Guest Reviews
- John (8/5): Enjoyable stay. - Enjoyable stay.
- Tim (8/5): Nice place to stay. - Overall a pleasant stay. Staff was very friendly and the room was comfortable and nicely outfitted. Breakfast choices were limited, but the quality was good. Parking was easy and located in an easily walkable location about 1/2 hour from the castle. We will be returning for another stay in a few weeks as there is more we want to see in the city.
- Jill (10/5): The Plough - Welcoming bar. Excellent food. Comfortable bedroom. Stylish bathroom. Great few days in York
- Susan (10/5): Lovely, friendly inn, walkable to the city centre - The owner welcomed us, even when arriving late, and we were personally shown to our room. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet, with a recently renovated bathroom (it looked liked). We asked in advance if we could have a put-up campbed for an additional guest and the room was still big enough for this. Breakfast in the room was scrummy with hot and cold options. And the restaurant downstairs does great food, but is quiet that you're not disturbed upstairs. Lots of parking spaces out the back, and the area feels safe and secure. About a 20/30 minute walk to the centre of town depending where you go.
All in all a lovely stay, and would definitely go back.
- wayne (10/5): - Great hotel with brilliant staff and good food with very large portions
- David (8/5): Perfect stay apart from one thing ..... - Excellent hotel, lovely staff, superb food & drink, ideal position for york centre, bus stop very near hotel. The only problem was room 2 was far too warm for sleeping, if you open the window it's too noisy, if the turn on the fan or air con unit it's too noisy, can't win but overall very good stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location, fabulous place, food and service. - Fabulous place and service. The food was fantastic but beware of the huge portions (and we love our food) The room was spacious and traditionally decorated to suit the building. Would definitely stay again. Loved Tom the cat and of course the bears :-)
- Carol (6/5): Great rooms, food is down to luck - Bedrooms were beautiful and comfortable with everything needed in both bedroom and bathroom. Very clean. Evening meals were very good, great value and great choice.
But don't expect a great breakfast............if at all! First morning the chef was late and we were unable to have full breakfast due to time restraints. We specifically asked for the second morning to have breakfast at 8am when they claim to start breakfast as we had a taxi booked early morning. The breakfast room was not unlocked until 8.10am, no staff, and once you stepped over the cat litter tray in the middle of the room, there was no food or drink to be had. However at 8.20am the landlady arrived and apologised.....we finally got orange juice, two bowls of unwanted/unordered porridge and two doorstep wedges of white toast unwanted and unordered......but no cooked breakfast despite paying £150 each night for B&B! As compensation we were offered a full refund for the second night so we settled for that. But as stated previously the evening meal was great........although it would have been nice to have the sundried tomatoes on the Feta Cheese and Sundried Tomato salad........hey ho!
- Paul (10/5): - Excellent food. Friendly staff. Relaxing atmosphere, would highly recommend. Will definitely be back.
- joanne (10/5): Excellent hotel. Boutique, unique rooms. Fantastic - Warm, welcoming. Clean, amazing rooms. Rooms are better than any top class hotel I've stayed in. Pub was lovely and inviting with great food selection and quality.
- J C (8/5): - Really wonderful room - The only downside was a bit of road noise outside.
