Guest Reviews
- Jonathan (10/5): - Amazing
- Lucien (10/5): Fascinating old building - This is a historic old building located right next to Guy Concordia metro. It is only open for about two months during summer. I stayed there about five times over the years.
- Simon (8/5): - Great value for money, centrally located and easy walking distance to restaurants, shopping, the old town and Mount Royal. But be prepared for a serious dose of college dorm nostalgia.
- David (8/5): - The property is huge and confusing at first regards to room navigation. The bathtubs are slippery...I fell down while taking a shower. But otherwise clean property.
- Réza (2/5): - Worst stay of my life. The room smelled like a mix of mildew and burnt popcorn. The bed was harder than concrete, and the sheets had stains. The pictures online were a complete lie. Never coming back!. Absolutely disgusting. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years, the water barely ran, and there were bugs everywhere. Expedia needs to remove this listing immediately. If you value sleep, hygiene, or your money, avoid this place at all costs. The heater didn’t work, and the staff acted like they didn’t care. I want a full refund. False advertising. This is not a cozy student accommodation—it’s a nightmare. Never again.
- patrick (10/5): - First of all it's an historical building. I love minimalism - and I also like being frugal. So this met my criteria. And you are right downtown by St Catherine St. I wanted to rebook - but it seems they only allow visitor booking in the summer time.
- Robert (4/5): - it was so hot the building and worse in the rooms i could've sleep even with window open there was a fan in the room but it did nothing.
yet the staff down stairs had an AC it was comfortable for them. i wouldn't stay there in the summer not sure about the winter.
- April (6/5): - The location and quiet, beautiful grounds were amazing and felt very safe. The room itself was clean and adequate, not really anything you could call comfortable but very serviceable with a fine bed and ensuite bathroom, The front desk staff were lovely and extremely helpful, as were security staff who seemed to do frequent walkarounds of the rambling building.
- Kim (10/5): Typical dorm room - This is basic accommodation in a spacious dorm room. You have a sink and fridge and a fan. No AC. There are stairs at the entrance. It was clean and quiet.
- Paulina (8/5): - Great rooms, staff, and very clean. No on-site storage for luggage but storage available near by.
- Catina Renea (10/5): - Terrific find. I loved staying on a charming campus in a room with a beautiful tall window. Very helpful checkin staff. Close to BIXI bikes.
- Ewan (6/5): - Felt like the security could be compromised be the lack of security presence around the massive building. The lodgings are in many different wings of the building. There’s a security desk at the entrance but considering the open nature of the washroom and lounges I’d think there might be a patrol every once a while for security reasons. Never seen a security guard other than the front desk, which is isolated from the rooms themselves.
- Wendyam Valentin (10/5): - My stay was great; it was clean, quiet, and close to places like the bus, metro, and restaurants.
- Marc (10/5): - Booked for one night day and was quite surprised how big and spacious room was. Very clean and polite staff would recommend.
- Mdundzi (10/5): - Great staff and good location
- Sebastien (10/5): - .
- Kierra (10/5): - We stayed here for the Canadian Grand Prix weekend and it was an excellent alternative to a hotel or other typical accommodations. Plenty of room, clean washrooms and showers, and great spot for convenience to the metro, shops and dining!
- John (10/5): A dorm...and perfect! - We my wife and I LOVED it here! Highly recommended. This is a college dorm during the school year, and open to rent a room in the Summer. Think "dorm room" and you get the idea. But, it was perfect. Loved the whole experience...no extras that you don't want pay for anyway. And, on the same block and a parking garage that has the cheapest indoor parking that I know of in Montreal...$12 to park overnight. And, they have EV chargers if you have an EV.
Also, on the next block is the metro station, along with some places to go to dinner or drinks. It really is a wonderful place for a basic stay. It's "nothing special," but, that's part of it's charm.
- John (10/5): Will Always Stay Here in the Summer - I love it here. Stayed twice...once by myself and once with my wife. If you want a basic hotel (college dorm during the school year), this is it.
- Fredy (8/5): - Good place and safe
- Julian (8/5): - Our stay was quite good, the room was great for what we needed it for. We did have to checkout early and the staff were excellent at accommodating this request. We were helped by Megan and she was very helpful and made sure everything worked out for us. Overall, the stay was good for OSHEAGA and I would recommend it as somewhere central and close to the metro. One downside that they inform you of before you book is that there was no ac but the included fan in the room works great for cooling the room down at night.
- Vanessa (10/5): - Great downtown location.
Impeccable service from staff at arrival. Easy check out. Spacious room with fridge and big windows. It was nice walking around the big old building. I would definitely go back!
- Georges (10/5): - Easily accessible by public transport. Plenty of restaurants around. Receptionists very helpful and charming.
- Hei Yin (10/5): - This is a dorm, the university leased it out in the summer for travelers. The location is superb, it’s a 5 min walk to the metro and 5-10 min walk to restaurants and shops. The bathroom and rooms are dated, but for the location the pros outweighs the cons.
- Chandrae (10/5): - this is a budget property it's not fancy - don't think it is. but it's great for what it is. i would rather stay here (which i have two years in a row) then pay the crazy high prices other places. the location also is a big plus. found another place for about the same price that has air conditioning, but it was a 20 minute walk to the metro. (no thank you) there are fans in each room an it's a dorm. know that going in and you know what to expect.
one of the security guards was fantastic! remembered us from the year before within in the first minute!
- Gus (10/5): - If you don't want to spend a lot more money just for a hotel, consider Residence Grey Nuns. What it lacks in fancy furniture and fancy lobby is made up in convenience, cleanliness, and a very reasonable price. The staff was very helpful. This hotel is not for everyone, but it is Montreal's BEST bargain for a hotel stay.
- Paul (6/5): - Friendly staff, clean, many washrooms and showers, no A/C so beware on hot days!
- Kristin (8/5): Great stay, except for the bed. - Great location, friendly accommodating staff, clean shared bathrooms. Stayed over August long weekend and was fine without AC. Disappointed the bed was not an actual mattress, but a thick gymnastic mat/foamie. Even for a 138lbs woman, not very comfortable. Would have appreciated knowing this before booking.
- Kelly (10/5): - Perfect for what it is! Enjoyed the beautiful old windows in the room and very walkable.
- Nicholas (10/5): - Perfect location near a Metro stop, shopping, and restaurants. Easy to get anywhere in the city from here.
- Karyn (10/5): - The staff were so lovely! We had a great stay. So convenient to get everywhere and so reasonably priced
- Nikisha (8/5): - Bed was a little too firm for my liking it overall it was a great stay! I definitely think it’s worth the price and wouldn’t hesitate to go back!
- Marcelle (10/5): - good and convenient, very nice staff, nice park, peaceful
- Kimberley (8/5): - Cool old place except for the bathrooms
- Mdundzi (10/5): - Great staff and good location
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don’t stay here - Absolutely disgusting. Rodents, showers don’t work properly. This place should be shut down by city officials. Staff is rude and militant. Area is unsafe. Homeless people everywhere
- SAMANTHA (2/5): - Unfortunately I didn't have a good time here and had to cut my stay short and book elsewhere due to a number of issues. I was very much looking forward to it as well, so it's sad to do this.
1) Mouse in my room, scurried under my bed and I couldn't find it afterwards. Mouse poo along the side of the floor next to my bed as well.
2) Bat flew about 5m from me, indoors in the hallway on the second floor, around 2AM.
3) There was a fire down the street, smoke in my room because no A/C, had to sleep in a mask because the air quality was very poor.
I had to rebook a much more expensive place as it was last minute, and I wouldn't have booked if I knew this was going to be the experience.
- Simon (10/5): - Good size rooms for the solo traveller. In between Guy Concordia and Lucien L'Allier metro stops! Get the convenience of the Green and Orange line.
- Riley (8/5): - Great stay
- terry (2/5): - no cold water for the sink, The cold tap was very hot. The room was very extremely hot and unbearable to sleep due to the heat. The fan didn't help much because of it.
Very noisy, someone or group of people keep slamming doors every 20 mins in the night wich made it hard to sleep.
Maybe upgrading the rooms with air conditioning with the raise of price for the room might make it better.
- Timothy (8/5): Great stay, great location. - Great location, nice room. No air-conditioning but with a cold shower and open the window with the fan it was fine. Bring earplugs.
- Camila (10/5): - Is a good place, the location is perfect and great staff
- Pavel (8/5): - very close to city center
- Amandeep (10/5): - Everything was good but they don’t have air conditioner that’s only drawback they have.
- BERNARD (8/5): - Simple amenities but quiet and clean. Shared bathroom but did not see any other guests. A little warm in the room on hot summer days but a personal fan in every room is available.
- Mdundzi (10/5): - Great staff and good location
- Patricia (10/5): - Loved the location!
- Mary (6/5): - It is a great location at a reasonable price but it is an old building. No air conditioning but a BIG fan was provided which helped but was noisy. I would stay again but this is not like a hotel. That’s why the price is low.
- Kushumesh (2/5): - This is by far the worst hotel/motel I have lived at.
- Wanda (2/5): - The mattress was very, very old and hollowed out so it feels like you are lying on a hard frame
It smelled like body odour. It was very uncomfortable and I hardly slept. The place was noisy with banging noises in the corridors. It is basic and I knew that but the bed shouldn't smell.
- Kaia (6/5): - Staff very friendly and welcoming. Easy check-ins and check outs. Always secured by security at the entrance. Great location, 3-min walk from Metro Guy-Concordia makes for easy travel around the city. Plenty of food options.
The facility itself leaves a lot to be desired. The upper floors are extremely hot and humid, requiring a fan to be blasting and the windows open 24/7. With the windows open at night, it gets very noisy and difficult to sleep.
The showers are terrible. They take about 10 minutes to cool down from being boiling hot and the water pressure isn't great.
Locking the room door was difficult, there is a trick to it which I wasn't aware of until my 2nd day. There are cameras everywhere though.
- Louise (10/5): Un hébergement très convenable à bas prix - Le prix, l'emplacement, nous ont convenu parfaitement. Nous n'avions pas besoin du confort d'un bon hôtel standard.
- Frédérique (8/5): - Would come back
- Silvano (6/5): - Not so good
- Lukas (10/5): - Overall a great experience, staff let us check in early which allowed us to take a nap and rejuvenate a bit. No real complaints. Just note that it's a bit warm because there is no AC. Pillows a bit uncomfortable and the floors are very creaky so you can hear people walking around. These things were priced in as it was $135 a night, somewhat cheap for Montreal and the location was great (everything we wanted to do was walking distance).
- Anastasiya (10/5): - Taking into the consideration that this was a mix between hostel and a hotel and the price for the location is beyond amazing. Great for those who are on thr budget! The only thing is showers.... one of the showers had burning hot water no matter what.... but that's okay since there are still 2 more.... oh and a bit awkward to use the same bathroom with shared toilet and showers with men and women. Being a woman it toom me a few days to get used to being in the same room for such private purpose while men were in it at the same time 😫
- a (8/5): - Very hot and humid in summer, it would be great if cooler could be provided.
- Farzaneh (8/5): - I thought it was a good hotel with good staff and location! Just keep in mind that there is no ac.
- Kai (10/5): - Super friendly staff but the establishment is very dirty, dust everywhere
- Payal (10/5): - Very comfortable and quite stay middle of downtown.
- John (10/5): Had a great time at grey nuns clean/historic stay - Don’t have ac as it’s an old building can’t be retrofitted but u are given a fan worked great-great old building right off at Catherine’s safest secure/sharedbathroom was not a problem very clean staff pleasant great for younger crowd but I’m 67 and met a few seniors there/-I-will return
- Patrick (10/5): - Great place!
- Mdundzi (10/5): - Great staff and good location to visit downtown Montreal at an affordable price.
- Katherine (6/5): - I thought it was a reasonable choice until I went to use the co-ed bathroom and discovered a male using the toilet who hadn’t shut the privacy door. I felt uncomfortable and uneasy. We were supposed to come back to Montreal after a side trip to QC but promptly cancelled the return stay at Concordia.
- Tamara (8/5): - The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. I did not care for the coed bathrooms and would have preferred a private bathroom instead. Thank goodness the rooms were for single occupancy with a private sink, if not I would have probably stayed at another hotel.
- Anna (6/5): - It was incredibly hot in the room, and while it was nice that they gave a fan, the fan was possibly the weakest fan I’ve ever encountered. And the shared showers and bathrooms were clean and nice but the shower water was extremely scalding— literally could not get any cold to come out of the tap. So that made showering impossible; even if it wasn’t so hot outside/ in the room the water would have been too hot to stand under. I washed using a washcloth in the sink in the room.
- Alan (10/5): - Great front desk staff
- Tatiana (10/5): - This stay was great for a solo traveller!! I was hesitant about the shared bathrooms/showers but everything was very clean and i never ended up running into anyone else. It was nice and quiet, a bit hot as its an old building without AC but that didnt bother me personally. Would absolutely stay again! Staff was incredibly friendly.
- Bertha (8/5): - The residence of the Grey Sisters is ideally located, very accessible to transit, good shopping.
- MIN (2/5): - Super hot, no air conditioning, only fans.
- Heiner (8/5): - Rooms are a. Little out dated, sink in my room was pitted, no AC, mo TV, but tis was expected for a dorm room.
- Tanya (6/5): - Adequate but did not like the area
- Mdundzi (10/5): - Great staff and good location
- Ekaterina (10/5): - Great location!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great budget friendly option! - It's a great affordable safe option in the heart of Central Montreal near everything. It's budget friendly and no thrills.
- Katherine (6/5): - Male guests should be reminded of co-ed bathrooms. Walked in on a dude using the facilities and hadn’t shut the door. Very off-putting for a female guest.
- D Christopher (4/5): - An old (very old) convent residence now operated by a public university. No AC or TV few amenities, mini soap bar, tube of shampoo and bar fridge towel were it. Paid extra for grungy private bathroom with broken light and mirror. Only $100 less than something good.
- Verified traveler (6/5): College dorm - This is a very basic college dorm. A large room with sink and comfortable bed but no frills.
- Mdundzi (10/5): - Great staff and good location to visit downtown Montreal.
- Antonio (8/5): - Great spot. No AC but if you can handle it. Its worth it. Also the shared bathroom was never an issue. If you really want an in suite bathroom then pay the extra 40 a night. But 80 a night so worth it.
- Gebriel (8/5): - Location and reception was great! The big issue was no air conditioning and private washroom !!
- Johan (10/5): - Excellent space. Great for over night stays. Plus they have vending machines !
- Annessa (10/5): - For the price and location you can’t complain. It’s clean, comfortable, and accessible. No frills. But, hey. It’s a good stay. And a gorgeous building.
- CONNIE (4/5): - not recommend during the hot summer as there is no AC. I had to keep the window opened, but very small flies came through the window screen, I got rashes from these flies. and the fan was very noisy. Could not sleep at all during the night, so I had to cancel the remaining nights. However, the location is very good and convenient.
- denise (10/5): - I said it was a nice stay! nice staff helping iun alla occasion; nice place high ceilings, old buiding.
- david (8/5): - Simple and well organised
- Michael (8/5): - Inexpensive college dorm rooms that are used as hotel-type housing while school is out for the summer. Good workspace area with good lighting for doing deskwork. Conveniently located within easy walking distance of Metro stop and many dining establishments.
- Anurag (8/5): - Good things:
- location (close to public transit and St. Catherine street)
- value for money
- Check-in time is like 3 oo 4 PM. I reached around 12 noon and yet the room was ready for me.
- Staff is fluent in English.
What's not great?:
- no attached bathroom/toilet
- No AC
- No option to get the room cleaned while you are staying.
- I requested they keep my suitcase (since checkout time is 11 AM and my train departure was at 6 PM) and I'll come collect it later in the day. I was told that's not an option either.
- Mdundzi (10/5): - Great staff and good location
- Donna (8/5): - I felt very secure at
- Frank (10/5): - For the the location and price, it was excellent. Contrary to some negative reviews, everything worked great, was very clean and the staff is super friendly and helpful. I’ll be back
- Andrew (4/5): - During the summer, the water only had one temperature setting, which was the maximum heat. Use of the showers and sinks was uncomfortable as a result.
- Frédérick (8/5): - Trop chaud pas, ventilateur inefficace
- Taran (8/5): - Like the spaciousness of the room
- John (10/5): - Friendly staff, beautiful property and right in the heart of the city.
- michelle (10/5): - Excellent location, although it's student accommodations, given the cheap rate, I would say it's good value for money.
- Paule (8/5): - No cold water in the Room.
- Shawn (10/5): - Great value versus pricey competing locations during Formula One Grand Prix du Canada weekend
- Fred (8/5): - Check in went smoothly. Staff friendly. Place very secure with pass control features. In an ideal location in Montreal. Short walk to main train station. Rooms were basic university residence standard. My room had a sink and towel/facecloth/soap/shampoo was provided. A lot of the facilities are "co-ed". Sound travels well in halls, but was not a problem during my stay. Nothing fancy but very good value for the price. (hotels in area were 3-5x the price).
- George (6/5): - The only issue that I had was with the showers. The showers are shared and I do not have an issue with that because I knew that when I booked the room. The problem for me was that the water temp went from too hot to 3rd degree burns. There were 3 showers in the area of my room that were all the same and when I was leaving I checked another shower in a different area and it was the same too.
