• Irene (10/5): - This is the closest hotel to shrines. Very friendly staff. Great yummy food, kaiseki dinner and breakfast! It was long weekend due to public holiday, so it was super crowded and traffic backed up for a long time :( Note to self, don't go on a public holiday weekend!

• Doris (8/5): We had a nice stay and enjoyed the traditional Japanese food. - Friendly staff, fantastic meals. Just a few minutes’ walk to Toshogu Temple. En-suite bathroom is tiny. Nevertheless, you can have a good bath in the hotel’s Onsen which is quite big and with good facilities.
• ? (8/5): - 冬場に宿泊させて頂きました。送迎もスタッフもとても対応が良く、おそらくまだ新人であろう方も一生懸命に対応してくれました。大浴場の床が誰も入浴してなかったからか、ちょっと冷たかった。1番良かったのは日光東照宮や輪王寺や明治の館などが歩きで近かったことです！高齢者もいたので、良かったとしみじみ言ってました。
• Jing Wen (10/5): - Chen in旅館時告知對方我是素食者詢問櫃檯是否能給我素食早餐（蛋奶可），櫃檯人員告知他們沒有素食餐飲，但會向廚師詢問是否可將明天早餐改為素食套餐，第二天我到了餐廳看到我的早餐已經改為蛋奶素，真的非常感動，心中非常感謝櫃檯和廚房人員的幫忙。 旅館位置佳，很乾淨，服務態度非常好，我有機會再到日光還會再來住這裡。

The Japanese meals purchased as add-ons were incredible - a true taste of Japan with quality food and cooking. Hotel is right at the entrance to the World Heritage site. Authentic Japanese experience with beds and onsen. Got charged for a minibar item we didn't use.

Dinner served in the room There is onsen on premise The hotel is somewhat older but that maybe part of its charm. We chose to stay in Japanese style room with tatami floor. The futon was much more comfortable than I thought.
• Janneke (6/5): Outdated, don't recommend it - Location is great, if you want to visit the shrine or bridge. Looks like an autentic, cosy inn. Room is spacious, has all ammenities you need. Outdated inn. Beds are so-so, pillows rock hard. Bathroom is very small, and water temperature hard to get right. Only hot water is too hot, when you mix it with cold, it gets way too cold. Oh, and when you feel water pressure is too low: wiggle the hose.... We didn't book any meals, but changed our mind about breakfast. Turned out you had to order a day in advance. It would've been nice if they told us that at check in. Now this older lady just screamed no at us. At check out we had to pay 300 yen "onsen tax". We did not know that. As we didn't use the onsen, we tought that was strange. The man at the counter couldn't explain what the tax is for. We got a receipt in Japanese, which we couldn't reed. We did pay and translated the receipt later: it is indeed a "bath tax". Still not fair, as we didn't use it.

• Wai (9/5): Great food, great traditional japanese ryokan experience, great location. - I got to experience delicious kaiseki meal for breakfast and dinner for 3 day 2 nights and they were varied or different for each meal. The staff is really hospitable, they were really nice. The hotspring is also really great. The room is really spacious.
• Denix (9/5): We had a very relaxing time and felt very welcome. We would definitely stay again! - Fantastic location with very friendly staff and impeccable service. The food was seasonal, authentic, and obviously prepared with great care. We enjoyed the onsen and the proximity to cultural heritage sites of Nikko. They have a shuttle service to the train station at checkout time, inform them at least the day before. This is not a negative, but an information for unaccustomed foreign visitors: Please don't expect to communicate in English (eigo). It's very uncommon outside of big cities, and asking for it when the other person can't speak it can lead to the other person's embarrassment. Please try it in Japanese, even if you only know the bare minimum of basic phrases, like me. Use your smartphone's translator, it's okay!
• Golda (8/5): Very good - Nice onsen bath. Very good dinner +dessert, they bring it to your room. And very good breakfast in the dining hall. Very near like a 10minute walk to the Nikko Toshigi Temple. The room was warm, it took a while to cool down after windows were opened. It was 3rd week of April.
• Laurel (9/5): Great ryokan option near the Toshogu with excellent food and traditional service - Great old ryokan option within just a few minutes' walk of the Toshogu complex. Truly excellent food and lively, friendly staff. Private rotenburo can be booked, in addition to the use of the large baths (which are available all night long). We appreciated being picked up at the station and taken back on our departure. The wifi is weak; couldn't log on at all on my computer, but others could on other devices.

The place is close to historical spots, which is convenient. It isn't easy to contact the hotel using the Booking.com chat system. • モリヒロ (8/5): - ホテルが日光東照宮の敷地内に在り、静寂で、東照宮参詣までも近く、立地状況がとても良い。東武日光駅からホテルまでの送迎をお願いしたところ気持ちよく対応していただけた。 全般にわたり、従業員の対応が丁寧で気持ちよく過ごせた。 洋室ベッドの部屋を希望したが、部屋はこざっぱり清潔ではあったが、思ったより狭く、窓の横が駐車スペースで景色は良いとは言えなかった。 和室を希望すればよかったかなと思いました。 欲を言えば、もう少し部屋が広く、ベッドに腰を掛けたり、くつろいだりするのではなく、ベッドとは別にソファでもあればよかったです。夕食は部屋食で、食事をするテーブルとイス2脚がありそれは便利でした。食事も量・質共良かったです。

Nostalgic hotel :) - This hotel was in an amazing location - less than 5 mins walk to toshugu and rinnoji temple - as an added bonus they have free pick up from Tobu-Nikko station and there is a free shuttle at designated times back to the station. Great service from all the staff. We got the Japanese style room - although it was a bit basic/ dated, it had all the amenities required for a short stay. Futons were also very comfy. The dinner (served in room) and breakfast were amazing! The outdoor onsen was also a treat!

• Yvonne (10/5): Authentic Japanese experience - We had three days here and loved it. The hotel is in an excellent location for visiting the Toshuga temple. It’s just a short distance up the hill by either road or stairs. The Shinkyo bridge is just a short distance down. We booked a room with both breakfast and dinner, which are excellent in quality, variety and presentation. The staff explained every dish and there was always more than we could possibly eat. We had a small western room. Our only complaint was that the bathroom is up a step making it a bit dodgy in the middle of the night. Our friend had a Japanese room which had the same small bathroom but also an extra loo on the same level. The advantage of the western room was a bedside table and light. The Ibsen experience is excellent. In these public bath rooms are every amenity you could wish for. We really enjoyed this Japanese experience as it gives you a much better appreciation of the Japanese culture. The staff do everything they can to make you feel welcome.
• Verified traveler (10/5): Charming traditional-style hotel - A lovely and convenient place to stay near the Nikko temples and only a short walk to the rest of town. The staff were unfailingly sweet and the food was delicious. The room was a little dusty but comfortable, and the onsen very charming.
• Jason (10/5): Excellent cozy place in the mountainous Nikko area - We arrived a bit late to the hotel and missed dinner because of it. One of the staff members went out of his way to personally drive us to a small store nearby to get some food for the night. Really excellent customer obsession! The meals at the ryokan were full of variety. Lots of little dishes, both hot and cold, and always with green tea. This was definitely a big perk of Hotel Seikoen. It's worth knowing that breakfast is served over in the restaurant area beyond the front desk, while dinner is served in your room. The hotel itself can be a little hard to find if you're coming in via rail at night. It's beneficial having a print-out of the map or a GPS-enabled device.
