• kumudd2024 (10/5): A Perfect Honeymoon Stay in the Black Hills - My wife and I stayed at the Bavarian Inn, Black Hills from May 30 to June 2, 2025, for our honeymoon and it turned out to be one of the best experiences of our lives! From the moment we checked in, the hospitality was incredible. The lady at the reception learned we were newlyweds and surprised us with freshly baked cookies in our room such a thoughtful gesture that made our stay even more special. The room was spotless, cozy, and comfortable, giving us the perfect retreat after long days of exploring. The inn’s location is fantastic just a short drive to Custer State Park, Iron Mountain Road, Mount Rushmore, and Badlands National Park. We even completed the Black Elk Peak trek, which was unforgettable! Don’t miss breakfast at their in-house Feel good cafe, the food is delicious, portions are generous, and prices are very reasonable. Thank you, Bavarian Inn, for making our honeymoon so warm and memorable. We can’t wait to be back someday!

The refrigerator freezer compartment was badly in need of defrosting. The bathtub had no safety mat or traction surface, so it was SUPER slippery - to the point where my wife could not use it. As we grow older, safety handles and traction approaches are necessary for us to get full use of the facility.

• David (10/5): - Staff was wonderful. Whole experience was relaxed, restful and homey; not some corporate, impersonal, glass, steel, and plastic, cookie-cutter type hotel. Very pet friendly. Very thoughtful amenities such as a free laundry room. I have never seen that before, but it was a pleasant surprise. Bed was very comfortable. Restaurant on the property was open for breakfast and was a great experience. Again, great staff, good food, and very relaxed, mellow atmosphere. Very convenient to all the local attractions. Custer was a nice town with several good restaurants and not overrun with tourist trap shops. I was very tempted to extend my stay and make this my home base when traveling about the area. I would recommend doing that if you plan on spending several days in the area. This is definitely the place to stay in the Black Hills area.

It was worth it to be in a big bubble bath and then just crawl into a comfy bed and go to sleep. I slept so well. It’s super convenient to Custer And it’s a nice little breakfast restaurant as part of the Inn.

We were on a road trip to visit South Dakota for the first time and stayed here for one night, but easily could have stayed longer. The staff were super friendly, kind, and accommodating - especially traveling with a pup. You can pull your car up right to your room, which makes loading and unloading easy. The amenities are great - laundry, pool, pickleball and basketball, breakfast on site, cookies, etc. And lots of grass for potty breaks if you have a pup. It's also close to town and (20-30 minute scenic drives) to hiking and all the different attractions, which is nice. The only microscopic downsides were: the facility does not have a restaurant on premises that serves dinner (you have to go downtown). However, the rooms have a fridge and microwave - so, bring your own snacks and you'll be set. Also, if you're 6' tall, the ceilings are a little low and the sink sits below your waist to where you have to bend down a bit. But that's about it. It's such a lovely property, we would stay here again in the future!

It was quaint & charming in the best way—with modern conveniences. We chose a second floor room and it was very quiet; stairs only, which didn’t bothers us, but choose first floor if mobility issues. Only wish we could’ve stayed longer!

• Bethany (10/5): - This hidden gem just 1 mile up the hill from downtown Custer is absolutely gorgeous! It feels like you stepped into the mountains of Germany or Switzerland. There are flowers everywhere. There’s an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a hot tub. The front desk staff greeted us and was there to answer all of our questions and offer dining suggestions. There is milk and cookie time at 3:30. Laundry facilities are free and detergent is provided. The room was large and the bed super comfortable! We were so impressed that we decided to say a second night. It is very central to anything you want to do in the Black Hills, only 20 to 30 miles from most of the major attractions. Additionally, the room price was reasonable, around $128 on Expedia. Would highly recommend!

• Lee (5/5): Cute exterior, not so nice interior - Super cute exterior. Clean pool and spa. Free washer and dryer facilities , super nice staff. Restaurant on site. Towels smelled funny, not enough toilet paper. Thin walls, tired carpet, interior looked sort of like an old office building.

• Perrin (10/5): - Great find! We were at Crazy Horse and found this randomly. The room was nice and the bathroom were clean. They have free laundry machines to use with everything. The staffing took care of us as soon we came in and gave us the best deal they had. The coffee shop next door is awesome as well for breakfast
• Robert (6/5): - This was filled as a hotel, but was a drive up to the room motel. It was two floors with a very tall, dilapidated walkway upstairs. I would not recommend staying here.
