Guest Reviews
- Mel (8/5): - Super clean and friendly staff Sensitive to deodorizers way too many but due to the climate I understand why
I don't like using microwaves
- Sarah (5/5): - for a stay near the airport it is an okay option the bathroom was really dirty
- Almada (7/5): -
- Vincent (9/5): Homily, endearing and beautiful. - The breakfast hit "the spot"! I hadn't been home for a bit and it was all that I missed and more! Fresh and tasty.
I enjoyed the family like setting and the congeniality of the hosts. I also enjoyed the neighborhood. The bed. It was comfortable but a bit noisy once you decide to make a turn, and I am a terrible sleeper.
- Veronica (5/5): Decent/functional low cost choice for a night or two - Overall pretty clean, shared small fridge in room, solid WiFi, public bus nearby can go into town, safe area and place, quiet neighborhood Owners/managers not really hospitable, no public additional bathroom which is inconvenient if bathroom in shared room is occupied and I had an emergency, far from central area though not long ride with car/bus
- Guerrero (10/5): Red Hut Inn, Belize - The owners were so personable and sincere. Love this wonderful couple. They are both good cooks. In the room the drainage in the shower was slow so it backed up a little. But it drained.
- Paul (8/5): - Good price Outside of town
- Jean (9/5): -
- Patricia (9/5): - Très bon accueil, toujours présents et réactifs quelque soit la demande, des gens adorables. Les petits déj. et diners sont bons et variés. Le rooftop est appréciable et convivial.
- Don (8/5): - We esp appreciated their transport service, informal food options and money exchanging. Neighborhood
- Camilo (6/5): -
- Joshua (10/5): Loved staying here, absolutely nothing to complain about. Had a great time here, and was awesome to get to know Louis an -
- Kim (9/5): -
- mélynna (10/5): - The owners are just so accommodating and helpful !
- Gilberto (9/5): Tranquilo y relajante - Anfitirón muy amable
Comodidad para descansar
- Rodolfo (5/5): - Tranquilidad del lugar Lejos de la ciudad. Significa agregar 10 o 20 US dolars a la estadía.
- Rui (8/5): - 位置便利
- Jonathan (10/5): -
- Abigail (9/5): -
- Ann (10/5): Relaxed, comfortable and caring with snacks, soda and hot water for a refreshing stay. - This is a terrific backpacker style motel with single rooms as well as dormitory style accommodation. We opted for the rooms as we had come to the end of our trip before flying out and wanted to cool out before heading back to the US. The at home vibe was relaxing, and the cast of characters also staying there was delightful. Lewis is a wonderful chef and Julia is attentive and caring. There was a weird Austrian, but it was part of the experience of meeting people during travel. A good reminder that we’re all together in this world!
- Alexis (8/5): Very honest, very lovely and very amazing staff - Very safe neighborhood. Groceries are around the corner.
- CHRISTOPHE (1/5): - De nada A place to avoid, very bad atmosphere, the owner should change professions.
- Fernando (7/5): AC Trouble - Great balcony, closer to local transport, friendly staff. They cook dinner and breakfast for an extra price. I couldn't control the room temperature, the A/c was 16 degrees, a bit cold while you are sleeping, I got sick for sleeping with the A/C the all night, and I couldn't do anything about it.The next day I started to cough and having a runny nose.
- Alice (8/5): Best local food for cheap! - The food was amazing, the owner went out of her way to warm up some dinner for me at 11pm when I arrived. The cold white lights.
- Thomas (8/5): - The staff gave me a ride to the airport, which was nice. I didn’t have to call a cab.
- Nicole (10/5): - Great stay! I would definitely stay there again.
- Abram (10/5): - nice employees, easy processes, great setup
- Patrick (10/5): I enjoyed my overnight stay because the day before I was in Placencia. - It was close to the store and the airport I booked online for $35, but when I checked in it was BZ86 ( Ride Belize ), and they took a copy of my Passport . I have stayed at another hotel here and no one asked for a copy of my Passport.
- Anthony (10/5): - I loved the staff.
- Tate (10/5): - Really comfortable stay in a quiet neighborhood close to the water. Lewis was a great host and coffee/breakfast/drinks were easily available at the Inn.
- Yixin (3/5): A poorly managed property with poor attitude to customers - One male staff was friendly. The room had a strong sewage smell from the bathroom sink. The two female staff were fairly unfriendly. One of them (The owner) kept telling us no one else minded the smell other than us.
They also charged fees for small luggage storage, $5 per day per item even when they knew we booked two nonrefundable stays in the property, a very unusual practice for hotels services.
- Christian (8/5): - Lewis was a fabulous host. The property is a bit dated, but it is clean. The dorms have comfortable enough bunk beds and cool AC. Overall, very good value for money.
- Marjorie (8/5): Very good -
- Debbie (10/5): Perfect property with close proximity to airport - Quaint inn in the middle of a very nice residential neighborhood. Easy walking distance to grocery store, restaurants and a park with a colorful Belize sign. Manager was friendly and super helpful. We stayed one night to be close to the airport for a morning flight. Shuttle service provided by Louis was most appreciated. Would definitely stay again.
- Henry (6/5): - This is a quirky little old hotel in a somewhat rundown area. The bathroom sink was within the shower area. Not to everyone's taste.
- Coralie (6/5): - Nice people with an old property, in a good and safe area, with a great Lebanese restaurant nearby. Hot shower which is rare in similar hotels. Very old mattress and pillows, with good sheets.
- Adam (10/5): Wonderful find - My fiancé and I stayed here for a quick over night stay while waiting for our friends to land the next day. They have an option for them to pick you up from the airport for a flat fee that is cheaper than the taxis. They’re about a 15/20 minute ride from the airport.
Julia picked us up and was very friendly and polite. Gave us a bunch of recommendations while also informing us everything that they offered in house. Breakfast, dinner, coffees. Breakfast and dinner are an extra charge but, they’re very reasonably priced.
They have an in house chef Luis and he’s fantastic. Super friendly and very talkative. We also booked a little hour long car tour that Luis took us on. Showed us a lot of Belize city and was very educational.
Overall our stay was extremely pleasant and would 100% recommend them for a 1 night stay or a multiple day stay. Definitely when we return we will be staying with them both again.
- Lois (10/5): Exceptional -
- Randy (8/5): Very good - Awesome couple running the Inn.
- Ray (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet neighborhood with friendly, helpful hosts. The location is between downtown and the airport so both are easily accessible from the inn. My bed in one of the private rooms was comfortable and I had the best sleep. The beers are cheap and Lewis is an amazing chef. Definitely recommended. Can't say there was anything about the Inn I didn't like.
- Maria (5/5): Perfect for a quick stopover - It was good for 1 night stopover in Belize before going to the island. However it’s quite far from the ferry port. The hostel offers taxi service to the ferry it was 20BZ which was handy but I had to figure out how to get there myself from the bus. There’s a nice big terrace to sit out on and it was clean :) there’s also a big supermarket close by My bed was directly under the AC so it was freezing when I was trying to sleep as the blanket is really light. There’s also no kitchen to use for guests.
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Wesley (10/5): - Nothing but great things to say about this place and the hosts/staff. Despite some of my own challenges getting to Belize, Red Hut was very responsive in my queries and concerns. Airport pickup was easy, food was great and reasonably priced, and the local advice was good. Luis is happy to answer any and all questions and will work to make your stay easy and comfortable.
- Di (9/5): Economical, down to earth, and inclusive - the quintessential qualities for a backpacker’s stay - The property manager, Julia, and the jack of all trades chef, Louis, are wonderful hosts! As my first impression of the country, they were terrific ambassadors. They were thoughtful, hospitable, patient, and punctual during my short stay. The food was delicious and can’t be beat in taste or price. I was in the mixed dormitory where everyone was an eclectic mix of nationalities and ages - not at all the stereotypical party backpacker vibe one may associate with a hostel. Julia and Louis consciously fostered an engaging community where travelers and make connections and leave with more knowledge about the world - plus another friend! I felt very well looked after as a solo female traveler and would 100% recommend. I would appreciate more hanging hooks inside the shower and/or toilet, but mostly the shower area. Perhaps another small face towel/washcloth to be included with our regular towel would be really nice.
- Hugh (8/5): - Owners were great. Other quest were fun to
talk to
- Peter (8/5): - Nice people
- Kristi (10/5): Hospitality at its best! - The entire staff was kind, courteous and helpful, always. The meals were excellent and affordable. Highly recommend! I don’t have any dislikes.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Verified traveler (2/5): AVOID - COCKROACH INFESTATION & REFUSING REFUND!!
- 1/2
I booked 6 nights here because I was really unwell and needed to rest and be still for a few days with my own bathroom. By the reviews this seemed like the perfect place. It said peaceful and quiet.
Firstly, it was not quiet. There was a really loud and very annoying constant noise of I'm not sure what. Some sort of machine, it sounded similar to a generator!
Then, in the evening when I went to the bathroom I realised there was a cockroach infestation!! First there were baby ones, then medium ones and then big ones!!! I saw at least 7 running around - I have no idea how many there actually were!! AWFUL!!!
By this time reception was closed and I had no way of contacting anyone so had to sleep in a room knowing there was a load of cockroaches running around in the bathroom! I've got a bit of a phobia of them and am also asthmatic and cockroaches can trigger asthma attacks!
I had to then find somewhere else to stay last minute, pack and move again which is exactly what I was trying to avoid. And I had to go to the hospital and have tests done on that same day! Really not what I needed!
When I spoke to the hotel staff it was so obvious by their faces that they knew there was a cockroach infestation. When I showed them the photos and video, again it was written all over their faces that they already knew. You can tell when someone is genuinely shocked to when they are pretending to be shocked (like when you do a "wow that penny was in your hand the whole time - no way"
- Joachim (7/5): Good -
- Alanis (10/5): - Great stay
- Wes (2/5): - This property is a residential house in what appeared a very unsafe area. The property is very run down and unsafe. The house add multiple add on’s and roofs over roofs. Burglary bars on every window. I did not stay here and sacrificed losing my money for the safety of my family. The place is a scam do not stay here.
- Marco (10/5): Brilliant! - Everything was perfect. The hostel was very easy to find. Close to all shops, banks and other sights. Julia and Lewis were great hosts who looked after the guests and knew exactly what they wanted. One of the best hostels I've ever been to.
- Todd (10/5): - The owner was so nice! She welcomed us, explained everything to us and was just very pleasant.
We are only staying one night due to a flight delay but they treated us as though we were long time guests. Very happy!
- Leslie (8/5): Very good - Staff were great. Meals eaten there were delicious, although a little pricy. Location was a little out of the way.
- Thomas (6/5): Convenient place to stay for Belize international airport. - The location is useful for Belize city and airport. Staff is friendly and helpful.. Convenience. Building is safe and secure. Room was fairly clean. While it isn't cheap, for Belize City it's not bad, and we couldn't find many spaces that were more affordable so it's likely reasonable. Room was very humid/damp even with AC on dehumidifier mode. Space is semi basement with little natural light. Mattress on bed is uncomfortable.
- hazel (10/5): - This property is a neighborhood you won't expect to find, extremely quiet, high end, safe and comfortable to go for your evening's walks, Luis and Julia make my stay a homely enviroment, definitely will go back, everything was catered to for me, even my tourist attraction spots and no crowd, tour guides is one on one, next visit will be much longer, truly enjoyed
- Ronaldo (7/5): Good -
- Vanessa (10/5): - Worked in a pinch
- Brittany (10/5): - Ms.Julia and Mr.Luis are top notch. They are the perfect hosts. They went above and beyond to help me during my stay.
- Natalie (2/5): owners don’t care about their guests broken things and poor service. overpack the tiny rooms - The backpackers were nice
There was option to purchase transportation terrible beds
The bunk would shake, no proper ladder had to use from the other
Dirty sheets not changed
Nowhere to stow valuables
- Beat (10/5): - Lovely hostel owner greeted me in person and showed me around. More like a hotel than a hostel.
- Kenneth (10/5): - Exceptional staff
- Kevin Randolph (10/5): - Clean, peaceful, convenient location from the Airport. Julia and Lewis were awesome. Slept like a baby.
- Case van der (10/5): - The service is unbeatable. You really do begin to feel like a family member coming back home. On several nights I found myself lounging on the second story deck, engaged in a chat with the manager, Julia, for hours about tons of meaningful topics.
She and her husband were always available to prepare me a meal, and drive me anywhere I wished to go, when a taxi service would be more expensive, more impersonal, and less reliable.
If you’re alright with the quieter side of the city, then you cannot go wrong with the Red Hut Inn. There are still several dining options in walking distance. Rooms are kept air conditioned and the shower water runs nice and hot.
- AKI (10/5): - The managers of the Red Hut Inn, Julia and Lewis go above and beyond. They made me feel like I was home. I will go back again, for sure!!!
- Timothy (7/5): Good -
- Dean T (10/5): - this is in a safe surrounding environment and the staff is extremely helpful. Luis and Julia make this place an enjoyable place to relax and get rest. Thank you. Dean
- Lisa (10/5): - We liked.it.
- Beth (6/5): - The staff, especially Luis, was wonderful. The place was clean. HOWEVER, from the advertisement, I expected a community kitchen. There was none. I expected them to serve food, but there was none the first 2 day. You could not book an excursion, so I had to go to another hotel. There are no lockers for hostel beds. There are no hooks in the bathroom or shower to hang towels or clothes. There is no toilet except the one shared by the 8 bed dorm. There is no lock to the door of the hostel dormitory. Anyone can walk in, right off the street. I cannot recommend this for a hostel. The private rooms might be acceptable.
- Luke (4/5): Avoid - Clean room They overbooked the rooms (which judging by other reviews they do quite often) which took a while to get sorted. We then couldn’t move into our room as they’d given it to someone else. Our new room was not as good so they offered a free breakfast. Unfortunately this breakfast was not good and over half an hour late when we had a flight to catch. When booking a taxi they overbooked again meaning we had to share, which was fine but it was another thing they broke their promise on. Not a lot went right in our stay. I would not stay again, I would advise you to stay elsewhere unless desperate! The owner is remote, tries to sort things over the phone and is not sympathetic when things go wrong because of their own failings!
- Gregory (1/5): Poor location, poor facilities, but just as expensive as nicer places. We won't be back. - The only thing we liked was that one of the staff had the guts to go find a microwave and bring it to our room so we could at least heat up water in our room. The A/C worked well too. But the rest was negative. When we got to the Red Hut, they said they were overbooked and didn't have a room for us so they took our money and said to follow the young man and we had to walk a block with our luggage, across a major street in the rain - to the Siesta Inn which they said was a "sister hotel". The room they gave us was terrible - they said it was comparable to their rooms! No blankets, no coffee maker or coffee, no breakfasts, no microwave, and then we found the TV only worked on YouTube and I had to figure out how to get any hot water for the shower for a chinese made On Demand Water Heater. The location made us feel unsafe so we didn't want to leave the room. What a lousy night.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Alert! Do Not Stay Here - The promotions of describing The Red Hut Inn is deceptive, information is not current on website and images of this hotel are overrated and does not compare to the actual studio room. There are no restaurants and bars in the area unless you walk to the other hotel (Best Western Hotel) and utilize the accommodations they have on their premises. And its better and wiser to just rent a room from Best Western. When The Red Hut Inn advertise "walking distance" to the water that is subjective. Its a bit of an overwhelming walk because you are constantly harassed by vicious barks of dogs, or confronted by the stray dogs desperately looking for food and water. The property is raggedy, dead plants, beat up and uncoordinated chairs and tables. Poor plumbing. The bathroom sink is located in the shower. The drainage is so slow in the shower that your feet are bathing in dirty water. Make sure you screenshot your reservation because the hotel will attempt to deny you your paid room. Keep in mind that this hotel also has a dormitory setup for homeless or drifters which is concerning because they just squatter around. I do not recommend The Red Hut Inn.
- Joel (10/5): - Staff was great. Great breakfast. Great price
- Patrick (8/5): - I love that it was safe to walkable, but I was unhappy there was no TV in the room. It didn't say on the website, but I would stay again.
- Jerry_travel2024 (7/5): Quiet neighborhood hotel - Breakfast was good and the free coffee was appreciated. Doors to room slam hard so can be noisy.
- Kristina (8/5): Good last minute stay! - An unexpected and last minute stay, due to the ferries being cancelled but the staff really did their best to accommodate.
Clean and good facilities. Complimentary coffee, which is always a bonus.
- Tawfiq (10/5): - Neighborhood very safe.Hotel clean and calm.walking distance to restaurants ; coffee shop and grocery store
- Sheamani (10/5): - The staff were very helpful. Very affordable and clean!
- Reba (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay! Everyone was very helpful!
- Jakto (2/5): Only 1 night becouse the price... I didn't rest there - Roof it was nice to chill. I reserved room 4-beds. When I come they took me to the room 8-beds. It's ok, becouse only 1 tourist more. When I come the A/C was ON. I went the city, and after few hours I sow in the room fan. AC was switch OFF. And it was really hot inside. So I come to ask what happend, and I get: "You can get AC if you pay 5usd more...". I payed alredy 50 belizian dolars. + 5% of extra becouse I payd by card (usually is 2-3,5%) but ok. So I check the booking and I saw that there is AC in my order. But I show them and I get "This is not our mistke its Booking mistake". Wow! It was impressive. I give up. After 30 minutes, the Manager come and ask us to move to another room, becouse some grup o tourist come. Remember - I order the room-4beds. And he move us to 3-room bed under the roof where it was so hot! 1 night... and one night is enought. I didnt take rest. The fan is so noise.
There is no kitchen. There is no locker box for backpack. Location of the place is 6 km from the center of the city. I will not come back, deffinitly.
- Zhengxing (8/5): Very good - safe Quiet, good WiFi, clean room , AC. for 24 hours
- Marion (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janet (8/5): Stopver to islands - Nice quiet area, large verandah, good size room, helpful staff, walking distance to a big supermarket A top sheet would have been nice. There was only a blanket. I used my sarong
- Catherine (7/5): Fine for a stopover - The property was fine for a one night stopover. It has a nice rooftop, cheap beers, and offered shuttles to the water boat. It was a close walk to a supermarket and several takeaway options nearby. A staff member made several inappropriate and offensive comments.
- Nicoll (6/5): Very convenient stay between your flight ferry. Place is a bit worn down but excellent staff. - Staff were amazing. Big comfy bed. The place is a little bit run down. Quite a strong smell of drains coming from the bathroom.
- Shubham (10/5): Very good - Good host Very far from centre
- Rajeeva (1/5): Extremely Bad - Nothing It was old and rusty building
- JOHANNA (2/5): - Owner is not helpful.
- Taina (6/5): - Located in a very secure neighborhood, close to cool restaurants et near the sea. AC in the room and nice patio, but no kitchen nor easily accessible dishware.

- Shawn (10/5): - The staff was exceptionally hospitable and friendly. The hotel is within walking distance of several nice restaurants and bars, and there is a convenient store nearby. I was very happy with the hotel staff, and the price was very reasonable.
- Tasheba (2/5): - So I am a travel agent and I book this property for my two clients. I book this place with Expedia.com when I was doing the booking I didn’t see the option to add two names I only see the option to add one name so I add the primary person name. They both arrived at the property same time because they both coming from the same place. When they reach the property now the staff at the front desk going to let them know that is two person name should be on the reservation and not one and that they must pay $15 dollars more so the next person can stay in the room also. So I guess the staff at the property is scamming people and I am going to get in contact with Airbnb so they know exactly how these people are operating their business.
- Rudden (9/5): Superb -
