Guest Reviews
- James (10/5): - Peaceful quiet and lovely views from the balcony
- Chilo (7/5): - Le calme, le jardin, la gentillesse des voisins.
- catherine (8/5): - Emplacement idéal pour les visites de ce côté de la Dominique. La petite ville est très chouette et les plages aussi
- Louise (1/5): - Internet worked. There was a very small garden, clothesline and pegs. The fridge worked. There was a gas stove and a box of matches. Upset by the discrepancy between online description and reality, I wanted to leave almost immediately but owner's wife persuaded (?) me to stay and pay for the 6 nights I had booked. I left after the first night. It was that bad! It's the first time I've ever done that. I've forfeited over $300 US, which I can't afford, but it's great to be out of there.
Not as described, unless you believe a cottage to be a shack with a corrugated iron lean-to bathroom. It's small, lacking many useful everyday items such as washing-up bowls or plugs for sinks. No cupboards, shelves or rail if you want to unpack,. A multitude of beribboned ornaments crowd every flat surface. No glass in the windows where badly fitting shutters have to be closed whenever you go out and overnight, making the place dark and stuffy.
There's no space for a toothmug, let alone a washbag in the corrugated iron bathroom where tiny frogs are among the overnight visitors. The photos may explain why I found it hard to believe I was paying almost $100 a night.

- Adrian Moure (9/5): Cozy and clean apartment - A beautiful and clean apartment. Valina was super nice, provided coffee, cacao, milk.. for breakfast
- Dmytro (8/5): -
- Doriane (6/5): - Très bon accueil l'appartement tres mignon et spacieux Manque d'équipements pour la partie cuisine
- Katharina (10/5): Place I recommend!! Nice cabin ina nice garden and very close to the north coast of Dominica - Very nice cabin. Really intimate and in the middle of the garden. Very nice hosts !
- Bruno (7/5): -
- David (9/5): Superb - What a great place to stay! Valina is a great host. It was amazing to stay in a Ti Kai. This building was moved from another area and restored. I read about this by accident in a book called 'Still Standing'.There is no ac, but there is a powerful fan and with the windows open, you get a great through breeze. The garden is fantastic and full of birds: tea/ beer in the garden after a day sightseeing was fab! Lots of things to see nearby with the Portsmouth/ Marigot bus stopping at the bottom of the road. Thanks for a great visit. Nothing
- Trond (9/5): Old charming cottage - This is an old cottage in a garden ten minutes walk from central Calibishie. It is full of charm and with attentive and kind hosts. It is very nicely located for exploring the north of Dominicia.
- Alison (10/5): Lovely historical cottage, generous thoughtful hosts, nearby beautiful beach with amazing food -
- Igor (10/5): A lovely place with friendly hosts. - A very beautiful place, a little Paradise. The distance to the beaches.
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional - I was at Jacoway Inn because I had to unexpectedly stay in Calibishie an extra night due to illness. It was perfect for that. Gorgeous grounds and view from balcony. Room is large and airy and had everything I needed. I appreciated the noon checkout. And the guava tea helped my stomach! Grateful for the kind hospitality and relaxing stay.
- Kayla (10/5): I had the best time at Jacoway Inn! Valina worked incredibly hard to make sure I was comfortable - I loved everything about my stay! Nothing at all
- Linda (8/5): Little house on the priarie - Clean, furnished fit for purpose, decor moderate standard, in good condition; comfortable bed and pillows; reasonably quite (dog barking); lovely outdoor surroundings; garden patio; garden looks well maintained; kitchen equipment readily available and clean. Close to Main Street, which has a ray of restaurants, grocery stores, ATMs and walking distance to other amenities such as Red Rock, Red Rock Cuisine, pointe Baptist beach and the chocolate factory. We did take a short cut! if you’re prepared to be like the locals for a day. Some areas were muddy, slippery and uphill. We were very surprised how close and quick we got there. The hill to get to the property was steep as described and tiring. However, we knew before hand what we signed up to. It was still a shock and tiring but we didn’t let that spoil our hols.
The Shower was a let down but understand it was no fault to the owners. I was brought up in DA so I understood and knew how to adjust. However, my partner he found it first shocking, as well as a nuisance, but we turned a negative to a positive. Unfortunately, it was basin wash for the duration. The toilet due to no water, again we had to fill up bottles from kitchen sink to use to be able to flush. Owner had left a few filled bottles. My recommendation was that it should not be let until fix because the next holiday makers may not be so understandable.
- Kelly (10/5): Beautiful garden and property, quiet and peaceful, close to town and great beaches. - Great place, beautiful area, close to town, nice host!
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Toby (8/5): Very good -
- Jardis (6/5): Landscape beautiful, studio clean and new. No food, but adequate kitchen. - NO BREAKFAST!!!
NO VISA.
NO ICE Website needs updating. No pool. What beach ?
Did get ph # for taxi , invaluable.
- Spencer (10/5): Exceptional - Great!
- Barbara (6/5): Basic but nothing exceptional - The location is very convenient. Close to beautiful beaches and a small town with nice bars and restaurants. The owner has been very flexible with our booking that we changed twice and she was very friendly. The house has potential it has a big room with a balcony that has a beautiful view especially at night. But overall the place is in need of a good clean and some upgrade in painting etc. The bed was really uncomfortable and it was very hot without airco.
- Margaret (8/5): I would consider staying here again, only if the neighbor’s dog did not bark constantly. - The apartment was great! It was an upper level of a duplex. There were windows on all four sides that I kept open all day and all night.
The building is surrounded by trees and bushes and flowers so you almost feel like you’re in the woods. Sitting on the balcony was very pleasant. Unfortunately, the next-door neighbors have a barking dog that barked on and off throughout the day and the evening. So that almost defeated the purpose of living in this otherwise very pleasant environment away from the main street.
One other drawback is that the property does not accept credit cards - only cash. The ATM machine at the airport was not working the day I arrived and so I had to spend a lot of time in the beginning looking for a working ATM.
- Eirann (8/5): Charming garden stay close to the town - Nice view and quiet with small kitchenette in the room, friendly and communicative owner Breakfast is no longer included because ownership recently changed, which we were looking forward to
- Jeanne (8/5): Very good -
- Ludovic (10/5): Exceptional - This place is stunning, very beautiful and relaxing.
Carol is a great host, very welcoming and available to help.
The breakfasts are delicious. I had a great time. Nothing.
- Harrina (10/5): - The property was well kept and had everything we needed and then some. Carol Anne has thought of everything to make a guest stay pleasant, convenient and comfortable.
The garden and gazebo are beautifully kept and manicured. Perfect for a scrumptious breakfast setting, which we received !! A healthy vegetarian breakfast with fresh local produce. Fresh bread, juices, tea and jam.
The property is easy to find with brightly painted sign posts along the road. To go with Carol Ann and Nick’s welcome.
We shall be returning !!
- Bren (9/5): Superb - Location is incredible, close to town but still up in the hill with great views. The host is really kind and makes breakfast in the morning. She made our stay really easy and comfortable and would stay again.
- G. (7/5): Good - Location was off the beaten path ..... Surrounded by a beautiful garden
Breakfast was delicious!!
- Matthieu (9/5): Superb - The room is in a great and beautiful garden. Location was near to visit red rock, number one, Batibou beach, chaudiere pool... Caroll gives good advice to visit other place. She is a beautiful, kind and energic person. A big big up for the Breakfast!! We enjoyed thanks!
- Gizelle (7/5): Good -
- Jinsong (10/5): Cute cottage with superb breakfast and amazing host - Cute little cottage. The host is very thoughtful-two huge bottles of water in the fridge means everything to the exhausted travelers, especially after the boiling lake hike.
The breakfast is flawless! We had fresh juice, fresh coffee, toasted bread with butter, cheese omelette, home fries, veggies and fruits. What’s more can you expect?
Lastly, the host is very welcoming. Although it is a short stay, we had a great conversation with Carol. She’s such a lovely lady. Wish her the best for her future plans! There is no AC in the room. However, it is compensated by the fan by the bed, which works surprisingly well for the sleep.
- Norman (10/5): Grace's Romantic Cottage at the Jacoway Inn - Carol Ann was an amazing and charismatic host! She was extremely knowledgeable about the culture, environment, area, people, and best places to visit and eat. She could have her own podcast! We stayed in her historic 110-year-old Ti Kai Cottage, complete with a kitchen stocked with assorted teas, a parlor with reading materials (including a book "Still Standing" that details the history of the Ti Kais), a cozy room with mosquito netting surrounding the bed, a bathroom with a wonderfully warm shower, and all the mangos you can eat! Dominica is a small island with astounding ecological variety, a creative and resourceful population, and a myriad of experiences to savor and enjoy.

This was my first trip to the Caribbean since my grandfather emigrated in 1907, and we will return!
- Carly (8/5): - We only stayed for the once night but it was a really pretty location and super laid back. Breakfast was lovely with local touches and the host is really friendly and kind.
- Melanie (10/5): Up above the trees in the hills, lays an oasis of a home away from home where nature is your sound! - From the moment I arrived, Carol-Anne was amazing. Helpful, friendly, smiling, energetic and made sure I had all my questions answered. Breakfast in the morning was lovely and hit the spot of western breakfast! The setting was lovely as well. The apartment (upper floor) was well provided with towels, soap, kitchen needs, mosquito nets and a lovely view from the balcony! Beyond the host's control was the road coming up to Jacoway Inn. Care must be taken as there are a few large potholes. The other issue, also beyond the host's control was the Wi-Fi dropping for the day. She did make a phone call to check on the status, and shared with me some times in the island it goes like that.
- Chan (10/5): Exceptional - Visa card was hard to take out of money the owner helped tremendously in lending the taxi cost and me paying her back once I was able to take out cash!
- Stuart (8/5): Very good - Quiet location in rural Dominica. Not far from the village or the sea. Some quirky items. Great outdoor space. Attentive and helpful host. Property decor and furnishings are looking a bit tired. Difficult to get a lower temperature at night with just fans, but it is the Caribbean. Several pieces of furniture could do with tightening up/ screwing together.
- Djana (9/5): Fall asleep with the sounds of nature - Very cozy place, tucked in on a hill at the end of a street. Very quiet. Loved the sounds of nature. Hosts are very 'invisible' in a good way. Beautiful garden around the property and a great patio to hang out. Excellent breakfast and awesome natural juices served. I really enjoyed my stay here. Perhaps a few items (such as a bedside reading lamp) could use some updating and dusting, but all in all, it has a very quaint charm, sort of like staying at your grandma's who happens to live in the Caribbean :-)
- Carrington (10/5): Exceptional - The breakfast was superb!! The room was large with a nice balcony to sit on as well as a lovely outdoor area. Carol Ann was the perfect host - kind, friendly with a delightful personality.
- Nataliya (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great - room, location, breakfast, and a lovely host. Thank you!
- Ben (10/5): - Lovely stay in a calm place and a great host
- Brazier (9/5): Superb -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Great airy studio and balcony in an excellent location. Carol-Anne and Nicky were lovely, the breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. All good!
- Elliot (10/5): Enjoy your time with Carol - Wonderful host provides very comfortable cabin with terrace in rainforest garden setting. View the ocean on clear days.
very well prepared breakfast is included
3 burner cooktop refrigerator.
It’s about 15 minute down to town with stores restaurants and large Chinese construction trucks.
- Robin (8/5): Very good -
- Silas (10/5): - The Inn Keeper, the breakfast, and the amenities made this property wonderful.
- philip (8/5): Probably the best guest house in Callibishie - This is probably the best guest house to explore the Callibishie area. Cary Anne was an excellent host although sadly she was ill and wasn't around that much. Property was inland about 1km although the access road is passable for a hire car. The buildings and facilities are basic but very clean and serviceable - get used to ceiling fans because there is no air conditioning here - just the sound of the rainforest at night. The best breakfast we have had in Dominica was served outside in a gazebo. Booking was a little difficult as you couldn't pay though Hotels.com but the host direct - cards were being unresponsive and then eventually a completely different amount was charged compared to the invoice. Overall a very pleasant stay - thank you Cary Ann - hope you are better soon.
- Peter (10/5): Part of the village, this is a wonderful way to get to know genuine Dominica. Great hosts - The location is up a high ridge above the village of Calibishie. For the island, the settlement has a wide variety of interesting places to eat and drink and the hosts are happy to recommend their favourites. The room was very spacious and had a very genuine island feel with its furnishings and decorations. Breakfasts served outside in the garden (except when raining heavily) were always interesting with island fruits, juices, breads and jams with other goodies. As one expects in Dominica, the garden was lush with interesting plants and one feels safely integrated with the local community when staying here which was my main reason for choosing to stay here. The water dropped out for a while, but that is an island issue and no fault of the Inn.
- Debra (8/5): Very good - Perfect for the relaxation i needed. Everyone very welcoming. Easy to get too various sights and villages. Would certainly recommend, thank you Carol-Ann & Nicky.
- Brian (4/5): - In regard to always being fair, please note this review is only for the cottage & not the house as pictured for this add. I am sure the house property is nice. We booked the cottage as that was all that was available close to the airport, but we did not expect issues, but unfortunately, we were not pleased & very uncomfortable. This cottage felt like a pod converted into a tiny home. The makeshift windows had no screens & this caused major problems as due to not having AC, the place was boiling hot (owner had ceiling fans that did not provide relief from the heat in the daytime), the home was suffocating thus you had no other option but to open the windows or pass out. With that said, all of the bugs flew inside & the mosquitos bit us up really bad all over our body. It was a horrible ordeal & I am still covered with bite marks & soaking in aloe to try to remove the now blemishes all over my skin. I paid $180US for 2 nights & was not pleased & the owner even overbilled Expedia. Also, due to the tin roof construction, when it rained it caused an echo effect so it was so loud with every rain drop & ruined my sleep when it rained. There were other issues but I will leave that alone for the main concerns. We left the home clean as you should & we were thankful to go home. Pros-The owner's staff made delicious homemade pineapple juice for breakfast & the owner made great pineapple jam.The yard is beautiful by the house rental not the cottage,25-30 minute walk to close restaurant.
- Fernanda (10/5): - I like the staff approach on arrival, very friendly, services was excellent.
Property was clean, very nice just what I wanted I like the quiet ness .
I would recommend it to families and friends.
- Stephanie (9/5): Superb - It's a lovely small house with all cute inside 🤗🥰
- Pascale (9/5): Superb - Carol Ann and Nic, our hosts were great.
The breakfast was yummy and the ambiance was private and no stress.
The fans in the room helped to keep us cool.
The water waiting on the the fridge was appreciated, and the map and tour book to wet our appetite for our trip was fun. Hard to find at night. But that's on us.
- Kestutis (9/5): Superb - Great place to stay, all the amenities and equipment you'd need for self catering etc. Amazing lush garden with swing chair perfect to relax in the evenings.. This is also where the breakfast is served by Carol Ann and her small team and the breakfast every morning was simply amazing.. Served in fresh air, different every morning, delicious every time..highly recommended. The house is also very close to some great locations to visit, especially worth mentioning the Batibou Beach.
- David (8/5): The accommodation was set in beautiful countryside. - The breakfasts in the morning were exceptional. Every day something different and all very tasty enjoyed on the verandah in the tropical gardens. Lack of air con made the room a little hot, but it was manageable with ceiling fans.
- J (10/5): I had a lovely stay! - Carol-Ann was a lovely host and this was a great start to my Dominica holiday. I'd recommend this place to other travelers for sure!
- Sneddon (9/5): Great place to enjoy this part of Dominica! - CarolAnne is a wonderful host who went out of her way to make my stay comfortable. Always upbeat, fun and interested, she keeps the property beautifully, wonderful garden and clean comfortable space. Would highly recommend!
- Jana (10/5): Very nice owner and excelent breakfast - The breakfast was exceptional. Each morning we had warm meal, meat, fried bananas, salad, juice, we were ready for the whole day. The owner is very nice lady, taking care of her guests. Nearby are many interesting places: beautiful Batibou Bay, Red rocks and chocolate factory with very good dark chocolate. Sometimes was a little problem with water, but only very shortly.
- Nicolas (10/5): A wonderful home set in lush surroundings - We had a lovely stay. Set in lush surroundings with a view of the sea, we warmly recommend the Jacoway Inn for your stay. The host Carol Ann will make you feel at home with her warm and energetic style and help you find your way around. The location is close to a number of beautiful places such as the red rocks or several beaches.
- Paul (9/5): Excellent, homely and very good value for money. - Lovely place and a fantastic garden breakfast. Carol Ann the owner is a really interesting character and we spent a lovely half an hour or so chatting with her over breakfast. Her place is wonderful and heartily recommended. The only small negative is it’s an effort to get to by foot, which we ended up doing as we didn’t have transport. You can probably pay the bus driver to drive you up the hill for a little extra. Really not a big deal though.
- Bryant (6/5): Pleasant -
- Julie (7/5): Good -
- Nellwood (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything! We stayed in the trading wooden cottage which was very charming. It's surrounded by very lovely and well maintained gardens. It has plenty of space and had everything we needed. Carol-Ann was a fantastic host who provided amazing breakfasts made with all the seasonal local fruits. She helped us with what we could do and see around the area and arranged a lift one day for a very good price. She always made sure we had everything we needed and was happy to chat about the island and area. We would definitely stay again and recommend. Nothing, everything was great!
- Madhavi (10/5): Super duper expenience - Carol, was one of the best hosts I have come across and a super guide. The ambience of this location is the highlight. It’s perched in nature, between mango, banana and coconut trees. It just feels very serene all around.
- Esther (9/5): Superb -
- Le (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (10/5): We wish we would have stayed longer. - Everything! The owner was great and super fun to chat with about the island and life in general. We stayed in the traditional old wooden house which was perfect for us. Wonderful breakfast as well!
- savanna (10/5): - i enjoyed the environment we were in. very peaceful and green as expected from the calibishie area. the hostess is so lovely and the service was great. i really have no complaints, other than that i wish there was a microwave to heat any cold food we might have, but other than that, my mother and i loved it. i hope to go back soon.
- Dian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (7/5): Fascinating area to explore around Calibishie - Breakfasts were delicious. View into the garden from the balcony was lovely. The area of Calibishie is a real gem to visit especially for anyone who has read Black and White Sands.
- Sharon (9/5): Relaxing, peaceful and safe. - Huge and absolutely delicious breakfast every single day! There was no need to purchase lunch any day which saved us some money
Our hostess was genuinely warm and friendly. She was always available but never intrusive.
The landscape is very well done. Nicky has achieved a miniature botanical garden in Calibishie.
Nigel is the driver recommended by Carol Ann. A patriot extraordinaire who knows his homeland like the back of his hand. Tell him your preferences and he knows just where to take you. Cannot think of anything.
- Desmar (10/5): Perfect!!!!!! - We came in from St.Lucia.Miss Ann is an awesome host.very pleasant super accomodative and had the best recomendations.her breakfast was the highlight.everything homemade, tasty and on time.she set us up with a taxi Nigel who was by far the best taxi driver ever.He was fun knowledgeable took us site seeing dinner and evening late night entertainment.WE LOVED HIM!!. WHEN WE RETURN NEXT YEAR WE ARE DEFINATELY GOING BACK TO JACOWAY INN!!!! #758LOVE
- Dian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shannon (8/5): Quaint Cottage in the North of Dominica - We stayed in a very cute and quaint refurbished traditional Dominican wooden cottage, which had an added kitchen and bathroom. The location was excellent in which to see the north of the island. The host, Carol Ann, was extremely friendly and helpful. AND she was a fabulous cook who served sumptuous breakfasts each morning! The was a bit of a musty smell when we first arrived.
- Kristoffer (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location, fantastic accomodation and the most welcoming, helpful and hospitable host. Been a true pleasure to spend time here. Highly recommended! Thank you so much
- Nickcie (10/5): Beautiful - The location was wonderful, lovely floral garden and nature Wifi was a bit difficult to connect but overall the experience was great 👍 👌
- Marie-Pascale (10/5): - We had a great stay in the cute little Cottage! Carol is just so lovely and welcoming! The gardens are beautiful and the neighbourhood quiet. (Just know that the windows in the Cottage don’t have screens and we ended up having a few mosquito bites even with the net above the bed.)
Thank you for everything Carol!
- Claire (10/5): Best Inn and town in Dominica - A perfect apartment with everything you need. A short walk to a sandy beach, shops, restaurants and bars. Maggie is a lovely, accomodating and kind host, and her fresh breakfasts are absolutely delicious. I highly recommend a visit to Calibishie and stay at this Inn! I came back twice during my hike across Dominica
- Kadija (6/5): - Breakfast was good. The room was located close to the airport and sites like the red rocks and a chocolate factory were near. It seems difficult to get to without a rental car. We didn't like that there was an electrical problem but I imagine it will be fixed soon.
- Todd (10/5): Wonderful hospitality with a view! - Jacoway Inn was a cozy spot to spend a final night closer to the airport, but it would have been great to chill for longer in picturesque Calibishie. The unit is walkable to restaurants, bars, and beaches in town with a pretty view over the gardens towards the water. Carol Ann's hospitality and tasty breakfast made me feel like a long lost family member rather than a random traveler, and she helped set up an airport transfer. Very pleasant stay!
- P&J (10/5): - Were in the second floor room. Beautiful views from the balcony. Lovely gardens. Great breakfasts every morning in an open air gazebo.
- Paul (10/5): First class customer service - Carol was a fabulous host - she completely looked after my needs from start to finish. The grounds have gorgeous gardens that are really well kept and the location is ideal for getting around easily by car, bus or on foot.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Carol Ann has an amazing place and location. We stayed in Grace’s Cottage and loved it. Was a little old house built over 100 year ago, Carol had found it and with the help of some very hard working locals Carol moved it to her property. Once there she worked very hard at restoring the old house and building a kitchen and bathroom additions on to the house. They did an incredible job and the house looks amazing. We looked forward to waking up each day to hear the birds chirping, having coffee at our little bistro table saying good morning to Waggs, Carols little pooch, carol and Nicky worked very hard at preparing a breakfast fit for a king, was so delicious and filling it would last you almost all day. Carol has a very unique personality, is very kind, generous with her time and very helpful with introducing us to Nigel George, a very good and informative guide of Dominica, he has endless amounts of knowledge of the island, the history and a very good guide for hiking many of Dominica’s nature trails. Carol also introduced us to a few local restaurants in Calibishe that have great food and service. My wife and I would highly recommend staying with Carol Ann any time your in Dominica....you will be pleasantly surprised and well looked after while staying there. One thing to add, if your walking to Jacoway its a bit of a hike up a steep hill to get to Carols, we’ve put in a request to put a buzzer at the bottom of the hill so we can get a shuttle ride up to Jacoway haha.
- Erica (10/5): Amazing bed and breakfast full of charm - The Jacoway Inn is simply incredible. We stayed in the lover's cottage which was an original house refitted for guests that had absolutely everything we needed and was also so incredibly well decorated and adorable, beautiful and cozy! Also the hosts were super helpful and welcoming, offered great local tips, and made amazing, delicious breakfasts (the best coconut cake I've ever had!). It was one of our most favorite places we've ever stayed and we highly recommend!
- john (10/5): Wonderful surprise. - Nothing to say but nice things. First of all from the airport to the hotel, the people here in this tiny country are so friendly. The airport is very close which is definitely a plus. The host is wonderful and is an awesome cook. The room feels like home away from home. I will stay here in the future. Try it out, you will not be disappointed.
