Guest Reviews
- Susanne (4/5): - Nichts Hier stimmt das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis überhaupt nicht. Ganz kleines einfaches Zimmer wie in einem Hostel. Mini-Badezimmer. Alles in dunklem Holz. Einfach zu teuer... Personal konnte auch fast nicht englisch - deshalb waren Fragen zu Ausflügen schwierig. Wenn man ohne Auto in die Stadt gehen möchte muss man ziemlich lange bergauf gehen.
- Nina (8/5): -
- Laura (9/5): MUY ACOGEDOR -
- Balaji (8/5): -
- Alessandro (10/5): Tutto perfetto - Comodissimo posto auto.
- Gary (7/5): A reasonable stopover all round. - The location was a little out of the way requiring the use of the car or taxi to get between lodge and town. Walking (mainly downhill) possible, reasonably priced taxi to get back. Breakfast was limited in choice but ok. The room was a good size and comfortable. A quiet location in a suburban area accessed by a very steep side road. Advertised as an ecolodge, it felt more like a nice, normal motel. The WiFi did not seem to work in the room but was ok sitting on the chair outside the door in direct sight of the router. Parking was on the grass outside the room which was good for accessibility but would not work in the rainy season.
- Laura (10/5): - The staff took very good care of us. My husband booked a birding tour through the Eco Lodge and the guide did an excellent job. Our room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfortable. The lodge is off the main roads so is more quiet. We would stay again.
- Andrea (10/5): The kindness of the host was what made this the best stay so far. - The breakfast is so delicious and amazing with the fresh fruit and the option of the traditional Tico breakfast or the American breakfast. The coffee was delicious as well. I also received laundry service and it was very wonderful for the value. I would stay here again because the host is an amazing person and runs a wonderful place the home is beautiful I loved everything there's not a single thing I didn't like
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Carla (8/5): - Lovely clean place, lovely staff and away from the street sounds. But the stairs to my room were really steep and the mattress was the old spring type. I just couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep on it. I managed to put my pillows in a line to sleep a bit. The weather was perfectly cool even with the late afternoon rain. For transportation, walk to the City Central and get a taxi there because It's cheaper that way. (No Uber so far away from city). I had a lovely short stay.
- Lenka (8/5): Very good - The place is very nice, very good breakfast, the stuff is friendly and the lady Zeidy from the reception is very helpful. She helped us to organize all the trips we wanted to do in this area.Muchisimas gracia :-)
- Francesca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff, breakfast, cats Very steep hill climb
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Monteverde Ecolodge is a wonderful place to stay. Rooms are nice and well equipped. We had the excellent top suite under the roof. The landlady was very kind and helpful with local information. The location is top (near to most activities but quiet) and there are a couple of good restaurants around. So enjoy your stay - it's pura vida! And once again ¡Grascias! to the landlady!
- Szvoboda (9/5): Superb - Location is good, close to everything.
The owner is very friendly and helpful.
Room was very clean.
- Serena (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (10/5): - Greeted with a smile after a long drive. Cozy place with easy access to all the Monteverde offers
- Proulx (9/5): Superb -
- Barbara (8/5): Very good - Very nice owners. Great breakfast. Unfortunatelly a room next to secondaey entrance so a lot of noises. No side bed lamp. Shared bathroom. No view from Window - covred from outside.
- Olivia (7/5): Good - The staff were really friendly with lots of helpful information about activities in the area. The breakfast was good too! It was a little bit cold in the rooms and in the shower! Easy to access with a car, but quite a steep walk up from the town centre by foot.
- Andrew (5/5): Passable - Cool and comfortable room . The key snapped in the lock when we were inside the room. It was a deadlock meaning we could not open the door . Also we couldn't open the windows therefore no exit from the room . Also an plug socket with no front showing the wiring. Perfect ingredients for a fire where you would be trapped. This is a room which would accommodate a family so really not very good. The key broke as it was 3mm at its thinnest point and was a cheap lock.
- Judith (7/5): Good -
- Robles (10/5): Exceptional - The property is beautiful. Hardwood floors can make it a bit loud at times but all guests are really respectful of that. Very friendly animals on the property and the staff is more than willing to help you with booking tours or finding local places !
- Judy (7/5): Good -
- Naman (6/5): not recommended - They DO NOT have private bathrooms. It is not mentioned in the booking and is misleading. Rooms are very small and dingy. The whole place is very very ill lit and depressing. Away from town as well. Not the best place to stay. Staff is very nice and helpful.
- Ranjit (2/5): Avoid at all costs - Would give a zero star if we could. We were the only people there for the night. We booked a room with private bathroom, but the boy insisted on giving us the room with the shared bathroom, and asked us to pay 30$ more if we wanted to get the private bathroom. After arguing for a bit, he asked for 10$ to switch to the private bathroom room. We stood our ground, and finally he agreed to give us the private bathroom room at no extra cost. There, neither the internet not TV was working, and both were included in the stay. To counter, he again told us that the shared bathroom room will fix our internet issues. So we had no choice but to agree to switch, since we did want to have Wi-Fi for our stay. In the new room, the key broke while were testing the locks before heading out. The boy now asked us to pay for the broken key. In addition, he was leaving for the night shortly with no staff on sight. On asking what we should do in case of an emergency situation, like not being able to get back in because of broken key, he told us to send an email to some address!!! This was getting utterly ridiculous by the second, and the boy was constantly being instructed via phone by someone on the other end, trying to get us to give them more money.... At this point, we asked him to refund our booking and we will find another place for the night. He was understanding how ridiculously bad our situation was, but wasn't willing to do the refund until we told him that we will get the cops involved
- Blackhawks (6/5): - Hot water is only slightly warm. No laundry on site, no hair blower. Everything is basic, lights are dim. Roads are dusty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff were friendly and accomodating despite very little english. Although my room was supposed to have its own bathroom, AC, and tv, my bathroom was shared, there was no AC and tv did not work. It could of been a little better with cleanliness over all, but bedding was clean and for the price and amount of time spent inside, it was a good value.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very nice for the price! - Great breakfast! No room services, and a very annoying little dog that lived next door and sure barked a LOT! Anyway, overall I would give this a thumbs up!
- Daniel (10/5): Comfy! - Great double room. With the comfiest bed I've had on all my travels. Nice building. Warm shower. And 5 min walk to supermarket and restaurants
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Decent location but up at least one steep hill and then down a road that sets off dogs barking at every house you pass.
Nice new place though with super helpful staff. Helped with bookings, onward travel and local knowledge.
Could do with a table and a bin in the room
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel staff were really great. They helped us book activities in monteverde which made our stay ( I advice anyone going to think about things they want to do in advance and not just turn up like we did). Also arranged for our clothes to be washed and had a sink for me to scrub my boots :) By far the most helpful during our stay in CR so far.
Breakfast was really nice as well- a choice between traditional or american with tea/coffee. Both really filling.
Shared bathroom was clean. We were there in low season so no problem with sharing.
Things to note - youll have to climb 2 relatively steep hills if going there from bus station/main town but you are in a mountain so thats partly expected. The other is that the house next door has dogs which bark and a small dog outside which barks and follows you ( unless you completely ignore it and walk past it). Neither of these should be a problem if driving.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Walking distance to Santa Elena. - Rooms are clean and confortable but requiere updating. Staff was fantastic, very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic lodging that wasn't worth the family price - The staff was friendly and helpful in orienting my family to the local area. The room itself was very basic, kind of old, and lacked amenities. One of the light fixtures didn't work (it wasn't a bulb issue) and the walls were thin (although the area was relatively quiet). We had to change in the bathroom because the curtains were see-through when the light was on in the room. Breakfast was a sit-down meal made by the staff and looked amazing. However, breakfast service only starts at 7:00, which is way too late. We had guided morning tours each day we were in Monteverde, and most of these start at 7:30, which means there wasn't enough time to eat at the hotel and still make the tour. Most other hotels in the area start breakfast at 6:30.
- Ronald (10/5): - Super friendly staff. Would totally stay again
- Jennifer (8/5): - Good hotel if your looking for a budget room. Limited parking, hotel off dirt road and about a 10 min walk to town
- Ardith (10/5): Wonderful, friendly, home away from home! - We were so pleased with our stay at Monteverde Eco Lodge. Everyone there helped connect us to the best of Monteverde’s wonderful activities, food, & travel resources. Someone was always available to satiate our needs. We also thought the location was perfect—-close to town, yet quiet, with the National Park almost in our back yard. Thank you Monteverde Eco Lodge.
- Verified traveler (8/5): very clean, basic accommodations. - The location looked a little iffy, its in a residential neighborhood on a bumpy road. The room was very good though, clean and comfy, and the breakfast was great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Sweet little B&B - The hosts were very sweet and welcoming to us from the moment we arrived. Maricelle gave us great recommendations for what to do in the city and they prepared a delicious breakfast in the morning. Cons: the bed and bedding was not very comfortable (but still clean) and there were a few bugs in the room.
- Patricia (8/5): Budget hotel - very clean and friendly staff - Room was very clean and spacious, if sparse. Good value for money, with good breakfast (although limited choice). Lady at front desk had no English but was very helpful; I did see other guests struggle but ths caused us no issue. Her husband had more English and was also extremely helpful, especially during breakfast. Our room was on main floor. I think upper floors may be better. Curtains are thin so at night, anyone outside has full view of your room. Also, the "balcony" is actually a shared walkway to the rooms so not ideal to sit out and read or enjoy a drink, and it overlooks the driveway, not trees as one might expect. I suggest asking for an upstairs room. During our stay, we had high winds and cool temperature so sleeping near the window was uncomfortably cold. We were able to use bedding from second bed to be warm enough but if we were using both beds, we would have been cold. I suspect the owner would have provided extra blankets if asked. When I booked, I thought it was located in the town but we had to get a taxi to and fro; it would not be a pleasant walk. Not expensive but not as convenient as I had hoped. Overall, clean with comfortable bed, hot water, and decent breakfast. All good for the money spent. If you are not seeking luxury or amenities, this could suit you well.
- Tarun (10/5): Amazing lodging in a breathtaking location - Jennifer just takes the prize for the best check in experience. Very unassuming and professional, she first guides you through your plan giving all the options. Once you have decided - she waits patiently and if you don’t want to do something she accepts that. For other things she makes all the bookings. Then she checks you in.
Lodging is very earthy and comfortable. The towels are beautifullly arranged on the bedehich is very comfortable. The floor mat in the bathroom is folded in the shape of a swan and so is the toilet paper. Just nice welcoming touches.
Absolutely recommend staying here. Don’t be fooled by the price - just because it’s low does not mean it’s a cheap setup. We found it last minute and delightfully surprised.
