Guest Reviews
- Martin (10/5): - Perfect find, fed up with National Hotels. Great food. Very friendly staff.
- Linda (8/5): - The bedrooms are very comfortable. The bed very nice. A shelf in the bathroom would be useful. I would prefer different towels as I expressed while I was there. The breakfast room is charming and very nice to use. We also had a nice cooked breakfast. The cooking was very good first night not so good subsequent nights. Because I can't eat certain things my choice is limited. An expanded menu of tried and tested dishes might be better instead of daily specials that are not thought through. The staff were lovely and very accommodating.
- Caroline (10/5): - Great stay, friendly service and comfy bed. Food and drink in restaurant was good and free continental breakfast in shared kitchen was really nice - thank you
- Alan (10/5): - The staff were more than welcoming and i would not hesitate to stay here again.
- Ian (10/5): - Excellent value.
- Jonathan (8/5): Reasonable priced great stay near Cambridge - Great little place to stay, with a shared kitchen including a double doored balcony.
Very reasonable price per night too.
The breakfast is "self service continental", using the food that is in the kitchen.
There is no Aircon, and it was the hottest day of the year so far.
There are 3 rooms in total. I was in the front one near to the road. There was quite a lot of road noise when I arrived, especially with the windows open, but it was not anywhere as noisy as I was expecting at night.
The pub downstairs is a gastro pub, with a decent if slightly eccentric (imho) menu, and a decent selection of drinks.
- Clare (10/5): - Lovely stay
- Peter (8/5): - The whole checkin experience was excellent from the owners of this great pub/restaurant/guesthouse despite them not having a clue that i was staying due to Expedia not informing them of my arrival. However they worked around this, and made me feel welcome and even upgraded me to a suite, I did have to pay direct, but assured a refund if the Expedia payment is also taken
- Steven (10/5): Great hotel. - Great hotel above the pub. Food is excellent. Rooms are comfortable. Breakfast is self service continental in a comunal kitchen. Staff are really helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A stay with a difference - Would stay again - good value and a delightful set up with your room and bathroom and seperate kitchen facilites - very well thought through
- Hilary (8/5): - Rather noisy road
- Joel (10/5): - It was above a pub but no noise and very clean roonm, nice kitchen
- Cyrus (8/5): A very pleasant stay - Upon an early arrive I was politely greeted at the bar, and told that they would check to see if my room was ready, which it was. I was booked in for one night, on a friday, in mid July +28°C. I had the front room by the main road and had to keep the windows open and the two supplied fans switch on all night, which others may find noisy but I slept pretty well. The place was very clean but a bit cramped for a twin room with an en-suite shower room with very good water pressure.
I ate in the restaurant and the food was very good. The beer garden is very stylish and a huge suntrap, Shades are provided.
- FRANCES (6/5): Willingham stay - I picked the Porterhouse due to its location for work the next day. Check in was fine and to have a little kitchen on hand was a lovely touch and help yourself to what you might like if you wanted to use it (I only used the kettle to make a drink) The wifi was not working at all during my stay which was really annoying as I needed it for work and the french doors in the kitchen kept blowing open and the heating would not come on so it was cold. It is right on the side of the road by traffic lights so for me personally the road noise was too much and the lack of internet and being cold meant I didn't enjoy my stay there as much as I could have. The place is clean, the kitchen great and there is pub food which I didn't try, and if you are used to road noise it could be great for others, just not right for me I'm afraid.
- Clive (10/5): Porterhouse Stay - All the staff were really friendly and helpful, especially Chloe L, and Rosie in the Tee Pee restaurant. We found the room spotless and comfortable, and enjoyed the continental breakfast set-up.
- Tom (8/5): - Great studio room well equipped with more than enough for breakfast
- Richard (6/5): Handy place for Cambridge. - A nice pub/restaurant with on site parking. Helpful staff once we got checked in. The room was clean and well kitted out. I loved the self prepare breakfast arrangement. There was a kitchen with m/wave, toaster kettle, fridge etcetera. Just the job for a breakfast where I could choose when and where I wanted my breakfast. A tiny bit disappointed that my call regarding room availability time was not returned but a small blip in a great stay.
- Nigel (10/5): - Great food and very comfy bed
Parking could get bit busy at times
- Lee (10/5): A lovely spot to stay - I have stayed at the Portahouse a few times and I am glad I do, very nice place and the staff are friendly and very close to where I work when in the area.
- NICHOLAS (10/5): Fist time stay. - Wow what a lovely place to stay, I was a little concerned when I first arrived to check in as the bar area had a few rowdy patrons, however they left relatively early and there was no noise following this. The room was nice, well decorated and comfy bed, would have liked thicker pillows, however this did not affect my sleep. The Kitchen was always stocked with nice breakfast essentials and allowed an away time from the bedroom. Overall a very nice place to stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Everything was excellent apart from the fact there was no heating on at all and in the night it went below zero.
I mentioned this to the staff and they said they would change it.
I could not watch TV or sit for breakfast it was too cold and miserable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Delightful pub. Didn't realise the rooms were up rather narrow stairs. Otherwise, the stay was fine.
- Louise (10/5): - Excellent facilities, very clean and OK food downstairs.
Highly recommended
- Melanie (10/5): Porterhouse - Great value for money, nice breakfast, quiet, had lovely evening meal. All good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - great Kitchen area for breakfast, great having the coffee bags (a coffee plunger would be better), very tasty food in restaurant, warm welcome on arrival.
- Michael (10/5): Excellent B&B - Visiting for an overnight stay. The studio was roomy, with sitting room, kitchen and bathroom. Pub downstairs was very quaint. Enjoyed the local craft beer festival and meeting everyone!
- Rheanne (8/5): - Lovely place, beautifully kept and well stocked. Very friendly helpful staff. Delicious food. Excellent WiFi connection. The only downside for us was the location: as it was a hot night I had left a window open overnight and we were woken very early by traffic. It is possible that, if we had used the fan provided instead, this wouldn't have troubled us.
- David (10/5): - Always a pleasure
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very welcoming and helpful. Lovely selection of food for breakfast.
- Steve (8/5): - Great room/suite and good foood
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the Studio with its own kitchen. Good sized bathroom and breakfsast items supplied in the room - really cosy.
- Chris (10/5): Happy - All good. Very happy.
- Dave (8/5): Great accommodation, but. - Can not fault the accommodation at all, very clean well presented and a great location for what we were doing that weekend. Let down by the lack of a cooked beakfast. Although the web site does not say a cooked breafast is supplied it does not say a continental is. As for continental very poor attempt made. Low fat yoghurt, bread and a bit of fruit. No hame cheese or eggs available. When we asked about breakfast the employee said there is a coop down the road if you want some cheese.
Accommodation 10/10
Food 2/10
Would i stay again No. But only because I want a cooked breakfast.
- Roy (10/5): Great place to stay out of Cambridge City Centre - Arrived and received a very warm welcome. Rooms are above pub, but heard no noise. Own entrance from car park. Room very comfortable as was the bed. No staff or owners living on site, but assured that phone numbers left would be answered. Breakfast is DIY in a kitchen area. Plenty of food left out including fresh fruit, yoghurts, bread & croissants.
The property is about a 20 minute drive from Cambridge, otherwise there is a park & ride a short drive away. If visiting Cambridge again we will definitely stay at The Porterhouse.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Although it was further out of the city than we anticipated we enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and sufficient for our two night stay. Special mention has to be made of the amazing pizza we were served in the hotel dining room.
- Martin (10/5): Business trip - Nice hotel, great location.
- Therese (10/5): Nic B&B with great food! - This is a nice pub B&B and lovely rooms upstairs. The staff and welcoming and friendly and the food here is great! The rooms are clean, good decor and wifi is great too. The best part of this B&B is breakfast in bed, as they have a self service kitchen with lots of options.
- Martin (8/5): Really nice. - Really good, would stay a again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Close to Addenbrookes for early appt! - Perfect location, friendly and catered for just what we needed. Self serve cont breakfast and drinks, was plentiful and fresh. We will be back, hopefully enjoy some dining too!
- Denise (10/5): Be back soon - Great place to stay with friendly bar and restaurant. Staff were brilliant and the breakfast kitchen is a great idea
- Chris (10/5): Warm, cozy, and great dinner in the Pub! - The staff are incredibly friendly and the food in the pub downstairs is awesome!! Had a chat with the chef who was only too happy to make recommendations!
- Anne (10/5): Friendly, cosy and quaint - Lovely one night stay with friends. Staff could not have been more friendly. Good selection of beers and food delicious. We loved having our own little shared kitchen, which meant we could make drinks when we wanted and real milk in the fridge! Fruit loaf was gorgeous, wanted to take it home.
- MERVE (8/5): great service but so far from cambridge city centr - if you are there as a tourist to visit cambridge the hotel is really far from the city and there is no bus, you have to get taxi which cost around 25£ one way. apart from this the hotel is gorgeous! it is very clean, cosy, well decorated. the hotel staff thought every single detail for you, you can find many complimentary staff in the kitchen from yogurth to cookies... there is even a dvd player with selection of the movies!
- beverley (10/5): Hotel 30 mins from burghley hirsectrails - We were busting Burghley Horse Trails and couldn't get a hotel nearer to stay. We found this one and its was beautiful, it's like your own self contained flat there were 4 girls and it was perfect for us, we will re visit next year
- John (8/5): Useful stopover on our journey - We stayed for 1 night. Having checked in at the bar, everything else was self service. There was a small kitchen which you could help yourself to refreshments at any time and breakfast in the morning. The room was comfortable, although the twin beds were very small.
Good bathroom facilities, and we just left the key in the door on departure.
- Byron (10/5): Oasis of WOW - After a very long 2 days of fussing with rental car and small hotels.
Staff was more than willing to hold hot food for our late arrival.
The room was spacious, clean, and fully appointed.
Comfy bed if a bit small for a 'queen'
Large shower and great kitchen
The Staff was outstanding !!!!!!!!
- fred (6/5): for business trip, but don't forget your earplugs - Our room was above the pub and at a busy junction so you definitively need your earplugs. F
or breakfast, you will have to share the two chairs between three rooms, it's self serving continental - read bad long shelf life viennoiseries and the thrill of not knowing whether you'll have orange juice for the three rooms.
Space wise, room #2 was very small, with very few spaces to put your clothes and underwear so that's good enough for a one-night but no more.
Finally, for the same price we had much better options in pubs elsewhere in Cambridgeshire ...
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely pub in a village outside Cambridge - Excellent facilities very homely. Breakfast was provided in the room very generous portions of fruit bread biscuits eggs crumpets and more. With the pub downstairs hot food was available for lunch and evening meal if required, they were happy for you to purchase drinks and take them to your room. The rooms benefit by having their own entrance. Highly recommend staying here.
- BA (6/5): Cosy and clean - The rooms are above a restaurant/pub and its access is via a separate entrance. Interior of room is cosy, modern, spacious and clean. Breakfast is DIY - all food is in kitchen where guests would prepare themselves.
- Lori (8/5): Small, but, nice. - Room was up a flight of stairs and we had to lug our bags. Room was small, but, very clean.
- Geoff (10/5): First class - This is a great B&B attached to a terrific pub that has some good real ales and serves great freshly cooked food. I'm already looking forwards to my next trip to the area, as a SHALL be booking into the Porterhouse again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Unusual and novel way of doing B&B but staff were helpful, the room was good and the breakfast was excellent. We chose to eat our evening meal at The Duke of Wellington (which we knew previously to be excellent, and is a joint enterprise with the Porter House) but the food trade at the Porterhouse was clearly popular, too.
- vicki (10/5): Loved the kitchen - Brilliant idea of having your own kitchen... no rushing to get dressed to go down to the main pub area...
Quaint clean tidy and extremely helpful staff in organising taxis etc..
Will definitely go back!
