- Ignatius (8/5): Very good - staffs are good. good breakfast. room clean also good. most of lights and power plugs are not working. No wifi service to the room it’s poor coverage. shower water pressure very low. No tv working. payments should be pay by credit card or USD. local currency not accepted.
- Quest291264 (10/5): Lovely hotel with modern amenities in the heart of Lalibela - Located in the heart of this small town among the neighbors, the hotel was clean, safe, and offered a delicious breakfast. The hotel has a unique and stunning architecture, as well as a friendly and helpful staff. It is close to restaurants, a tej bet that has live performances, and close to all the historic sites this town has to offer.
- Dawit (10/5): - Excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful hotel in Lalibela - We traveled during the off season but were warmly welcomed. Our stay was comfortable and the breakfast delicious!
- SeanMendis (10/5): Great service - I was extremely pleased with Harbe Hotel as my accommodation choice when visiting Lalibela. I communicated with them in advance to arrange airport transfers and an English speaking guide to tour the churches, and they did not disappoint. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. An excellent experience overall.
- kevinsmithnyc (8/5): Friendly and super helpful - I wanted to give a shout out to the hotel and the staff who were warm and friendly to two weary travelers on our recent trip to Lalibela. The room was comfortable, the water was hot and the hotel team ready to help. They even arranged for a tour to the Yemrehana Krestos Church with about 2 hours notice. I highly recommend giving this hotel a try.
- 172divyas (6/5): Warm & Friendly Hospitality! - The trip was amazing & the hotel had great service. The most exceptional part of both the trip as well as the hotel was our lovely & sweet guide Mr Etsub - Friesibhat or otherwise as he called himself Mr Happy. He was extremely well-informed , kind , caring & made it a point to show us around in the short while we had & the whole trip he had a big smile on his face was affable , friendly , helpful & cared a lot of our needs.
I highly recommend him to anyone & everyone who goes there though I feel the people generally there are extremely sweet & friendly.
He provided us his contact details which the hotel might have but I would like to put them up here for anyone who would need it.

The hospitality at the hotel was great too.
- MarkA426 (10/5): Lovely European Villa Vibe Hotel - Harbe Hotel is a lovely modern hotel with a European "Villa Vibe" in a beautiful setting.
The balconies offer magnificent views of the mountains....leave the door slightly open to enjoy the breeze flowing through your room.
The Harbe Hotel Chef does a wonderful job cooking individual "made to order" dishes, and his staff maintains a good breakfast buffet each morning.
You will pay a bit more for this hotel in Lalibela, but the extra cost is worth it.
- Sami (8/5): - Quite decent place but also a decent walk from the old churches.
- louismengistu (10/5): Extremely well organized, comfortable and warm hotel - Super relaxing place after a long trip.At Harbe hotel you'll feel lucky to have found a welcoming and beautiful hotel. The staff including the owner are at your service 24hrs. They are kind and caring and the place is just a unique spot in an overwhelming town. The views are amazing and ask for their pancakes!!
- Owen144 (10/5): Best in Ethiopia - A gem of a hotel. Great staff, very nice owner and perfectly positioned. Rooms are good as are the food and service and excellently located for sightseeing. Lalibela is the jewel of Ethiopia and this is the perfect place to enjoy it
- LizzyW146 (8/5): Best hotel I stayed at in Ethiopia - I enjoyed my stay at Harbe Hotel, because it was the quietest I stayed at in my time in Ethiopia and the hot water in the bathroom was reliable. The rooms were clean, and the facilities provided were sufficient. Rooms have a nice outlook, especially for watching the setting sun. Laundry charges were reasonable, as was price of food in restaurant. The breakfast isn’t a buffet, but an item ordered off the menu. Juice and toast is included, and the avocado and banana juices offered at breakfast were the most delicious I have tasted anywhere.
One improvement that could be made would be to put a bug screen on the sliding doors. As there is no air con, sometimes the door has to be opened at night for ventilation.
- alv896 (8/5): Nice, three year old hotel with good staff - We stayed at the Harbe Hotel for two nights, and very much enjoyed our stay. The room was great with very comfortable beds, we could lock some valuables in our end tables, there was a great view from our balcony of the horizon/landscape (no chairs to sit on however), hot shower with adequate pressure, and the restaurant served good food, moderately priced. Staff very friendly and helpful; they organized a guide and transportation for a tour of the rock-hewn churches. The only piece that was disappointing was the transportation fee to the churches: 500 birr for what ended up being a fairly short distance. For that price, one would also expect a ride back, but our guide had us walk back. All in all, however, a positive experience and I would definitely recommend this hotel.
- Dulcie-K (8/5): Great views, comfortable hotel - We stayed for 4 nights in the Harbe Hotel in December 2019. The hotel was very clean and the staff very helpful. It is slightly off the main drag but as with the rest of northern Ethiopia we had no problem walking around after dark.
The only downside is that there isn't really a breakout area - there are a couple of chairs in reception but nowhere really to relax other than the bedroom.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Reasonably good stay. Breakfast was decent.
Bonne position pr visiter lalibela. Personnel sympa.
- CJKLuxembourg (8/5): Trying hard - This is a small owner managed establishment, with staff genuinely trying harder. Magnificent rooftop terrace for sundowners and one of Africa's better sunsets. Rooms are small but clean, and fittings pretty wobbly, literally so in some cases. Electrics in particular completely defeated me. But I would go back. Hotel restaurant adequate.
- Tamisch (8/5): Nice hotel in lalibela - Nice clean rooms, nice balcony that you can see the view. hot water in the shower, the stream is also ok.
Good location.
Very nice and helpful staff, especially Chu chu in the reception.
The breakfast they can improve.
- rfaithnelson (10/5): Nice hotel, Clean/Large Room & Good Location - We spent 2 nights here during our stay in Lalibela and enjoyed our stay. The hotel was cute, our room clean, staff helpful & food fine/similar to what we would find throughout our 8 days in Ethiopia. The wi-fi worked best in the restaurant/reception area which was also similar to our other experiences in Ethiopia. The rating is based on our experiences at other Ethiopian hotels (not US standards) but we were very content here & would stay again.
- philip (10/5): Lovely! - Lovely hotel - simple and stylish with great service
- KATIKA (10/5): Boutique hotel with personality - Had an exceptional stay at this hotel, helpful workers, delicious food (best food I've tasted in Ethiopia) ,and very modern and comfortable room. The wifi is a little weak at certain times of the day so be prepared, I would definately recommended this boutique hotel
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room had an excellent view. The food was some of the best we had during our stay. Very reasonable price for the room. A driver picked us up from the airport and made all arrangements for us to visit the churches.
- ug97 (10/5): One of the nicest little hotels in Ethiopia - We stayed here for two nights in August, and I am pretty sure we were the only ones there the entire time, with it being the rainy season and many flights being cancelled. It appears to be a relatively new hotel and designed to offer you fresh mountain air and beautiful views into the city and mountains. It's in a lovely, quiet part of town, but not to far from St. George's church - a short jaunt by tuk tuk. The food was extremely good quality and delicious. We had some long chats with the cook and other staff, as it was very quiet in the hotel and everyone was relaxed and friendly. The floors can get slippery in a heavy rain, as although they are sheltered, they are open (on the outside of the building). I really enjoyed my time here, and would definitely recommend it.
- jone2222 (4/5): Extra charges for everything - We had a very tense stay at Harbe Hotel because they tried to charge many extra services including the airport transfer that was offered free on the web site (sudenly our receipt increased 53 euros). Laundry was delivered wet and dirty and they argued that it was due to rainy season. Meanwhile the manager asked for good reviews on a very insistant way. It is hard to complain about unfair issues when you are on holidays, you just hope cheating will not happen, less in a hotel where you pay an important amount of money.
- Bridgehat (10/5): 2 nights in Lalibela - We had a wonderful two days exporing Lalibela and the sounding area and would thoroughly recommend staying at Harvey Hotel. It’s well located in the town . It’s a short walk up to the churches but you can also take a TukTuk up the hill from the hotel if you so wish . It’s also a very short walk to the range of town where you can sit and enjoy the tranquility , birds chirping , and watch the early morning activities of the folk in the valley below as they make their way up the winding pathways to the town .
The hotel itself was spotless , bright and airy, and the staff were all amazingly helpful and friendly and able to offer assistance in finding a guide who accompanied us for two days. Ask at the front desk for Ermiyas he comes well recommended and the added bonus is that Ermiyas is a birder so you’ll also learn a lot about the various birds in and around Lalibela. Meals served at the hotel are simple but tasty and sufficient.
- Paul (8/5): - I liked that it was clean, the bed was comfortable and there was hot water.
- whocates (10/5): Perfect stay - Hotel looks brand new. Had to search a little to find it, but once identified then no problem at all. Everything is clean and everybody smiling and polite. Both local and international food at the restaurant were excellent! Highly recommend it!
- metasebiay2019 (10/5): we enjoyed our time in Harbe Hotel Lalibella - My friend and I stayed at Harbe hotel for 2 days and we had an amazing time. The hotel was very clean and has friendly staff. we enjoyed their food from the breakfast buffet to lunch and dinner. The hotel also has a nice rooftop where we caught the beautiful sunset in Lalibella. They have arranged all our daily tour with a tour guide by the name of Henok. He is knowledgeable about the history. He took his time to explain every detail and went with our pace. He made the tour, the whole experience extra adventurous and fun. Thank you all for your hospitality I can not wait to come back for the rest of the tours.
- Jon2019d (10/5): Great Accomodation - My family and I stayed for one night and had a pleasant experience in this clean and quiet hotel. Above all the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. There is a beautiful rooftop terrace and there are also good restaurants nearby.
- Janki (10/5): - Clean and fairly modern hotel, and great staff (very helpful and nice). The restaurant serves decent food. The menu has the standard Ethiopian hotel dishes. The location is a little bit outside the center. My only complaint is that there are no mosquito nets on the windows and balcony doors. The room was full of mosquitos at night!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A good escape from the tough road in to Lalibela. Well laid out with plenty of lobby area and seating, attentive and helpful staff, a large menu to choose from with very good soups and decent wifi.
- stephen (10/5): More than adequate place to stay - The hotel is a 30-minute walk from the entrance to the northern group of churches.
Pleasant and quiet place to stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good value hotel, friendly staff and comfortable room. Well located for our needs
- Jose Antonio (6/5): A hotel with no internet in the rooms. - The only good thing of that hotel is Moges, the man in the reception. Very helpfull. thank you for your advices and helping me to book another hotel by phone. But I would never go back to that hotel. No internet in the rooms -though they say they have. No shuttle bus to the airport. And all the inconveniences you can imagine.
- Calum (10/5): Helpful staff, comfortable and great views! - I found the location of this hotel to be excellent. The views over the mountains was great from my balcony. I found the staff to be very eager to help and they set me up with an excellent guide!
- Loui (8/5): Great location, good restaurant, good staff - This is your best option in terms of location in Lalibela, walking distance to all churches.
Staff do speak English, have the right attitude and pay attention to detail.
Extraordinary views of the city if you request a room with a balcony. Decent, clean, safe and good food prepared by the restaurant. Spacious room with very basic setting but more than adequate for what you require during your 2, 3 to 5 days stay. Own and managed by locals it is a great finding. I would not personally stay in another hotel where you have to walk lots to reach the churches. This hotel is in a 10 mins walk to everywhere you need to visit as a tourist. Would recommend to friends and would comeback, good for all type of occasions.
two recommendations: 1. change the pillows as they are thicker than usual; 2 lower down the volume of the TV in the lobby
- Thomas (10/5): - Great staff, quiet spot, great rooms, great value. Very good breakfast. And they hooked me up with a great guide to churches and the monastery at the top of the mountain. The manager, Moges Wedaje, was very helpful, and took me to some great local places i never would have found on my own.
- John (10/5): - Excellent value! Some of the rooms have beautiful views of the mountains. Very easy to arrange tours of the churches. Shuttle to and from airport.
- Hana (10/5): - Very nice property, pleasant staff, great location. We have received bottled wanter when we arrived, the bed was very comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel was nice but we'd booked for two nights and they sold our room for the second meaning they had to move us elsewhere, which was pretty disruptive. The new room wasn't as nice either.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice staff and clean room - The staff is nice and polite and the room is clean.
There are different choices of breakfast.
- C (8/5): A Nice Place to Rest - Harbe was a nice place to lay our heads during our visit to Lailbela! The facility is clean and the service is good. The hotel is within walking distance of an ATM and several restaurants and shops.
When traveling to Lailbela again, I would definitely consider Harbe!
- Olivia (10/5): - Lovely place, a little farther from the main part of town than some of the others, but lovely rooms and lovely view. Wi fi was excellent in the lobby and OK in the rooms.
- Harbe Hotel (10/5): Great place to stay in Lalibela - I had a great three-night at Harbe Hotel. The hotel is very clean, well-located and the service is outstanding. Salem, especially, is really helpful arranging everything from tours to nights out on the town. The food is also very good with the best breakfast I've had in Ethiopia so far. The terrace is a nice place for a beer or a meal with a beautiful view. I will definitely stay here again if I return to Lalibela.
- Jan (10/5): Perfect location, good service, nice food - They have the best location in town for those who want to visit the Lalibela churches on their own. The staff is friendly and they even sent their own driver to meet me at the airport (price the same as for a shared shuttle). The dinner and the breakfast were excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice option in Lalibela - I spent one night at Harbe hotel during a weekend trip from Addis. The hotel is relatively new, clean, and spacious. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are large and the showers are hot. The restaurant serves tasty food. The only downside is that I was covered in flee bites once I got home. I understand that fleas are a common problem in Lalibela, but a hotel of this category should find ways to offer flea-free beds and nights.
- pablo (10/5): One of your best options in Lalibela - Nice views from most rooms and the roof, very comfortable bed, clean and feauriribg warm design. The restaurant serves well prepared food (nothing special though). The staff is very invested into one's well-being. If you don't mind the 15-20 min walk to the churches or the 30 mins downtown (maybe you even like being in a quiet spot), then this is a perfect place.
The only thing I did not like is that the manager seemingly "punished" my bargaining for a free airport shuttle by giving me a room eirh an obstructed view. There were definitely rooms available, as it was low season abd the hotel seemed rather empty (hallways, restaurant, etc). This kind of "an eye for an eye" mentality seems inappropriate. ih, and wifi is on and off, but that's wthiopia for you.
- Wing Tak (10/5): - Nice and comfy room, very clean and everything is new
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Terrific service and an excellent restaurant at this new hotel in Lalibela. The only downside is that the room got stuffy at night with the sliding door closed against insects; the hotel doesn't provide nets, and there's nowhere to hang one if you bring your own. The location is perfect for exploring Lalibela during the day -- the churches are very close by, and so are quite a few other hotels and souvenir shops. But do be aware that the hotel is on an unpaved side street, not on a main drag, and that you might not feel comfortable walking to and from the larger street once it gets dark. Moreover, your comings and goings will be noted by the kids who hang around on the corner and ask tourists for money, books, etc. No one wants to feel like a mark, and most tourists would be more inclined to patronize the nearby shops and restaurants if they weren't hassled for money, pens, etc. every time they went to and from their hotel. The only way to avoid it is to eat in the hotel or to take a tuk-tuk from door to door to another restaurant, which of course takes away the possibility of exploration and random encounters with the very friendly and exceptionally welcoming adult Ethiopians. Of course, you can also enlist one of the kids to be your unofficial guide, which will stop the others from encroaching and might even make you a new friend in the process.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice hotel, looked and felt brand-new. Had a very nice stay there.
- Alma (10/5): Awesome. Comfort. - It was great. We ate all of our meals there. Food made to order.
