Guest Reviews
- Lloyd (9/5): -
- Binh (10/5): -
- Barry (7/5): With better maintenance and some refurbishing Grand Hotel can become Grand again. Enjoyed our stay. Lived Vung Tau. - Room size big, excellent buffet breakfast, pool beautiful, staff helpful and location great. No elevator to room floors, carpet walkways badly worn and need replacing, the hotel is aging and needs better maintenance. Pool edging is cracked and worn and can cause cuts.
- Tony (7/5): -
- Quỳnh (7/5): - Giường xộc xệch tạo ra tiếng động
- Brett (8/5): Excellent apart from no elevator when you’re on the 3rd floor. Staff were excellent couldn’t do enough for us. - Across the road from the beach & just down the road from the ferry No elevator
- Loan P. (10/5): - L'accueil
Rien
- Quang Huy (8/5): -
- Mj (9/5): - It was spotlessly clean and the staff were lovely. Absolutely. Nowhere I could hang my laundry to dry.
- Michael (10/5): Excellent value - Great location, clean spacious rooms
- Thi (7/5): -
- Andy (9/5): Spacious rooms - Rooms spacious Bathroom shower low flow as were taps
- paul (9/5): Very good & great location - Old hotel good value , you get wot you pay for 😊 Nothing

- Ramsawak (7/5): - Everything was great as well as the service
- Huynh (6/5): -
- Bruce (5/5): Nothing really negative to say. However, the Hotel looks a little ‘tired’. - Nice Asian breakfast. It was served in Hotel next door.
- Tonje (8/5): - Beliggenhet, behagelige senger, hyggelig personell og god valuta for pengene. Eldre rom.
- Sean (6/5): - Very dated with no lift
- Khanh (8/5): Pleasant stay. Will come back again. - Room is spacious, clean. Location is opposite the beach and easy to walk to center of the town. Staff friendly. The wall power outlets are old design and very loose.
- Yvette (10/5): Wonderful staff and rooms were huge - an overall amazing time - Historic and beautiful, great location I had to leave

- Michael (7/5): Good location, clean and reasonably priced, however it wasvery dated. - It was in a great position with restaurants and bars nearby and the beach across the road It was very dated with hard beds and limited hot water

- Lê (9/5): -
- John (7/5): -
- Chris (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff.
- James (9/5): Very nice upmarket hotel in Vung Tau - Room was very nice, lots of bars and food options within easy walking distance, foreshore straight across the road, nice little cafe on the premises, wifi was really good, I was connected in the bar around the corner
- Kok (7/5): Good -
- Luong (8/5): good location to stay - good bed don’t have elevator
- Jaclyn (7/5): Good -
- Anh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jones (3/5): Great Bones BUT Very, Very Tired! - The location is great but that's about where the "good" ends. It would have been wonderful in its day but sadly that day is long past. It is worthy of note that there are minor ongoing refurbishments of rooms. Once again, sadly our room was not one of them. Our room, although spacious and nicely furnished, had significant peeling wallpaper and paint. The bathroom is very dated. Our view was of rusted rooftop out the back of the hotel – considering we booked for 5 nights and were one of the few guests, it was less than favourable.
The hotel generally is being used as a meeting/conference venue. Occasionally (mainly on weekends) locals from Ho Chi Minh are in evidence. Despite what the website indicates, the restaurant and bar are no longer operational and the gym is under repairs. You are required to go to the adjacent sister property (the Palace) for breakfast.
Despite the accommodation and public areas supposedly being non-smoking, there is a strong cigarette smell everywhere.
The staff try their best but appear as faded and tired as the property (not that I blame them with so little to occupy them). In most cases, very little proactive interaction with guests.
We were extremely disappointed with the Currency Exchange service. Most good hotels throughout Vietnam now offer currency exchange at the daily bank rate. I was led to believe this was a government initiative. Therefore, I was surprised and disappointed that The Grand offered a rate 25% lower than the posted bank rate – that is a rort, not a service.
I would be reluctant to revisit this property. If you like the area, then The Palace (right next door) is a far better option.
- Claudine (6/5): Disappointing - The history appealed to us and the room was clean but the whole hotel could use some love. Pool was nice but we had to find our own cushions and towels. The whole place is really run down. Shares pool and breakfast with the adjacent Palace Hotel which is ok but no bar to have a drink in and no charm.
- William (9/5): Grand old hotel in the best part of town for nightlife. - Grand old hotel in the best part of town. Beautiful oceanside park across the street and a block of bars around the corner. This is the old French hotel of Vung Tau that has been haphazardly modernized over the years. My room was gigantic and the bed great, and clean, but it was clearly a bit tired and in need of a bit of TLC but for the price, it was a great value. No real complaints My view of a cement wall. But not a deal breaker.
- David (6/5): Pleasant - Close to everything I needed.
- Paul (9/5): Very comfortable hotel. Great pool, breakfast - Location, the rooms N/A
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Neil (8/5): - The hotel is clean and tidy, for its age. Great location and really close to great bars, and eating spots and across the road from the beach and lovely esplanade for nice walks.
- Harrison (8/5): Very good -
- Jeremy (7/5): Good - The room was quite big. Good location with a sea view. The price was very good. The breakfast was ok. The cleaning could have been more thorough. I was woken at 8.00am by housekeeping wanting to clean my room.
- Sidney (4/5): Tired old building needing urgent upgrade. Definitely overpriced. - No elevator. Mold in bathroom. Desperately needs an upgrade. Door key pad always had to be repaired. Breakfast just ok.
- Danette (4/5): Wouldn’t recommend 🙁 - Property is extremely tired. Water leaking from aircon directly onto carpet explains the pungent musty smell in the room. Toilet leaked across bathroom floor tiles each time it was flushed, bathroom vanity basin was cracked from top front to the plug hole and had mould. Shower had mouldy along edges. Carpet was ok in room but filthy throughout hallways and stairs. No elevator in part we stayed so had to cart heavy luggage up flights of stairs. Front desk staff struggled to book us a private transfer to HCMC with the language barrier - surely we weren’t the first to ask for this. Door access continued to fail.
- Brad (7/5): Good -
- Martin (3/5): Poor - Location It doesn't have the facilities that are in the description. The hotel (palace hotel) has the swimming pool which has 7 sun loungers for 2 hotels. Neither hotel had a bar that was open. It is totally run down and needs refurbished. Carpets are worn and dirty. Paintwork dirty. Furniture that was installed when first built 100 years ago.
- Van (10/5): Having a great time - Spacious and beachfront with balcony Beach font view
- Robert (8/5): - The staff were all pleasant, polite and helpful. That demeanour makes they hotel stay enjoyable
- Haoran (7/5): Nice classic hotel at excellent location with good breakfast and swimpool but out-of-date room - Location, breakfast, swimpool condition of the room like window, bathroom, etc. which require repairing or renovation.
- Grace (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sylvie (10/5): - Bel hôtel, besoin de rénovation car vieillot .
- Richard (6/5): Pleasant - Needs a refurbishment.
- David (8/5): - Great price value plus breakfast excellent
- Andrew (8/5): Just right...old, but still rocking for VT - Just right...old, but still rocking for VT
- Ralf (6/5): Grand Hotel - Great old hotel at the sea.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Ikke supebra, men helt ok
- Marjorie (10/5): Exceptional - Great location to stay with a group of friends
- Marjorie (10/5): Would stay here again - Have stayed here previously, and would stay here again, great value, great location, lovely helpful staff.
- Gregory (8/5): A great stay at the grand hotel Vung tau ..value for money .. - Good location , walkable from the ferry terminal , lovely quiet room , big gym , though the equipment is dated ..breakfast was good , all the staff are helpful and smiley .. Everything was fine
- Kevin (8/5): Old world charm - This is a beautiful old hotel in a great location. Fantastic breakfast. Not much really
- Daniel (6/5): - No elevator to 2nd floor
- Anne (8/5): - Came backe
- joe (10/5): - All
- Garry (8/5): Very good -
- Eugene (6/5): - The hotel is very dated at one point it would have been a 5 star.
- John (8/5): Very good - Location and staff excellent Pool was hot, not refreshing, over 25 degrees
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable hotell - Good breakfast. Nice pool and service. Excellent location by the sea.
- Rory (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vinh (8/5): Very good location for excellent local restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance - Location is perfect for people looking for good restaurants and coffee shops, or city center. There are plenty of places to visit in the neighborhood. However, the beach next to the hotel is not clean.
Breakfast was good with plenty of food and choices.
The room is very large, especially the king-sized beds The buildings are pretty old, although the premise is very large, many rooms and facilities are left unused. The swimming pool is shared with Palace Hotel next door, same as breakfast room
- Tony (5/5): Passable -
- Roxane (8/5): Great stay. Would do again - Staff especially Ms Lyn, she was so patient with all my questions and helped with bookings. Really helped. Hotel was Quiet, good location, could use some upgrades but love the feeling of older times. Couldn't say I didn't like it but had to go outside and into the palace hotel for breakfast so outside in heat then back in but. Good selection, nice staff,
- Nicola (10/5): A great weekend escape. - Old world charm- like stepping back in time.
Large room
Great breakfast
Easy to get GRAB from the entrance.
Easy access to park and beach
Very good selection of restaurants
Close to ferry terminal
- Neil (10/5): - Best hotel in Hoi An, amazing staff
- Duc (5/5): Passable -
- Jermaine (8/5): Very good -
- Tram (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Great hotel I will definitely stay again - Big rooms, great pool, breakfast was amazing, located on front beach
- THOMAS (10/5): - Clean, comfortable and Quiet
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Tony (9/5): Superb - Great staff and service with a smile ,good location.
- Jalmari (8/5): Very good -
- Quang (9/5): Superb -
- Airlie (10/5): Exceptional - The history of the hotel resonates and has a personal meaning for me as my father stayed there during the war.
- John (8/5): Very good - Love this hotel been coming here for a while now, pool is lovely gym is great Unfortunately this grand place could do with having a complete refurb as it is looking a bit tired now
- Doan (8/5): Very good - Right next to the beach. A lot of restaurants near by. Breakfast is good. Hall way is narrow. Bed is small.Too much error with credit card reader.
