Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - There's a great bar under street level on the corner. All the tenants in the building were nice.
- Jeremy (4/5): - Apartment looked like it just came off of a long term lease. The carpet was filthy and so many stains on it. There are electrical outlets missing covers and smoke detectors removed with there wires exposed. With this being a pet friendly apartment they shouldn’t have carpet as this is really hard to maintain. I wouldn’t stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Steven (10/5): - Very nice place to stay and close to National mall and museums.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved the intimacy, location, and space of the property. During my entire trip, I felt like I was in the comfort of my home. I would highly recommend the property to others. I'm looking forward to booking the property for my next stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, great location, beautiful apartment. Couldn't have asked for more!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location, not so comfy - Everything was great with the exception of comfort. This was a family trip with my parents and my father is disabled and had issues with the beds; they sit on the floor which made it difficult to get out of. The couches were not comfortable to relax on. Also the walls were very thin. I was on the 2nd floor and could hear conversations people were having on the street.
- René (10/5): Fantastisk - Fantastisk sted med ALT inden for en kort gå tur museum/spise steder/ bar mm.
- Thomas (10/5): Empfehlenswert - Gute Lage in der Nähe der Metro und zahlreichen Restaurants. Sehr nettes Appartment, freundlicher Kontakt im Vorfeld, unproblematischer Ablauf.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - great room, friendly staff, great location. Really an apartment building, not a hotel.
- Mark (8/5): Not quite Heaven on Washington but close..... - Very satisfied overall. Strengths: roomy, clean, great central and safe location, free parking, friendly concierge service, privacy, Weakness: carpet not really dirty but stained and could use a good clean, rental company warns to not deal at all with concierge but isn't responsive for help with tourist tours, etc., garage parking directions confusing as to which spot to use.
- Emilia (10/5): Nice apartment, close to the Arena and Capitol. - We are so satisfied. One only little thing, it was little bit noisy from street. But we liked so much. Very good location.
Fast food 2 min, restaurants 2 min, Walmart 10 min, Walgreens 5 min...
- Steve (4/5): The hotel is dated - The hotel and furniture in the room we had are dated and needs updating. The room itself had rust in the corner of the master bedroom shower and the beds were uncomfortable. This is not a four star apartment. I would give it two stars at best. It is very over priced for what you get.
Also, there were a number of misrepresentations in the description of the hotel. There is no swimming pool or restaurant associated with the apartment building. There is a small cafe at the corner of the street that the apartment building is located, but has nothing to do with the apartment building.
I would be cautious in dealing with Pelican Residences (company working with Expedia that handled the rental) because they are not honest. For myself, I will not deal with them again. Also, in the future, I would highly recommend that Expedia do a better job of doing background checks on the vendors that they work with.
- Marie (10/5): DC trip - Incredible location. So many restaurants and walking distance to our nations incredible museums and other places of interest. We used the roof top lounge area every night. When I return to DC I’ll definitely stay here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): your own comfortable 2-bedroom apartment in DC! - This is an absolutely unique place to stay in DC. It is a full apartment w/2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room and kitchen. It is convenient, clean, right near Chinatown, near major attractions, and an exceptional deal in that two couples can comfortably stay in the unit. You can bring in takeout from down the street, cook, hang out, etc.
- Sam (4/5): Only for Experienced DC Travelers - Room itself was great. However, the extremely unprofessional and hostile front desk personnel ruined entire stay. My wife arrived around midnight after evacuating the Tampa area during Hurricane Irma. Was frazzled after spending most of the day in transit. She had never been to DC before and was completely unfamiliar with her surroundings. Unfortunately, the woman working the front desk couldn't have been less sympathetic or helpfull.. My wife actually left the building, thinking she had the wrong address. The doorman had to follow her outside the building to let her know it was the correct building. During her stay, the front desk refused to provide even the most basic (Restaurants? Shops?, etc..) information about the surrounding area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect - We had 4 of us needing a place to stay for 3 nights, and this place was perfect! Excellent location, safe, parking included, clean, and the rooftop was *amazing* !
- Mohammad (10/5): excellent place but note be ware of the following - this was a beautiful place, Avalon luxury apartment and Pelican Residence is really renting few of their luxury apartments and parking spaces. Overall a great place.
Beware of the $150 cleaning fee, 3% credit card fee, admin fee. These fees did not show up on my invoice when I prepaid for the hotel but my credit card was automatically charged. I was told that there is a fine print small item that these fees would be applied separately. Also I was charged an extra $80 on my card which was reimbursed.
- Barry (10/5): Great place - Great place large and comfortable. New building Great rooftop view of city with lounging area. Can't say enough good things about the management and property
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice Apartment but sleeping was a challenge. - The beds were very hard in both rooms. There are no blackout curtains so the lights from the city pour into the room at night keeping you awake. The noises from the city also keep you awake. People fighting and yelling out in the streets in front of the building. Parking is free but difficult to navigate in a SUV. Amenities were great though.
- De (10/5): Close to everything - The apt. Was great,it was close to all the monuments and museums, we will stay there again.
- Theresa (6/5): Handy location but lacking in basic amenities. - This was a great location right by the Verizon Center and Chinatown. When arriving look for Avalon not Pelican at the 770 5th St NW address. I was expecting a higher quality of furnishings but got a IKEA apartment. The kitchen didn't even have a frying pan or spatula. There was only one hair dryer for 2 bathrooms and no tissue boxes. I know I sound picky but for the price I was disappointed. The next problem was probably my own but if you stay here realize the price is the room rate, cleaning fee, credit card fee and administration fee. I didn't catch the credit card and administration fee until later. As far as cleanliness, here again I'm going by the price for staying here, the microwave was dirty, the baseboards had dust accumulated. This particular apartment was on the alley side so be prepared for dumpsters being emptied in the early hours. The rooms were good sized. There were 4 adults and 2 children on our trip so 2 sofas worked out fine for the kids. The rooftop amenities were nice. If you stay here I recommend at least a week that way the fees balance out a bit. To sum up, it worked out to a little under $400 a day for our stay with 6 people. It is conveniently located and near a Metro stop.
- Robin (10/5): Conveniently located, clean, and secure - We had an amazing time touring Washington DC, and this was a great location. The apartment and the parking were very very secure, and we just felt comfortable for the entirety of our stay. We walked to many sights, and chose to take the metro when we wanted to get there faster. There is a Metro station within a 5 minute walk. Being in Chinatown - great food was just minutes away. After reading the previous reviews, I would like to say that NOT ONCE did we hear church bells from across the street. This place was a great find!!!
- Aaron (8/5): Great location for extended stays - The property was great. Very simple to check-in. Check-out was no problem (basically leave the keys in the apartment). I wish I was there a bit longer. To those who, like me don't always read the fine print, there is a significant (reviews cannot have specific prices) cleaning fee no matter how long your stay is. e.g. a 2 or 3 night stay makes that rather expensive. Check the fine print as there are some fees that may not be expected (especially if you normally stay in regular hotels... credit card fee and cleaning fee are the main ones)
That being said it was a great location with plenty to see/eat/do within walking distance. The room was massive and very clean. Full kitchen to cook. Full sized fridge. In-room washer/dryer (I think... didn't actually check as I was only there a couple days).
Walk to the White House/etc was about 25 minutes. Across the street from the Verizon center (for Hockey/Basketball fans).
- doron (8/5): Apartment not hotel - The right adress for the place is 770 5th st nw.
Finding the place was a chalange and the adress given to us was completely wrong. It took us some time and some phones to verify and get the right address. One issue is that in Expedia (the app.) There is a broken link so if you like to use it...forget it. The other issue is that the phones in Expedia are not the right one or...there was nobody to answer at the other side.
We came to the pkace following the orders in the mail we got. The front desk didn't know we are about to cone and had to make some calks in order to find our apartment number and the keys.
I would say that there should be an improvement in the check in process as well as the instructions for how to get there.
The apartment itself is big and very comfortable. It has averything you need to leave. 2 rooms, 2 bathrooms, wide salon, fully equiped kitchen , like an American house. 2 tv sets and lots of movies for free.
Location : 20-30 minutes walking from everything. We ysed a lot of Uber and it was very convenient. Lots of restorants around and 1 or 2 groceries nearby. Don't expect to much from the groceries it's small and don't have a lot to offer.
One big issue that worth mentioning is the parking. At the place there is parking , however, you can only oay with personal check. They don't take cash or credit cards. Parking can be at 6th street and you can easely get there through a back door in the building. Parking cost is 26 usd per day at the most.
- Bobbi (10/5): Thanks for this lovely apartment - You can't beat the location of this apartment. You can walk to everything. Evenings are nice with a huge choice of restaurants in Chinatown.
- John-Paul (10/5): Wonderful!! What a great find! - Wonderful apartment- right in the middle of the city. Walkable to all the attractions. The restaurants were fantastic - so many different types of cuisine.
Apartment itself was nice - 2 big bedrooms - 2 full baths. Full kitchen to cook.
Great value for money - much better than overpriced hotels.
- Joseph (10/5): Great choice over any hotel - This was my first try with an apartment - instead of a hotel. It was totally worth it. My family was very comfortable in this 2 bedroom apartment. Will definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.
- Barbara (10/5): Very convenient apartment - great location - Lucky to get a great deal on this apartment. The host was nice and communicative. Apartment was fully equipped and had everything what we needed. Kitchen was convenient for cooking.
Great place to relax after a tiring sight seeing session!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Shame about the noise - We would have given this property 9/10 as it was in a convenient location....clean and well furnished.
But unfortunately what let it down completely was the noise. The windows were so flimsy that you could hear everything that was happening outside the building and we were not even on a busy street. Such a shame....I would not recommend this property as we were only in Washington for 3 nights and did not get one decent nights sleep!
- Stephen (10/5): Great location and a Nice apartment - Great location - wonderful apartment. The apartment was fully furnished and had all the things we needed. 2 TVs - fully equipped kitchen. Safe neighborhood. Had a choice of 4 metro stations. Very nice neighborhood and great restaurants.
Will return again.
- Robert (10/5): Wonderful apartment - Had a nice and comfortable stay - nothing to complain.
- Nancy (10/5): Great location and a well kept apartment - Much better than any hotel - large apartment with a great price tab!! Totally worth it.
- Dave (8/5): Nice close to everything - Nice place floors where not very clean and the tv in the bedroom did not work
- Andrew (10/5): Wonderful apartment in a great location - Loved it - Wow - we made a great decision by booking this apartment. A huge 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with a lovely living room and fully equipped kitchen.
The location of the apartment was amazing - walking distance from all the attractions and the fantastic restaurants.
Beats any hotel hands down.
The host was wonderful - very communicative and solved all the issues we had.
Would love to stay here again.
- Jessica (10/5): Lovely apartment! Will come again! - Perfect - exceeded our expectations!
- Josh (10/5): Excellent apartment - Thanks! - Very nice apartment. Had a great stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice accommodation for a family - Plenty of space for our family of five. Good location. The check in process was smooth and the building facilities are very nice (top notch gym, roof top deck, 24 hour doorman). They only downside is we were in the second floor and you can hear the street noise and people coming in late as well as the church bells that ring starting at 8 am every 15 minutes. Overall great experience and I would recommend this booking.
- Jeri (8/5): “BEST TRIP EVER!” - We loved everything about our stay at the lovely apartment. From the door bell to the awesomeness of the contemporary decor to the ever smiling staff....we had a fantastic trip. It was a little pricey but worth EVERY PENNEY. Nicest place we have ever stayed so far. Will DEFINITELY do it again. We stayed on the 5th floor and had so much room in our 2 Bedrooms with walk in closets and 2 bathrooms, kitchen with accessories, stove, fridge, micro and granite countertops!! We even had guests over that are going to check them out on their next visit to DC. Thank you so much everyone for a great time. Can't wait to do it again! Lots of hugs!!
- Randall (10/5): Excellent! Would go back in a heartbeat - Front desk staff was exceptional and helpful when I had an issue with parking. Very friendly and welcoming. Suite was clean and very comfortable. Would highly recommend. Location was the best. Walking distance to everything.
- Christianna (10/5): Exceptional - Loved it. Hugh apartment for a great price. 2 large bedrooms with attached full baths. Great kitchen and comfortable living. And what a location!! Walking distance to all the attractions - great neighborhood! Loved the sound of church bells.
- Teresa (10/5): “A great place for excellent value right" - Great price awesome view. We had a issue with the TV but the staff solved it. Staff was the best. On a scale of 1-10 they get 100%. Will return for sure - I hope I get the same apartment.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Group of friends stay and they like it because it was like a home but has ahotel atmosphere. Close to everything
- Virginia (10/5): It was heaven on Washington - Close to National Mall. Convenient to Metro. Close to restaurants and entertainment. Great having living room to share experiences and plan for the day ahead.
- Robert (10/5): Great apartment - easy walking distance to museums - Rented the apartment for 3 nights over Spring Break for family of 5. Nice facilities, great kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms/baths. Roomy and perfect for us. We walked to Chinatown few times and ate in that area, and also walked to the museums easily.
- Aron (10/5): Great unit close to everything - Great location in the middle of it all. It is close to the metro but we walked to the Mall and all of the museums. The unit was perfect for our family of 6. The staff was helpful and courteous. We would definetly return and reccomend.
- Marc (10/5): A great stay in a great city. - Great place to stay. 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, full kitchen, dinning area and spacious living room. Plus in unit washer and dryer. All the comforts of home, without being home. Building was well kept and quiet. A short walk to all Washington DC has to offer. Less than 1 mile from the White House and less than 1 mile from the Capital Building and about 8 to 10 blocks north of the Mall area (Smithsonian Museums, etc). I would recommend staying there to family and friends.
