- Stephanie (8/5): Good escape - The staff and location were great, the breakfast was outstanding. The steam room wasn't hot enough and I found the lid for the hot tub tricky to take off. Dinner options are hit and miss, loved the green curry but the Mexican falafel bowl missed the mark. The shower head in my room wouldn't stay up, kept pointing down to the wall.

I was really looking forward to my stay at Northumberland Heights Wellness Retrear, but unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by a disappointing interactions; which ultimately ruined our vacation. We arrived around 9 p.m. and were surprised to hear about a $70 extra charge for a third person. Initially, the front receptioms contacted Mona the general manager who assured us they would waive this fee. However, as we enterered the breakfast area early the next morning, Mona the general manager approached us and, in a very unprofessional manner, insisted we now have to pay for the $70 fee. Once we explained the situation was resolved BY HER last night, she immediately shifted and then claimed we had to pay the $25 breakfast fee, despite it being listed as $20 for the third person. When we continued to express our disappointment, she falsely accused us of 'pouncing' on her, when in reality, she approached us as soon as we arrived in the breakfast area early morning being extremely confrontational, rude and unprofessional. The inconsistency in their pricing, creating a scene and completely being unprofessional was a horrible experience and really embarrassing. On top of that, the facilities felt a bit run down—some spa areas (had a smell) and rooms clearly need refurbishment. No fridge in room, locks need to be better. The lack of upkeep and the poor handling of the situation left us disappointed. As results, we did not have breakfast or use there facilities and we IMMEDIATELY checked out from the hotel. We would NOT recommend staying at this facility. Take your business elsewhere, somewhere they appreciate their guests!
- Julie (8/5): Delicious food, lovely staff, disappointing facial. - The food was AMAZING!!! Even if you are only going for the food, it is totally worth the visit!! The staff was also so kind and really lovely to deal with! The spa treatment I had was about a 6/10. I had a facial and instead of any arm/hand/foot/leg massage like every other facial I have had, the practitioner simply left the room for the 15 minutes I had the mask on. The facial was "fine" but not excellent, and therefore not worth the price that I paid. The hot tubs were just three regular tubs outside, so we decided not to use them as they were not anything special.

- Karine (9/5): Cozy, charming and I want to come back - The place is beautiful, quiet, the food is good, the internet worked really well, the coffee table available IS THE BEST THING EVER and everything brings peace and I felt so comfortable. I loved! Well, there was a situation where I got yelled at the hall while going to my bedroom right after the breakfast, where the staff from the table told me I should pay for my breakfast. I went to her table and answered that it was included on my reservation (and showed her my booking). Apparently, there is an issue with what booking shows in the system. The situation was solved BUT I’d like to share a suggestion in regards to this: the staff could either check this information carefully on the checkin, checkout OR at the restaurant table through the waiter. Please do not yell at your guests in the hall and/or train new staff on how to manage situations like these (when double check information is needed) in other ways.

- Joanne (8/5): it's a nice quiet stay. simple. could be better, but good. staff are very friendly. - the food was good - dinner 1 entree & breakfast. the price to pay for drinks/app/dessert was reasonable. Room was spacious and bed was comfortable. liked the hot tub being outside in the winter, however slippers are not clearly labeled, and i used my own to go through the salted ground to get to the tub. I found them after when i was drying my hair in the changerooms. i'm assuming since it's off season - a bit harder to find staff when you're looking for them. the bathroom garbage in our room was not emptied from previous guest but couldn't find anyone to tell. the steam room & sauna are gender specific but when my boyfriend went to the men's there was a women in there, and there wasn't an explanation and he had to wait but wasn't told what the situation was. Also you need to turn on the steam room & sauna, and they take forever to warm up, so I ended up only staying 20 mins and leaving because I didn't have the patience.

- christelle (10/5): Serenity in a cosy Spa - The Spa was amazing even though I was there at the coldest most frozen and quiet time they still had everything available to me and the staff made me feel so welcome and at ease. The room was massive and clean and very toasty with great views. I was limited for walks because of the snow and time of year but I can just imagine if it's this nice now how amazing it would be in other seasons Dinner and breakfast was absolutely delicious xx I would definitely come back. Nothing not to like ! Loved it all

- Robin (8/5): Ultimate relaxation getaway. - This is a very relaxing and unpretentious spa destination. It is small and intimate. The staff and service was excellent at all times-warm, friendly, personalized and very responsive to all requests. The spa services were outstanding. Daily yoga, walking trails, steam room, sauna, and hot tubs are included. The value for money is wonderful. It is a fantastic getaway. I would highly recommend.
- Teresa (7/5): The concept is fantastic and the food is amazing, but the cleanliness needs some attention. - The chefs do amazingly! The food was always tasty and appealing. The waitresses did very well. They served the meals with a smile. Mona, the manager was very helpful and tried her best to resolve some issues we had with cleanliness. She was kind enough to move us to another room that was more spacious. The cleanliness in the room and bathroom needed a lot more attention. Hair was found on pillows and bathroom floors. The mirrors, patio doors and windows had not been cleaned in a while. Hand prints and other stains were on the patio doors. Dust and cobwebs were noticed. Dead insects and some small blood stains on the bedsheets. The fridge was leaking water and if we had not noticed it, we could have slipped and fallen. The staff was able to remove the fridge promptly and mop the floor. The dining area was ok.

- Kiri (7/5): A peaceful and cozy stay but definitely nothing luxurious. - Beautiful walking trails. Nice staff. A lot of the facilities were a bit run down. Shower head slightly broken, some tiles in the floor, spa facilities - hot tub water smelled mouldy and so did my body afterwards. Steam room didn’t work. Breakfast was not great. They won’t deliver food to your room even tho it’s 30 secs away. I was happy to go pick up in the dining room myself just a bit of a minor inconvenience to walk there in my pyjamas while everyone else was nicely dressed for dinner lol When I called ahead of time they said there was no yoga for booking.com guests. It seemed like I could join in once there however, but due to a lot of snow it was cancelled. I got the sense though that they don’t organize this to happen as much as the website lets on. You probably need to request it well in advance. I’m not sure if I’ll return again. Maybe in the summertime when I can appreciate the surrounding nature more.

We were warmly welcomed by Mona and every other staff member that we had occasion to meet. Our first lunch in the dining room was prepared and presented well and at this time we were introduced to the chef. We then went to our room which we found to be very spacious and well appointed. My wife and I took advantage of the ayurveda total body massage which proved to be very soothing and unique experience. We spent a total of four days and would certainly recommend this Spa to anyone wishing to have a unique and well-remembered experience in every way. R & D Hamilton

The appetizer -zucchini fritter salad with mint condiment, was delicious. Everyone’s’ entree didn’t disappoint. The dining room is very warm and inviting, with a view of the patio decks and gardens. This is a special location and well worth the 15minute drive from Cobourg. Book your table soon! Jane

- Chelsea (1/5): Terrible. Awful management. Do not stay here. - Nothing. Terrible stay. First room we were put in was dirty and the door handle fell completely off the door. Second room we were moved to the safety latch on the door did not work- this is a safety issue. Staff did not care and would not move us. The emergency lights in the hallways did not function and had no bulbs, another safety issue. Floors, windows, walls were filthy. We had to call to have our linens changed because they were stained. There was a used bandaid by the garbage. Hair in the shower drain. Sink wouldn’t drain, filled up with water every time. The property pretends it is a luxury resort- all of the flowers around the property were dead. The yoga room was so small that we could not all fit, and the mats they had were stained and dirty. We made a reservation for “high tea” and were served Kraft jam, store bought pastries and frozen spring rolls. Who serves spring rolls at light tea? We tried to communicate with staff about these issues and were told there was nothing they could do bc management wasn’t present. They took $10 off our $600 bill. Tried to follow up with management after through Booking.com and they did not reply. Booking reached out to them directly and they finally replied basically saying “thanks for the feedback”. Tried calling and emailing. Was told “we will get back to you” and they never did. Additional emails and messages went unanswered. I have receipts and lots of photos of everything but it would only let me attach 4 here. I plan to do a charge back on my CC. DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Good job. - Beautiful grounds, spacious, comfortable Hot water took forever to get to the space. 15 minutes before able to shower with any comfort. To better represent a property with such accolades and standards we would suggest a good coffee in suite for a better guest experience

The good: - beautiful property - lovely staff - delicious food and drink - hot tub deck - walking trails - yoga - calm, quiet and serene The mid: - therapists are not RMT, both my sister and I felt they weren’t very well trained, our massages were just okay. - There is no access to food or drinks (other than water) except for meal times; this is breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner - the bedrooms were sufficient, but dated — they were very clean however The bad: - coffee in room was instant… a nespresso would be worlds better, even if it was in a common room. There is no way to have a proper coffee other than breakfast/lunch/high tea

The room is really spacious and clean, the curry at dinner is delicious, and it feels so quiet and private. There is very minimal service and facilities, but given the price we can't complain.

However, this will not be for you if you are sensitive to scents or perfumes as the common area of this facility is noticeably scented with traditional incense.

The phones in the room did not work, we had to call the front desk from our cell phone. The wifi was extremely slow did not even use it. Overall was not worth the stay

The property is nice because of its surroundings but it’s shame that they don’t do much enhancements - sauna didn’t work, yoga teacher on vacation - no replacement, steam room not hot enough, decounter in the rest lobby leaking water. Public toilets in the general area - rusty taps and dusted, toilets dirty. For the price not at all worthy. There are better places for spa and treatments. The only thing attractive is the surroundings but the staff don’t know about the walks. Food was great.

The amenities, which as hot tub, sauna and hiking trails on the property, were also nice touches. There seemed to be few staff members and on more than one occasion there was no one available at the front desk (which just sat empty) when I needed something.

The facility had very nice massage chairs, a great sauna room and relaxing jacuzzis. Mona was very sweet and approachable when we spoke to her. The staff is equally as nice and attentive :) Nothing to complain about. Wish we stayed longer

- Shushan (8/5): Nice for a short getaway not far from Toronto - The place was located not too far from Toronto so getting there was easy and not too long of a drive. We didn’t get to use any of the spa facilities unfortunately, but it looked like they were in good condition. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean and spacious. It’s only a 15min drive from Cobourg if you want to explore that little charming town. We didn’t have dinner at the restaurant on site m, but we did have breakfast there which was included with the booking and it was decent. If it hadn’t been included I don’t think I would have been happy to pay $25 for that breakfast. But all in all a pleasant location for a short term stay.

- Louise (4/5): See above - The breakfast was excellent! The coffee was exceptional, too. Our waitress was very nice. We found the property run down, although it was very clean. The grounds were large but the views were not pleasant; there were no flowering bushes or nice flowers. We were not allowed to drink our glass of wine outside. The TV did not work at first and the receptionist had no idea about the system. Later she told us that the satellite was not available in our room so there was a Firestick. There were basically no channels available to us with the Firestick. So, with nowhere to walk, nothing to see outside and no tv, we were not impressed and couldn't wait to leave.

- Kyle (5/5): lot of money, not a lot else - Quiet location, well decorated, scenic It’s unfortunate to not have fridges in every room or that you have to call and ask them to bring in additional equipment to actually watch anything on the tv besides the one singular channel. Mostly the staff was kind and accommodating, but the woman who checked us out at the end was beyond rude and accusatory. As a whole they are not very communicative and whatever positive experience I may have had a sour taste was left in my mouth by that at the end.
- Pierre (7/5): A nice affordable stay for budget conscious travelers who want an alternative to St. Anne's Spa. - The location is very close to the highway and close to St. Anne's Spa. There were enough food choices, the meals were good and arrived quickly. The staff were pleasant. The room was clean. The TV channels were minimal and TVs are outdated. The room was sparse and could have used a few night tables. More shampoo and body wash could be provided. The grounds and facilities could use some TLC. The receptionist was covering reception and the restaurant. More staff would be nice. It appears that the owners are trying to cut costs.
- Laura (8/5): You must dedicate funds to the Wellness Fusion Therapy. Highly recommend! - Set in a peaceful environment, the grounds were the perfect place to rest and rejuvenate. The walking trails were wonderful. Older property. So some wear and tear noticed but it certainly didn’t distract me from feeling peaceful.
- Joan (4/5): Wouldn’t return. - Staff were very nice and location was good. Bed was comfortable. No coffee maker in room. No extras like a fridge, microwave, Kleenex. T.V. Very difficult to use. No elevator to rooms downstairs and took a long time to reach our room.
- Dean (10/5): - If you like quiet and want to relax. This is the place for you. It has hot tubs a steam room and Sauna on site. Also a spa to get whatever you like. The manager was super accommodating when we asked if they had a walk out room and she found one available. It was so great to celebrate our our 20th wedding anniversary.
- Natasha (6/5): - The dinning area and the kitchen staff were great as well as the majority of the servers. I have dietary allergies and intolerances and the chef came out to see me personally on numerous occasions to make sure that I was well taken care of. The hotel and spa is family owned which provided a very special and unique experience for me. Being of Indian decent and surrounded by furniture and artifacts from India provided an experience I have not yet had in Ontario. Unfortunately however, the cleanliness and maintenance of my room, the hallways and other main areas were below my expectations. There were greasy hand prints on the door and patio windows. the remote was sticky and other surfaces were dusty. There was an ongoing leak in the bathroom that damaged the baseboards and between floor tiles. There wasn't regular housekeeping and when I did ask to have those items cleaned in my room, while I was away, they were not. I had to be in the room to ensure that it was cleaned and even had to ask for them to come back to do a thorough job. The spa service that I had was great. The practitioner was knowledgable and professional. The facilities however were not well maintained. After using the hot tub there was a strange smell coming off of my skin. Overall, I feel like there is just not enough, well trained dedicated staff, quality checks and circulation of the building by management to clean and maintain this gorgeous space that has such potential.
