- Uihyeon (10/5): - The place is great and the host is very kind!
- Samuel (10/5): - Good location and fairly quiet. I asked for a room away from the street and they were able to switch me into it. Breakfast is very basic, just eggs, toast, and some apples/oranges.
- cecile (10/5): Wonderful hotel - Wonderful hotel on the way to Tortuga Bay, very close to the center and boat arrival. The owner was such a lovely man and helped with everything.
- SERGIO (10/5): - Max the owner courteous & serviceable. Location & condition of the property. Breakfast available since 6:30 a.m. a plus.
- Mercedes (10/5): - This was an oasis every day as we came back from our excursions. It is absolutely central and walkable within a 1 minute walk to restaurants, shops, and 3 min from the port, yet on a side street so peaceful. Capitan Max was accesible all the time providing info, making our breakfast, handing us towels and a backpack to the beach. The place is so beautifully decorated, the rooms even have a hammock, and the breakfasts are delicious and abundant. Also, there is always avail water, tea, hot cocoa, and bananas on the counter throughout the day. Everything was excellent!
- Matthew (10/5): Best BNB - Best hotel in Puerto Ayora.
- Minh (10/5): - Max and Lourdes were wonderful hosts. They helped us book taxi back to the airport. There was a free water refilling station. It’s a very close walk to the pier and very conveniently located. Breakfast was good.
- Rajiv (10/5): Must stay in Peurto Ayora - Excellent hosts and great place that feels like home.
- Marcos (10/5): - Great place. I would love to stay again. Max and Lourdes are amazing.
- Cassandra (10/5): - Max was a great host. Our son loved the hammock in the room. Breakfast was good. A nice first stop in our trip to the galapagos.
- Maria (8/5): - It was centrally located. No kitchen access. There were additional taxes/fees which was substantial. More transparency needed for future guests.
- Karen (10/5): - Hotel was very clean, safe, quiet and server a nice breakfast. The location was excellent, close to everything.
- Pauline (10/5): - Captain Max B & B is great. Located in a quiet area but only a few blocks from the center of restaurants, shopping, and the pier. The amenities are great like all day coffee/tea bar, filtered water, a safe in the room, and a carafe of drinking water in your room. The place is spotlessly clean and the staff is helpful and friendly. My only regret was that I couldn’t stay longer. This place is good value for the price. It is a must stay place if you are in Puerto Ayora.
- Jade (10/5): Great location and host - Capitan Max was the perfect place to start our Galapagos trip. The hotel is conveniently located a 5 minute walk from the main pier on the way to Tortuga Bay. Max arranged our transfer from the airport and arranged another taxi for us the following day to take us to the highlands for the giant tortoises. We only managed to eat breakfast once during our stay as we had to leave early for day trips but the breakfast was good. The room was clean and pleasant with good aircon.
- Susan (10/5): - The owners of this B&B are just lovely! They are so kind and so helpful. So very friendly. The accommodations are excellent. Their place is SPOTLESS. Breakfast just delightful. Highly recommend staying here!
- ANIL (8/5): - Right next to pier & walkable.Owner is exceptionally pleasant & helpful with information.Hotel is clean. As name suggests, it’s a B&B.
- Daniel (10/5): - Owners were very helpful.
- Andrea (10/5): Went above and beyond - Max and Lourdes were amazing hosts who couldn’t do enough to help. On booking
they sent out additional information regarding tours and Santa Cruz.
They were always ready to answer questions or to recommend places.
They have even gone to the trouble of making videos to explain how to catch the ferry etc. which is very reassuring when you have no idea what to expect.
My room was clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Fluffy white towels in the bathrooms, daily housekeeping, daily breakfast with freshly made eggs, I didn’t need anything more.
Lourdes was very helpful in booking my ferries to other islands which saved me a lot of time.
- Martin (10/5): - Max is a real gentleman and great host with nothing too much trouble. Tidy rooms with safe. Guests have use of a common fridge. Easy walk to shops, bars and restaurants. Small but suitable breakfast.
- Jean-Yves (10/5): A home away from home - Lourdes and her husband made us feel immediately at home.
Location is within easy (< 5 min) walk to nearby restaurants and the port. Lourdes arranged for taxis to and from Capitan Max, plus excursions. It's like concierge service.
The room was comfortable, cool and large. Excellent plumbing.
Healthy breakfast buffet with eggs and fruit served early and consistently.
All this at a reasonable price. It's a no brainer.
- arron (10/5): - The staff were very helpful and attentive. As a solo traveller they made me feel very welcome like it was a home.
- Christine (10/5): - Staff was helpful and the room are clean. We felt like being at home. It was our favorite place to stay if our vacation trip in Ecuador
- Ifan (10/5): - Capitán Max is a fantastic place to have as your base on Santa Cruz Island. The rooms are clean and big, breakfast is nice, and the staff are incredible. Lourdes, who greeted us when we arrived and was in contact with us during our stay was incredibly helpful. She recommended us things to do, helped us understand how to get places and even booked our ferries to the other islands for us.
- Christina (10/5): - Loved Pedro and the staff. Very clean and accessible. Thank you for a great stay!!
- Christopher (10/5): Capitan Max B&B is awesome - Wow, what a gem!! Capitan Max B&B is awesome. The staff was amazing. Pedro is the best breakfast cook ever and full of all the information you will need for your trip to Puerto Ayora. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The location is very good and close to everything. Would absolutely stay here again!!
- Carla (10/5): Loved it at Capitan Max’s! - We had an amazing stay at Capitan Max’s! The room was gorgeous, the breakfast was delicious and the staff were so welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend!!
- Alyss (10/5): Simple, comfortable, clean - We had a great time at Captain Max. We stayed on 3 separate occasions while island hopping.
The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The wifi is excellent. Max and his brother are really kind and helpful.
It’s in a great central location.
- Alyss (10/5): Would stay again for sure - We stayed several times here over a couple of weeks moving around the Galapagos. Max and his brother were lovely, helpful and ran a tight ship! It’s also a solid central location.
- Eric (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay at Capitan Max B&B. Max and Lourdes were very welcoming and helpful throughout my stay.
- Blake (10/5): - Capitan Max is located just off a strip of restaurants. It is an easy 3-4 minute walk to the main street and to get to the pier. It is clean, has friendly staff, basic breakfast is included - cereal, eggs, toast, coffee/tea, and fruit. There was lots of filtered water to fill your water bottle.
Overall, a good B&B and would stay there again.
- Paul (10/5): - Staff was very helpful in recommending sites to visit, restaurants, and arranging taxi. Delicious breakfast.
- Benjamin (8/5): - Captain Max was really good with comunication and arranged for us the taxis to take us to and from the ferry area. He was very friendly and helpful. The place is in a great location very close to delicious restaurants, shops, and the malecon. Nice walk over to the teh charles darwin research center. Easy to catch water taxis and tours. Downside. You are near the hapening area so it could get loud. The room was good size and the AC workes great. Would recommend. It is probably a little more rustic then some b and b's, but overall very happy with the stay.
- Alexander (10/5): - The property was excellent and the owner was super friendly and helpful with all the questions we had. The property is super close to the main dock where all the restaurants and shops are. And is within walking distance of some beaches and the darwin centre. Capitan Max is definitely a great choice for anyone looking to stay on Santa Cruz Island!
- felix (6/5): - The property doesn’t accept credit cards for check-in; something it was not listed on property details, you have to download an app to pay via credit card but the other thing is that wifi is horrible at this property; in other places the wifi works fine, and last if you stay in one of the bedrooms facing the street you won’t sleep after 5:30am with the sound of trucks, motorcycles and the elementary school in front.
- Emily (10/5): - Clean room, super close to everything you might want to do. Also the host makes amazing scrambled eggs for breakfast. 10/10
- Deborah (10/5): - Max is a lovely host and he is very helpful. The breakfast is hearty and filling. The hotel is well located and close to pharmacies, bank machines, the grocery store, and port. It is quiet at night and the huge bed was so comfortable! Great value for the money.
- Dianne (10/5): - The room, the location, the breakfast, Captain Max himself...everything was excellent. Max was so helpful. He definitely made our stay much better with all of his advise and help in planning our days spent on the island.
- Brandon (8/5): - This hotel met our needs. Super convenient, clean and great service. It was only a few minutes from the port and the Kioskos. Max was very helpful in coordinating taxis and providing information on tours. Internet was a bit spotty, but that is true for the whole island. Breakfast was a bit underwhelming, but still met our needs. Had to pay for the hotel with cash (couldn't take credit), but was doable with close ATMs. Overall would highly recommend Capitan Max. Great bargain and excellent service! Thanks Max
- Donna (8/5): - Great property- location excellent. Advice from property staff fantastic. Very clean, serviced daily. Great stay in Santa Cruz
- YELENA (6/5): - I think this B&B is way overpriced for what you get. Most of the rooms are dark with minimal lighting, not what you want on a tropical get away. Breakfast is very simple and is the same each day. We had 2 cockroaches in the room and one was actually IN the bed. I don’t know if cockroaches are just part of the deal being on protected eco land but to me it always screams “dirty”. Positive: within walking distance to everything.
- Alyssa Marie (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at Capitan Max. It was central to everything - ports, restaurants, entrance to national park (tortuga Bay Area). Breakfast was delicious and host was accommodating, leaving food out for us when we had early tours and helping us set up a taxi. Look forward to staying when we are able to make a return trip!
- Claudius (10/5): - Amazing stay. Pedro makes sure you feel at home from the moment you walk through the door. Rooms are spacious and sparkling clean. Would definitely book here again!
- Richard (6/5): - It was nothing special, very limited
- Anthony (10/5): - Captain Max keeps the B & B absolutely spotless. I love the Nautical theme atmosphere which shows Captain Max's love of the sea. Mateo, the son, is very helpful as well. They make all the guests feel welcome and looked after. I highly recommend Captain Max B&B to anybody who want to visit Puerto Ayora.
- Carole (10/5): - The personnel were so informative & willing to please. It is very centrally located close to restaurants, water taxis, & bus. We highly recommend this nautical themed, charming B&B.
- famida (10/5): - Excellent service. Excellent communication. They provide drinking water so you don't have to worry about buying water.
Captain and brother always there if we had any questions.
The best place to stay hands down.
Walking distance to pier for visiting other islands.
Close to restaurants, bank machine, bakery that bakes everything fresh.
Rooms are clean and spacious.
- Charlotte (10/5): - I felt very lucky to have chosen Captain Max for my stay in Puerto Ayora. The host Pablo is an absolute delight, and made sure that I had a wonderful time on Santa Cruz. He arranged awesome trips for me, and had an insider's opinion on where to go on the island.
The room was very nice. Clean, relaxing, good air conditioning. The breakfast was made to order which was great.
Cannot recommend enough!
- Theodore (8/5): - Nice central location to the property being in the heart of Santa Cruz and close to the water pier and water taxi. This is not a high end hotel but it is clean and the staff very accommodating.
- Kay (8/5): Met all our needs. Clean and comfortable. - Very clean hotel. Breakfast was good. Coffee was wonderful! Captain Max was helpful in making tour reservations and arranging transportation to and from the airport.
- Santiago (10/5): Excellent service - The location and service is the best. Pedro is a wonderful host willing to help at any time and upon any request.
- Edwin (10/5): - Great location. This property is close to everything and it has nice rooms and a great breakfast. The staff is amazing and welcoming. They go out of their way to make sure you have an amazing time. They arranged my pick up to/from the airport and they can arrange excursions for you. I highly recommend this place and definitely will go back.
- Kilmo (10/5): - Max was really friendly and very helpful with everything. The room was very clean and wonderful. I wanted to stay longer for more days if I could. The location is amazing. I definitely recommend this place
- Matthew (10/5): - Extremely friendly host and a great stay. Would 100% recommend.
- Sarah (10/5): - We had a short but lovely stay at Captain Max!! All the staff was extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions and advice on activities and sightseeing. Breakfast is very simple but made to order eggs were a great addition. The bed was comfortable and the hammock was a lot of fun too. They arranged our to/from ferry tickets to Isabela, reserved taxis for us, and let us leave luggage in the lobby not only the day we checked out, but also during a short ‘layover’ when we returned from Isabela but didn’t need to head to the airport yet. Overall top notch customer service and for the price point the facilities were clean and comfortable; I would definitely recommend a stay here.
- Jaspreet (10/5): - The staff was very friendly and very helpful. They were able to give us tips for what to do on the island. They helped us get taxis. Great breakfast. The room was really clean and very cute. The only thing was that our safe didn't work and they weren't able to fix it. However, it felt safe to leave our stuff in the room. Would definitely come back.
- James (10/5): A wonderful B&B - Pedro is an amazing host. We had our tours previously set up, but saw him help others set up tours. He helped us with the little details like which restaurants, walks. Each day began with Pedro’s smile, a hot breakfast of eggs, fruit, juice, coffee or tea, and toast prepared by him. Each day ended with Pedro’s smiling welcome home.
- Leslie T. (10/5): Great place and host - Pedro was great with helping us with taxis, recommending places and cooking a great breakfast!
- Geoffrey (10/5): - Pedro and Max were great - very well run little private hotel - immaculately clean. Very helpful on local bookings and advice. It is a local place close to the docks and tourist walks in a quiet side street. Rooms are small and comfortable and air conditioned - a critical need in Galapagos as hot all day and night.
- Joan (10/5): Little gem - This little B&B is great! It's in the middle of the town and is walkable to many attractions. The diamond of this B&B is Pedro and his customer service level is beyond expectation - always with a smile. Thank-you Pedro!
- Chiara (10/5): - We had great stay, the staff was friendly and attentive, always happy to help us - from calling tour companies or giving advice to starting breakfast a little earlier when we had early tours. The bed was spacious and we loved the hammock - perfect for a siesta! We would definitely recommend staying here!
- Katherine (10/5): Five stars for Captain Max B&B - Our stay at Captain Max B&B was super. The manager, Pedro, was very accommodating. He had someone waiting at the airport to pick us up. He gave us advice on where to eat and where to go and helped us with all of our day tours. He reminded us each evening of what we would need for the next day, what time we would need to be ready, and served our breakfast early before our tour. We stayed 6 nights and found our room to always be clean and comfortable. Pedro helped us with cabs, general information. He shared so many interesting facts about his life there. He was what I would consider to be a super host. Thanks to him we had a fabulous week on Santa Cruz.
- Nancy (10/5): - The host of this property is amazing. So helpful, kind, and welcoming. Would recommend to anyone staying on Santa Cruz
- Rhonda (10/5): - If I could give service more happy faces, I would! Pierre greeted me with a smile and things only got better from there. I went without a plan because I wanted guidance once I got there. I asked Pierre to help me pack days full of adventures. He planned out my entire trip, booked my excursions and then even sent me messages to remind me of my plans when I went to a different island. Also, I had been traveling for over a month and ran out of cash, I had read Galapagos accepted credit cards, but they really don’t. I had no cash for excursions. Pierre booked them anyway and then helped me find a way to get cash transferring money to him and then him giving me cash. (I did not have a debit card and the bank in Galapagos would not do a cash advance). Truly, I would have had nothing going on in the Galapagos if not for Pierre. Then when the photos from an excursions didn’t transfer, I sent Pierre a message and he was able to get in touch with the agency and get me the pictures!! Truly an awesome guy with a wealth of knowledge and abundantly helpful!!
- Teresita (10/5): - Great B&B in the heart of Puerto Ayora. Pedro was the perfect host. He went out of his way to make us feel at home. Highly recommend it.
- Jonathan-Arthur (10/5): - If you're looking for a place to call home during your time in Puerto Ayora, look no further than Captain Max B&B! Pedro is an absolutely gem of a human! Always with a smile, laughing, and doing his best to make you feel at home. Lovely breakfast (have an early tour? Tell Pedro the night before an he'll make sure the coffee is ready for you and you have a to go bag for the day!), the bed was comfortable, the room very clean, and the location is perfect for getting to the dock where the boats and tours leave from. Can't recommend it enough! Will definitely stay there again next time we're in Puerto Ayora!
- Hailey (10/5): - Capitan Max was a wonderful place to stay! The host was very friendly and accommodating. He even woke up early to make us breakfast for the days we left early. We ended up adding an additional night because it was so great! I would highly recommend this place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great spot in Puerto Ayora - Awesome place, went above and beyond to accommodate for our stay, including letting us check in early.
- Michael (10/5): best place in pouerto ayora!! - I Just finished 3 days here and I’m telling you if you are looking at the reviews and searching for a place to stay this is the best choice in Pouerto Ayora! !
The rooms are great the location is the best!! and everything else is amazing !! but the most important thing is you have Pedro and Max always there for you at the reception they will book you the best tours and guide you what to do and what not to in the island .
There is a lot of competition from the traveling agencies around town but they will send you to the best tours because they care about the people staying at their place.
First time I’m writing a Review but I had to they deserve it :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): The best b&b in Galapagos - This b&b is a real gem in Puerto Ayora! Home away from home with outstanding hospitality, delicious breakfast, clean rooms, decent wifi speed, great location! We’ll definitely stay here again! Don’t hesitate to book it. Max is one of the nicest and kindest people we met during our trip in South America!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place in great location - This place is great- clean, centrally located, and nice staff! Would definitely stay here again!
- kayla (10/5): - The manager of this family owned spot was very friendly and accommodating. We arrived with no tour plans, as we were winging it, and within an hour he helped us confirm our week of travel plans. Very clean, complimentary fruit, eggs, and toast for for breakfast, good WiFi for Galapagos, and everything felt safe! Would definitely stay here again! You are also only a couple block walk from the port and wonderful restaurants.
- Sheldon (10/5): Immaculate facility, personal service - Captain Max is immaculately kept, the bed was comfortable (with 2 USB ports and a reading light next to each side), the shower was perfect with plenty of hot water, and the AC amazingly quiet. The breakfast was good too. But the real positive about Captain Max was the personal service from the Captain and his brother. They took care of every need, like first-rate concierges. Also, right next door is a local restaurant with good local food at great prices, frequented by residents as well as visitors.
- Allen (10/5): Great little B&B - Nice little B&B. Great staff, clean comfortable rooms. Not far from the main street and dock. We stayed several times as we came and went from other excursions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - inviting, friendly, very clean. coffee available all day. best wifi experience on the islands.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hospitality of Max was above and beyond. The place was decorated beautifully and exceptionally clean. We happened to be stranded during the Covid 19 crisis and Max made sure we knew what was open and checked on us constantly. I can't say enough about Max and his business
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The family that runs this B&B were extremely nice and they went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We stayed here 3 nights. The location is great, close to Los Kioskos, the ferry/taxi docks, the fish market, and the trail to Tortuga Bay. The air conditioners worked well and there was hot water. The free breakfast every morning was unbeatable! Fresh juice, pancakes, eggs, toast with the most incredible fruit jellies, coffee, tea, yogurt, granola, and cereal. The rooms were spacious and had plenty of usb ports and electrical outlets to charge phones/cameras etc. They provided a book with directions on how to get to the best restaurants and attractions. Lourdes was very helpful in arranging a taxi to bring us to the highlands. I highly recommend this place. Wifi was a little spotty in the rooms but worked well in the common areas. This was no big deal to us. Wifi seemed spotty everywhere in the Galapagos and I enjoyed not being connected 24/7.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay here. Max and Lourdes were really friendly, helpful and welcoming. Also the location is great - it’s central, a very short walk to the port for boat trips and also on the road that leads to Tortuga Bay.
- Dušan (10/5): - Max is a wonderful host, we really enjoyed our stay there. The B&B is located slightly off the main street, so no noise and everything is within a few minutes walk.
- Jen (10/5): - I stayed here with my 2 boys and we had a wonderful time. It was very clean and the staff was very friendly and made us feel very safe and welcomed. We would definitely stay here again. The breakfast was fabulous. Eggs, pancakes, bread, fresh fruit, fresh rust juice, cereals and coffee. wifi was strong.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly hosts who made us feel right at home.
Very convenient location.
Comfortable bed and effective air conditioning.
Stayed twice during our time in Galapagos.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The family that runs the property is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Right before our stay, they sent out an extremely detailed email with lots of useful information on both the hotel and Santa Cruz. They greeted us warmly every time we returned to the B&B, and they offered helpful advice in person, such as when to leave for our flight from Baltra airport.
Our room was spacious, and the breakfast included made-to-order eggs, which was a nice touch.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was an amazing stay. Max went out of his way to take care of us during our short stay in the Galápagos. Highly recommended!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel was such a great stop for us. Firstly, the hotel is very clean, the rooms are large and the beds are comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and gave us a good start to each of our days. On a day when we didn't want to eat out, the staff gave us access to their kitchen so that we could prepare sandwiches for ourselves. All of the staff were very professional and accommodating and really went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. We would like to give a big thank you and shout out for Captain Max and his brother Pedro for helping to make our exploration of the Galapagos Islands exciting, fun and memorable. We arrived without any tour bookings and the brothers helped us with excellent recommendations and with making the right connections for finding and booking the tours and activities that were important to us. We highly recommend this property!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really nice staff, room was comfortable with great air conditioning and in room safe. Bathrooms are basic with a decent amount of towels. A few of the rooms are off the desk/breakfast area so they are noisy in the morning. Location is very central and walkable.
- David (8/5): I would stay here again - Great location. Nice people. Comfortable. So so breakfast.
- Vicki (10/5): - Pedro was so very welcoming! He helped us make plans for our trip. The breakfast provided every morning was great and we could eat as much as we wanted.
- Rebecca (10/5): - A secret gem in Puerto Ayora! Nice and safe B&B for my three days/two nights to visit. I wish that I could’ve stayed longer. Less than half a block to the evening kiosks for dinner, a 5 minute walk to the main pier and stores, and located off the main road for less noise. The staff especially Pedro was very knowledgeable and helped call for an early morning taxi before leaving the island. Norma’s breakfasts were delicious and fresh. My room was comfortable, clean, and had AC and a TV. Water was available in the lobby any time you needed. It was perfect for the value. 😃
- Andres (10/5): Great place in Galapagos - This was a great choice. It's a small B&B with 6 rooms near the kioskos street ("food street") walking distance to the pier and to several shops. Breakfast is included.
Staff is really helpful they give pretty good recommendations on what to do and where to go.
