them only to find another 7-8 on the curtains!! Pack up my things and left immediately, sorry couldn’t sleep in that room !!
- Stephen (10/5): Just the ticket - Simple, clean and comfortable and extremely good value.
- Charlotte (4/5): - I booked a room at the Common Farm Motel as I was passing through and needed to arrive late and leave early.
I called up the day before to check that they had my booking and the receptionist told me that they didn't like people arriving after 9pm as it was inconvenient for them. I said I had a long drive and I was hoping to be there before 10pm but it wasn't something I could predict. He actually called me at about half seven as I was driving up to ask where I was - something that has never happened to me.
If you're running something calling itself a Motel, the clue's in the title, you ought to expect that people will want to drive in late and leave early!
When I did get there, it wasn't a Motel as I would recognise it - more a series of converted outhouses. The room I was shown to was roughly the size of a prison cell and probably less clean (I've never been in a prison cell, so I can't really comment). Single bed, low ceiling, I could touch both walls at the same time. It smelt strongly of mould and when I investigated the en suite bathroom, this started to make sense.
The room wasn't absolutely filthy, or I'd have left - but it was probably twenty years since it had been renovated. Imagine the most tired student accommodation in the UK that's been cleaned by someone who really doesn't give a damn about their work any more, There was black mould on the shower fittings and all over the bathroom.
Put it like this, I'm not planning on going back anytime soon.
- Paul (10/5): - Really comfortable and reasonably priced accommodation in rural setting.
- Jane (8/5): - Countryside location, ideal location for our plans
- jenny (8/5): - Beautiful location.
Lovely hosts.
Great room..... But I thought the shower could do with an upgrade or deep clean.
- Kayleen (10/5): - Such a cool little farm motel. The hostess was especially helpful in recommending local dinner options. I would definitely stay there again!
- Daniel (10/5): Accommodation for a trip to Alton Towers - Lovely stay on a weekend trip to Alton Towers. Host was a lovely lady who welcomed us and showed us to our accommodation.
Lovely and clean. Would stay again.
- Graeme (8/5): - Comfortable stay and very friendly hosts
- Robert (2/5): - I could not stay and had to book and pay for another hotel. There was no heating (it was 3 degrees outside), there were dead insects and dirt around the windows. The farm dog repeatedly jumped up at me and was uncontrolled and put mud all over my trousers. Owner charged anyway and refused refund.
- Barry (10/5): Common Farm Motel - Rooms were warm, comfortable and tidy. So nice to have room serviced every day.
- George (10/5): - Good quiet overnight stay.
- Dennis (8/5): - The Common Farm Motel was nice. I only stayed for 1 night, but it was comfortable, clean and I would stay here again.
- John (6/5): Stay at Common Farm - Served a purpose. Pretty basic but wasn't pretending to be otherwise. Not the most comfortable beds but adequate. Owners dog a little over friendly (jumping up)and not particularly responsive when called! Overall no complaints but as said earlier basic and functional. Slight issue with payment as assumed would be taken out automatically but easily resolved.
- Jennifer (10/5): Lovely place - We stayed for one night after a trip to Alton Towers. Host was lovely, showed us to our room and went through all we needed to know. Would of loved to of stayed longer. It was quiet and we had a lovely night sleep. The rooms were clean with ample towels and extra blankets if needed.
- Sophie (2/5): Disappointing & grubby - Unfortunately it was not a good experience for my friend & I. We thought it looked cute on the website but it was very old fashioned & rather grubby - saying that, the beds were clean.
The beds in the family room were impossible to sleep in as they creaked very loudly with every movement so I ended up pulling the mattress onto the floor just to try to sleep a little.
We refused to stay a second night, even though we booked as it wasn’t practical & we were tired. The landlady was apologetic & did not quibble so we paid for just the one night.
We would not stay here again :(
- Craig (6/5): - Room was comfortable enogh but felt like it hadn't been given a good clean for some time - there were a number of cobwebs both in the room and the shower cubicle.
- christopher (10/5): - Very helpful host and beautiful surroundings
- Jason (6/5): Disappointing - Very basic accommodation. Check in fine. Shown to room only to find slug trails across the carpet. Shower gel from previous guest still in the shower. Get what you pay for. Stayed before visiting Alton Towers which is a 39min drive as hotels were still shut. This place was open as its a motel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Basic, clean annd convinient. Good value.
- SimonW (6/5): - Very thin walls and doors meant it was difficult to relax properly here - but everything worked. All in all a perfectly satisfactory stay.
- Nicholas (10/5): Family Stay - Common Farm Motel fitted our needs to an absolute T! The owners were welcoming and explained everything. The accommodation was superb and afforded the wife and I the chance to have a drink and watch the telly whilst not disrupting the kids!
Breakfast was great value, the owners took their time to listen to our days out and plans!
A smashing hidden secret! Along with the Camels and Lamas in the field opposite! We will be back!
- William (2/5): - The bedrooms toilet and shower were filthy even though the cleaner had been in.
Slater's and insects crawling everywhere. Laminate flooring and a carpet covering a cold concrete floor.
The main road was the other side of the bedroom wall and noisy.
Paid cash to the owner who put it in his pocket and left and I had to tell the lady that I was still waiting for my change. I eventually received this but was given excuses.
- Caron (8/5): - Good location. Comfortable room with fridge and microwave. Ensuite shower. Peaceful setting and friendly hosts.
- Colin (10/5): Excellent place - Excellent place
Super friendly and peaceful, just what I want in an evening after work
Thanks Colin
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice little bedrooms in barn conversions, nice parking.
Clean but shower hose to shower had black mould and should be cleaned, kettle had a lot of scale in the bottom and needs descaling.
- Andrew (10/5): -
Hostess very friendly and helpful; good choice at breakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s a lovely, homely B and B made of the old stables on a farm. Very rural and you need a car but the local pub was very friendly if a bit of a walk.
- WILLIAM (10/5): super place - what a lovely place to stay owners cant do enough for you.
- Richard John (8/5): Two night stay whilst fishing at Blithfield. - Comfortable room on the small side but very well equipped with TV microwave fridge, clean and well serviced. The continental breakfast was fine and generous choice of food. A packed lunch was also provided within the breakfast cost of only £5. The owner was most pleasant, friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A pleasing place to stay on a long journey. Knowledgeable staff pointing out local eateries that were good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good choice at breakfast. Very lovely host. Single bed mattress a bit unforgiving.
- Ken (2/5): - In my view a very unacceptable experience.
- Colin (8/5): Fine for business and one night - Lovely lady in charge but getting a little dated especially
Wi fi in my room was difficult but I was hardly there so didn’t have the opportunity to complain.
I would stay there again if I had to as I have friends locally but I normally stay closer to Stafford as I work at the north of the city
- Robin (8/5): My stay - It was fine for my needs clean warm & friendly
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent stay - Excellent service, the owners are very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, quiet and warm.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Common Farm motel - Loved seeing the camels & reindeer next door!
Lovely welcome from our hostess too
- James (8/5): Th - Cute little motel. I booked at quite late notice looking for a single room for as little money as possible. The room was basic but with all necessities (inc. TV, kettle, fridge, WIFI), and a good continental breakfast was provided for an extra fiver. The lady in charge was lovely and keen to help, particularly when serving at breakfast. No bells and whistles here but at the price paid I was extremely pleased.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable farm motel and excellent breakfast. - Enjoyed our night with good local pub meal and wide range of breakfast choices.
- Deborah (10/5): One night stay fab - Arrived quite late but made very welcome after my earlier call to let the owner know out of courtesy
Easy to get in and family room absolutely amazing
Kids room lovely perfect for 11 and 8 year old
Main bedroom big enough for baby cot next to main bed
Didn’t stay for breakfast as needed to leave at 8 am
- James (4/5): - No WiFi room very small tv was tiny
- SA (6/5): Used for trio to Altin Towers - The family room was in a converted farm building on the 1st floor. Access was up a small staircase. It had plenty of room for 4. It was good as it had a separate twin bedroom with the private bathroom off it, a table & chairs and a sitting area.
It came with a kitchenette, sink, fridge toaster, microwave and tea & coffee making and crockery.
A couple of observations the bathroom window did not have a blind so it was not very private. This I am told will be corrected soon as the property will have new windows fitted. Also you can hear the other occupants of neighboring rooms.
It was located on a fairy busy road and you could hear the passing traffic when the windows were open.
There is a limited amount of shops and restaurants nearby but some bigger chain's are around 20 to 30 minutes drive away.
Optional continental breakfast was available at £5 and this included supplies to make a packed lunch.
The hosts were welcoming and friendly.
- eric (10/5): My fishing trip - Really good accommodation lovely area clean and quiet
- Andrew (8/5): Excellent value, comfortable and convenient stay. - I wanted a single room in the area for 2 nights, and the room at the Common Farm Motel suited me perfectly. It was a slightly quirky room in a converted farm outbuilding, quite spacious, The room had a comfortable single bed, small bathroom and shower, TV, comfy chair, and food preparation facilities (microwave, kettle, crockery, cutlery, etc. The wifi was good, parking was easy, and although it's just off a main road, traffic noise was low and I got 2 good nights' sleep. The breakfast, described as "continental", was marvellous: fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, toast, rolls, cheese, meats, coffee, and much more, and I was invited to take some for lunch which I was very glad to do.
The host was very friendly and helped a lot with information about the area. A bit of redecoration would brighten the room up a bit, especially the bathroom, but overall it was very comfortable, convenient, and excellent value for money, I would certainly stay there again.
- Ian (8/5): Convenient location for Cannock Chase - The Common farm motel is a bit like a B&B with all rooms in outbuildings rather than the main home (and breakfast is an optional extra). Rooms are warm and although small had everything necessary including a microwave and kettle (and basic cutlery/crockery for use with the microwave). The shower room was fine, with plenty of hot water at a decent pressure. My only slight criticisms were the mattress, which was rather unforgiving, and the fact that it's very close to the A51, so you can hear traffic passing. (The road's not terribly busy at night.) I also found the broadband a bit patchy, though once I established a connection it was fast enough - it just had a habit of dropping out again.
Don't miss the breakfast, though! It's advertised as a continental breakfast (so no bacon or eggs) with a free make your own packed lunch included. It includes a good range of fresh fruit as well as cereals, juice, yogurt, muffins, etc.
The proprietors are friendly; be aware that as they are not a large motel it's not possible for them to check you in very late at night, but once you have the key you can go in or out of your room at any time (just be careful not to disturb the neighbours, as the doors are a little noisy).
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely quite location - Everything we needed for our night away was provided in a lovely location
