- Alistair (6/5): Overall it was good - Location was good. Breakfast was excellent and beautifully presented. Bed was very comfortable. Hosts were lovely. This is more constructive feedback than the question suggests: Perhaps a little more attention to detail. Eg Hand towels were clean but had completely lost their fresh appearance ie grey. Yellow stains under the toilet seat. A musty smell which took a little getting used to - old house though!
- Terence (10/5): The perfect place to reflect on American history - The innkeepers were very clear with instructions about what to do if they were not at home when we arrived. Brilliantly, the code for the front door was the last four numbers of the phone we used when booking. They were at home, so we got a warm welcome, a tour of the property and an offer of assistance with bags. There are coffee and tea machines upstairs and down. The rooms are beautifully decorated in the style of the Nineteenth Century when the original house was built, but the bathrooms are fully up to date. Breakfast was delicious. Course ground grits beat any roadhouse fare, and the fruit-and-yoghurt starter was fresh and tasty. Charles is the chef, while Talia serves. On the morning of our one-day stay, there were no other guests, but the comment books in each room attest to the pleasure all visitors have in their stays. Take some time to walk around the town. We asked for a quiet room, and "Rebeka" on the second floor was certainly quiet and had a garden view. However, we could instead have asked for a ground-floor room or one with a larger bed. Those choices would have improved our comfort.

The room and furnishings were shabby and dusty, bathroom had mysterious grime on handles, and the whole room had a very strong odor of grease / cooking fumes. To add insult to injury, there is an envelope in the room asking for tips for the cleaning person (?!) I realize people enjoy coming here for the food, but the accomodations are sub-standard and I want to be honest so that others can make their own choice. I feel like the reviews to this place are a bit misleading, and the town where it is located feels run down and creepy with bizarre political propaganda. Definitely not a charming place to visit!

Outfitted as it would have been in the late 1800's but modern facilities (e.g. bathroom). Talia was super friendly and helped with hints of what to do around the area (since the Appomattox Court House complex was closed due to the government shutdown. Breakfast and optional dinner wee superb and they were able to modify the menu to meet our dietary needs. We highly recommend it. Can't think of a thing that needed improvement.

There are multiple porches, patios, and balconies to find a nice quiet place to relax and unwind. The room we had worked well for a family of three. Beds are comfortable and the shower in the updated bathroom felt so good.

The room was very comfortable, shower was awesome and our hostess went out of the way to get us ice and decaf hot tea for my wife. Breakfast was great and we enjoyed sitting in the living room before leaving Sunday morning. This B&B will be our first choice if we ever need to spend the night in the Farmville area. 5 stars!!!

- Patricia (10/5): - My wife and I stayed one night at the Babcock House in order to visit the Appomattox Court House. Room was nicely done with a great bathroom with walk-in shower and full bath. Area is quiet and we did a short walk to the nearby train station. Dinner was exceptional.
- Robert (10/5): Unexpected Gem of a country Inn - We booked a quick weekend retreat to visit the national D-Day memorial in Bedford and any other things. Our room was comfortable, spacious and well appointed; just sorry we did not have more time to take advantage of all common rooms in our one night stay. \The Inn is a short trip to Lynchburg and we thoroughly recommend this to anyone visiting that area. There are nearby attractions like Appomattox historical site, and the Maier museum at Randolph College in Lynchburg has a superb collection of American impressionist artists; for a small free museum it can rival many museums in Europe in quality if not size. The staff was pleased to discuss the collection and the museum should be on “bucket list” of every art lover in this region. We also dined at the inn and could not have been more pleased. Our meal rivaled many in Paris in our recent visit. The restaurant is not routinely open so if they offer you dinner, do not miss this Michelin Guide quality food and service. Also visit the National D-Day memorial in Bedford. We have frequently been to D-Day beaches in Normandy itself, and the American cemetery (opening/closing scenes of Saving Private Ryan) with my WWII Veteran parents and other visitors. This simple monument in rural VA will help to understand D-Day, and the 22 of 32 Bedford soldiers in the first wave at Omaha beach among the thousands killed that day. It left an enormous lump in our throats. So memorable.

- Amanda (10/5): A lovely historical home and delicious food while visiting the Appomattox Courthouse National Park. - This is a beautiful bed and breakfast, hosted by the owners in the historic town of Appomattox. The house is lovely, a beautifully renovated home in the vernacular of the area in the 1800s. The food was excellent as one of the owners is an accomplished chef. This is definitely worth a stop!

- Susan (10/5): A unique, hospitable historic inn. Say yes to this wonderful experience with tremendous cuisine. I am still blown away - Babcock house is the ultimate bed and breakfast experience. In a historic home in Appomattox, we enjoyed tremendous breakfasts after our nights in the Rebecca room on second floor. We enjoyed the balcony over the front porch as a storm began to set in. We read the reviews about dinner, so we then booked a reservation for Friday night supper. It lives up to all these reviews! The dinner menu was full of delicious options, and I can tell each was well prepared based on our two choices that evening. The cocktails were innovative. For what we were served, it was very reasonably priced. The breakfast came with the room, which was also an excellent package. One morning was, sausage, eggs and grits but with a twist. Another was French baguette, pancake with strawberry syrup and bacon. I can give kudos to this and keep a couple for knowing how to treat guests so they will come back. We spoke with another couple who comes three or four times a year from about an hour away. I think that speaks volumes!! Not much at all to improve. Such a fine old historic inn w/ history.  The balcony out front is for all guests and not attached to one room. There was capsule coffee upstairs in the hall. The Rebecca room, no 4, had a double bed, not a queen. I think the rooms surrounding ours (3,5,6) seemed to offer queen beds, with 5 and 6 being on back corner thus having very sunny windows. But honestly you can’t go wrong at Babcock House!

The bed was very comfortable with nice linens. There was coffee and tea available any time upstairs. There was a nice front balcony and an additional sitting room where you can read. The breakfast was excellent. There was homemade hash with eggs or French toast with some of the best bacon that they make themselves. I would definitely return.

- Melissa (8/5): I liked it so much tgat I would bring my whole family back here to stay when touring the history around Appomattox. - Historic home, close to sites I was visiting garden , felt like owners loved the uniqueness of the home’s historical value, so they repurposed it into something good for the economics of the community. A win-win!!

The Babcock House w - The inn was charming, the hosts were delightful, and the food was delicious! Our room was lovely - a little dated- but the beautiful bathroom and charming second floor balcony were wonderful added features. Sadly, outside of this little gem and the Appomattox Courthouse, there is really nothing to do in the town.
