Guest Reviews
- Monica (10/5): - Amazing family-run spot just a short walk to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve entrance. Great communication before and during our visit. A quiet place that makes you feel like you're in the cloud forest!
- Rachel (10/5): One of our favorites - This was our second stay here. We love the secluded feel with the "forest" at our back door. Easy walk to Cloud Forest entrance. Easy to walk or take taxi into town. The walk wasn't long, but back is a steep climb that our children complained about. Helpful and kind service.
- Srinidhi (10/5): - Great location, walking distance to entrance of Monteverde Cloud Forest! The front desk person was very sweet and helpful in guiding us - from parking in the property to where to eat and how to navigate the park. Staying here was a surreal experience, like you’re in the jungle/rainforest itself. We initially booked a normal room but asked whether we would have a kitchenette and the staff was very nice to upgrade us to the one bedroom apartment. Great amenities, would definitely come back and recommend others to stay here!
- mara h giavina (8/5): Nice place and awesome host - The location was very nice, our cabin was right at the woods and we saw an armadillo from our balcony at night.
The cabin is well equipped and charming. The only thing I would add is an explanation of how to use the air conditioner or hot air, I’m not sure.
Also as the clima is very humid, maybe offering an option to use a dryer for clothes.
- Ellyn (10/5): Great stay. - We stayed one night and had a great stay. Next to the reserve. Def need a vehicle. We were a family of 5 and there was enough beds and 2 bathrooms and kitchen. Felt secluded. Staff was great and very helpful. Would recommend.
- Lizbeth (8/5): - Very pretty location surrounded by trees and the rainforest. No AC in room but it was very cool. More like cabins so we were surprised by some little critters sneaking into our room.
- Judy (10/5): - Lovely property. The room was exceptionally clean. Comfortable bed and nice comfy pillows. Great patio to sit on. Close to birding spots and can bird on the property. The owners were very friendly and helpful. If we're ever back in Monteverde would definitely stay there again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others. Really enjoyed ourselves.
- Yang (10/5): - This property made by all woods, very cozy and clean, property owner is very kind and helpful, but they don't provide breakfast and don't go to the restaurant/hotel cross street. The food teast bad and expensive.
- Nayana (8/5): - Right near the park.
I thought breakfast was included.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel is very nice with reasonable prices! But the roads between La Fortuna and Monteverde were extremely bad. Dirt roads with lots of potholes!!
- Ryan (10/5): Great location...enjoyable stay - Stayed 2 nights. Family of four (2 adults and 2 kids).
The staff is very courteous and willing to help with anything from suggestions on tourist stops to restaurants.
The location is very close to the cloud forest. Yay!
The rooms are well cleaned and comfortable.
You’re surrounded by trees/forest (very scenic). As a bonus, we had monkey’s playing outside in the trees next to us!
Highly recommend!!
- Juan (10/5): - Short walk to Monteverde reserve. It is really peaceful and has a beautiful patio where you can watch wildlife. Can easily catch a bus to get into town, but is more isolated and peaceful compared to the busy town. Saw monkeys and toucans on the walk to the reserve.
- Prasad (10/5): - Very close to the cloud forest.
The staff is very courteous and willing to help you everyway possible.
The rooms are well built and located in a scenic area, you can watch the flora and fauna without stepping out! Highly recommend
- Michelle (8/5): - Very beautiful property, very comfortable beds. it is a bit out of the way so you either have to drive to access food and shopping, or are you have to be willing to walk a lot! Although it was called a B&B on the website, there was no breakfast included. That was surprising and disappointing That is my only criticism. Otherwise, it was lovely.
- William (10/5): - This Place is Awesome!
- Rochelle (8/5): - It’s basic, with good hot water. I thought breakfast was included, but not. Has bare necessities. People are kind.
- Cindy (10/5): Great Bed and Breakfast - Beautiful, quiet stay. Very close to the Monteverde cloud forest. Delicious made to order breakfast.
- GerrybNH (10/5): - Friendly family run business. Close to the reserve & town
- Alison (10/5): - very clean! Nice wooden beach and hammock outside of room, the room had a safe and hairdryer, no fridge. Extremely friendly staff. Better than the pics! The free breakfast was ok, eggs, toast, pancakes, fruit, etc., would definitely stay here again, I really felt like I was in the center of the rainforest with how lovely it was.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owners of this bed and breakfast are truly some of the best humans I’ve come across in my travels. So so helpful and kind, I can’t say enough good things about them. The property itself was very comfortable with some kitchen staples included (i.e., salt and pepper, a large selection of pots and pans as well as plates and utensils so you can easily cook your own meals if that’s what you’re into. Great stay! We hope to go back.
- Julie (10/5): - Such a great stay at this place! Gorgeous location and very comfortable rooms. Wish we could have stayed longer! The breakfast was delicious, as well. Very satisfied with our stay here.
- Sierra (10/5): - The staff was amazing, he was very helpful and informative, breakfast was great! WiFi in the room was great! Overall an amazing experience.
- Hannah (10/5): Brilliant Breakfast - The rooms are quite basic but comfortable, there are a few mosquitos around but you are in a cloud forest so a few creepy crawlies are expected. Esteban is lovely and helped us book tours and transfers, the pancakes were amazing. The laundry service was so reasonable and so fast we got our laundry back and dry within a few hours!
It is tricky to get to without a car but you can walk to the national park and to Santa Elena easily. We ate at a hostel up the road in the evenings, it is only a 5 minute walk.
- Andrea (10/5): Great Stay! - My wife and I had a really great stay at Mariposa! It was very simple yet memorable. There is no air conditioner or heater in the room we stayed. It's only 5-10 minutes from San Elena. It's located in the mountain, so you wouldn't have to worry about getting hot, but it can get little chilly. We definitely recommend this hotel!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Spacious, beautiful. Feels like you are in the jungle. Awesome .
- Chad (8/5): - Really amazing location, hospitality was excellent. The beds were among the noisiest I've ever heard. If I turned over, my wife woke up and vice versa. We used separate beds since one was a full size and the other a twin. Wish there was a king or queen option. Had some issues with bugs crawling on me during the night, but nothing major. Overall, a good experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is a good place to unwind and the property is also very well maintained. We liked our room and there was also a safe available. It is a family run place and they do a good job, Stefan was very polite and nice he even showed Armadillo to my son and he was so happy. I would for sure go again.
- XiaoChen (10/5): Wonderful stay - I love this hotel. Beautiful setting. Breakfast was delicious. The staff was so sweet. Highly recommend.
- Delphine (10/5): - Very well located nearby the Monteverde Reserve. This Bed and Breakfast is charming and the hosts are very welcoming . Breakfast was good . The lodging was big and the two bedrooms had their own bathroom .
- Lynn (10/5): - I can't say enough great things about the accommodations and the family that owns and runs the b&b . It was fantastic! Definitely will be back in the future. Surrounding area very safe. Full of wildlife and things to see and do. They so want to share their beautiful country.
- melissa (10/5): Manifico - Great place to stay. Stefan was very courteous and very knowledgeable. The b&b even did our jungle funk laundry for a small, reasonable fee. Monteverde is such a beautiful place. Breakfast was delicious and the staff was tremendous. 5 minute drive to the cloud forest and close to the surrounding community. Recommend the cheese factory. Would definitely stay again. Pura vida!
- Deborah (10/5): Great apartment! - We had an amazing stay at the Mariposa. We had a two bedroom apartment, with a kitchen and dining/living area. We loved eating breakfast looking at hummingbirds and flowers.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful property, quiet and peaceful. The owners were amazingly kind, when our rental car had a flat tire, they spent hours helping us fix the flat! Couldn't have asked for better, more helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is a nivce simple place to stay with great natural lighting. The staff is very friendly. Monteverde can get cold at night and very few if any rooms have heating, so bring some warm clothes. Extra blackets were provided and worked well.
- Julia (10/5): - Very close to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Charming setting and room furnished in good taste. Good shower (hit and miss in some CR hotels). The host is very friendly, helpful with suggestions, and makes a personalized "gallo pinto" breakfast for you.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Convenient location, very near Monteverde reserve.
The staff was very friendly. The rooms were bare but spacious.
Unfortunately my husband was bitten by something while he was asleep and he woke up with a swollen eye that lasted for a few days. The rooms could be better cleaned.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Simple but clean, next to cloud forest - Simple accommodation, directly next to the cloud forest. Super friendly and helpful host.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to the cloud forest, great service. - I enjoyed staying in this lovely lodge during my trip to Monteverde. The standard room met our needs (2 beds, towels) during our stay, but it's bare bones (no TV or toiletries but that's not too important to me). Listen to the loud cicadas at night and enjoy the night view!
Location is really close to Monteverde Cloud Reserve and driving distance to restaurants, coffee shops, etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Drove in from La Fortuna--extremely dangerous and difficult drive. Esteban at the front desk was VERY KIND and FRIENDLY. Room was very clean, but bed was hard/uncomfortable; we made do. Breakfast was deliciously prepared!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Small and cozy hotel with excellent breakfast - Close to the Monteverde reserve and away from the city traffic.
- melissa (10/5): Secluded, peaceful and welcoming family business. - Little family run business on the road about a km from Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Estevan welcomed us and showed us our cabin (1 of three in a row). After lots of rain and mud (we came in the rainy season), the warm shower was lovely (many places we stayed in Costa Rica did not have warm water or good pressure showers). The cabin was warm and clean and comfortable, the bathroom clean and basic. The breakfast was fresh and delicious, fruit and our choice of eggs and toast or pinto gallo. and coffee. Would stay again.
- Joanne (10/5): Lovely bed and breakfast close to the park - We stayed in the apartment which was a lovely, all wood and tile and windows, two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a full kitchen. Hot water showers. Nice couch outside had a great view of trees, meadow and emerald toucanet living out on the tree. Breakfast was delicious and Esteban a great host. I would definitely recommend this place for a couple or family. It is helpful to have a car as it is out of town. Bring a sweater as it is cold at this elevation!
- Lindsey (10/5): - Simple lodge style accommodations about 2 miles from downtown. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a short, yet lovely stay here. The family that runs it are incredibly kind and helpful. The B&B is about a 5 minute drive from the Monteverde Reserve, and it is only a short drive to other restaurants/coffee shops. It is tucked away in the hill side and quite calm and secluded. We would recommend this to family and friends.
- McCast (10/5): Perfect location - The staff was more than welcoming ! Breakfast is awesome ! You have to try the pancakes ! The cabins are ok not a 5 star Deluxe hotel but hey, you’re in Costa Rica in the middle of the jungle ! It’s clean and perfectly located close to Monteverde national park. I would go back in a heartbeat ! Thanks for the great service !
- mike (10/5): Beautiful setting, fabulous location and price! - Stayed in 2br apartment at Mariposa b&b. It is at end of monteverde road almost to reserve so easy morning access. The apartment has 2 doubles and 2singles, and was perfect for family of 4. Up in trees with picture window view of surrounding mountains thru trees. Easy rental car access. Breakfast was great made to order, and Esteban is family owner/reception who was quick to help! Great find and price was great (especially compared to other parts of CR). Highly recommend!!
- HARVEY (8/5): Excellent B&B close to Monteverde national Park - Room very pleasant; small terrace in front of room with bench. Satisfactory bathroom. Could be chilly at nights, but extra blanket provided. Excellent breakfast served by charming host. Good restaurants a short drive away. Parking was adjacent to room. Very close (2km) to National Park entrance.
- lynda (8/5): - Wonderful hosts, great breakfast, quaint room.
- Nishith (10/5): Good value for money in Monteverde - Great rooms with beautiful views of the cloud forest. The staff were very friendly with great breakfast. Highly recommended.
- Richard (8/5): Amazing location for wildlife. - A wonderful location next to a primary rain forest. Our only reservation was the open ceiling vents between rooms which meant it was almost as if you were in the same room! Otherwise the place is brilliant and the staff all very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend the river trip on the Saraquipi. A great way to see wild life up close.
- Michael (8/5): Amazing service in an amazing place - The service provided here was top notch. From breakfast in the morning to ordering us Pizza in the evening, the front desk staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms were rustic, but they were clean and comfortable. My only complaint was the hot water in the bathrooms. There is an on demand heater right in the shower head which warmed up the water from cold to somewhat warm, which made for quick showers.
- Vickie (8/5): Sweet B & B near Monteverde Reserve. - The staff at Mariposa B & B were very knowledgeable and helpful, the location was walking distance to the Monteverde Reserve, and the breakfast was great. The room we had was a bit small, but I'd gladly stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Had a wonderful time at la Mariposa. Esteban was very attentive and helpful. The location is a close walk to preserve, yet is nicely tucked away. Breakfast was also great. Would absolutely stay again.
- Emma (10/5): Great location, good value, highly recommend - Located close to monteverde reserve and curicancha reserve and walking distance to some good restaurants (remember to bring flash lights for walking at night). Great value, very clean rooms and an excellent home made breakfast. Family which run the B&B are very helpful, always available and helped us book a great night hike.
