- Nicolas (10/5): -
- Shu Ping (10/5): -
- Anthony (10/5): - The lady who brought our dinner was so kind and welcoming and it really added to the stay. The room was also really traditional and really cool to stay in. The hot spring was also amazing
- Chen (9/5): Great value - Location very closer to historical heritage sites, all by walking distances Food…maybe not the best taste
- Enrico (10/5): -
- Irene (10/5): - This is the closest hotel to shrines. Very friendly staff. Great yummy food, kaiseki dinner and breakfast! It was long weekend due to public holiday, so it was super crowded and traffic backed up for a long time :( Note to self, don't go on a public holiday weekend!
Cena e colazione kaiseki curatissime
- Martha (4/5): - It was in a nice location. No food or drink available- even coffee in the morning- if you did not purchase meals in advance. Most of staff unpleasant, excluding the last woman who helped us get a taxi when we left. Have stayed at other traditional Japanese hotels. The during here miserably thin.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marc (10/5): Prime location, traditional and excellent service. - A very traditional Japanese hotel. The best location to explore Nikko - really in the middle of all the sights. Lovely food and lovely staff.
- Douglas (10/5): - Very convenient hotel for a stay in Nikko. Very close for easy walking to Toshogu Shrine.
- Yonghong (6/5): - Very old facility, has some smell in the room. You have to walk quite a bit to get to hotel. The dinner and breakfast are good.
- Welsh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- betty (10/5): - Great location to major attractions. Half board food is excellent especially breakfast. The hot spring is very comfortable. It’s an old Japanese hotel with great value.
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Edgardo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lionel (10/5): So convenient - Excellent. Right in the heart of the world Heritage Area, Walking distance to all the major attractions, shrines and temples. Bus stop right in front of the hotel.
- Coco-bechtold (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joann (9/5): Superb -
- grace (10/5): - Great location right next to the shrines. Dinner and breakfast were traditional Japanese with a lot of small dishes. The staff is very helpful. We also booked a private onsen it was very nice. Overall a fantastic traditional Japanese experience
- Doris (8/5): We had a nice stay and enjoyed the traditional Japanese food. - Friendly staff, fantastic meals. Just a few minutes’ walk to Toshogu Temple. En-suite bathroom is tiny. Nevertheless, you can have a good bath in the hotel’s Onsen which is quite big and with good facilities.
- Jadranka (8/5): Excellent location and service - Location was excellent as well as staff and their service As previously mentioned the place could do with an update but overall it was excellent location with good food.
- Robert (7/5): definitely enjoyed my stay there staff is incredible - old school type hotel. enjoyed the baths. they have private and men's only baths. fresh robes everyday. staff is very helpful and were always asking if I needed anything and if everything was ok. hotel is not to far from the downtown strip bathroom was a little antiquated and small
- Suresh (9/5): Superb - Very friendly service staff, especially the two elder ladies who served dinner and breakfast. The Japanese meals purchased as add-ons were incredible - a true taste of Japan with quality food and cooking. Hotel is right at the entrance to the World Heritage site. Authentic Japanese experience with beds and onsen. Got charged for a minibar item we didn't use.
- Krista (10/5): The location was very good, the service from staff was friendly and it had a relaxed atmosphere. - I loved the service from the friendly helpful staff. The hotel had a comfortable, homely and relaxed atmosphere. The location was great, near coffee shops, the river and shrine. Also loved the onsen.
- Jameel (9/5): Great stay - Onsen and food was amazing Staff don't speak much English
- Annie (9/5): Happy with our stay. Great location, services and foods. - Location & services & foods. None
- Thanhlan (10/5): - Hotel is very close to all the world heritage sites right across from the parking lots. Walking distance to sites and train station
The half board option is very nice. Dinner served in the room
There is onsen on premise
The hotel is somewhat older but that maybe part of its charm. We chose to stay in Japanese style room with tatami floor. The futon was much more comfortable than I thought.
- Janneke (6/5): Outdated, don't recommend it - Location is great, if you want to visit the shrine or bridge. Looks like an autentic, cosy inn. Room is spacious, has all ammenities you need. Outdated inn. Beds are so-so, pillows rock hard. Bathroom is very small, and water temperature hard to get right. Only hot water is too hot, when you mix it with cold, it gets way too cold. Oh, and when you feel water pressure is too low: wiggle the hose....
We didn't book any meals, but changed our mind about breakfast. Turned out you had to order a day in advance. It would've been nice if they told us that at check in. Now this older lady just screamed no at us.
At check out we had to pay 300 yen "onsen tax". We did not know that. As we didn't use the onsen, we tought that was strange. The man at the counter couldn't explain what the tax is for. We got a receipt in Japanese, which we couldn't reed. We did pay and translated the receipt later: it is indeed a "bath tax". Still not fair, as we didn't use it.
- Kin (8/5): - Staffs' exceptional services, beautiful and delicious dinner and breakfast, good size room, nice amenities in the public bath. Very close to Nikko Toshogu. It is excellent if the internet connection can be more stable.
- Hortense (9/5): Great hotel and great staff! - The staff was great, and the room was pretty comfy.
- Jirdsak (9/5): Superb -
- Sean (9/5): Great spot with nice amenities right next to the main shrine area - Great location with good amenities directly next to the main shrine area. Exceptional breakfast. All good.
- Annemieke (10/5): A wonderful experience - Lovely ryokan stay, dinner and breakfast were amazing and a true adventure. We loved having dinner in our room and the stay was a perfect start for our Japan trip. n.a.
- Tristan (9/5): Excellent stay and delicious meals - The meals were excellent. The baths were also great including the private bath that I had to a pay a little extra for (~$20). The property is on the older side but still well taken care of.
- Lee (5/5): Disappointed - BF good, location excellent BUT bathroom too too small and old! Time for renovations! If cleanliness improves
- Wai (9/5): Great food, great traditional japanese ryokan experience, great location. - I got to experience delicious kaiseki meal for breakfast and dinner for 3 day 2 nights and they were varied or different for each meal. The staff is really hospitable, they were really nice. The hotspring is also really great. The room is really spacious.
- Denix (9/5): We had a very relaxing time and felt very welcome. We would definitely stay again! - Fantastic location with very friendly staff and impeccable service. The food was seasonal, authentic, and obviously prepared with great care. We enjoyed the onsen and the proximity to cultural heritage sites of Nikko. They have a shuttle service to the train station at checkout time, inform them at least the day before. This is not a negative, but an information for unaccustomed foreign visitors:
Please don't expect to communicate in English (eigo). It's very uncommon outside of big cities, and asking for it when the other person can't speak it can lead to the other person's embarrassment. Please try it in Japanese, even if you only know the bare minimum of basic phrases, like me. Use your smartphone's translator, it's okay!
- Golda (8/5): Very good - Nice onsen bath. Very good dinner +dessert, they bring it to your room. And very good breakfast in the dining hall. Very near like a 10minute walk to the Nikko Toshigi Temple. The room was warm, it took a while to cool down after windows were opened. It was 3rd week of April.
- Laurel (9/5): Great ryokan option near the Toshogu with excellent food and traditional service - Great old ryokan option within just a few minutes' walk of the Toshogu complex. Truly excellent food and lively, friendly staff. Private rotenburo can be booked, in addition to the use of the large baths (which are available all night long). We appreciated being picked up at the station and taken back on our departure. The wifi is weak; couldn't log on at all on my computer, but others could on other devices.
- Germaine (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast and Dinner were the best in our stay in Japan nothing
- Anna (7/5): Good - Food was delicious I asked hotel for a pick up from train station, they didn't care to respond.
Since the commend of English of hotel staff is very limited it is difficult to communicate
- Liuliumama (10/5): Exceptional - absolutely the best service
- Paul (8/5): In a nutshell this hotel is a great place to use as a base for exploring Nikko as its location is pretty much central to - excellent location, fantastic food! Very small and dated attached bathroom.
- Bastien (10/5): We are very grateful for the friendly welcome we received and we are delighted with our stay! Thank you! -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sandora (10/5): Exceptional - location, service, onsen, food none
- Chalisa (8/5): Very nice Japanese traditional food! - Most of the staff are friendly. Very delicious dinner and breakfast. Good Onsen. There was no bus that stop in front of the hotel anymore. We didn't know that before booking and had to walk uphill with our luggage.
- Henry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hung (8/5): The whole experience was pleasant, and I will recommend the hotel to friends. - The food is excellent! We had a great dinner and breakfast.
The place is close to historical spots, which is convenient. It isn't easy to contact the hotel using the Booking.com chat system.
You might wanna call the hotel if you have immediate questions or modifications.
- Et (8/5): convenient, great location, value for money - the location is great, walking distance to nearby attractions. Staff is also nice. Dinner and breakfast are impressive. small toilet so we took shower at hot spring place.
- Kc (9/5): Superb -
- SUET YEE BETTY (10/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely Hotel. Great location, and wonderful town.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Amazing location! Nostalgic hotel :) - This hotel was in an amazing location - less than 5 mins walk to toshugu and rinnoji temple - as an added bonus they have free pick up from Tobu-Nikko station and there is a free shuttle at designated times back to the station. Great service from all the staff. We got the Japanese style room - although it was a bit basic/ dated, it had all the amenities required for a short stay. Futons were also very comfy. The dinner (served in room) and breakfast were amazing! The outdoor onsen was also a treat!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stay Here! - Amazing! Staff couldn’t have been more attentive, welcoming or helpful. Courtesy shuttle to train station. Meals were exquisite. Facilities very clean with many unexpected amenities. Would highly recommend.
- Jeffrey (8/5): Charming and friendly - Charming and friendly experience at an older, but well maintained, ryokan. Excellent service and delicious food. There was some noise of a school group. The location is ideal.
- Jacquelyn (10/5): - Great stay. Great position. Having dinner and breakfast included was an added bonus. Really enjoyed our stay.
- Yvonne (10/5): Authentic Japanese experience - We had three days here and loved it. The hotel is in an excellent location for visiting the Toshuga temple. It’s just a short distance up the hill by either road or stairs. The Shinkyo bridge is just a short distance down. We booked a room with both breakfast and dinner, which are excellent in quality, variety and presentation. The staff explained every dish and there was always more than we could possibly eat.
We had a small western room. Our only complaint was that the bathroom is up a step making it a bit dodgy in the middle of the night. Our friend had a Japanese room which had the same small bathroom but also an extra loo on the same level. The advantage of the western room was a bedside table and light.
The Ibsen experience is excellent. In these public bath rooms are every amenity you could wish for.
We really enjoyed this Japanese experience as it gives you a much better appreciation of the Japanese culture.
The staff do everything they can to make you feel welcome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charming traditional-style hotel - A lovely and convenient place to stay near the Nikko temples and only a short walk to the rest of town. The staff were unfailingly sweet and the food was delicious. The room was a little dusty but comfortable, and the onsen very charming.
- Jason (10/5): Excellent cozy place in the mountainous Nikko area - We arrived a bit late to the hotel and missed dinner because of it. One of the staff members went out of his way to personally drive us to a small store nearby to get some food for the night. Really excellent customer obsession!
The meals at the ryokan were full of variety. Lots of little dishes, both hot and cold, and always with green tea. This was definitely a big perk of Hotel Seikoen. It's worth knowing that breakfast is served over in the restaurant area beyond the front desk, while dinner is served in your room.
The hotel itself can be a little hard to find if you're coming in via rail at night. It's beneficial having a print-out of the map or a GPS-enabled device.
