Guest Reviews
- Ying Rong (9/5): -
- JeanneWoj (10/5): We really appreciated ! - Very good vibe in this hostel.
The staff is very sympathic.
The common space is nice, hostful, with some books and board games. The kitchen is well-equipped, the bathroom too.
And the big point is the onsen !! You can enjoy a common onsen or book a private one for free !
There is also a bar which is very pleasant. Maybe the beds could be more comfortable.
- Luke (10/5): Amazing Hostel in the Japanese mountains. 10/10 recommend! - We had a lovely time in Hakone Tent, the staff, especially Abi were so welcoming and gave us local recommendations for activities and places to eat. The facilities were amazing. The private Onsen was so relaxing and spacious. Nothing to complain about!

- Ricardo (8/5): Tolle Lage Liebe und nettes Personal - Tolle Lage
- Jak (8/5): - Ryokan styled accomodation created a great Japanese experience. Facilities were clean and natural onsen was a great feature. Even though they mentioned multiple times responding to guests on booking.com that the onsen includes “no additional fees” and is free of charge. Employee was still charging guests a fee/tax each time they use the onsen. That they only wanted paid in cash, even though there was no where written in the venue or when booking to indicate otherwise. We just weren’t sure if we were getting scammed or if it was legit. Either way was a good stay and still recommend staying here, just a bit of confusion that’s all.
- Lenka (10/5): - Great location, very friendly young stuff, nice obden. Very japanese style accomodation.
- Margaud (10/5): -
- Diego Alexander (10/5): Really nice place - The people is really nice and kind, also we arrive late and they were worried about us.
And no matter the delay they received us in the most kind way.
The onsen is really good and relaxing.
At least my suggestion is don't be shy to ask for an extra futon if you want it.
- Aleksandar (9/5): - Great place with onsen and nice cosy rooms.
Friendly and helpful staff.
- Calexiane (10/5): - The staff were soooo nice! The weather was very bad and we could not do anything but the staff were of good advice! Thanks again!! Nothing

- Philipp (9/5): -
- Martha (8/5): - Loved the onsen experience Shared bathrooms
- pradyumna singh (10/5): - If you come to hakone and you definitely should, you should not think twice about booking this stay.
- Milagros (7/5): Cozy stay in the mountains - The location and place are beautiful. The staff was adorable and the onsen is lovely. Very nostalgic. The place needs maintenance. A few things didn’t work (shower, toilet). Some of the bed covers were a little mildewy. And there is not a lot of cleanliness in the common areas (aka toilet), I believe the establishment should enforce some house rules regarding cleaning.

Ryokan style and worlderful onsen bath.

- 5075b9213df673afa2ccc78f1da35bf0 (10/5): Welcoming and fun place to stay - We loved the atmosphere here, very welcoming and family friendly. The tatami mat room was great, plenty of space with comfortable futons and cozy blankets. The bar was a lovely place to hang out in the evening, the first night we had dinner here and made our own hand rolls, which was fun and delicious! The staff were great at entertaining the kids, getting them to try calligraphy and learning some Japanese characters in the process. Nice to have the onsen onsite too. Location was good, close to Gora station.
- 4d9af8217db8731440a01a23bb660552 (8/5): Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. - Traditional Japanese accommodation, excellent location, very close to the station, which made walking with luggage easy. All but one shower was working when we were staying.

- Rasika (9/5): - The hosts, the onsens, the comfortable futon beds and the location
- Chandni (8/5): Apartment is great - We stayed in the apartment. It was really close to Gora station. They have luggage storage if you need it. Apartment was really clean and all basic amenities provided. Before leaving, we will need to remove our own bed linens and towels and place them in a bin. The apartment lacked curtains and the whole kitchen and living area is surrounded by windows. They only provided curtains to separate the tatami area. Privacy aside, it got really hot in the day too due to lack of curtains.
- Yunsong (10/5): - really great experiences!
- Thea (10/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): - The staff was super friendly and we felt very welcome. No complaints
- Evangelina (10/5): Friendly staff, great location - It’s very close to the train station; approx. a less than 5-minute walk. Ryokan-style accommodation. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Haruna’s food recommendations were on point. The ramen place was delicious. We joined Sara for the takoyaki experience and it was so much fun. Thank you both for a great stay! I liked everything that this place offers.

- Bing Qi (10/5): GOOD VIBE! Great in Hakone! -
- CHARON (8/5): Bon rapport qualité prix - Proximité des transports
Onsen, accueil très bien

- Philippe (10/5): Tent au top ! - Emplacement
- satou (10/5): -
- Toni (9/5): -
- Emilie (10/5): - Very friendly staff, great onsen. Located really cllose from gora station.
- Victor (10/5): -
- Yohann (10/5): - The hotel has a lovely charm with its tatami rooms and two onsens. The staff provides a warm welcome throughout your stay.
- Karolina (9/5): Great price and quality ratio, wonderful onsen stay - Had a room with a fantastic view to autumn leaves, comfortable futons and quiet atmosphere. There are two onsen baths at the basement - one you need to book and another one which you can use whenever it's not occupied. Went to onsen everynight, never needed to wait in queue. The building needs renovation, and it is not sparkling tidy, but it didn't bother me at all.
- Maria (10/5): -
- Dalli (10/5): Perfect -
- Paul (9/5): -
- Michelle (9/5): - Staff were super friendly and helpful! My single room was very cosy and comfy. Also loved the downstairs bar and the private onsen. Location was perfect as it was just a 5-minute walk from the train station.
- Imee (10/5): Rating 10/10 Hospitality and Location - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hakone Tent apartment. It’s an ideal base for exploring Hakone.
The apartment was clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed. While simple in style, it provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The communal areas were warm and inviting, creating a homelike atmosphere. Having a private onsen is a plus! ALL the staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive. Their hospitality added greatly to the overall experience. Conveniently situated near Gora station, the apartment allowed easy access to the Hakone Tozan Railway, Cable car and walk to the Open Aire museum. Hakone Tent Apartment is not a luxury property, but it excels in authenticity, warmth, and community spirit. We highly recommend it to travelers seeking a welcoming environment and a memorable Hakone experience.
- Kristiyan (10/5): - Had an amazing stay at the guesthouse. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Would recommend 10/10.
- Joshua (7/5): A traditional stay in Hakone - The room is super spacious and we really loved having two onsens. They also have a communal bar with drinks and games. It's the perfect spot to get started on the Hakone Loop. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Facilities showing its age (very old building), traditional Japanese bedding took a little to get used to, but the staff offer an extra bed for padding.
- Minh Ngan (9/5): -
- Oskar (10/5): - The staff were super friendly and kind, they gave us great recommendations and were helpful in both the coin laundry and the booking of onsens.
- Delhaxhe (9/5): -
- Lara (8/5): -
- Peter (8/5): Very nice but a little expensive - The staff, the choice of two onsens. I thought the price for the room was expensive - I paid over ¥19,000 for 1 person. My friends paid ¥12,000 in two different places for similatmr type room.
Maybe ¥19,000 is because it's a riple room, but it was just 1 person staying(could adjust price when it is only 1 guest?)
- Jennifer (6/5): Onsen saved the day. - The best part of this stay is the onsen and the staff who are all very friendly. Stayed in the large family room and it had a terrible musky odor that smelled like something fermented. Beds on the floor were not comfortable despite using an extra futon mattress. It’s very basic, but the onsen made up for what was lacking.
- Ethan (10/5): -
- Grub_budget (2/5): Avoid Hakone Tent at all costs. - Unless you are desperate, avoid booking this guesthouse. While the staff are friendly and kind, the property is old, grubby and very shabby. It smells either of gas from the gas heater in the entrance or damp. The rooms also smell of old tatami and damp, the sheets are thin and worn; mine had two holes in it. The quilt was very old and smelly. The futons are very thin and lumpy so sleeping comfortably was impossible. The towels were thin and small. And to add insult to
Injury, you have to pay for extra towels or pillows. The onsen itself is dank, dark and dirty. There is only one shower for the whole place which is old and creaky. Otherwise you have to reserve the onsen to get access to washing facilities. It was terrible value for money; we have stayed for three nights in Kanazawa in a clean and delightfully appointed hotel for the price we paid for two nights in Hakone Tent. Someone is making money for zero effort. The window screens don’t work and mosquitoes kept me awake even in October. This place needs an urgent makeover; the lino is broken and everything is grubby. I stayed up half the night trying to find an alternative place to stay it was so bad. Lift your game Hakone Tent or customers will vote with their feet.
- Dorian (10/5): -
- Maria (9/5): Beautiful and peaceful. - Very beautiful stay! We loved talking to staff, they were very friendly and offered guidance. We felt very peaceful there and it was nice that there was a bar on site. Nothing negative, but just be prepared for shared bathrooms and showers. It worked out for us as we would shower before getting into the osen. It was never a problem for the bathroom either since there are multiple and also multiple sinks to wash your face and teeth. Walls are quite thin, but quiet hours are at 10pm and guest were respectful of this.
- Erick (10/5): - Staff was so friendly and show us everything about the property policies once we arrived
- Karina (8/5): -
