- 839monih (10/5): Amazing Diving Experience(Strongly Recommended) - I just had an amazing experience diving here to get my certification and I really love it! The entire team was caring and friendly, the environment was both welcoming and professional. My instructor, James, was not only hilarious and fun but also very patient, caring, responsible and detail-oriented. I learned a lot professional skills from him and he always ensured my safety whenever I needed it—truly trustworthy. He's an outstanding instructor and an amazing person who really sparked my passion for diving. I’ll definitely coming back to practice more and continue my journey here. Looking forward to do my Advanced certification later on!

- Voyager41077761186 (10/5): Five star dive experience - 5-Star Dive Experience with Manta Lodge & Scuba Centre
I had an absolutely fantastic time diving with the team at Manta Lodge & Scuba Centre on North Stradbroke Island! I dove with them twice, and they were incredibly professional, put safety first at every step, and still managed to make every moment fun and relaxed. The guides are knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about the underwater world — especially the famous site Manta Bommie.
What stood out most was the incredible crew: Dive guide Jessie (Training Divemaster) was amazing, as was (Training Divemaster ) Alice — both made the dives enjoyable and supportive. Skipper James kept everything light-hearted while being completely safe and professional throughout. Right from the first dive, it felt like diving with old friends who treat you like family. Equipment was well-maintained, briefings were clear, and they went out of their way to make sure I had the best possible experience.
Highly recommend this centre to anyone diving around North Stradbroke Island (Point Lookout area) — whether you're a beginner or experienced diver, you'll be in great hands! Already looking forward to coming back for more.

- Elizabeth (7/5): A fun weekend staying at a beautiful location. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Very convenient for the diving. - The friendly staff. Ping pong table, clean fully equipped kitchen, fridge in the bedroom and plenty of clean towels for the shower and the beach. We also got dropped off at the ferry which was a bonus! The shared bathroom (but I did know in advance). The female showers on level 2 could do with an update.

- Denise (3/5): - I do appreciate the presence of a freezer, oven, and an individual shelf in the fridge for each room, as this is not common in hostels. However, overall I would not recommend staying here. I don’t understand why “hostel” has to mean dirty. Unfortunately, our experience did not match what was advertised. There were no towels in the room, despite the email stating they would be provided. The kitchen had no labels, so we had to ask staff to provide some.
Cleanliness was a major issue. Every corner, mirror, window, curtain, and corridor was dirty, including the bedroom and showers. One of the bed sheets was visibly dirty, and the bed frames had not been dusted. Opening any kitchen drawer revealed built-up dirt that clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time.
- Analia (1/5): - The only thing positive is the location Cleaning is a mess.
Building maintenance is a mess.
A plate with fruit peels was left out all day without being removed.
The staff's personal storage area is disorganised.
The television was not working.
The internet was extremely slow.

- Francesco (10/5): Nice one - Location and friendly staff The ladder to top bunk bed , the metal bars are to hard for the feet
- macrokanis (5/5): great location & staff. SCUBA brilliant - safe & professional. Rooms small. Facility old - loaction ideal. staff great. SCUBA diving brilliant - SCUBA staff exceptional - esp Jaide & James Facility needs an upgrade - looks and feels old. Rooms smaller than description suggest4d
- Bernie (10/5): Awesome - Dverything
- Ian (8/5): - Convenient
- Esther (8/5): Everything you would expect from an hostel, but hearing the waves from the bedroom was quite magical! - So close to the beach! Great location for both sunrise and sunset early October. It was a bit unclear where the kitchen area was and I locked myself out when I went to see the sunrise.

- Russell (6/5): Great location with helpful staff and great diving. Shame about the very basic room and uncomfortable bed. - Great location and helpful staff. Great diving team. Very uncomfortable bed in small room and very expensive.
- Tracey (8/5): Best kept secret on Straddie. Quiet, Aircon, Affordable and you can't beat the location. - Location location location, cold aircon & great staff.
This is just a bit of feed back for the double rooms, I'd love to see a little upgrade into like a mini suite, with comfy Queen bed (with no bunk over) a bedside table, keep the desk and add a second chair. Perhaps use half the hanging space for some shelves. The fridge was also not cold enough to keep diary products like milk. Some laminate on the space where the jug and cups etc are would make it easier to clean. My only dislike is that the rooms adjacent to the bathrooms can hear everything that goes on in there because the doors to the hallways are always open. My suggestion for a budget fix would be to install QUIET self closing doors.

- Knott (10/5): Lovely place - Clean and great location N/A
- lv655 (2/5): Disgusting facilities and unaccountable staff - TLDR: the old YHA traveller and diver vibe is gone. If you enjoy zero communication, binge drinking, chain smoking with French backpackers, and gross facilities, this place is for you, though.
Let me start by saying I had stayed at this property when it still was a YHA, back in December 2024. The hostel was a bit run-down, but it had a beach shack vibe, and it was clean. All the guests were really lovely and respectful.
December 2025 was a completely different story. We arrived at Manta Lodge on the 25th, at the same time as two other travellers who also had a reservation starting the same day, only to find a sign indicating reception was closed for Christmas. The number left for “late check-ins” was disconnected. After waiting in the heat for a while, someone walked past and asked what we were doing there, and whether we’d called the number on the sign. When we said yes, but that the phone was turned off, the person sighed and checked us in.
Inside the hostel, we found the women’s bathrooms on the first floor were utterly unsanitary. I’m talking dirty underwear, toilet paper on the floor and in the sinks, as well as wet wipes around the showers. We decided to make do, since it was the 25th, and thought the staff would take care of this when rostered back the day after. We couldn’t change our reservation anyway: we had booked directly with Manta Lodge, and amendments require you to contact the accommodation directly (so beware to call within opening hours if you still decide to book with them after reading this review).
On the 26th, we saw some backpackers clean around, but the women’s bathroom on our floor stayed the same. I went to take a look at the bathroom on the second floor. That specific bathroom was pristine, as it had been during my first stay in 2024. I suspect that’s because the lodge’s staff are staying on that floor. After an email, management took over the matter on the morning of the 27th and had the staff clean up the first-floor bathroom.
We thought that would be it, but why would our stay go smoothly for even just one out of three nights after having paid $740 in total?
Some backpackers decided to ignore the “quiet hours” signs and started shouting in the hallway, completely smashed. They weren’t outside, or even in the chill-out/common areas, but well and truly in the hallway of the first floor and/or in their room, with very thin walls. When I came out to tell them to quiet down, two men were wrestling just outside our room (which, in their state of inebriety, was unsafe). This was around 11pm; the staff can check the cameras. The following morning, a fellow guest thanked me for intervening — although, again, I believe this should have been the hostel staff’s job.
To add insult to injury, I was blessed to make my morning coffee in a, yet again, disgusting kitchen, including a prawn salad from the night before, as well as a dips platter that had been left out for at least 24 hours. The dishes were uncovered, and as I took a photo, someone (unsure whether it was another bothered guest or a very oblivious employee) informed me the dips belonged to Manta Lodge staff. By that point, I was bewildered and didn’t even bother talking to management again.
Again, all I’ll say is: don’t come here if you’re after a clean bathroom or a good night’s rest before a dive or nature expedition.
- Rahman (10/5): Amazing staffs, very friendly. It was also clean and very close to activities nearby. - That it is very central, and easy to navigate as a first timer at North Stradbroke.

- xiaoshu (10/5): Perfect place for one night stay - fantastic location, walking distance to the beach, friendly staff, the bed is comfy Nil

- Heloisa (8/5): -
- Victoria (1/5): Terrible - I didn’t like anything about this place. The staff were too laid back and it was noisey all night with banging doors The fact our room had a defective light and they tried to make us pay for a different room because they only had a more expensive room available

- 562martijnp (10/5): Amazing Crew, Great Vibes, and Incredible Marine Life! - We had a fantastic experience diving with Manta Lodge & Scuba Centre. We did 2 dives, and both were absolutely amazing. The crew was extremely professional, enthusiastic, and created a really positive atmosphere throughout the day. A special thank-you to Ryan for making the experience even better!
The dive site was incredible — we saw leopard sharks, guitar sharks, mantas, huge stingrays, and so much more. Truly unforgettable! We only wish we could have stayed longer. We’ll definitely return for more dives!
- Regina (8/5): -
- Kinnear (10/5): - The staff were so friendly, the place was clean, there was a nice chilled vibe.
- Shani (7/5): -
- Samantha (10/5): A must do! - This was undoubtedly one of the top experiences we have had. We have travelled a lot and the team, the facilities and the diving all world class.
- erinaus25 (10/5): Epic diving, friendly staff, great facilities - The team at Manta go above and beyond to make you feel safe and comfortable while visiting Minjerribah's insane dive sites. Mantas, sharks, turtles and so much more, if you haven't dived here you're missing out. I did both my open water and advanced certification with this team and I can't speak anymore highly of them. Great value and staff that take safety seriously while still being warm and helping you make the most out of your dives. There's even hot showers and warm towels provided for divers. In terms of accommodation, the lodge has everything you need. It's right by the beach and is also across the road from a public bus stop if you want to explore other parts of the island. Thanks for safely opening up the underwater world for me. Looking forward to many more dives to come :)

- Octavio (10/5): -
- Woodward (9/5): - Great location, friendly staff
- Teoni (7/5): Great for a short stay - The location is excellent, a minute from the beach, with a bus stop right out the front. If you have a car there is plenty of parking. The bed was comfortable and the room roomy. The shared kitchen was really well equipped. With the exception of one staff member they seemed disinterested in communicating with me as a guest, perhaps because I wasn't a diver? The bathrooms definitely need a good clean, there were a lot of spider webs, mould and sand.
- Nick (7/5): Good basic accommodation right at Home Beach - great location right by the beach, friendly staff and decent amenities. the process of checking in and out was super easy and I especially enjoyed the outdoor showers. some parts of the property were dirty. of course there will be some sand but overall the floors, common areas, and bathroom needed a clean. I also thought it was a touch over-priced.
- Jeannette (8/5): -
- Jasmine (8/5): - Lovely staff, great location right by the beach. Bus stop right in front of the building, busses are however not reliable - 30 min walk from Cylinder Beach. Scuba trucks go by at about 4-5 am which woke me up each morning. Bathrooms could use a bit of updating for the showers but not the worst.
- Bonnie (10/5): very good - everything nothing
- Freya (5/5): Fine but too expensive for the quality. - Location was good, staff were friendly. Beds and linen were clean and comfortable. The rest of the property was very dirty. Ceilings in the shower were covered in mould, there were dead bugs in the showers that stayed for multiple days (were not cleaned at all during our stay), sand stayed in the showers for the whole stay, toilet paper was left on the floor for multiple days, dead bugs around the sink for multiple days, contact lenses from previous guests were left next to the bed. Everything is very run down.
- Linda (7/5): Value for money, felt safe -

- powellv0 (10/5): Scuba training at Manta - Did Open Water course. Staff were very friendly and supportive . Instruction was very clear. Great facilities and dive sites.
- Heather (8/5): - It was affordable. We only needed one night and it fit the bill perfectly.
Staff were really friendly. Nothing.
