• Carl (5/5): Not greatly enjoyable. - Breakfast was very good. Bed was comfortable. Ray was excellent and pleasant. The shower was very small, half the size of a telephone box. The TV has a black line down the middle of the screen. I booked a room with additional beds but when we got there only one was made up. The heater in the sitting area did not work which made sitting there watching tv very cold. The drinks in the fridge had no information as to whether they had a charge or not. No available information to that effect and we were therefore charged for the water we used. Overall not somewhere I could recommend or ever intend to stay there again.

Internally the finish and fit out were first class. Meeting Paul and Brendon confirmed the passion and interest they had in the building and its renovation. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable to stay in, some with commanding views. The dinning room is elegantly and tastefully decorated in beautiful time appropriate antiques. This is, as the rest of this grand old home a reflection of Paul and Brendon’s personalities. They include a beautiful breakfast of which is very generous, using fresh ingredients and made to order. This is equal to if not better than any 5 star restaurant. The homes grand sitting room is a lovely place to sit, relax, meet other guest and enjoy a complimentary night cap of port or sherry. If you desire. We feel that you could want for nothing else.

And looks even better than the photos -which is what attracted us to it in the first place. The owners have done an incredible job renovating this precious building and the breakfast they will do for you is world class. Close to restaurants and lovely part of Devonport. We also enjoyed having a drink on the upper verandah -with the expansive outlook. Wish we had stayed a few days. Next time. Nothing- but didn’t like that we didn’t have more time to enjoy.😊

No lift so if you have difficulty with steps or have heavy bags, could be an issue. We know this is not anyone’s fault, just the way it is with the style of building.
• KAREN (10/5): Undoubtedly the best bed and breakfast property in Devonport. - My husband and I were looking for a quiet escape over the Christmas and New Year period. We thought we would try North/ North Western Tasmania and we are so glad we did. We stayed 3 nights at The Grand on Macfie. This is a wonderful old home, skilfully and very tastefully converted to a bed and breakfast property. The decor is lavish but not overdone and true to the period. There has been an outstanding renovation. Our room was very comfortable; with a well appointed bathroom. There is also a lounge room which we used (for some work, regrettably, but easily done with the excellent WiFi). The breakfast room at the front of the house boasts a well stocked buffet for a continental breakfast, in addition to the a la carte menu, which we thoroughly recommend: generous portions of a good range of hearty, hot dishes. We were also delighted by the friendly hospitality extended by the hosts, Paul and Brenden. Efficient, warm, welcoming, with plenty of local tips and advice. We couldn't have been happier with the Grand on Macfie. Nothing.

The furnishings are a true reflection of the history of the house and its heritage listing. Such a charming and beautifully decorated throughout, from the room colours, to the common areas. • Ronald (10/5): beautifully renovated stylish boutique hotel, exceptional service and breakfast - A gem of a boutique hotel, beautifully restored in style by the hosts themselves. Exceptional breakfast freshly cooked in a lovely breakfast room. Very friendly service. Paul even brought us to the airport himself to pick up our rental car.
• Gregory (10/5): Perfect in every way. - The greeting on arrival, beautiful and tastefully decorated and furnished property, quiet location but close to other facilities, on-site parking, great breakfast. Shower a little "tight"
• McTackett (6/5): Uncomfortable - I loved the quant heritage home the location was within walking distance to shopping. Our room felt like a storage room, the entire room was crammed with furniture,we had two single beds in the same bedroom as a four poster bed totally not necessary, the bed was too high for me I found myself jumping up on to it. The tea & coffee plus fridge were in the bathroom, you made your cuppa next to the toilet . The photos on the site showed beautiful rooms elsewhere on the property, not even a coffee table
