Paula (8/5): - The thing that stood out the most to me was the staff on duty at the desk when I checked in. She was talking with a difficult customer on the phone and handled it beautifully. Then she had a very good sense of humor, after disconnecting from the call, with the customers in front of her waiting to check in. And there was a line waiting.

Verified traveler (2/5): - I made a reservation online, but was told at check-in that rooms were overbooked. I would have to wait while the staff cleaned up one the rooms if I wanted to stay. It was late at night, so I asked for a refund instead. The staff told me she would call the site I made the reservation through for a refund, and left my phone number to be contaced in case something came up. I patiently waited for the refund, but almost 2 weeks later, I had not seen the refund. I called back Candlewood Suites to inquire about it, and was told I needed call back when another staff came in later that day that could access third party booking sites. I called back later, but to my disappointment, was told that I would have to call the site myself. It was upsetting to hear that nothing had been done by the hotel staff and I was also not contacted by them that I would need to make the call myself. My experience with the hotel and staff were terrible and I have never encountered anything like this in all of my hotel stays. First, I was told no rooms were available, then I was told different things by different staff about getting my refund. The ways that things were handled were unorganized, unprofessional, and nothing that someone should have experienced. I would never book a stay here again and would not recommend to anyone else.

shadowkeeper45 (2/5): Very disappointed in this hotel, saying my room was dirty was an understatement. - What a difference a year makes when you stay at the same hotel, and this was not in a good way. A stay a year or so earlier was much better than this stay and probably the last. I will likely drive further if this is the only place available when I am in Bemidji. My room was filthy, the floor was not swept, dirty used utensils on the desk, nasty dishes in the dishwasher, counter and desk top not wiped down. Toe nails on floor, Had to clean room myself. Last year when I stayed here is was tip top.

Erin (8/5): - This was a great place to stay for an extended stay in Bemidji. I didn’t want to eat all my meals out, so I specifically chose this property for the kitchen. You’re never going to get a gourmet kitchen in a hotel, but it was more than adequate. However, if people are going to be cooking in their rooms, the hotel should furnish a couple of other cleaning supplies, specifically a broom. Also, trash service would be appreciated. I understand as an extended stay place, you don’t provide daily housekeeping, but trash service should be a bare minimum. Overall it was a great property. The bathroom was large, the bed comfortable, and the amenities of the property were well maintained.
Pabs53 (2/5): Hotel is changing rates after quoting price - Management quoted a price on a room then charged a different amount. We cancelled a future stay and they refused the refund. We booked verbally directly at the hotel and the management is using our information and credit card to book the reservation with a third party so cancellation is almost impossible

Dwilkie77 (2/5): Terrible Manager - Arrived at the hotel to check in and their system was down due to a cable issue. Receptionist stated I could not check in nor change credit cards as the card on my IHG account was used rather being able to change cards at the hotel. Then called IHG customer relations who contacted hotel confirmed their system was down and gave me a case #.Assured me that as it was not my fault they would not charge me a cancellation fee. I noticed full reservation was still on my IHG account and called local hotel. They stated their manager stated no to a refund as others were allowed into their rooms. I then went to the hotel after IHG contacted them again today. I gave the local manager my personal credit card and he was the RUDEST manager I have ever met. He ended up refunding the charges on that other work card thank God but was angry with me for contacting IHG!

There is a nice grocery store nearby where we pickup up a few items to prepare our meals. We will definitely come again.

emilybS1391TL (2/5): Unacceptable treatment - Dear IHG Hotel Corporation, I am writing to express my profound disappointment and outrage regarding the treatment I received today at your Candlewood Suites location in Bemidji, Minnesota. As a loyal member of the IHG family and a frequent traveler, I never anticipated such a distressing experience, especially during a time of personal crisis. Today, my mother underwent surgery in Bemidji, and emotionally exhausted, I reached out to Candlewood Suites for an early check-in. Kari at the front desk, displaying kindness and empathy, offered to assist me despite the early hour. However, upon arrival, I was confronted with an appalling situation orchestrated by your manager, Ryan. Despite booking through the IHG travel agent portal with a valid travel agent rate, I was informed by Ryan that the rate would not be honored. His demeanor was hostile and dismissive, going as far as accusing me of knowingly exploiting an outdated rate from 2018. When I attempted to clarify the situation, Ryan's behavior escalated, mocking me and making derogatory remarks about my profession and personal circumstances. Ryan's conduct was not only unprofessional but deeply distressing. As a single female traveler, I felt utterly unsafe and vulnerable in his presence. His disregard for customer service and blatant disrespect towards me and his own staff, particularly Kari, is unacceptable by any standard. Feeling so unsafe that I had no choice but to leave, I sought accommodation elsewhere. This decision was not taken lightly but was necessary for my well-being and peace of mind. I left the premises in tears, shaken by the encounter, which is an unprecedented response for me. As the owner of a successful travel agency, I understand the importance of customer satisfaction and professional conduct. Ryan's behavior falls far short of these expectations and warrants immediate action. I implore you to thoroughly investigate this incident and take appropriate disciplinary measures against Ryan. No guest should ever be subjected to such mistreatment, especially during moments of personal vulnerability. Furthermore, I intend to share my experience on various social media platforms to ensure that others are aware of the appalling treatment I endured. Neva (10/5): - In Bemidji for a wrestling tournament. Appeared our room was upgraded! Very nice place to stay close to Sanford Center. Worth the 2 minute drive!
Verified traveler (6/5): Basic, no-frills so-so stay - This is a basic, no-frills stay. Rooms have kitchenettes so you can bring in and prepare food, but there is no restaurant or continental breakfast. There are no amenities. All that is fine for a quick overnight stay for business, but my room smelled like smoke even though it was a non-smoking hotel. It was fine for a low-budget no frills stay, but I will probably choose another place next time I am in Bemidji for work.

larryp940 (6/5): Clean and Quiet, But Fox News in Lobby Was Disturbing - The hotel was quite, clean, and comfortable. I was not happy when I saw Fox News on the lobby television when we were leaving. It may be a stereotype, but I worry that people who watch Fox hate people like me. Public spaces should have more neutral programming.

Verified traveler (6/5): Double check your reservation - The staff was so friendly and extra patient and helpful when problem solving a confirmation number issue directly with Hotels.com as they never received the correct information from them. They helped me navigate for well over an hour directly with an agent from Hotels.com to rebuild a new reservation and saved me from having to find new last minute accommodations. I missed one of the events I was arriving in town for but ultimately happy with the comfort of my hotel. The booking process and extended problem solving with Hotels.com, not too happy with.

schiltgen (10/5): Great, comfort stay - Breanna was amazing at check in, kind and accommodating. The hotel itself had great amenities (a grill, store, in-room cooking and full fridge). The beds were so comfortable. Right next to trails and grocery store. We loved our stay. We would highly recommend.

Craig (8/5): - Room 217 has an issue with the circuit breaker kept flipping off in the bathroom and the safe needs the batteries replaced. Hopefully management reads this as the front desk person could have cared less about it and never wrote it down when I mentioned it to her. We stayed 2 more nights and nothing was ever done. The plug does work for about 5 minutes after resetting so not a big deal yet. Otherwise the rooms are in nice shape and you can walk to a grocery store.

Andrea (8/5): Cleanliness of room - We’ve stayed here before and that’s why we chose this location again. Everything was good except for the cleanliness of the bathtub and bathroom area (the tub had a ton of hair all over the bottom and you can tell the sink area wasn’t cleaned properly) also the refrigerator was dirty. I had brought Clorox wipes and a disinfecting spray with us due to my children having some medical conditions so I cleaned the room when we checked in myself. Also, one of the towels my daughter went to use after showering was blood stained so that was pretty disgusting. Other than these issues our stay of 9 days here was good.
Sharon (8/5): - We were on the second floor. A guest above us on the third floor could be easier heard walking around, and for a long period of time. It was very loud.
Lori (10/5): - I called to tell the clerk I would be a bit later than 6:00 and she said, "no problem." Later I checked in and she greeted me with a smile and we had a nice conversation. This morning I checked out and she was still pleasant considering she worked until midnight and was back at work this morning when I checked out about 8:30. Will stay here again as it is easy to get to and from my relatives.

Buckminster_Fievre (2/5): One of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had, anywhere in the world - This was our third night on the road of a 21-day road trip across the Dakotas to Montana and back. But after staying the night in this dung heap, we were ready to turn around an go back home. The parking lot and indoor common areas were filthy. The room was slightly better. The room decor was 80s goth, and especially the super-dark kitchenette cabinets. The A/C unit kept coming on no matter how high we set it. On the one up side, the lady at the front desk when we checked in seemed nice. And I don't think I've ever used the words "too much shower water pressure" in a hotel room before. We had booked a month before our travel, but this was the highest rated hotel available for our night in Bemidji. But it's now clear why they still had rooms. I just want to know who all the eejits are who've given this place a 4/5 star rating! Even though we booked early, we paid $158 all-in for this miserable experience. If we hadn't guaranteed the room with a credit card, and if we hadn't been too tired to fight about it, we would have gone right back downstairs and checked back out. Sure, this is the brave new post-Covid world we now live and travel in, with much higher prices and far fewer lodging services. But this hot mess was ridiculous to the extreme. As it is, the most we can do now is to never ever stay in another Candlewood or IHG property for as long as we both live.
Megan (10/5): - We love staying here every year for the RMEF Banquet in Bemidji. It's close to the venue and a beautiful hotel with clean rooms. We always wish we could stay longer and enjoy them more!

Roxanne (6/5): Don’t forget to clean the coffee pot! - The stay was good, check in was awesome, however, when checking out the coffee pot, it had a used filter in it and the pot wasn’t clean…especially when I wanted coffee!! Ugh, no creamer..
Stephen (8/5): - Clean rooms, quiet and great beds. Grocery store nearby to buy food for meals to prepare in room (with full kitchen). Main problem was knowing how to drive to property. If coming from the south there was no obvious turn-in.

Brenda (8/5): Great place to atay - Very nice room. Wish they had USB ports for phone charging. I didn’t have a brick with me so I wasn’t able to charge my phone. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Staff was courteous and friendly.
Leslie (4/5): Dirty hotel - The room was dirty- bottle caps under the bed empty bottle of alcohol in a drawer that my 3 year old found - broken remotes - hair in bathtub; my children slept on the pull out couch and both ended up with a rashes so we left Very early and cancelled the rest of our plans. Staff however were polite and helpful.
