Guest Reviews
- traveladvisor98 (2/5): Motel Canceled My Reservation - Shortly before my trip I got a phone call from the owner that she canceled my reservation because we had only booked one night and she refused to honor our reservation due to that. When I asked her why this was not informed to me when I booked the stay her response was condescending and rude. The excuse she gave was that it was due to COVID-19. If she was accepting other reservations she should have accepted ours and not discriminate against us because we only booked one night. She canceled shortly before our trip which means we had no place to stay. This facility is not a place you can count on.
- Sandy (8/5): - Cute little motel. Basic but has what you need. Yummy muffins for breakfast too.
- Joanna (10/5): A ttt - Excellent stay, thank you for great accommodations!
- AJ (10/5): - Great place to stay for a short trip to Okemo and/or surrounding area. Although a little outdated, clean room with very hospitable staff. I do recommend this place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The family that runs this motel
Will go out over there way Accommodate
For you..price is very reasonable...
They hook us up huge after another place fall though on us last minute..
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Vermont charm. Nice staff, rooms are quanit, but comfortable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The fact that they were pet friendlly was the initial draw but its beautifully kept with very friendly and helpful staff
- Odieoden2013 (10/5): Satisfied client - Great place to stay for my adventures in vermont, fell asleep on the front porch in a chair the place had such character, they allow dogs!!! If you want Concierge or room service and Starbucks coffee go back to Boston and New York City!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place was good ole country charm. Nice and neat, clean, no frills. Exactly what we needed. Great personal and family feel.
- drverrico (8/5): Oldie but goodie - Although an old property, every thing was up to date regarding, paintung, cleanlyness etc.
There was more than an ample supply of towels.
Free coffee, cereal and homemade muffins made for a nice continental breakfast.
Pat, the owner is gracious
- EmilyJoan11 (10/5): Perfect for a short stay on the way to Okemo - This is your basic motel - 2 normal sized queen beds with an efficient bathroom - a nice added feature for the summer time is the front porch with table and chairs. We stayed here for one night (husband and 2 teenagers) since Chester is less than 30 minutes to Okemo. The town is really cute with several good restaurants. The motel has a really cute gift shop and they serve coffee with muffins in the morning. The price was perfect!! If you need 5-star fancy accommodations with all the bells and whistles and a lot of square feet for a room, then this is not your place. We found this to be a perfect spot, clean, efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel staff was very nice, but the rooms seemed a bit rundown. Really appreciated the homemade muffins and coffee in the morning though, and the proxiimity to okemo was very convenient.
- BL (10/5): - The people that run this property couldn't be nicer. For the price, this fits the bill! As my 15 yr old son said, I'll take friendly over amenities every time! It's a very affordable place to stay to hit great skiing, the room was clean and spacious and the staff were just good people. We will definitely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quick check in. Easy to find. A bit outdated, but probably OK for motel
- Daniel (10/5): Nice place on a snowy night. - An old but wonderfully cozy motel. No splash but rather a welcoming place with a nice breakfast. Firm comfortable beds with no dust bunnies under them
We would happily visit again
- Verified traveler (4/5): Needs updating. Really small bathroom. - It is very outdated. Wasn't bad for being out dated but the bathroom was really ancient and tiny could barley move in there. I believe some extreme updating is needed and can be done without losing the charm of the area. Wasn't in the room very long got in late left early. Did not do a close inspection. Beds were uncomfortable. The front office and gift shop are really outdated feels like someones front room in an old house. Was overly cluttered. Not a professional business feeling. No Wi-Fi, no cell service.
- Patricia032 (6/5): 1960's - I am torn about writing this review because I am fully aware that in that part of the country dollar doesn’t stretch too far, and people were very friendly there so I did not want to write a negative review. So I decided to be fair and let people make their own opinions . This is a matter of opinion or taste. For some this motel will have a rustic charming vibe for me it is dated. With 70’s varnished cladding pine walls but it wasn’t an alpine bungalow just a typical square motel. The rooms has no telephone or internet. The only WiFi available was in the reception area. A old TV was hanged on a wall and small fridge and microwave in the room proved to be handy. The bathroom was very small but very clean. No hairdrier available.
The location over the main road VT11 so easy to find. Check in easy. The reception shares the floor with a gift shop with little cute souvenirs. As typical of motels you can park outside your room and there is a couple of chairs for those you like to seat outside their rooms.
As a say before the friendliness of the people there is amazing but some guest now a days may miss the access to WiFi and you may be lucky and get a room that look like the pictures. Unfortunately my one did not.
- Diane (8/5): Stop over on our way to ny - Basic no frills motel....check in was quick..owner very friendly....room small queen room....but big enough for us...had a chair..plus..table with 2 chairs...frig microwave....bathroom with shower only...everything clean and comfortable...breakfast was coffee..muffins...assorted cereals....muffinz were warm and yummy...daughter was very friendy and welcoming ....we would stay there again..nice little rustic motel...gift shop small but well organized
- Terry (8/5): - Nice small mom and pop motel.
- LynnJ27 (8/5): Worked for a night - Like some other reviewers, for me this was like stepping back in time. It is like the motels I stayed at with my parents in the 1960's. We had a room with a singe queen bed. In looking at the photos on Trip Advisor, obviously some of the rooms are larger. This room was small and the bathroom was very small, no tub with a very small shower stall. That said, it was clean and was comfortable enough for a night. It does have a certain charm to it. There are some modern touches like wifi and a microwave and fridge in the room. The area is quiet and the owner was friendly. I liked the chairs outside the door where I sat and enjoyed the evening.
- Jane (6/5): - The room was not fancy at all, but it was clean and comfortable.
- Bev (8/5): - staff were very accommodating and nice. The room was clean and comfortable.
- Susan (6/5): - 1950s decor, tiny rooms; old smell, dissipated from arrival to return by leaving window wide open
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent beds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely little motel, extremely clean and pleasant staff
- Verified traveler (4/5): Ugh! - Ok, we are finishing a trip where we stayed in 5 motels/hotels for 7 nights, and this place was the worst, and close to the worst ever (we are 75 and 74 and travel alot). The room was small/cramped, the only blanket on the bed had dog or cat hair on it (likely washed with other things with pet hair on them), the shower stunk, and there was no breakfast (I knew there was no breakfast when I booked it). Would we go back? Never.
- Ira (10/5): - This is not a luxury hotel. But it's clean, the bed was great, the Wi-Fi worked well and the staff was helpful. That's all I wanted.....
- KK (10/5): - The lady owner is sooo amazing & thoughtful about guest that she made sure we have no issue .. she checked personally & we were sold when we requested for coffee in common place as we were leaving early morning and to our surprise , she not only personally brought the coffee machine with sugar /milk & cup cakes so we will not leaving empty stomach .. I highly recommend ate this place
- Ernest (10/5): - Great for a simple cozy place to stay for overnight or couple of days
- D (8/5): - It was nice but the Tv's are older style and flickered till it warmed up. Also no shampoo in the bathroom.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Simple and Nice - Fast checkin..comfortable..simple
- Jez (6/5): Ok, no frills - You get what you pay for. The rooms are small, as are the bathrooms. The decor and furnishings are dated, but it cheaper than most other accommodation, in the area. We stayed for 1 night, so it was fine for us.. It is located a mile or so out of town, next to the road, with a meadow around it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice quiet place - Stayed for one night. Very good experience. Had fresh muffins and coffe in the morning which was a bonus. Will stay here again if the need arises.
- Harriet (8/5): Close to our friend - Motel owner friendly . Room clean. Nice muffins for breakfast.
- ChannahAbraham (8/5): Quaint, Clean, Friendly & Reasonable - This rustic motel just outside of Chester is a slice of mid-twentieth century Americana. That quaintness is part of is charm, as is the friendly and accommodating proprietor who checked us in. The bathroom was scrupulously clean, a good indicator that the carpeted bedroom floor and bed linens are, too. Combined with reasonable 21st century room-rates, this place is a win-win.
- lovethebeach82762 (6/5): Like an old travel lodge - We reserved two rooms. One with just queen bed and one with two queen beds. The room with just a queen bed is VERY small, and has a terrible musty smell. The rooms only have a window AC unit and the owner does not turn them on before the quests arrive so the room is SOOO hot...it took til almost 10 pm before we thought we could even sleep in there. It honestly at one point was cooler outside You will need to bring your own shampoo and soap...what is left in room won't work. Also, a blow dryer if you need one. The sheets on bed are clean and they provided us with plenty of towels. In the morning they provide you with coffee and muffins in the office. They do provide wi fi which was nice since my cell service didn't work there. At least we were able to communicate with our family by the internet. There are no phones in room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was nice and quiet and although the room was smaller than I had anticipated it was adequate. There were some sugar ants to contend with and no telephone. Overall, I'd stay there again. Staff was marvelous.
- island_rabbit (8/5): A little outside of town, but very quiet with small rooms. - We stayed here based on TA reviews.
The hotel is located on the outskirts of town. It is a family run hotel. The double room we rented was small but adequate and clean. The lobby area includes a small gift shop with a lot of local kitsch.
The owners were very helpful in recommending restaurants. There was an included breakfast which included fresh muffins and pastries.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice place to stay, convenient for going to Okemo Mountain. Thermostat in the room allowed for control of temperature and we appreciated the cereal and muffins in the morning as an alternative to going out to a diner before hitting the slopes. Would definitely stay here again for the price
- B478GJjamesl (4/5): No hot water - My son and i stayed here recently on a guys ski weekend. When we checked in the room was clean and comfortable. I would have given this a high rating for the price but we woke up Sunday morning, 15 degree morning, to no hot water. When i went to the desk i was told, "yeah it probably ran out because everyone took a shower at the same time and that he had told the owner the boiler is too small but they did nothing about it." They didn't offer to refund me any of the price of my stay, so i took a cold sponge bath. Don't think i will come back
- GARY (10/5): Perfect pit stop before skiing up north - We had a very pleasant experience from check-in to check-out. Well worth the stay and definitely be visiting again.
- Chris (10/5): located for skiing in Vermont..Super Value - This is my kind of place. Good people. Nice and clean and comfortable. I even got upgraded to an efficiency. I was up to do some skiing and it is close to Stratton Bromley and Okemo and Magic Etc. Hot coffee and warm home made muffins in the morning get you going. Chester is a great town. Bucolic and what you think of when you think Vermont in winter. If you are a city type person who like that kind of stuff this won't be for you. However, I loved it and will be back next time I'm up. Good honest people.
- skier (10/5): Quaint clean motel close enough to Okemo Mountain. - The motel was clean and very quaint. I would return when I plan another ski weekend at Okemo Mountain. Heat worked well and beds comfortable. Warm homemade muffins and hot coffee offered a great start to each morning. Relaxing 20 min drive to ski resort was no problem. At night a restaurant/bar a few doors down was very convenient and food was good.
- AJ (8/5): nice motel close to ski slopes - Cozy bedroom, excellent and very helpful staff, 2 minutes to Okemo. Small breakfast is included and was perfectly light for a full morning of skiing. Bathroom in the room was surprisingly nice, great water pressure from the shower and good ventilation. Wifi worked okay but wasn't a deal breaker. Would recommend.
- cttraveler9 (8/5): Great Location, Clean & Comfortable - Stayed here with my family on a recent trip to VT for skiing. The motel was very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly. And the location was perfect - close to Bromley & Okemo. Also, it is right outside downtown Chester which is an adorable VT town with some really nice shops and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.
- ERICH (8/5): Nice place to stay. - Clean, rustic, super local atmosphere. Very nice family business. The office had a little Shop that smelled great with all kinds of local products. Nice little spread for breakfast. Delicious organic milk for cereal, and some yummy muffins. Good coffee. The room was nice and warm.
- 235tonyg (8/5): Clean & comfortable - We were looking for one night budget lodging near Okemo ski resort. This was about 10 miles (20 minutes) away but perfect for our needs. The room met our 4"C" requirement: Clean, Comfortable, Cozy and Cheap. Very friendly and helpful staff too. There was also complementary morning coffee, tea, juice, muffins and breakfast cereal in the office/gift shop which saved us time in getting to the ski area. Its a small mom/pop style place about half way between two ski areas (Okemo and Bromley).
- Anthony (8/5): Clean, comfortable and cozy. - The one night motel stay was nice. The room was small but CLEAN, Comfortable, Cozy and
Cheap. Perfect for an affordable stay near enough to Okemo ski resort. We value the above four "C"s above anything else for short stays. There was complementary coffee, juice, tea, muffins and cereal in the office/gift shop in the morning. This saved us time in getting out to ski. This is a small, mom/pop style motel with no frills and priced right for our budget.
- massbayreviewer (8/5): clean -- fine - I wuld return - I had a friendly reception at this little motel. Room was clean and bed was fine. Park right in front of your room. A mile from "downtown" Chester lets you access the restaurants easily. Price was reasonable.
- Robert (8/5): - The room was small but clean and comfortable. The motel provides free coffee and a variety of cold cereals in the AM. I was solo and simply needed a room to crash for the night between days of skiing at Okemo. Price was less than anywhere in Ludlow but it is about 14 miles from Okemo.
- Mary (10/5): Easy stay to ski Okemo - Very comfortable, quiet and relaxing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location, clean, and friendly - Clean room, friendly staff, had a great stay. Would recommend to a friend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great spot for okemo, stratton, weekend ......good value......very friendly staff
good muffins!!!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Almost spotless, budget friendly - Decent hotel for the price. The room was spotless with the exception of a folded blanket on the bed that had animal fur on it. My allergies did act up during my stay, not sure if this was due to the animal fur or something else. Staff very friendly.
- lorrlab (8/5): Friendly staff - The staff was so kind. We called last minute to chase the snow for New Years Eve weekend with a pet and 2 kids. They called the restaurants and found us options for a nice NYE dinner and gave so many dog friendly suggestions for x-country skiing and snow shoeing. They let us have a late checkout so we could ski with the family on the local snowmobile trail. For the room, it was simple and clean with a microwave and fridge. They have a great meadow where the kids and dog played in the snow and we stargazed. It was all that we needed and we had a great weekend.
On Note: it was only 20 min to the nearest ski resort and the town was lovely with an amazing outdoor rec park with free sledding, skating and snowmobiling trails.
- Douglas (8/5): Old School Hospitality - Pat was wonderful, helpful and friendly. Gift store great. Hotel is old school with many cute throw back things such as sign in cards and real keys for the room. Room was comfortable and clean, but dated and could use some upgrades, but everything worked as it should. Shower water hot and with good pressure. Would have liked a deadbolt on the door and perhaps shampoo. Warm muffins in AM were the best.
- 184margeryn (8/5): Traditional motel, would go back. - Classic 'motel' run by a family, who was very accommodating, even when our group had some change in plans and took another room for the 2nd night. Rooms have an outdated style but are clean and comfortable. Bathroom was spotless but didn't provide anything but bar soap and towels.
And all the other reviews are right; the coffee and muffins served in the office are wonderful.
- Kim (8/5): Price is right! - This was our first time at the Motel in the Meadow, and we needed an affordable option, convenient to our final destination early the day following our arrival. The motel staff was very friendly and helpful, despite our late arrival time (close to 10:30 pm). The room was very basic, but clean and comfortable, and the shower was really good (lots of hot water with good pressure after a long drive!). There are nice touches like chairs in front of each room on the porches. While the property is located along a popular route, the road/traffic noise was negligible. We had to leave early (5:30 am) so missed out on the coffee and home made muffins for breakfast.
- James (10/5): Mr Jim Wilson - Innkeeper welcome a pleasant way she cooked a wonderful breakfast room was very clean only 11 minutes from Okemo Mountain for skiing will go back in a heartbeat
- Monta Lee (10/5): - Homemade muffins every morning. Really good! Gift shop is amazing.
- 832janetr (6/5): Nice Place! - The motel was just fine for an overnight stay and we were happy to support a non-chain business. The room could have been a little cleaner, but it didn't bother us one bit. We'll gladly stay there again!
- Homecroft56 (8/5): Comfortable stay - We stayed here in October to be close to the train ride the next morning. This is a 1960's era motel with small rooms, but very clean and easy to park right in front of your room. The owner lives on site and is very friendly and helpful and offers a small continental breakfast. The room needs a chair so you can sit and watch TV rather than having to sit on the bed.
- Milton (10/5): Small but perfect, loved our stay. - Really great place to stay. The mum and daughter who run it are really lovely and gave great advice about local area. Coffee, cereal and muffin were an unexpected treat. There's a little gift shop in reception full of beautiful hand made things. It's quite small but felt lovely and clean, would highly recommend it. The quilting shop nearby is amazing. Oh and it was beautifully decorated for Halloween.
- Marc (8/5): Nice clean motel - Nice stay, clean and good location.
- Liz (4/5): Cute little place, not worth the price. - Came for the Spartan Race weekend, motel was about 1 hour away from the venue. Chosen due to cleanliness reviews and price. Room was very clean, albeit old fashioned, which was fine. I will say probably one of the only motels I've stayed at where I didn't feel congested from dust and dirt the next day. Saw a couple spiders but that's kind of to be expected in the mountains. Good wifi. Room was VERY small. Enough for a bed, desk and table all close together. Small bathroom with tiny stand-up shower. No refrigerator, no hair dryer, no shampoo/conditioner offered, but there is a Dollar General about a mile down the road so could make do. Front desk was super friendly and nice. Breakfast offered was cereal and muffins.
- trippingonward (8/5): Adorable, comfortable, clean and warm homemade muffins too - This is a super cute, homey,family-run small motel. The kind where the owners greet you and you park your car in front of your room. Exceedingly friendly, very clean, old fashioned in a good way. Country decor, comfy chairs on the deck "porch" in front of each room. The rooms are not fancy-- bring your own shampoo and hairdryer-- but i was quite happy with a simple TV and wiFi that worked well. Would recommend this motel without hesitation to families or anyone, actually. Good value. My room had a frig.
- PradeepCP1 (10/5): Awesome stay! - Excellent motel to stay with family!!! If you are in Ludlow and Chester area this is the place to stay! The owner is very nice and accommodating your needs. Me and my family throughly enjoyed staying here. Beautiful Victorian type of hotel. Morning breakfast and the home made muffins were yummy :)
Highly recommended.
- Madbysummer (10/5): Sweet sweet Motel in the Meadow in beautiful Chester - We were visiting friends in Chester and stayed at the motel for five nights. This was a real treat. Safe and familiar and the nicest staff. We had a small room but will ask for the one with kitchen next time to be able to cook. I loved coming out here after a whole day of visiting around the State of Vermont. Close to restaurants, the town pool and they even served breakfast and coffee in the morning. You could sit on the porch just outside your room to relax. Parking was easy. Wonderful place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great spot in Vermont. - We only stayed one night. It was nice and quiet, despite the fact that it was 4th of July weekend. We had a blast with our little boys and the room was well equipped so the kids were very comfortable and felt at home. We loved hearing the birds and frogs, and the warm muffins in the morning!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Disappointed - Disappointed. Especially since Hotels.com had given it such a high rating. Lost abit of confidence in you guys
