Guest Reviews
- Simon (9/5): -
- Nicky (5/5): Well placed for walkers - Brilliant location Weird bathroom with shower that tended to flood the bathroom
- jade (10/5): - Stayed last minute to outwait a storm. The staff were very helpful and kind and didn't mind me leaving super early! Good bike storage and warm and comfy room!
- Henry (7/5): -
- Tony (10/5): Great place to stay - Lovely spacious room; clean and comfortable.
Food was good and staff were really friendly and helpful
- Nicky (5/5): Perfect for walkers looking for a place to lay their heads, but not somewhere to base your holiday - Amazingly well situated for the coast to coast .
Fairly comfortable and clean
Very warm Showers are quite oddly situated in the rooms and generally the toilet area gets wet if showers are used. Single rooms are extremely small
- Angela (10/5): -
- David (7/5): -
- Lola (5/5): We will avoid this place next time. - Food was good. 2 single beds instead of double bed as confirmed. Staff were indifferent and on leaving shouted upstairs that it was time to get out. Most unpleasant.
- Guest (5/5): - A basic B&B and OK for walkers for one night on a long distance trail.
- wilcox mahon (9/5): -
- Lucy (3/5): Disappointing in every respect - Owner was dog friendly and hotel was on the Coast to Coast walking route. Hotel feels like it’s falling apart. Rooms small with nowhere to put luggage, no surfaces to put things or hang clothes or unpack. I didn’t even have a bedside table. Bathroom basic, door didn’t close, shower had no enclosure so loo and sink got wet. Had to order dinner on arrival which was hearty fare. WiFi didn’t reach the bedroom. General feeling that everything was too much effort and overpriced compared to other walkers hotels we’ve stayed in along the route.
- John (9/5): -
- Lauren (5/5): -
- carole anne (6/5): Could make so much more location. - Locations was ideal right on coast to coast relaxed and friendly staff Needs an upgrade very dated.
- Christine (10/5): Excellent base to visit the Yorkshire countryside - The food was excellent, always hot and on time The shower cubicle was to small (can't change that) . Bigger shower drying mat would have been useful. Could have asked for more.
- Richard (10/5): -
- Julie (7/5): - Food excellent, staff friendly. Perfect location for our needs.
- Nigel (10/5): caring - the owner of the property went way be on was was expected i have medical problem and they sort a ambulance to get to the hospital where it was sorted and hospital car back to the property all good
- Edmonds (1/5): Falwty Towers - Not much Overpriced, rude staff, poor facilities
- Teresa (7/5): -
- Sagewood (1/5): Unfortunately, after a long day of walking, the poor reception from the landlady and the disgusting state of our room, w - Not a lot. It’s very old, dirty, unfriendly and pretty run down The landlady’s attitude
The appalling bathroom and the shower that leaked throughout the bedroom and down stairs to the bar
The price
The service
- Bi (5/5): Needs modernising - Good location with parking. The room included a dining / kitchen area that had a sink, which is great when you have kid's. Good breakfast. The room was dirty and dated. Our feet were filthy from walking on the floor. We didn't even use the shower, which was a small cubicle with a curtain across it. The room is a family room, which is a good idea, but it needs modernising or at least cleaning to show its potential.
- Allison (6/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): - The beds were very comfortable, the room was a good size and it was very clean. The food was delicious, and the hosts were brilliant.
A great place to visit, I would recommend it to anyone!
- Arthur (10/5): - Great host and great food, good choice of beer and good menu, room was ready early so good result all round.
- Patrick (6/5): Great for walkers - The location was perfect for the Coast to Coast.
Tony was great and very helpful. Dated rooms.
- julian (9/5): Great 1 night stop over cycling North York Moors / walking C2C - Superb 1 night stay whilst cycling beautiful NY Moors. Secure place for bike, optional packed breakfast/lunch so early getaway next morning possible. Excellent home cooked (by Tony) food eg veg soup with lamb mash veg and loads of gravy then brownie (unincinerated) with ice cream. Comfy single room, quiet, great price. A Happy Place. Disappointed not to see any herds of wildebeest majestically sweeping over the plain.
- Ruth (6/5): - The staff were friendly and the accommodation was very clean I hadn't realised it was actually a pub with accommodation but having said that the staff were very helpful, and both the dinner in the evening and breakfast following day were beautifully cooked
- Margaret (8/5): Accommodation perfectly placed for the C2C walk. Breakfast lady was delightful - Room was freshly decorated and little extras like slippers and sleep masks were a nice touch . Bathroom could have been better.
- Andrew (10/5): - Nice friendly place.
- Andrea (8/5): Lovely staff, service and excellent food but room a little overpriced - Very good location, right on the Coast to Coast Walk we were doing. Staff were very helpful, taking away all our wet gear for drying and bringing out again in good time the next morning. Well organised with meal arrangements. Excellent evening meal (and reasonably priced). Very good breakfast. Do think it is a little overpriced for what you get. This was the most expensive B&B we stayed at. I do understand that where there is little other competition prices can be higher, but the twin room was quite small, no biscuits on hospitality tray, wet room was also small with uneven floor and the mirror and toiletry tray were fixed far too high for me, as a short person, to be able to reach/see into!
- Hugh (7/5): Good -
- David (5/5): Perfect location on the trail, but in need of renovation. - Amazing location, right on the coast to coast trail. Food on the dinner menu wasn't great, and bathroom has mould.
- David (7/5): Good -
- Murray (10/5): Very welcoming, host couldn’t do enough for us. Arrived late and still offered to cook scampi and chips - Property has loads of character. Everything’s a bit dated but clean and comfortable. Hills on the approach 🤣
- Miranda (3/5): Not a good experience - Bed comfortable and clean Damp towels, infestation of mosquitos, unable to use shower because it flooded the floor -inadequate drainage, tired facilities/equipment. Food was greasy and over-cooked, no salad as advertised. And finally no hospitality or warmth from landlady. Very abrupt. Very expensive.
- Eric (3/5): Was okay. For one night but wouldn’t stay again again or recomenf - Proberbly staff and location We did not like the big room we had downstairs leading on to car park. Very noisy people in car park making a noise till half twelve at night. Fan from outside making a noise all night in the bedroom didn’t get to sleep till three o’clock
- Karen (9/5): A great overnight stay while walking the Coast to Coast Trail - Dogs allowed. Lift back up to Blakey Ridge in the morning. Late check in at 6pm was disappointing
- Nigel (10/5): v relaxing - like home atmosphere been several times all good
- Robert (7/5): Good location, friendly welcome, needs updating - Great location for an overnight stay on our walk
Friendly welcome Needs updating
- Clare (6/5): Pleasant -
- Stephen (5/5): Passable -
- Lee (1/5): Bad -
- Simon (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mark (3/5): Slept okay but happy to leave. - Location to the coast to coast trail is good. Beds were fairly comfortable and clean. Bathroom smelled of urine. We were in a downstairs room below a pub that smelled of bug spray. Lots of flys and mosquitos were still in room. Overall, it was like a rundown basement suite someone might try to rent to a student. Way overpriced for what you got. Food was okay at best.
- Lindsey (5/5): Not worth the price charged! - Staff really friendly & welcoming. Great evening meal and the best homemade chips. Basic rooms, extremely hot during the night resulting in a poor nights sleep for all our group. Rooms overpriced and finished to a poor standard. Breakfast was disappointing.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic place to stop for those doing the coast to coast - staff were all very welcoming and friendly.
- Steven (4/5): If you are hiking the C2C, I'd suggest going another couple miles to Egton Bridge to try your luck. - I was hiking the Coast to Coast trail and the hotel was directly on the path. Subsequently, location was quite good. The staff were also quite friendly and were able to accommodate a slightly early check-in. The room was truly tiny and overall a bit dingy. It was obviously an older building (often the case in the UK) but this one was not in the best of shape. It was not uninhabitable or unsafe in any way but it was not a particularly nice experience. I am fairly easy-going when it comes to most things but I felt the price to quality ratio was a bit off in this case. It is also possible I got unlucky with room selection and ended up with the worst of the lot.
- Chris (9/5): Superb - Wonderful staff. Accommodating and very helpful. Felt personally cared for
- Tyler (7/5): Great location and management but room needs updating - It was right on Coast to Coast. Management was extremely accommodating. Room was old and needed refurbishing.
- Joseph (7/5): Good - Comfortable bed
- Stuart (8/5): On the whole a good stay. - Staff were lovely, room spacious and comfortable. TV in the room didn’t work and the breakfast was very limited
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Dianne (10/5): Exceptional - Went out thier way to make us welcome
- Kerrie (8/5): Very good -
- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Gillian (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic Sunday roast very welcoming owners. A great experience. Water not very hot for shower but otherwise great
- Jackie (8/5): Lovely one night stay over. - Friendly owners & staff. Made most welcome.
Group of 3 we had the family room which was comfy & clean.
Great location and delicious food! Nothing.
- Ruth (9/5): Friendly and welcoming traditional country pub - Traditional country pub with exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff. Although some of the decor in the bar was dated, everywhere was clean and tidy.
The bedroom was newly decorated, beds were very comfortable and we even had a little kitchen in our family room. The food was very good, very reasonably priced home made pub grub for dinner and tasty cooked breakfast.
Perfect location for our overnight stop on the C2C walk. Nothing
- Nick (7/5): Comfortable stay, lovely village - Breakfast was good & plenty of it! Location is lovely , great for walking. Good pub grub. Large portions! Bathroom was very small & the fan didn't work
- Isobel (8/5): Very good - Lovely staff, nice quiet area and great family room. There wasn't anything we disliked really. Little but noisy above our room until closing time but didn't spoil our stay
.. The rooms weren't spotless but for.the price it didn't really matter. Thankyou.
- Mark (8/5): Very good - The food and service here is excellent. It's an ideal location for visiting Goathland, Whitby or Saltburn on Sea. There's a river and forest walk just at the end of the road. I'll definitely be back. Decor wasn't the best but the room was very clean, very comfortable, very very warm & very quiet for a good nights sleep.
- Roger (7/5): Good -
- Jones (7/5): Good -
- Paul (6/5): Pleasant -
- Scott (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional - The room was just right for us, a family of 3 and 2 dogs. Very friendly staff, very welcoming. Lovely breakfast, great service. Very clean, location was just right had good night in the pub, friendly locals. We enjoy our stay, thank you. Nothing we didn't like
- Vickie (5/5): Passable -
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional - Rooms were nice and clean and well facilitated. Tony and staff were friendly and it was a great atmosphere.
- Satchell (4/5): Disappointing -
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Carol (5/5): Perfect location, wouldnt return in near future. - Breakfast was ok, little on greasy side. Yvonne and Tony pleasant. Bed comfy and clean. Beautiful quiet location. Room 6 decor was "tired", although carpets and curtains looked new. Bathroom was unpleasant, pipes everywhere, shower leaked, in need of tidy up and decorating, however sink and loo looked clean. I think they are in the process of updating, if this is the case I think rooms should be discounted until work is completed. Previous night we stayed in Whitby, in beautifully decorated clean throughout with large bathroom and shower for only £9 more.
- Dale (7/5): A comfortable stay on the Coast to Coast! - We were doing the Coast to Coast walk and got here early. Luckily were allowed to check in as we were exhausted! The room was a good size and looked as if it had recently been updated. The beds were comfortable, we were able to adjust the temperature n the room, the shower worked well, and there were many options for food (dinner and breakfast). And although we stayed there on a Friday night, which is always a concern when above a pub, the room was quiet and we slept very well. Although we were allowed to check in early (thanks Tony!), it would be great if guests could check in upon arrival or be allowed to hang out in the pub as there is no other indoor place in town to wait.
- Robin (9/5): Rustic charm acting as an oasis for hikers - Traditional pub, with decent food and a hearty breakfast. Great host
- Michael (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kimberly (4/5): Disappointing -
- Mark (10/5): Great location on C2C, restaurant on premises open lunch and dinner - Right on the C2C. Got there early
and they were kind enough to let me in my room. Restaurant/pub open for lunch and all afternoon
- Susan (7/5): Good -
- Richard (8/5): Good place to stay landlord and landlady friendly good food and beer would recommend it - Location was good for are group lockup for motorcycles/ bikes Nothing
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Anthony (9/5): Loved it! - The atmosphere and the staff. The bathroom could have done with a little upgrade!
- Paul (8/5): Very friendly landlord and was made to fell very welcome. - Nice location, the landlord kindly made me a sandwich even though the kitchen for the afternoon wasnt open.
- John (7/5): Good -
- Amanda (7/5): Overall it was a good place to stay. Very relaxing. - Very welcoming, food lovely, very relaxing, slept well in nice clean bed. The owners and guest were all very nice. The place has some lovely views. Cob webs in the room, could hear the people talking in next room, so wasn’t very private as im sure they could hear us talking too. Too far from Whitby centre.
- Michael (9/5): Friendly staff, very welcoming . - Excellent, good food with fast service All was fine
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Nigel (10/5): relaxing or something like that would go back again - very friendly very good breakfast and evening meals were spot on plenty to eat good v for money all good
- Rob (7/5): Great welcome from friendly Landlord set-up a lovely stopover - Made very welcome by the Landlord who even organised for my bike to be garaged. We enjoyed the bar and the food was also good. A table for our party of six was perfect and well serviced by the staff. We missed the breakfast selection on the dressing table, our fault so opted for cereals and toast which was fine.
- Martin (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional - Host were great ....they gave us a key to a shed to lock up our motorcycles overnight .Breakfast was hearty and rooms clean and tidy Nothing I can think off
- Susan (10/5): nice place nice people lovely food - the people were very friendly the rooms was very clean and comfy and really warm and the food was excellent. thank you for a pleasant stay there was nothing not to like
- Damien (6/5): Pleasant -
- Alison (6/5): Pleasant - The room was quite expensive for the standard of single room provided. It could do with an update. There was a red light all night from smoke alarm which was reflected all over the ceiling and a similar green one in the bathroom- this was rather intrusive.
- Yun (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (8/5): Couple of days riding on the moors. Great location - Clean and tidy good food and a lock up for my motorcycle Everything was good no dislikes
- Nicholas (7/5): Nice country side pub - This is a nice country side pub with parking at the rear. We enjoyed the traditional dinner - not fancy, but tasty. The owners are very nice and eager to please as were the staff. Cooked breakfasts were only availble from 08.00 - we would have prefered this to have been earlier...
- Teresa (5/5): Passable -
- Jane (10/5): Lovely place & very friendly - The staff were lovely & couldn't do enough for me. Because I didn't want breakfast they provided me with a packed lunch. This is a great service to provide. Wish more places would do this Nothing I didn't like
