Guest Reviews

- Wilkinson (9/5): Charming country pub - single nights stay - A lovely country pub with plenty of charm.
We stayed for one night as part of a weekend walking trip along the Soutj Downs. A few miles off the South Downs Way it was easy to reach via the old railway route from Exton.
We arrived on a beautiful sunny Friday evening. The pub was bursting at the seams - which created an amazing atmosphere. There were even a few horses on the green, with the riders enjoying a drink.
We had no issues with our room, which was the suite. The bed was comfortable and the room clean and well appointed. My wife and I both slept well that night.
We ate that evening at the pub. We were joined by friends, and had a really nice meal. The qaulity and choice of food was very good.
We had breakfast before leaving the next morning, which was also of a good standard.
Throughout our stay all the staff were freindly and helpful. I can't think of any negatives.
- Billie (10/5): - The customer service was just outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble, thank you for making the evening before my wedding and morning of my wedding just so at ease.
- Toby (9/5): - Friendly Location a Little far off the SDW
- Robert (10/5): Staff were great especially Richard. - Everything quiet great ales, and accommodation Nothing
- Beresford (9/5): Würde wieder dort übernachten. Sehr Empfehlenswert - alles war gut.
- jane (8/5): - Location, food on restaurant, friendly and helpful staff Hmmm, surprised to find our "ensuite" bathroom was actually on the ground floor and the bedroom through 3 doors and up a dogleg staircase meaning nipping to the toilet in the night involved stairs and doors, finding glasses and needing footwear. Plus a likely bang of the head on the slanted ceiling. Not a comfy night sadly.
Oh and the particulars refer to quality and hypoallergenic bedding. Bedding great but the feather cushions on the bed were therefore unexpected!
- Robert (10/5): Food and Alex are fab, food is outstanding - Everything Nothing
- sidikat (9/5): Beautiful - Excellent host
- Nick (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful, very friendly team
- Nick (10/5): - All the team were wonderful, great rooms and very comfortable
- David (9/5): Lots of effort made to ensure an enjoyable experience for customers - The staff were very helpful and welcoming and the majority local customers provide the pub with a lovely atmosphere. It’s very inviting. The menu is decent and the food well cooked plus they have a good range of beers on tap/pump It’s popular!
- Nick (10/5): - This is a wonderful pub , with lovely team , rooms are spotless and comfortable, will always stay here if in the area
- Pugh (10/5): A great relaxing place to stay. - Lovely to be next to the most homely comfortable pub I’ve ever stayed in. Food was excellent and staff couldn’t go enough for us. Room was clean and stylish.

- ruth (8/5): -
- Gerard (8/5): Gezellige plattelandspub met drie kamers in voormalige schuur. Prima pubmaaltijden - Prima Engels ontbijt
- sarah (10/5): - Beautiful village location. Property was spotlessly clean and well designed. Staff where welcoming and friendly. Property was perfect for my requirements so nothing negative to say
- Philip (10/5): - Good quality, locally produced products.
- Robert (10/5): - Brilliant
- Steve (7/5): - Friendly pub with real ale.
Lovely food (evening meal and breakfast) and very friendly staff.
Beautiful village location. Extremely thin walls - stud plasterboard beteen rooms, so can hear everything from adjoining room.
No chair or usable desk.
Small main room and poor bathroom door arrangement, fine for one occupant but not for two people.
- Roberta (7/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): -
- ian (10/5): Lovely short stay - Loved staying in the suite - a property adjacent to the pub. It was clean and well appointed. And we had a lovely Xmas lunch afterwards Well parking is always difficult but that’s something the pub can’t really change
- Mark (10/5): Very comfortable with good food and wine - Character and charm. Friendly welcome and well thought out bedroom.
- Nicholas (10/5): A great traditional Pub and as the room is in a separate building it is also so very quiet - The room was beautiful and very tidy, and the room is in a separate building to the wonderful Pub so very quiet. I will return when in the area. Nothing to dislike a great British pub.
- Steve (9/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- David (9/5): Very good. Comfortable, clean, excellent breakfast and everyone was very helpful. - Exceptionally good service The bed was too large for the room.

- Mark (10/5): Perfect pub and accommodation - The pub was fantastic and the rooms were some of the best we’ve stayed in. Next door to the pub so you don’t hear any noise from it. Nothing
- Kate (10/5): Beyond expectations, cannot wait to come back and stay again. - Wonderful pub food and atmosphere. Staff could not have been more pleasant, helpful and fun. All in a most beautiful English village setting with a beautiful old Church next door and picturesque walks around. Nothing
- Lucy (9/5): Very helpful staff, good night sleep and excellent breakfast - Very nice staff
- Jane (10/5): -
- David (10/5): - Wonderful staff and location in a small Hampshire village. Much local D-Day preparation history. Food was great excellent.

- Dallimore (9/5): Really enjoyable comfortable accommodation - Lovely location, excellent accommodation and really good evening meal and breakfast
- Scott (10/5): - Nice bed and pillows plus quiet surroundings.
- Amy (10/5): Hospitality done properly ! - From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes that instantly set the tone for a truly special stay. The atmosphere throughout was nothing short of magical – a perfect balance of comfort and elegance. After settling in, we spent the evening playing cards by the fire, completely relaxed and at ease, before retreating to a bath that felt like pure luxury. Dinner was a real highlight: beautifully presented, bursting with flavour, and paired with service that was both attentive and genuinely thoughtful. Every detail was taken care of, and the staff simply couldn’t have done more to make our experience unforgettable. This hidden gem is the kind of escape you never want to leave – serene, charming, and absolutely memorable. Leaving
- Marleen (8/5): Charming pub, perfect to escape crowded places - Nice, spacious room with a seperate bedroom. Lovely shower and bath.
The staff was amazing, very friendly and helpful.
Dinner was lovely, cooked breakfast was basic but fine. The patio mentioned in the description was the terrace of the pub. We were expecting a private space to sit outside, so that was a little dissapointing.
The living room had small windows but too high to see through. It made the space feel a bit boxed in. The lights were a little too bright.
There is no closet for clothes in the bedroom or space for your toiletries in the bathroom. A few boards would solve this, as well as a small drawer instead of the vanity table in the bedroom.
The duvet cover was immense compared to the duvet, which made it a bit uncomfortable to sleep under, especially since the bed was quite small.
The glasses and cups were definately not clean, the glasses even had lip stains on them. We received new ones when we brought them to the pub, so that was resolved quickly.
The bathroom is upstairs, so if you often need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, it's good to be aware of this. The light downstairs in the hall goes on automatically though.
All minor inconveniences or small points for improvement, over all our stay was great!
- Linda (10/5): Food, sleep all excellent - Eat great food and sleep well and be happy.
- Karen (9/5): Pretty pub, delicious food and really friendly staff - Location beautiful, lovely village with a church next door. Pub is quaint and very welcoming. Room was converted stable which was nice. Very quiet which was good. All the staff were just amazing, the blonde manager was so helpful and accommodating as was the man who showed us to our room. Excellent customer service. The food was delicious…I could easily have stayed another night. There was nothing really not to like, if I was hyper critical the accommodation was on 2 floors - bedroom upstairs in loft and bathroom downstairs so if you needed the loo in the night you had to come downstairs. Bathroom lovely and good shower. It would not stop us booking again - we had a really lovely stay.
- Stephen (10/5): Great value for money in an atmospheric English pub - Beautiful old English pub with good quality rooms, well appointed, with tea/coffee facilities in the room. This is the second time that we’ve stayed here and both times (a year in between) food in the restaurant has been very good. Staff are exceptionally welcoming. Would highly recommend. Good value. Nothing.
- diane (10/5): 5 star!! - The room was comfortable and clean. Basic, but what we needed. The food and staff were excellent! We ate there all 3 nights. Extremely english. Extremely country. Highly recommended.

- Judith (10/5): Great location, amenities & hospitality - Lovely location & very friendly staff Nothing
- Niamh (8/5): Very Pleasant - The peace and quiet The pub menu, more pasta, salads, slightly healthier options would have been nice, coffee, sugar was hard in there sachets in the room, kettle & cups in room need a descaling and soak!
- Alison (9/5): Enjoyed our stay at the White Lion - friendly staff, comfortable room and great food! - Lovely pub in a peaceful village - warm welcome, friendly staff and excellent food. Will be back next time we're in the area!
- Antony (6/5): Great location but overpriced - Great location, nice comfy bed, great breakfast. Clean & tidy No toiletries by the bath, evening meal overcooked, bibs by the room entrance, overpriced
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gary (10/5): Another hidden gem in the English countryside - White Lion Inn is a bit off the beaten path but well worth the effort to get there. We stayed in one of the rooms in the converted stables which has a downstairs sitting area and a really nice bathroom with the bedroom on the second floor. The bedroom has a peaked ceiling, exposed beams, and a great window in the side for fresh night air. Everything in the rooms was top notch. We also ate in the restaurant which was hopping on a Friday evening. We didn't have reservations but they were able to squeeze us in. The meals were delicious and service was superb. When we asked about being able to get dessert to go right after we finished eating so that we could eat it in a couple hours, they instead wanted to deliver it to our room later that evening. We convinced them that that wasn't necessary, but they did wrap it up with aluminum foil on nice dinnerware and utensils and told us to just leave it in the room and they would collect it in the morning. I should mention the dessert (rhubarb crumb cake with custard sauce) was a 10! This is not a criticism of the WLI but if you show up on a Friday night in the middle of the dinner period and also when the pub is really hopping (they are in separate spaces so the dining room is quiet), you will find that parking might be a little tight.
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerry (9/5): A classic English Pub with rooms in a lovely little village - Very good value, good food and great beer I personally found the mattress a bit too hard and woke up with a stiff back
- Joel (9/5): Comfy rooms in nice peaceful location, friendly staff - Really accommodating staff and comfortable rooms. We requested for some family to join us on an exceptional basis for breakfast on the morning after our stay and they were very helpful and accommodating of us. Beds comfy and rooms clean, very nice and quiet location. Walls a little thin but not too bad. Some slight wear in the room but didn't affect how pleasant the stay was.
- T (10/5): Exceptional - An excellent Inn in a quiet village that is easily accessible from the Meon Valley Trail if you are hiking or cycling. Good beers, excellent food and very friendly staff. Nice beer garden if the weather is good.
- Ruth (7/5): Lovely staff , lovely clean property and great food but sadly for me didn’t get a wink of sleep - Lovely oldie worldie pub and the room was lovely with a great bathroom The heater in the room made a banging sound and the walls were very thin you could hear the person next door flushing the loo and having phone conversations, the room was also a bit chilly and so was the bathroom
- Deborah (9/5): Superb - Location , cleanliness , friendliness No pillow protectors
- Milo (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location and friendly staff. Good food and nice breakfast.
- Steven (9/5): A lovely comfortable stay in a very welcoming atmosphere 😊 -
- Tracy (8/5): Very good - Great location if you want peace and quiet and enjoy a rural walk. Food was great quality and well presented and a reasonable price. Drinks perhaps a little overpriced. The room was very comfortable, although as it was in the attic, it was not so easy to manoeuvre around if you were average or tall in height. A light in the little alcove in the bedroom would make it a perfect place to do hair/ make-up, as it is it's way too dark.
- Elaine (9/5): Great Staff - Superb Food - Wonderful Location and Walks - Great Accommodation ❤️ - Staff were lovely - Food was superb, the Chicken Kiev is do die for, breakfast amazing ❤️- Location, perfect if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of day to day town life - Really lovely walks - The room was a suite, bathroom & lounge area downstairs, double bedroom upstairs was all beautifully fitted out - Thank you very much for a lovely stay - Elaine & Steve 🙂 The room could of been a little better insulated as you could hear the people in the room next door and you could hear conversations/kids/noise when people were sitting outside the pub as the rooms are located next to this, but at the end of the day you are staying at a pub but by no means did this spoil our stay.
Fluffy white bathrobes & slippers would be a nice touch as pretty cold on the feet when you go up and down the stairs as the wooden floors are pretty chilly.
Would we stay again - Definitely ❤️
- Craig (10/5): Enjoyable 1 night stay - Great one night stay after attending a wedding in the area. Well appointed room, in adjoining stable block, with bottled water, comfy bed and great shower. Lovely breakfast. We were also given a courtesy call on the day to check we were still coming as we were at the wedding. Highly recommend.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Katherine (9/5): A lovely place, we’d definitely come and stay again. Thank you - Nice being slightly detached from the pub. Large bathroom with bath and shower. Own lounge area with large TV and a very comfortable bedroom. Lovely little village setting. Extremely friendly staff and amazing food. TV connection a bit interrupted.
- Briton (10/5): Pre cruise overnight stay. - Stayed overnight before starting a cruise.
