Guest Reviews
- Amy (10/5): - Amazing!! So much fun! Pool and property was great!
- Glenn (6/5): - Cabin was smaller than expected and bed was very uncomfortable. Kitchen was minimalistic but adequate. Two of the four rotating front desk staff spoke fluent English but the other two spoke almost no English (and I speak very little Spanish). The grounds are quite hilly but fairly small so that was not an issue. The grounds are also quite beautiful with a wide variety of plants and the gorgeous bougainvillea I have ever seen shaped into a 10-ft tall tree. Breakfast is available for charge but must be reserved in advance. The food was quite good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful place - Very pleasant stay, beautiful place and wonderful hosts.
- Margaret (8/5): - We had a nice stay in this property. Nice cozy bed, smart TV, kitchen (microwave, 2 ring stove, fridge, sink, pots, pans, cutlery, cutting board, and such), bathroom, and sitting area both inside and outside.
What makes this accommodation special is the family thatt run it. Melissa is at the front desk 12 hours a day, and she speaks fluent English and is extremely helpful. I asked her lots of questions about the different things to do in the area and she was happy to answer them, even though she was not getting any extra fees. The best information she gave to me was that you can take the public bus from town to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve (800 colones or $2.30 CDN each way which was much much cheaper than a taxi estimated to cost $29 CDN each way).
Other family members were also helpful. We had trouble turning on the stove and her brother Tony helped out and her husband installed a new one. It was all done quickly and with care.
A small disappointment was that there was no shampoo in the bathroom.
Please note that this property is not right in Santa Elena. It requires a 20-minute walk into town, much of it uphill. There is a small grocery store right across the street from the property, but the larger stores are definitely a walk away.
- Jessica (8/5): - Beautiful grounds and friendly staff
- Wayne (8/5): Great “little house” and super staff. Bad wifi - Lovely and large cabana with kitchen, table, etc. the staff was impeccable in taking care. Unfortunately the wifi is yo-yo like and we had no hot water due to a malfunction. It took a few days to rectify and then we got warm water.
- Carlos (10/5): Get away in nature in your own space - Our stay at this cottage in Monteverde was incredibly relaxing. It had everything we needed, including a nice kitchen, and offered a quiet, comfortable retreat. We especially loved the natural surroundings, with a beautiful 2km network of nature paths right on the property—perfect for peaceful walks. The owner/manager was friendly and very helpful, adding to the overall wonderful experience. The only downside was that the Wi-Fi wasn’t very reliable, but everything else more than made up for it. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind in nature!
- Ilene (10/5): - The property is beautiful with some trails to hike. Plus, they continuously feed the birds so there are beautiful birds around frequently.
- Charles (10/5): - The property was very well maintained. We saw dozens of different birds from our cabin. The nature trail was exceptional. All of the staff from reception to hospitality were warm and sincere in their desire to help us enjoy the stay.
- Ravinder (8/5): - Spacious with lot of bedrooms, clean eventhough a little older property. Didn't feel fresh.
- Carol (10/5): - Great people & places
- Theresa (8/5): - The staff is amazing and extremely helpful. Our cabin overlooked the trees with birds galore. Plenty of trails around the property with a fish hatchery, flowers, fruit, etc. we opted for breakfast the first day but didn’t realize we were to tell them on the next day. Not sure what happened. Defiant would stay again. Pool was freezing so we couldn’t enjoy it very much when we were there.
- Laura (10/5): - The owners were lovely and gave us a free upgrade to a 2 bedroom cabin which was ideal for us with 2 young children. It had a well equipt kitchen. We did have a few ants coming in but when we told the owner they came down to spray the cabin.
Great having a pool at the property for unwinding after a busy day in nature.
The town was a 5 minute drive and it was really easy and cheap to get taxis there.
Would definitely recommend staying here.
- Danniel (8/5): - Nice property and amenities. Great staff. Rooms don’t have AC. Even during spring it was pretty warm inside.
- Patty (10/5): - Loved the grounds very pretty .Tony Staff was very helpful
- Aaron (10/5): - We enjoyed our short stay at this property. The nature hike was educational - I think we even saw a Quetzal. Kitchen was well equipped but we didn’t really get a chance to use it. We were able to sit out on our quiet deck to watch the stars and the birds in the morning. Staff were very kind.
quiet
- Jerry (4/5): - Check in was quick and easy and the host was friendly and knowledgeable.
The cabin, however, was in need of refurbishing. While it was quite clean inside, one bathroom smelled so strongly of mold that we could not use it. Fortunately we had booked a larger cabin than we needed (it was the only unit available when we booked) so it had two bathrooms, otherwise we would have had to find alternate accommodations.
It appears that the establishment reinvests little in their facilities as this cabin was very rough. The mattress and pillows were ancient and lumpy and the place was rustic to the point of shabby. The kitchen and bathroom sinks had no hot water taps, only the shower had hot water.
I cannot recommend this place to others.
- Bonnie (10/5): - Owners were very friendly and helpful. Cababas comfortable and clean with all we needed.
- Scott (10/5): - Our cabin was private with nature views and lots of birds to look at. Occasionally at night you would hear dogs barking. But it was not too excessive.
- Luke (10/5): Best place to stay in Monteverde - Melissa met us and was really friendly and helpful. Showed us to our lodge and gave some information about the grounds including the resident sloth. She also provided some helpful information about visits the cloud forest.
Amazing property which you could walk around for about 40 minutes. We saw all sorts of wildlife.
The lodges was very clean and had everything you needed to cook.
It is about a 20 minute walk from Santa Elena up a steep hill but a taxi is cheap if you don’t want to walk.
This was our favourite place to stay in Costa Rica and would recommend everyone to stay here. Watching the hummingbirds on our balcony was a great highlight from our stay.
- Richard (10/5): - Cabanas La Pradera was terrific in every way. Clean, comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Large windows (which were unbelievable clean!!) allowed for great views to the surroundings. Melissa was super helpful with helping us organize tours. This place is a bit out of town so guests likely need a car to get around.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay - Very friendly and helpful staff. Close to everything in Monteverde. Beautiful views from the cabin. We really enjoyed our stay.
- Scott (8/5): Comfortable 2 night stay. - Cabin was very clean. Bed was comfortable. Staff very helpful and friendly. Super walking trail with educational pictures and info. Restoring habitat to natural condition. We would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - liked the good location and having our own home
- Annamarie (10/5): - This is my second time staying at this property and will definitely be back. The location is lovely and the staff and very friendly and helpful. You can’t beat the views and beautiful grounds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stunning setting and plenty of room - What a beautiful property! It feels like a 5-star resort with lush landscaping and well-groomed grounds. Amazingly quiet and private. The cabanas (or cabins) are austere with minimal furniture, but clean and very comfortable. Very roomy, with balconies and outside seating. Cabana #9 has the best view! If you're looking for luxury, this is not for you. But the raw beauty of the setting, the spacious cabana, the tranquility, and the wonderful hospitality of Tony and his family is top notch. We were delighted with our stay. There is a fully equipped kitchen, but coffee and tea are not provided. There is a small convenience-type store across the street. Everything else requires a vehicle. We had a rental car and drove 5 minutes to town to restaurants. The zip lines and cloud forest hikes are 15-20 minutes away. Tony and family can direct you to the best spots.
- HB (8/5): - It was a clean and well maintained property for a 2.5 star hotel.
Very quiet. Except when strong winds pick up, as they have a lot of them in that area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The cabañas are beautiful and spacious. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom is big.
- Sherry (8/5): - The rooms had thin walls and the owners had two dogs that barked a lot.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Overall the property is very nice with good upkeep. However, there is no a/c in the cabins which is fine if the wind is blowing and you can have the windows open, and it wouldn't be bad either if there were ceiling fans. The pool was quite dirty and very cold. The property is not located within easy walking distance to Santa Elena so you need a taxi ($4 USD). Having a full kitchen is definitely convenient and much appreciated. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
- Teresa (8/5): - Staff was so friendly, beautiful property. Cute cabins, nicer than expected
- Elissa (10/5): - I normally do not write reviews, but we had such a wonderful stay, felt needed to do so.
The property is quiet, beautiful and relaxing which also attracts a variety of beautiful birds, ( toucans) sloth, butterflies plus even saw a pigmy owl resting in the tree, thanks to the owner showing it to me.
Do not leave home without your binoculars!
The cabins are rustic, clean and delightful. Most evenings we sat outside with a bottle of wine, cheese and bread and enjoyed all the sounds of nature. Don't forget to take advantage of the hot tub as well.
La Pradera is owned and run by family which were wonderful and attentive to your needs. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cabins were very well equipped, bed was comfortable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Monteverde is a beautiful place! Cabanas La Pradera is located in a lovely private area of Monteverde. It was nice to have our own little home to return to after long days of adventuring. While there for 2 days we saw two sloths, a toucan, macaw, and many other birds just outside our door.
The staff were so very nice. The owner even repaired our spare tire for us before we made the drive down the mountain.
Many thanks to Cabanas La Pradera for their hospitality. And thank you Geru for being so welcoming when we arrived.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love that it was right on the beach. Easy walk into town! It was all we needed!
- D (8/5): Cabanas La Pradera - I enjoyed our short stay here at the cabin. The staff was really great and so helpful! They accommodated us because we arrived late due to road conditions etc. Tony was awesome and really sweet. They also had a great hiking trail to explore the families sugarcane and coffee fields.
- Visitor (6/5): Beautiful Grounds but in rooms in need of upkeep - To start with the positives, the landscaping and outdoor areas were beautiful. The owners and staff were fantastic. The owners son checked us in and gave us some wonderful information on the area as was super nice. The breakfast cooked for us was very good! Unfortunately the rooms were very dated and in need of repairs. The shower went from scalding hot to cold very quickly. The kitchen had almost no dishes or silverware. There was no fan in our cabana, with no air conditioner or fan it was very warm and difficult to sleep. This property could be something very special with a little TLC.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cabin with a great view - Very lovely grounds, convenient location, and helpful hosts. Highly recommend this place to others.
- Brigitte (10/5): Amazing place and service!! - Monteverde is a must on a trip to Costa Rica but what made it so special for us was the hospitality of Tony’s family at Cabanas La Pradera. The cabin is spatious, comfortable and on a beautiful, sunny and peaceful property just on the edge of town. Tony made excellent recommendations for canopy tours, night walks, restaurants and parks and he helped us make arrangements for bookings and transportation from the hotel. He and his parents were so gracious when they helped us boost our dead car battery twice and contact the car rental company. We were very grateful for them and our time in Monteverde!
- Karen (10/5): Perfect hideaway - If you are staying in Monteverde and want some out of town peace and quiet, this is the place to be! Individual villa located with plenty of own space in a great area. The people are very friendly and helpful, and even if they don't speak your language that well they really make an effort anyways. We had a lovely breakfast too. And we saw the sloth that was passing on their property and lots of birds. We had a great relaxing stay and would recommend to anyone!
- Lorraine (8/5): Very accommodating hosts - Our hosts were wonderful; took care of booking our tours and calling taxis for us. The only downside to the hotel is location. It is about 1.5 kms from the town of Santa Elena so we usually had to call a cab. We did walk it a couple of times but you have to walk on the side of a narrow gravel road, and the route is quite hilly. I would not recommend walking to the hotel in the dark.
- andrew (10/5): Excellent Lodging ! - Very helpful with tours !
- Carol (10/5): Great place to stay in Monteverde. - Beauty grounds, friendly staff, close to town but far enough away for privacy.
- arne (10/5): Immediately feels like home. - When we arrived Anthony informed us we had been upgraded to his favorite cabaña free of charge. He also helped us find affordable tours and arranged them for us. It was a beautiful cabin with a nice kitchen, large bathroom, comfy bed, and a gorgeous patio. The only downside I can think of is breakfast is 7$ per person, but with how delicious it was I really can't complain. A big thanks to Anthony and everyone there, this was the best place we stayed in all of Costa Rica. Definitely stay here!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a very nice time at Cabañas La Pradera. The staff was so friendly and the breakfast there was great! Would definitely recommend.
- Jose (10/5): Very enjoyable - Great place. Good locations. Beautiful surroundings areas. We got to see two sloths in the property. They helped us arranged all the tours and even laundry. Overall a great place to stay and relax.
- K (4/5): You get what you pay for - This was one of the cheapest places we stayed at on our trip to Costa Rica. Most of our hotels were more than $85 a night so maybe I'm being unfair but I didn't think it was worth even $85. The hot water heater is like a gallon so you can imagine a hot shower didn't last long. The bed is like a bag of rocks. It did not have AC. Most importantly, the signage to find the place completely sucks. We were lost for over and hour trying to find the place because it's not on the gps and the road doesn't have a name. The front desk was nice when we told them we struggled to find it and gave us "the room with the best view" to make up for it. The view was ok and lots of bird watching but we have seen better view.
- Mark (10/5): A peaceful stay. - We had a very nice stay, everyone was very helpful and we were booked on 2 amazing tours very quickly and efficiently. We were given lots of information about the area and how to access things. We have a quiet and peaceful stay and would definitely recommend staying here.
- Laurent (10/5): Lovely place in Star Wars - Great family hotel. Beautiful location. Extremely spacious and comfortable cabins with kitchenette. Wi-fi was very good. It is ideal for people traveling with a car, but we did just fine walking and taking taxis, which are relatively cheap. The family was extremely nice, helpful and friendly. We really had a lovely stay there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not a bad hotel, close to the city center - Nice cabins located about 10 minutes from the city center. Beautiful view in the morning. The hotel now offers breakfast but was only okay. Overal, 4/5.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great staff - nice location - Very friendly and helpful staff - we were greeted by a young man working the reception desk. He was extremely kind, brought us to our cabin and explained everything. Nice wildlife, quiet grounds, private but a 5 min drive to the center of town
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very clean & comfortable, amazing views and staff! - We traveled as a party of 6 to our first trip in Costa Rica. We stayed at three different locations, one of which was a higher end resort. Cabanas La Pradera was, hands-down, the nicest place we stayed. It has the most comfortable beds of any place we stayed. It was clean and spacious. There was hot water heated by solar panels. It was not far at all from town, however it was completely hidden by forest. There were some "resident" sloths on the property and there was a distance ocean view. There were trails from the property and a mini market in walking distance. It was very safe and secure. The staff, Anthony and his parents, were extremely kind and accommodating. They arranged a few different tours for us with transportation there and back. They had great suggestions on activities and dining. They went out of their way to make us feel at home and ensure our stay was memorable.
