• Anh (10/5): - This property felt like staying at a good friend’s house. The manager, Tony, his staff, made us feel like family and went out of their way to help welcome us to Monteverde by not only recommending activities, but arranging them for us and making sure the tour companies actually took care of us. The breakfast every morning was made with care and the service was truly hospitable. The smallest minor issue is that there is no Air Conditioning in the room, which is expected in an eco-friendly lodge, however, the patio door had no screen, either so although it would have been lovely to get some fresh air into the room- the night critters from the forest made that impossible. Overall, the was the most personable lodging in our whole trip and we would highly recommend for someone seeking something family-owned and quiet.

• Debra (10/5): - Wonderful stay. Great and helpful staff helped us plan and arrange tours. Good value for money. Away from noise. Privacy. Saw a capybara eating from the fallen fruit (figs). Monse was especially nice and she has a beautiful and friendly little daughter. Great free fresh hot breakfast.

• Bobra (8/5): - This is a great place to stay if spending time in Monteverde or St. Elena as it's centrally located. The room was large, beautiful, and very clean with a comfortable bed and modern bathroom. Free breakfast was cooked to order, plentiful, and delicious. There are no "views" as it's tucked in against tall trees. Some of the less than 5 stars above are because the check-in staff person woman was rude to us because Expedia said I had already paid half, and Expedia had failed to charge me (from booking 5 months prior - who can remember that far back?), and I had to go lookup Amex charges, which didn't exist. Once I paid what was due, I tried to make nice with her, as it wasn't my fault either, and she continued to chastise me that she knew better! So she clearly doesn't know about customer service. The male manager was extremely nice the next day. The WiFi didn't work well. And also they were using a very noisy leaf-blower for a while in the morning, which really disturbed our ability to enjoy the morning.
• Steve (10/5): - Tony is an amazing host. He knows all of the area attractions and will do all he can to make your stay relaxed and enjoyable. The water temp in the shower is a bit tricky and brought the total score down a bit. Breakfast is delicious and prepared individually.

Tony and Monse are so helpful and endearing and always greeted us with a smile.We were also lucky enough to meet Tony's brother and wife and granddaughter. The close encounter with tbe monkeys and seeing such incredibly beautiful birds including the elusive Bell Bird. The breakfast was huge and so delicious. This is the place to stay in Monteverde!!

• Ritesh (6/5): - The biggest con of this property is there is no one at the property after 8pm sometimes even earlier. The property is a bit old and the locks & keys don't work properly. If you are unable to open the lock or lose keys after 8pm then you are stuck in the middle of nowhere with no help. Other cons - small showers and limited parking.

We arrived in the early evening and were met by a very friendly professional and polite young lady who explained the B&B to us and showed us to our rooms. The parking was a little cramped but not bad. The room was quiet and clean and delightful and had a mini fridge. The next morning, we went to breakfast and were met by the owner Antonio who was a very friendly and outgoing host. He explained the history of the dreams lodge and suggested places of interest to visit and to eat at locally. The dreams lodge was close to many businesses and within walking distance to several nice places to eat. This was an exceptional place to stay, and we would highly recommend it. We will return.

Tony helped us find monkeys, and brought bananas for us to give to them. He had great recommendations for activities and food around MonteVerde. They made sure you were well taken care of and that you enjoyed your stay. We will definitely stay here again. Would recommend this place to anyone.

He made breakfast for us, introduced us to the troop of capuchin monkeys that live in the trees nearby and helped us book tours. Everything is well taken care of in the facility. There is no a/c but the cool nights keep you cool at night. Restaurants are only a short walk We’d stay here again for sure

• AppleJaq (10/5): Very basic lodge with charm - I’m still giving this 5 stars as Dreams Lodge is charming and rustic but it is budget accommodation with very basic facilities. For instance there is no hot water in any of the sinks nor any drink making facilities, although there is a fridge. There is no fan/aircon in the room, nor any heating (Monteverde can get very chilly, windy and wet) the tin roof is noisy and the wind rattles around the building. There is no chair to sit on in the room, so if you want to sit, you do need to use the bed. A double and single bed were crammed into this room with no moveable space. We needed to move the double out from the wall to access both sides as it’s near on impossible at our ages to clamber over each other in the middle of the night. There is no garden or seating areas outside other than a church pew immediately outside our door overlooking the carpark (which used to be the green space you see in the photo of the building). There is a cement table and benches on a square of grass next to this quite ample car park. The reception is locked at 9pm and there is no one on site if there is a problem. It is also quite isolated and a trek up a steep unmade road to access anything. The dust and wind made it a very unpleasant walk. So if you want to stay the night in the area and you have a car and are looking for very basic, budget accommodation, I would highly recommend it as the breakfast is great, the staff and hospitality are perfect and the troop of Capuchin monkeys that join you for their breakfast each day absolutely adorable. We were expecting something with a little more than these basic facilities from our tour operator, Exoticca, as part of our Costa Rican package and we raised the issue with them immediately to pass on to the local operative but they did not engage with us and we had these very basic facilities for 3 nights. We were very disappointed as other people in our group had better/ more suitable accommodation nearby on exactly the same package. If you are being offered this as a part of a touring holiday, I would request a change before you go. That doesn’t stop us recommending this lodge if you are looking for a low budget, value for money stay, with an abundance of charm and will be out all day, this is the perfect place to be very close to the activities Monteverde has to offer.
• hellomabel (10/5): A proper welcome - Dreams Lodge was the last hotel we stayed in in our two weeks in Costa Rica, and the best. From the food (top quality breakfast, bowls of fruit followed by eggs, ham and pancakes) to the service (Costa Ricans are very kind and hospitable, but the staff here took it to the next level, being unbelievably helpful), nothing was too much trouble. We felt we had received a proper welcome.
• Maneera (8/5): - Very cute property. Nice, clean, smaller rooms. Beds were very comfortable. Hot water came and went (solar water heaters, so not available all of the time). Property was small, but lots of animals. Staff was very helpful! Walkable to grocery store and restaurants.

Easy to get collected from and dropped off to by the various trips/tours on offer, and a couple of good restaurants a short walk from it. Would recommend it
• debras743 (8/5): Dreams Lodge has some dreamy aspects. - The ladies who work there are SO lovely -- helpful, hardworking, kind, able. The place is pretty and very clean The breakfast was delicious and prompt. The room that was given for us for my husband's disability didn't quite work,though. The shower is in the middle of a large jetted tub (not accessible for a person in a wheelchair).

• Komator (10/5): Great hotel to explore Monteverde - Everything was great. We used the hotel as a base to explore Monteverde and the Cloud Forest. The hotel is not centrally located, so you need a car to get there. However, this makes for a very peaceful stay. The price is reasonable (though the discount applied only if you paid in cash, which we only found out at the hotel). The staff is very friendly, offering advice on what to do or where to eat, and they helped us organize excursions to the zip lines and hanging bridges. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. Highly recommended hotel.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Ok stay - This was one of our most expensive hotels we stayed and I was not crazy about it. There is no A/C or fan and unfortunately not a window with net. So we had to open the door to the little balcony and we had a huge spider there next day. Very small room for 4 people staying in a closed room. We ordered breakfast for 7 but they showed up at 7am and we waited at least 20 mins for food. It was ok for us but if you have a cab waiting for you be aware. We also had a mountain view and all we had was very close trees in front of the balcony. The young guy who worked there was very nice and helpful.
• kang (2/5): - Terrible plumbing, always noisy due to flushing, substandard room and bedding. Service is not attended to details and doesn't seem to care. No hot water (limited solar heating). It was the worst stay and not worth the money comparing to all other stays in my Costa Rica trip.
• 762dickyd (6/5): Good location/food but needs air con/dehumidifier - Good location, very helpful staff, great breakfast (plus you can use the kitchen for prepping your own food). Rooms did not have air con or dehumidifier so sheets and towels were damp throughout and were not changed over 3 days/2 nights (website claims daily room service which did not materialise)

The breakfast was included and was delicious every day. There were several restaurants within easy walking distance which was convenient because we didn't have a car. Monkeys came to visit during breakfast just before we checked out. Highly recommended

• Q7269BWjamesm (10/5): Dreams Lodge is a great place to stay!! - This was a great place to stay in the cloud forest. The rooms were perfect and breakfast was really good. The bonus for us was when the capuchin monkeys showed up after breakfast while we were getting ready to leave, so we got to give them bananas to eat. The staff was super friendly and always accomodating. They recommended a superb night tour and made arrangments for us to be picked up. You cannot go wrong with this place - it is a must stay!

Tony helped us organize popular tours including coffee farm, night walks, ziplining, and horseback riding. He gave us the best recommendations and my kids had a great time. The breakfast was also delicious and we enjoyed Tony’s homemade marmalade. I highly recommend staying here!

Extremely friendly staff treats you like family!! - Extremely friendly staff, and Tonney won't let you leave for your daily activities until you've had his breakfast!! Fairly quiet (there is a small dirt road that runs adjacent to the property, where dirtbikes and ATV's occasionally go down, making noise), secluded property. Good location, outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown, but close enough to go for restaurants and activities! Rooms are a little small. Bathroom, including the shower, was less than 2 meters square. A lot of colorful birds around! We saw some wild parrots in the treetops!! Howler monkeys will wake you up at sunrise!! (we enjoyed hearing them :) )

• Jeff (10/5): Great Stay with Great Hosts - This was one of our best hotel stays ever. Tony and his team were excellent. Breakfast each morning was top-notch; Tony gave great recommendations for bird-watching tours, night walks, and ziplining; and our room had a little balcony where we could watch wildlife. We saw an agouti a couple of times and got a picture of a Motmot on the ground below us. If our travels bring us to Monteverde again, we will definitely be staying at the Dreams!

• Devon Adams (10/5): - This property was amazing. Not only that the staff make you feel at home. Tony was amazing and recommend great tours for us, if you want to see birds/wildlife ask him to book with Javier, he was an amazing guide. If we come back, we will definitely be staying here again!
• Jason (10/5): Great place to explore the area from - This was a lovely little place to stay, just slightly out of town but walkable in about ten minutes to the centre. Also walkable to the mirador Valle Escondido, which is worth the walk for sunset. Cabin was clean, I think we were in one of the smaller ones but it was fine for us. Bathroom was small and needs a bit of updating. Breakfast was fresh fruit and then either pancakes or rice and beans. Capuchin monkeys live in the area so you'll likely see those. Staff were always friendly and helpful, especially Betsy. Would be happy to go back there.
• Robert (8/5): - Smaller hotel, appears yo be family run. Very responsive staff, and very friendly. Good location, close to the Butterfly Gardens and away from the main road but not too far. Great sunset view over the valley is a short 10 minute walk away.

• Tracy (10/5): - Dreams Lodge is within walking distance of many food choices. The staff made us welcome and were very helpful in setting up transportation to activities so we didnt have to drive. We even experienced a monkey breakfast show. We would definitely recommend this lodge to others wanting a quiet place in Monteverde.
• Andrea (6/5): - The location is about a 20 minute walk from the main town in the area, Santa Elena, which was convenient (we preferred to walk rather than drive as the road to the property is quite rough, like many of the roads in the region). Parking was available and never an issue at the property during our stay. Breakfast was provided and we enjoyed the monkey "guests". Staff were very welcoming. The triple room, however, was quite small. The "larger" bed was a double (not queen) and there was also a twin, but they were quite close together in the room. The main concern, however, was the inconsistent electricity. On both days of our stay the power (and wifi, which was decent when it worked), went out for extended periods of time. We're not sure if this is specific to the property itself or indicative of the area, but can say that at least on the first night, power was available up the street and in the town. Overall, the property is a good choice if you're budget conscious and don't want to stay in a hostel in Santa Elena.

• kgeminii (10/5): Exactly what we were looking for! - My family of 4 (2 adults/2 teens) traveled to Monteverde to show the kids where we had visited 15 years ago on our honeymoon. (For this trip we decided to splurge on a place in Arenal and keep within a stricter budget in MV. Ironically, we found our hotel in Arenal extremely overpriced and unpleasant.) While it is true that the Dreams Lodge is low-frills, and the bathrooms are small and sparse, we were not looking for nor expecting luxury. What we needed was some TLC from staff and pleasant surroundings. This is exactly what we experienced! The rooms were clean. The beds had multiple standard-sized pillows (including some smaller throw pillows) and we each found what worked for us. The bathrooms were equipped with pedestal sinks, and a hutch with shelves for toiletries. (Having had no towel bars in the more expensive place in Arenal, we made due without the towel bars here as well. I brought a hanger in the room and hung my towel out to dry.)… What made the Dreams Lodge experience so wonderful for us was the staff, the surrounding wildlife, and the location. It was far enough from town to see wildlife on the grounds and appreciate a starlit sky on a windy night, but just a short drive to grab dinner in town. We had a troop of capuchin monkeys visit us each day. The staff were friendly, they allowed us to store our belongings in the office both for our early arrival AND our late departure. Breakfast was delicious. They offered transportation services to various locations and provided recommendations based on our interests. We also really enjoyed a nice little restaurant just a short walk down the dirt road that served great drinks and food in a lovely wood-paneled dining room. (I wish I remembered the name). Our friend’s daughter had a leg brace on and did fine walking the short distance down the road to the restaurant.
• lindac883 (2/5): Bare Bones - Clean but sparse. Not even a towel bar in the bathroom. No AC . No window screens. Can't even open a window. Furnishings need update. Water in bathroom came and went. No hot water in bathroom sink. Breakfast was good. The women who prepared it were very nice. Front desk had an attitude.

• MJBSLC (6/5): budget hotel, clean, terrible pillows, good breakfast, helpful staff - We reserved two rooms - they were spartan, but they really made every effort to make it charming. Flowers were dispersed throughout the room, and they gave us a sweet collection of holiday candy. The hotel is family-run and the folks that we interacted with were all very nice and helpful. The served us a very nice home-made breakfast which included a collection of yummy local fruit. My biggest complaint is the pillows, which were basically filled with chunks of foam. I have some neck issues and these pillows were pretty tough for me to sleep on - I wound up sleeping without a pillow.
• SlavaD1 (10/5): Great place to stay! - Dreams Lodge is a quiet and nice place to stay. Room was extremely clean, nice and comfortable. Breakfast was great as well. Receptionist Betsy was very helpful with advising and arranging different activities during our stay in Monteverde. I can highly recommend the Dreams Lodge.
• BASIL (10/5): We Enjoyed Out Stay - The accommodations and service were excellent. The location was close to restaurants and stores. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful in establishing tours and addressing questions.
• Justin (10/5): - Really good service. No fan or air conditioner in our room but other than that it was an awesome place. Not a big deal because it cools down at night. Breakfast was great (free and homemade). They booked all our “excursions” for us. Very kind people.
• Jigar (10/5): - Perfect quiet stay with clean and calm atmosphere. The hotel staff is very helpful and courteous. The front desk lady offered help with activity bookings and very responsive to WhatsApp messages.
• Serena (10/5): Lovely stay! - The hotel is in a quiet area in the outskirts of Monteverde, which was a great bet, as town can be rather noisy. Staff was fantastic and really helpful. Room was clean and well cared for. Nice shower and comfy bed. Enjoyable typical breakfast with free entertainment offered by the resident cat. Lovely stay!

• Charles V. (8/5): Check in - Owner couldn’t find our reservation because it was under Expedia and not VRBO. We did figure it out but it was stressful.
• Shan (6/5): Ok but not great - We stayed for two nights and although it was ok I have to say we were a little disappointed. Our room was in a second floor and had a very awkward entrance with low beams which were easy to crack your head on. There also seemed to be some gaps around doorways meaning moths etc. could get in. The shower was difficult to figure out and didn’t consistently give hot water. The staff were helpful and the room was comfortable enough, but we’d just hoped for a bit better overall. Also it’s a very bumpy road to get down to the hotel, so location is not ideal.

• Verified traveler (8/5): - Tony and his family are absolutely wonderful. They were extremely helpful when helping my girlfriend and I plan/book the activities in the Santa Elena and Monteverde areas. Breakfast is included here also. They start you off with some fresh fruit, and coffee or orange juice. Next, you choose between scrambled eggs with ham and toast, or one large pancake. Both options are delicious. They also provide a laundry service. $5 per kg. They have a scale that you can use to weigh your clothes. You can decide if you have too much or too little, which is nice if you’re tight on money. They say it’s a 3-hour wash and dry, but I just gave them the whole day. Although the property is quaint there are some precautions. The room I stayed in had issues with moisture in the room. There was a lot of condensation the first night. Additionally, the shower head sprays everywhere, so make sure the shower curtain is pulled tight against the walls! There’s also no AC, which isn’t really needed at that elevation. Lastly, bugs were present in the room. My girlfriend and I are very tolerant of them, so it was mostly okay with us. In summary, it’s a cute little property with EXCELLENT service. However, the room you stay in is a little small and maybe a little too rustic.

• Aaron (10/5): - Tony, his family, and his team were amazing and helpful! Breakfast was delicious! The lodge is situated at the intersection of two beautiful reserves, and is a short walk away from the butterfly gardens and Santa Elena town as well.

• Verified traveler (8/5): - We were told that we could only pay in cash (in dollars or colones). Their conversion rate was extremely questionable and not at all what it should be. We paid in dollars because it ended up being cheaper. Front desk lady didnt even give us change back. breakfast was included starting 6:30. We wanted to make it to the national park at 7, so we were in a rush. They were in no rush and we ended up eating later and didn't make it to the park on time and had to wait 1.5 hours to get in. Otherwise, the place itself was clean. No AC, but we didnt need it when we went.

• corey (10/5): Thanks for everything - Was great place everyone was so nice and the guides they recommend were amazing and def best prices. Breakfast was very good every morning and was so close to things. They gave us a local map of the area and explained where and what everything was.
• Ariel (10/5): Storm hit. - Rained the entire time for the first two days. The owner was wonderfuly helpful, positive and shared information and advice. We had to drive down to San Jose for a medical appointment and returned for an open window to zip line. What a trip
• Anne-Sarah (6/5): - All in all not a bad place to stay but we did have a few things that annoyed us: there was no hot water and barely any water pressure. The faucet in the shower wouldn't close and we had to play with it for 10 minutes at night. Bathroom not renovated at all. What bothered us was that the owner tried to sell us tours (canopy, bridges, ziplines and night tour) in a pushy way, presenting all the attractions before we even had time to rest after the long way there. Nice to get recommendations but no need to push... There was a good breakfast and overall okay. Not best value for money in my opinion.
• Ana (10/5): Great place, personalized service - Tony was a great host, he cooked us breakfast every morning, and gave us information on the local tours and restaurants. He even made the tour reservations on our behalf. The hotel is close to the center of town, and transportation was included with the tours.
• Heather (10/5): Beautiful right on the edge of the rainforest - Tony &his staff are great... Tony was always making jokes with us, even shared his secret recipe for his amazing pancakes. The roomwas small but that was ok because we weren't in it other than getting ready in the mornings & sleeping @ night. Scenary was beautiful, surrounded by amazing green plants everywhere
• Shannon (10/5): Wonderful family-owned place - Our room was clean and the shower was hot! Tony's family was very welcoming to us. It's out of town a little bit, so you'll need a car to get into Monteverde. It's also away from the noise and traffic.
• Annika (10/5): Great for Families! - Dreams Lodge was dreamy and a great value for the price. It's hard to find great rooms for a family of five and we loved our two queens and a single. Tony and his wife take great care and pride in their lodge. We saw about three or four insanely beautiful bird species right on the property. Breakfast was great and the conversation even better. We would definitely recommend it.
