• LC_NYC_12 (8/5): Amazing staff - You should go here with very low expectations. The hotel, like the town itself, is pretty run down. However, you will never come across a nicer staff. I would like to give a particular thank you to Takayuki Sato who helped me via email to arrange some sightseeing plans in the area. He also drove me to the train station! There was a young woman who was also very kind and helpful. I think her name was Yuka and apologize if I am mistaken. She was great.

• Masamichi (8/5): - 部屋の設備があちこち壊れているところがあったが、使用するには問題なかった。温泉のお湯はとても良かった。
• Verified traveler (8/5): - お部屋のお布団に埃が多く、お布団をたたんだりする時に埃がかなり出た。また窓のサッシにも埃が多いので、清潔感に難点あり。 空気中にある温泉成分（硫黄？）が原因で、施設の金属部分の腐食が激しい。 湯質は素晴らしく、これまで訪れた温泉の№１。肌が本当にすべすべになり、体も暖まる。 宿の夕食は値段から考えると非常に美味しい。主菜はともかく、昆布出汁、お米までも美味しい。 スタッフの対応が非常に丁寧。真摯な接客態度がなによりも良かった。
• YASUYUKI (6/5): お湯は最高、浴室は微妙 - 強酸性のお湯で、吹き出物が治った。お湯は素晴らしい。草津温泉に近い感じ。ただ、浴室の設備が古くて、至るところ酸性湯でさびたりしていて、施設のメンテナンスに問題が。　 1階の食事室はグループ別に仕切られており、リフォームされてきれいだった。
• BluePete (8/5): Onsen bath sublime - I spent 2 nights here, after birdwatching in the area , fantastic red crowned cranes and whopper swans, we arrived at the hotel. The room was perfectly adequate, toilet and shower. It is typical Japanese, tatami mats you must take off your shoes, the staff will lay your futon mattress out and bedding. I actually slept on 3 futons the floor can be very hard. It may be minus 15 outside but inside it was lovely and warm. I enjoyed the onsen , it is open to the public. Laying in the hot water in the steamy onsen room was very relaxing and refreshing. In the room you get a traditional Japanese garment to wear, I wore it to the onsen and to dinner. The food here is fantastic, if you are new to Japanese food you are in for a treat. I enjoyed my stay here , but the highlight was the onsen.
• Verified traveler (2/5): 非常不推薦 - 雖然訂的是禁菸房，但房間菸味非常重，即使開中央空調，吹出來的空氣反而更加重房間的菸味。隔音也很差，可以聽到隔壁房客打呼的聲音！

• Tay (8/5): Impress by onsen - This hotel is some kind too “old”. However, the Onsen’s quality is the best from our trip.
• Eugene_Sim (6/5): Simple local hotel - This is a simple, clean and comfortable hotel. My group of 4 stayed in a Japanese room and was of a reasonable size. After placing the 4 mattresses it was left with just a little space to walk around. This hotel has a public bath with water from the local underground sulphur water.
• Christine (10/5): - Der Ort selbst bietet recht wenig. Schwer ein Restaurant zu finden. Leider keine englischsprachigen Infomaterialien. Hotelpersonal kann leider nur ein paar Brocken Englisch. Ansonsten schöner Onsen, mit verschiedenen Becken.
• masami (6/5): 温泉が最高です。 - 家族旅行に最適です。久しぶりの和室利用でしたが、畳に布団の生活から離れていたので懐かしい思いがあった。 夕食は和食バイキングで量を食べない年代に良いです。何も豪華すぎる食事を求めない年代に最高のコスパです。味も好みでしたが、朝食は中の下。これは贅沢でなく質素という具合で自分の中ではOKです。
• Warren (8/5): Nice traditional onsen hotel. - Good hotel central to sites and activities. We had a car which assisted. Free parking close by was good. Dinner and breakfast had a nice selection buffet style. Rooms were clean and tidy. Nice view of mountains. Would recommend a stay.

• bobolee55 (6/5): Good sulfur hot spring, big room with beds. Slow wi fi lobby only - This is a sulfur hot spring hotel, makes the skin smooth. The room is big, with beds, thank god! Cannot get up from tatami at night to go to bathroom. Only lobby has wi-fi, very inconvenient, super slow too.

• ZHENGRONG (6/5): - 一家老的温泉酒家，各种设施都很陈旧；晚餐是自助，但品种很少；温泉水确实是硫磺水，但淋浴的水龙头很陈旧，表面结了很多水垢痕迹。
• brontay (6/5): Hotel more for locals - If you drive to Kawayu, do be watchful as you may miss the turning into the driveway that lead into the parking area of the hotel. We did and had to drive a few rounds before we found it. The interior of the hotel though looks a bit new but tacky and dim. However, the staff with their limited English were as helpful as possible. The Japanese-styled room we stayed in was slightly larger than usual, clean and comfortable. The room came with 2 meals, breakfast and dinner. Though the breakfast was the usual Japanese fare, the dinner was good - it's kaiseki dinner! Of course, there was the onsen, afterall the hotel is located in Kawayu onsen area. Location wise, it's pretty convenient to access other nearby attractions such as Lake Akan and Lake Mashu. Overall, it's a comfortable ad comfortable stay.
• bobob898 (8/5): Relax with hot spring - This is a traditional Japanese hotel served with meals. Dinner is tasty and superb! Breakfast is served as buffet. It is not newly opened hotel but everything is tidy and in good order. We don't speak Japanese but it's not a problem. Staff there is nice and helpful. We visited Hokkaido in winter and this is recommended.
• 555_Travel (4/5): Did not meet my expectations - Sorry but this hotel really did not meet my expectations. The room was old and the hotel refused to turn on the air conditioning even though it was really hot and humid. I'm guessing at least 32 degrees Celsius and very high humidity. They did provide us with a fan which helped a little bit. To be fair to the hotel, we did check another hotel nearby who also said they are not using the air conditioning. Apparently they only turn on the air conditioning from 1st July onwards. At night, insects found their way into our room and also left stains on our futons (what? don't ask my how or why because I don't know). There were quite a lot of them and I guess they were attracted to the light. We did have a fly net over the windows but I guess it didn't work! I should mention that I did stay at two other Ryokans in Hokkaido during my trip, both of which provided air conditioning despite having cooler weather conditions and both did not have any insects in the rooms. The onsen was not well maintained and had green mold on the taps and the walls. It was quite gross. I found myself wondering whether I should turn around and just go back to my room. Like I mentioned above I had stayed at two other Ryokans, and those onsens were VERY clean and well maintained. I was very disappointed. In summary, I do not recommend this hotel. To be fair I don’t really recommend going to Kawayu either, as I found the town to be old and tired. I went in summer, so perhaps things are different in winter, spring or autumn.
