Guest Reviews
- Deanna (10/5): - Very clean, just newly remodeled, quiet and super friendly. Great access of the freeway.
- Cassie (10/5): - The manager has gone above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The property has been recently renovated so everything is new and in good condition.
- Kenneth (2/5): My review is a 0 - I’ll never stay there again
- mike (2/5): - Nothing , it was a unclean room.Dirty floor, moldy smell, fly and bug everywhere. Not fit for anyone to stay at.
- Ashleigh (4/5): - The check in was okay. The hotel room was actually pretty nice, a little dated but nice. My main concern was the safety. I was scared our car was gonna get busted into and be on cinder blocks when we woke up. There was also used nasty underwear at the bottom of the stairs.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - "Renovated" room looked like it was still under construction. Floor around ac had water damage and was spongy. Ac did not cool the room well. Had strange policies against children. Made you list the names of people in the room. Parole officer came to the property and went to several rooms.
- Jennifer (2/5): Don’t even think about it! - Not as shown in pictures. Pool has no water - just dirty walls, sketchy people walking around, & non-smoking room smells of smoke. Overall this place is a dive! Don’t waste your money.
- AthenLodge Dive (2/5): Athens Lodge..Don't waist your money. - First the address was not found on Google Map or on our navigation device. Called for directions and the hotel desk clerk could not give us clear directions. It was after dark, raining and foggy and difficult to find. When we did finally find the road the only hotel was "The Red Roof Inn". I called the desk clerk again to clarify and told him I was looking for his hotel the "Athens Lodge" he said, "Oh yeah, the sign hasn't been changed yet...This is the Red Roof Inn but will be changing to the "Athens Lodge." Very confusing and not a very helpful person. I told him I would be right in but when I came in the front was locked. He was busy doing something and basically acted like he did not see me. Finally he unlocked the door and let me in. I had already registered on the internet but he wanted to make a copy of my credit card and ID on the copy machine, both front and back. (Great way to have your identify stolen). I was given my key and went into the room. 11 p.m. and very tired. I could here every foot step of the neighbor above because the floor do not have carpet on them. The Beds were poorly made and the mattresses are lumpy. The water in the shower was leaking steady flow of hot water and the sink girdled from the water draining in the bath tub. Took a shower and the towels in the bathroom were the size of a kitchen hand towel. (I'm not kidding here). The roughest towel I had ever used and still could not get dry. About 3 am the fire alarm went off!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Hurricane Athens - Booked a room for my daughter who was having to evacuate from hurricane Irma. Called the hotel spoke with Ben told him she was coming and that I paid for the room. He was a mess his staff quit. But he assured me if she had the email all would be ok. After driving 16 hours she arrived and was told there were no rooms and to get a refund from Expedia. Today Expedia emailed me and said Athens denied the refund! I was livid!
- steve (2/5): Bad hotel, stay away, disgusting, ridiculous - Unfinished room, bugs,no tp, towels, soap or anything that you expect a hotel to have.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This motel is horrible. I travel quite a bit and have never stayed in a place where no towels were available. None were delivered after being requested. Television and internet do not work. Parking area is trashy as is the appearance of the motel itself.
- Debbie (10/5): Awesome - Other than the room had a overpowering smell of cigarette smoke it was awesome
- frequent travel (2/5): Hotel not ready for business - apparently, the hotel with recently purchased and the owner was forced to open the hotel by the lender. The hotel was nowhere near ready to be open. Hotel was very messy, rooms are nowhere near ready to be used. The bed was embarrassing with all the stains on the mattress. Internet did not function, and the ever ties breakfast was nonexistent because the owner " forgot to order". Red roof inn should have investigated this before putting their name outside.
- Karen (2/5): Fire Department visit, smoker set of alarm - left at 11:30 p.m. due to fire alarm constantly going off because of a smoker in one of the rooms. He tampered with alarm to try to keep it from sounding. Athen Tennessee Fire Department came ,found out excally what happened. Fireman said he could be charged with a FELONY for tampering with a alarm.
- Bear (2/5): Horrific Hotel - Our stay was a disastrous, horrendous experience from the moment we arrived. The room we were in had significant ceiling damage. The stucco was peeling, hanging and falling from the ceiling. We were very cold through the night as we couldn't turn on the heater because it was covered in the fallen ceiling debris. We had to ask the staff to change the sheets as they had clearly been slept in and were wrinkled, stained and dirty. The toilet seat was stained and there was a hole in the door to washroom. When we thought we could finally settle in we discovered the washroom was stocked with virtually no toilet paper and the remote for the tv was missing. It was unbearable experience and its difficult to believe we actually paid for such experience.
- Stephen (6/5): Hotel under new management - It was adequate.
- Verified traveler (2/5): broken down and tired. - NReservations not forwarded, air conditioner falling off wall, no towels or coffee machine,no handle on bathroom door.
- EuAnne (6/5): Hotel is in transition to a National Brand Chain - This hotel, now under new ownership, was previously known in the area as a place for transients and drug users. The building has been cleaned up, although we did find roaches in 2 rooms. The towels we scarce and worn with holes and stains. Same with the bed sheets which we had to have changed upon arrival. There was no toilet paper for two days. I will say the staff was very accommodating to all our requests. The staff is trying hard to change the image of this place. We stayed 4 nights and, by the last night, we had everything we needed.
- Charlyn L. (2/5): Horrible motel - We did not stay at this motel. We had been told it had been renovated. Before going to the room, I asked the young lady what time breakfast was served. She replied she didn't know if there would be any breakfast or what time. When we walked into the room it smelled of cigarette smoke, there were flies, the AC did not work and the commode seat was broken. It was a very disappointing experience, to say the least.
- Evan (4/5): Room was clean but had roaches - There were a lot of problems with this hotel right from the start. Upon check in there was no one at the front desk and I had to wait 5 to 10 minutes before anyone showed up. Internet wasn't reachable in the first room I was assigned. Going in the room, the curtains were not completely attached to the curtain rod. Room smelled old. Air conditioner a bit loud though not to bad - A/C was very cold. No soap in the bathroom. I saw a roach afternoon, night, and morning. Probably related to that is a nearly overfilled dumpster not so far from the room. It takes 6 to 8 seconds to switch channels (and while I was watching the presidential debate, the signal actually cut out for a few minutes). There was no breakfast. Health inspection rating posted on wall was 72/100 (May 2016). On the plus side, the room itself was clean (despite the roaches), the courtyard was spacious (empty pool though), surrounding wooded area is tranquil, cost is not high. Athens Lodge is supposed to be in progress of becoming Red Roof Inn. If they get their act together (especially with pest control), it has potential to easily beat out other entry level hotels in the area, but as it stands I can not recommend this place. Although not a horrible experience, to be honest this was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Travelocity clearly doesn't vet hotel info - Listed on Travelocity as the Athen's Lodge but this is not the Athen's Lodge, as a matter of fact, the sign was draped in a big black cover. Though amenities were listed, there were NONE. No continental breakfast....not sure I would have wanted to eat there anyway. There was never an internet connection that presented on any of our devices. The pool was empty and trashed out, the courtyard was horrible and through many of the windows (conference area and many rooms) all you saw was furniture and mattresses piled up. This will be the last time we will go through Travelocity as, the info was so far off that, this didn't even appear to be the same hotel that we saw online - I mean there could be mention that it has recently changed owners and is under construction. Also, even though the number of adults per room is 2, we were still charged an 'extra adult' fee - I've never even heard of this let alone when you've not even come close to the listed capacity of guests in a room. This was, BY FAR, the worst hotel experience I've ever had, the majority of that is attributed to the extreme misrepresentation of the facility on the Travelocity website.... So again, Travelocity listed this as the Athen's Lodge and that's what it said on my itinerary, there was no signage indicating what the name of the place was and, when Travelocity sent the request for me to review my recent stay, they were calling this place the Red Roof Inn. I wouldn't advise staying here under any name.
- Regina (10/5): 5 star - Loved it.
