Claire (10/5): It was a pleasure to have met Kurt and stay at the Porta Superia, very good memories. - Kurt was there to warmly welcome us and provide all information for our stay. Breakfast was brilliant, fresh locally sourced produce, all delicious. Bed were super comfy, all our particular needs met, nothing too much trouble. Excellent location, near train station and the historic centre.

Will return whenever I need a stay in that region! - Superb location, Staff was super nice, I arrived very late at night, so I got a Whatsapp message beforehand with instructions on how to get instide and where to go. Everything was on point. 10/10 would recommend! Breakfast the first day was a selection of fine local cheeses with bread, self made biscoff in medieval way, self-made marmalade. everything was excellent. Breakfast for the second day I chose eggs, they were made on demand, scrambled as i wanted, also in a medieval way with a nice explanation of spices and aromas used. Everything was top quality. Nothing, everything was as expected or even better.

Esther (9/5): Geweldig verblijf met zeer vriendelijke gastheer. - Zeer hartelijke gastvrije host die er alles aan doet om het verblijf je naar de zin te maken. Heerlijke bedden en de inrichting is met zorg samengesteld. Het ontbijt was geweldig met lokale producten, tevens met zeer veel zorg bereidt. Kortom zeer gastvrij verblijf met alles tot in de puntjes voor elkaar! De waskamer lag naast die van ons en gaf in de zondagochtend wat overlast.

The host, Kurt, is so gracious and helpful with tips on things to see and places to eat. The breakfast was absolutely delicious! We could not eat breakfast the second day because of our flight time and Kurt made us breakfast to go and left it in the fridge for us. Everything is so well designed and thoughtfully arranged. Truly a 5 star place to stay!

He provided a great history of Mechelen and the area. I loved the shower and the natural products (shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner). I definitely would stay there again! The bathroom had a glass door, but we made it work. We used a lapa/beach sarong, and everything was great!

Extremely uncomfortable - The rooms look as photographed The property owner or manager idk who it is came into my room while I was gone and went through my stuff to take a photo of a glass I used as an ashtray and accused me of smoking in the room and may charged me €200 for an assumption… I’m a 22 year old girl staying by myself I’m genuinely so disturbed and scared to be having to sleep here tonight it’s currently 2am and I can’t sleep cause of this experience, not to mention I brought a friend home from Tomorrowland to hang out with me and I was told I wasn’t allowed any visitors even though I paid for 2 people to be here and my friend who was supposed to be staying couldn’t come anymore which is why a friend I happen to run into at the festival offered to get me home safely. He knocked on my door almost every single morning and woke me up. Genuinely so disgusted with this place and would not recommend anyone stay here unless you want to feel extremely uncomfortable and scared for your privacy. Cant believe a grown man would go through a 22 year old girls room who’s alone and I still do not know when he chose to do that which is what is even creepier like was he waiting for me to leave to go to Tomorrowland yesterday? Was it when I was sleeping? I haven’t left the room today besides to quickly go down and grab Uber eats so overall terrible experience and can’t stress enough DO NOT STAY HERE.

Jonathan (10/5): - This is where you want to stay in Mechelen. 25 minutes from Antwerp and 25 minutes from Brussels. Amazing ice cream at the Cacao Project. Lovely host, who is happy to give you lots of terrific sightseeing and dining options. Beautiful.

Adrienn (10/5): Excellent, best host I ever had - Kurt was a fantastic host, very friendly, open and helpful. I really liked the room - size, organic bathroom accessories and the shower :) Bed was very comfortable and had a nice sleep. Got personalised breakfast with juice, bread, jam from local sources and scrambled eggs from Porta' own chickens.

David (10/5): - This one of the best B and Bs I have ever stayed in. Delightful in every respect. The room was large and comfortable, and stylishly fitted out with up to the minute mod-cons. The hosts Kurt and Michael were incredibly welcoming and friendly, they gave me a great restaurant recommendation, and put on a wonderful breakfast. Extremely convenient for the railway station. Mechelen is a real gem of a town. Thank you again for a lovely stay. David

M (10/5): A hidden gem in Mechelen - Ssshh - this is the best kept secret in Mechelen. Book it for the fantastic spacious rooms, the comfy bed, the shower and toiletries. Alternatively book it for its sustainability, low energy use, home made granola, local cheese etc. Finally book it as the outstanding hosts make you feel truly welcome.

Tim (10/5): Top weekend - Warme ontvangst bij inchecken. De gastheer is een persoon die dit echt met hart en ziel doet. Je wordt als gasten echt in de watten gelegd en niets is teveel gevraagd. De kamer wordt bij een langer verblijf elke dag gepoetst. Het ontbijt is verzorgd en echt lekker. Een aanrader voor iedereen!
