Guest Reviews

- Lianda (8/5): Romantic stay in middle of San Cristobal - The location is fantastic in the middle of the city. Our room was apart from the rest of the hotel and had a garden and a lot of privacy. The water pressure was very bad and it can get quite cold at night.
- Luis Felipe (10/5): Ecxelente eleccion y locacion.
- Luca Luigi Antonio (9/5): - Posto accogliente in prossimità del centro storico. Tutto ok
- Joshua (10/5): - The property was wonderful and the location was placed perfectly.
Easy walking to food and shops.
- Ivan (8/5): Very good -
- TORRES CABRERA (10/5): - .
- Martina (5/5): Passable - Overall the hotel is nice but there was not hot water and the room was cold. Perfect location. No hot water in the shower, cold room, difficult to communicate in English
- jhossr574 (2/5): The manager is a rude person and humiliates her staff - Never visit this place it is very beautiful but the service is horrible the manager Carolina Reyes was very rude and when I tried to talk to her she humiliated and yelled at her employee the manager's service was terrible and the staff was treated badly.
- Andres (10/5): - Que dan un buen servicio
- Ana (5/5): the staff was very friendly and accomodating, wine was good bt bit overpriced in general. - its quite old, toilet and bathroom had this smell, ddnt shower on my last day. looks nicer on pics, room was nice bt bit stuffy, old buding i suppose.
- Harry (7/5): Lots of potential with great rooms but some things letting it down - Loved the room, very comfortable and clean. We also loved the art around the hotel and within the room itself. Great to have lots of little storage spaces around the room for clothes, especially when unpacking large rucksacks! A lot of the advertised amenities (bar, restaurant, breakfast, spa) weren’t available within the hotel itself - we thought this was misrepresented in the hotel description. When asked about the restaurant we were directed to another business down the street. The rooms are directly situated around an indoor courtyard meaning there is a bit of noise from the reception area. There was also building work going on in the reception area for the duration of our stay that started quite early in the mornings - there was no mention that this would be happening. It was disappointing to miss out on some of the positives that other reviews mentioned, such as a welcome drink, that led us to book. We also weren’t really shown where anything was in the hotel or given any info like the WiFi code when checking in. Also not having facilities for getting boiled water to make hot drinks was a shame. There was also a bit of noise from the street.
- Jorge Gerardo (10/5): - Tiene agua caliente
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nestor (10/5): - Habitaciones amplios y cómodas.
- Julio (9/5): very nice hotel with extremely helpful staff close to the center of activities in town. - the hotels was quite quaint. the staff was great; quite helpful. the room was very nice and comfortable in a minimalist way. N/A
- Urban (10/5): Exceptional - The whole place is just beautiful and the staff is phenomenal. They were sooo nice and helped us with everything. The food was amazing. The hotel is in the center but the room is very quiet non the less. so everything from the staff, food and the location was 10/10. Would recommend.
- Rosario (9/5): Superb -
- Patrick (9/5): Wonderful and centrally located place to stay in San Cristobal de las Casas! - Very kind staff, spacious and nice room, comfy bed. TV supports Netflix. Lightning of room is really nice! Can look through window into shower and toilet. No in-room amenities such as a water kettle or mini fridge.
- Bibiana (2/5): Too noisy - This hotel is a one floor building the rooms are situated where the restaurant, bar and reception are. Our room was directory to the street on one side and right outside of our door was the reception, two full nights of not sleeping due to the noise either from the street or the reception and restaurant.
- 1971bibi (2/5): Not a noiseless hotel! - The hotel is pretty but that’s it! If you don’t sleep then this is the hotel for you!
The rooms are all on the first floor and share the space with the reception, restaurant and bar. We had the room right next to the reception, that room is directly to the street so the noise from the street is a given, but not only that, first night the receptionist was LOL right outside of our room after 11 pm so add that to the street noise, next morning I was awaken by 5 screaming children plus their parents because they where there to have breakfast at 7:30 am and they went to reception first to ask questions right outside my door! So if you don’t sleep and don’t need to rest or you are a heavy sleeper then yes this is the perfect place for you. If not then look elsewhere.
- bonifacio (4/5): - Not what we expected, not what was on the website.
- Annalee (10/5): Exceptional - Everything !
- Elizabeth (10/5): You will wanna extend your stay - Everything!
- Stefani (9/5): Superb -
- Sylvia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janice (10/5): perfect stay! - One of our favorite stays in Mexico we had during our trip. Loved the design of the place and the rooms. Very friendly helpful staff. The welcome drink was the cutest thing ever. The place is walking distance from everything in the area. The car park service was great. Perfect stay!
- Janice (10/5): Stayed longer! - We booked extra nights because we loved it so much!
- danshiber (10/5): Lovely stay at the heart of San Cris - Beautiful room with very nice decor, super tall ceiling, and comfortable beds
Lovely staff that helps with everything
Amazing location right at the heart of San Cris
Older building so the room can get a bit humid
- Dan (8/5): Lovely stay at the heart of San Cris - Beautiful room, amazing location, lovely staff Older building so the room can get a bit humid
- Martin (9/5): Superb - such great comfort! very helpful and friendly staff, they helped us organize day trips to Palenque and more. so we’ll located just a minute away from the main square Nothing, except it’s just a little bit noisy with music playing in the patio
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shehani (5/5): We didn't enjoy his hotel at all and staff were not very helpful when we experienced a leak. - The hotel is well located but beyond that not much to recommend it apart from the restaurant which is good (though I certainly wouldn't say one of the best in the city). We found the staff largely unhelpful - they seemed put out when asked anything. Despite reporting a blocked loo three times, when they eventually looked at it the toilet overflowed all over the double suite into both rooms, covering a lot of our things. While the hotel did move us to another room and refund us some of the stay, it then took us to go back in person a week later to chase up the refund. The double room we booked was rather tired and bathrooms needed upgrading with nowhere to hang towels and strange sink/tap fixtures. Also not many areas to unpack clothes into.
- Edgar (10/5): - Muy buen lugar
- Yael (1/5): The worst hotel experience we had in Mexico - We stayed here for 4 nights and had a terrible experience.
The toilet was broken and it was flooded and plugged on a daily basis and sometimes several times a day. We spoke to the receptionist, which sent someone to help, but didn’t change our room and we stayed there for 4 nights! most of the staff was ok accept for the guy which was head of reception. He was absolutely unfriendly and looked as though we are really troubling him with the very first time we asked for help. He totally forgot to reserve our taxi for the next day (which paid upfront) and we had to find some other way to reserve a taxi at 05:30 AM!!!
lastly the hotel held a huge conference/ fiesta at our last night, which was held at the patio right outside our door. The noise and commotion was unreal for a hotel accommodating guests who just look for a quiet place at the end of the day. attached are some photos at the flood at our room while the conference outside.
San Cris is beautiful and there are so many beautiful hotels (and less expensive than this one), do yourself a favor and don’t spend your money or time here!! Terrible experience, room constantly flooded by broken toilet, terrible treatment by head of reception. Large conference at your door at night. Stay a way!!
- Iker (9/5): Superb -
- Iker (9/5): Superb - we only stayed there for one night on our way to Palenque. the place is clean, beautifully designed and convenient. shower water pressure was a bit too low and hot water took it time - not a big hustle though.
- Anna (10/5): - Friendly staff and beautiful hotel!
- Anna (10/5): - Wonderful and a very very unique hotel!
- 152saritap (10/5): Perfect - We stayed 2 nights in this hotel, perfect location, loved the decorations, friendly staff, shout out to pako the bartender for the delicious cocktails and breakfast was great too! Only thing to improve is the bathroom ventilation, made a lot of noise but besides that we had a wonderful stay.Thank you!
- klcoleridge (8/5): Cute hotel close to the center - First impression of this hotel is very good, the entrance and lobby are beautiful with lots of hanging plants and cute little decorations and details. Our check in was easy, both men that worked the reception desk during our stay were friendly and helpful. We booked a room with two beds and were very happy with the room-very beautifully designed and again the decorations and details very cute. Our only complaint would be the bathroom in the room, definitely needs an update. It has one of those plastic motor fans that comes on when you turn on the bathroom light and it is very very loud. The bathroom has a very large window so if you are traveling with other people and you need to use the washroom during the night you wake them up with the light and the sound of the fan. The overall cleanliness of the room/bathroom was good but not excellent, beds were clean which is the most important but we did find a few long hairs here and there on the floor and in the shower - this can easily be improved. We slept well only the second morning at around 7:45am we were woken by one of the staff in the lobby speaking very loudly and to be honest what he was saying was not very appropriate. The rooms are all facing the lobby so it is very easy to hear things if the lobby is not kept quiet, which I believe the staff should be aware of. Overall our experience with Sereno Art hotel was nice, got some beautiful pictures and the beds were comfortable. Shout out to Pako the bartender who was very friendly and made us some very delicious and unique cocktails!
- Alexa (10/5): - My mom and I had a great experience at this hotel. The area was perfect, it was super close to the center of the city and near many restaurants and shops. The front desk staff, Manuel and Cristian were super helpful and made sure our stay was comfortable. The rooms were super cozy and we loved the rustic feel. Will definitely be staying here again!
- twinkle07 (10/5): Cocktails and lunch was first class. - Staying in San Cristobal we have visited this fabulous restaurant twice. Once for a selection of evening cocktails the other for lunch.
Both occasions were first class, the food was superb with a varied menu and the cocktails tasted fabulous.
We would certainly visit again.
- X3224PYcesarp (10/5): Hotel sereno - Very excellent service i personally recommended this place the food is great the service is spectacular especially my friend manuel of reception is very helpful!!
Its only a block away from the main central of the the town very nice stay!👍👍
- Marc (10/5): - What a great property and location. The restaurant is also awesome.
- MarkSculpture (10/5): Great service from start to finish. - Thank you to the Sereno staff and Augustin for all your help during our stay in San Cristobal. From start to finish, you provided great service from organizing our pick up from the airport to making special meals when we felt under the weather and accommodating our late check-out. I would highly recommend anyone to stay at this lovely boutique hotel in San Cristobal.
- Fernanda (10/5): - Very quiet and clean. Everyone was nice. Bed really comfortable and relaxing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): El lugar perfecto!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I did not get the room I requested. They moved me to a family room at the same price which was okay, but not what was expected. The bed is extremely comfortable. Food is great.
- Alex (10/5): Something different - It was an amazing game experience. Hotel is very very unique and artistic. I staid in a cabin like room. Every room is a different design .
- Alexander (10/5): - Great stay!! Can’t wait to come back!
- natcoor (10/5): Great service, location and breakfast! - We stayed for 2 nights at this Mexican art hotel the service is beyond expectations they even gave us a breakfast lunch box one day for our tour!
The room is very spacious and clean, they transmitted the Super Bowl which was a nice detail and the room TV even has Netflix, the breakfast is delicious very well served Mexican dishes and Miguel the server was very kind.
The location is great walking distance from andador turístico and sightseeing monuments we definitely recommend this hotel and hope to be back soon Muchas gracias!
- Coline (6/5): You are paying the location - Good location, near Zocalo, however very noisy.
Missing window in my room, I have not been able to sleep the first night due to street noise. Next day, I've informed the reception, when I came back during the night, window was still not fixed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The courtyard was my favorite spot. The modern and traditional blend of decor was comfortable and pleasing
- Ronald (8/5): A little gem!! - When we arrived at our hotel, we were a little put off because although we phoned ahead and said we would be arriving on the midnight bus and assured all would be well, we had to ring about a dozen times before someone arrived from the amping building. However we were shown to our charming casita. It was cold in the room but after turning on the heater, and with the help of an extra blanket we felt comfortable. The bed was wonderful - the best we have had in our 3 week trip!
The casita sits in a private area in a lovely garden and has a nice hanging chair from which to relax and enjoy nature. It is called an art hotel for a reason - unique light fixtures, lamps and even bathroom taps! We loved it - rustic and chic at the same time,,
The staff were very accommodating and helpful. We originally had a reservation for 3 nights, but liked San Cristóbal so much we wanted to extend our stay for another 2 nights. Unfortunately they were about to begin a 2 month renovation and could not extend us. But they lined us up with a sister hotel just around the corner and we were very please with the ease of moving to another lovely location.
- transsolar (10/5): Great place and tasteful rooms in a good location - We really enjoyed our stay in this well located hotel. It was one of the lowest prices we paid for accommodation in our 4 week trip but so far the best room. The only thing we were missing were breakfast in the hotel and a few other details, but it wasn’t enough to take a full point off.
- Leoncal (10/5): Beautiful property, Great location and superb service - We spent only one night at this location. We had a big family room. the beds are fantastic. He hotel is 2 blocks away from the main square.
This hotel is part of the Casa del Alma Hotel organization. I recommend the restaurant at the Casa del Alma hotel, which is next door. The food is extraordinary and the service is outstanding
I would stay at one of the properties on my next visit to this beautiful town
- heymungbean (4/5): Great if you want to party, not so good for the tired traveller. - Sorry to say that we were disturbed by noise in this otherwise lovely hotel. The courtyard that all the rooms surround is sometimes used as an events space and music is pumped across it all day and into the evening. We would head out to the bars in town if we wanted music and were a bit frustrated to be kept awake when we were tired and wanted to chill. No other complaints about the place which is pretty to look at, well-located and comfortable. If they didn’t have a hotel / hostel identity crisis it would be a great place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Spacious, comfortable rooms in great location - Spacious comfortable rooms, great food, perfect location!
- Isabel (10/5): Perfect hotel - Sereno is a big house with few rooms. My room was very big and ckean with a lot of light. The bathroom also very big. The TV has Netflix. It is ine block from everything. So nice. Perfect and also cheap
- Abby (10/5): Luxurious hotel right in town - Luxurious hotel. Wish we could have stayed longer!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Loud dance music from hotel DJ until late night! - Our short stay in lovely San Cristobal was marred by two things. One, the bathroom (which was open to the rest of the room in the modern style, and without a curtain or frosted glass) smelt bad and because it was 'in' the main room we couldn't escape the smell. Two, and much more problematically, the hotel had one of its apparently regular performance nights on when we were there, which are held in the courtyard from where all the rooms are accessed. This wasn't an issue when a stand up comic was on, but was unbearable when ridiculously loud dance music was played until late into the night. This was so loud that when the music finally did stop, our ears were ringing with tinnitus. When I complained, the staff were friendly but explained that they couldn't do anything as it was "an art hotel" (which reading other negative reviews seem to be their catch-all excuse). This would be fair enough if the hotel website gave any indication that guests at their raves got priority over paying hotel guests, or if this were explained at check in, but neither of these were the case. So effectively our room could not be used as a hotel room (relaxing, reading, sleeping, etc) from about 8pm until nearly midnight. This was a shame as otherwise the hotel seemed nice in general and in a great location. My advice: whatever you do, call before you book and make sure one of these performance nights are not on.
- sophiej691 (4/5): Noisy - At first glance this seemed like a nice hotel. But two things really let it down. Firstly the bathroom in our room had a huge window with no curtain so you could see everything including the toilet from within the bedroom. Secondly and worst of all the hotel played LOUD music late into the evening. So loud our room was vibrating. It was like being in a nightclub.
- wonl530 (2/5): Looks pretty outside but all bad inside - The shower did not supply warm water. Even after alerting the issue, the same problem prevailed during my stay. The water force was exceedingly weak. We had to sand under the shower for a long time. The towels smelled horrible. When I lost my cell phone and need to make a urgent call to the US, the service staff did not know how to make calls outside of the hotel. They could not provide that basic service.
The design was not well conceived everywhere - no night lamp next to the bed, the light switches were hidden, and the music outside was loud.
Overall, a bad and horrible experience.
- tutaikuri (10/5): Chic - Close to the center ...
Staff very helpful and effective when engaged.
Our room was very spacious. The bed was very comfortable.
In summary - Serano Art Hotel - was a very pleasant and much better than expected accommodation experience.
Would go back here in a heart beat !
- briga2001 (8/5): Super cute place - Super cute place, I would stay here again. The beds are comfortable, location is centralized, walking distance from everything. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is also amazing. The only con is the water pressure and water temperature. I like hot water, it wasn't even warm 😐. But I would definitely recommend this place.
