Guest Reviews
- Lackshan (9/5): -
- Nanditha (7/5): - I stayed at Forest Chalet for 1 night in Tissamaharama. The chalet is surrounded by nature, offering a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
Two spacious rooms with attached bathrooms.
Big beds, sofas, and a bath tub in the bathroom.
Hot water available.
There is an elderly, friendly caretaker at the hotel
It’s better to have his contact number, as there’s no way to communicate with the hotel in the evening or at night otherwise
Overall, the chalet is clean, comfortable, and ideal for a short stay. The spacious rooms and natural surroundings make it a pleasant experience, though it’s important to note the limited in-room amenities, communication options, and the rough access road. No in-room tea or coffee facilities; these need to be ordered.
The road to the hotel is a bit muddy and rough, but still accessible by vehicle.
- Sameerana (8/5): - The location was very calm and relaxing. Very well maintained The satellite TV connection was unavailable for the entire duration of the stay despite repeated requests to repair it.
- Thusitha (7/5): Good -
- Hushani (8/5): Very good -
- R (9/5): Superb - Peacefully environment. Check out the time mentioned at 2 pm but they need room 11 am
- Mananage (7/5): Good - The caretaker was not friendly, but otherwise the property was good
- Mj (10/5): One of the best resort I have visited till now. The receptionists were really helpful and friendly. Great staff who knew -
- Wathsala (10/5): Exceptional - nothing
- Anonymous (8/5): Peaceful, well cared for place. - The property caretaker provided good care. Meals were great. Although I have English only and Madullah had no English I was provided with all I needed. Not the responsibility of the the host, but the transport app Pickme failed to provide good information about the location for this property despite having my location accurate.
- Mihiri (5/5): not satified - The caretake was rude and he didn't bother to give us options for breakfast. We had to have what he decided. Also he charged LKR 200 for a plain tea ordered after bill finalization by the host.
- R (9/5): Superb - The hotel is located in a serene and peaceful area. Rooms and surroundings were very clean and well-maintained. The staff were polite and accommodating. The only downside was that the location was a bit tricky to find, and Google Maps didn’t help much.
- Khaled (4/5): Disappointing -
- Hana (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful and clean accommodation in a quiet location. Everything corresponds to the description and photos. The breakfast was tasty and rich. I definitely recommend it to everyone.
- Sajitha (8/5): Very good -
- Chathurini (10/5): Exceptional -
- Perera (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anastasiia (6/5): Our stay in Forest Chalet has started normally but finished disappointed. - Big and spacious room with many facilities but air conditioner didn’t work. There is a big funny gecko in the garden don’t be afraid. With all of your problems you’ll get help by house caretaker. Difficult to find this place in the map especially in the dark time.
Any additional service starting from the cup of bad coffee and continue with safari cost expensive. The price doesn’t match the quality.
1. If you want pay for ticket in Yala Park by card - it’s impossible even if safari organizers- host will tell you the opposite. In the evening we wanted to pay cash in US dollars but we’re informed that there’s no problem by paying card. But in the morning we were taken to ATM where we lost approximately 6000 rupees on commission.
2. We took “luxury private safari jeep” on advice of host and didn’t get binoculars because of what we couldn’t see the leopard seating on the tree bench. Also the jeep driver didn’t want to take us to the elephant place because the road there was bad (so why do we need jeep?)
3. So safari price is extremely high and we got extremely low.
- Sebastian (7/5): Good - Nice place, very cheap price. Very quiet in the night A bit of a mess when we arrived. The owner sounded surprised on the phone about our coming, bathroom was not really clean. I specificaly asked, if there is a mosquito net, I was told, not needed, there are none. When we came in, there were already some in the room. Because of the very high cealing I couldnt reach them, very frustrating. Also the new housesitter speaks no english.
- Sachi1h (9/5): Superb -
- Harshi (8/5): Very good -
- Praveen (9/5): Worth weekend spent with this superb location and facilities - Superb breakfast and care taker really pleasant and helpful always
- PHILIP (6/5): Wrong location, 10km north of Tissa, beautiful gue - All in all, happy to stay here, just be prepared to do a lot of extra work to check-in.
The location is incorrectly indicated on Facebook, TripAdvisor & hotels.com, and is 10km north of Tissa. Easily accessed by public transit if you've got the correct address. Make sure they know you're coming, as they were unaware I had made the reservation.
If you can't find their phone #, try them on Facebook, or worst case scenario, go to to their Tile & Bathroom Shop, next to Sampath Bank...
Don't expect easy strolls to find food, entertainment and sightseeing, rather enjoy the monkeys, cows and peacocks strolling through the property. It's a pretty, small property that's thinly forested with a small watering hole in the back.
Great service staff. One guy is there full time and will prepare your delicious breakfast. The other guy lives there in the evening, and can speak English very well. Directly deal with the owner for arranging breakfast if you're going out on safari, he'll arrange for one on safari.
The room is spacious with a separate lounging area, a lockup cabinet, and large bathroom with rainshower, bathtub. Real wood furnishings, high ceilings, lots of windows, and lots of hot water. Your private terrace is empty, but there is a large communal table around the corner.
The WiFi is a data stick shared with everyone else on the property, you're better off with your own data SIM.
