Guest Reviews
- Adi (10/5): - Very clean room, spacious, nice staff and friendly, the pool was clean and nice and the location is great. The restaurant needs more writers because when there were many people the food took much time to arrive and was cold. But everything else was amazing, including the staff in the reception who helped us with booking tours and everything we needed. Very recommended hotel!
- Luis (10/5): - The facility is so beautiful,so many fruit trees and awesome surroundings
The staff is very good, one thing i would like to see, coffee early in the mornings, before 7 otherwise you need to go out and try to find someone open which is very difficult
- Marabet (10/5): - Muy bonito lugar para pasar tiempo con familia lo único es que el jacuzzi no estaba puesto y tal vez un poco más de limpieza para la piscina sería algo que considerar.
- Othman (10/5): - Very nice people
- Rosita (10/5): - Very beautiful surroundings and easy access to a lot of nice events
- Dialma (8/5): - Clean and friendly staff
- Sue Ling (10/5): - Always a pleasure staying here, we've done it many times. The only suggestion would be to try to help reduce mosquitos (zancudos) inside the room, we spent quite some time killing a lot since I'm alergic to the bite
- Sulma (10/5): - Jardines
- Steven (2/5): - An ok place, very poorly managed.
The hotel itself is beautiful, aside from a dozen or so unfinished buildings in the back lot that give it a creepy vibe. (A couple have full grown trees growing up through the middle of the floor.)
The management is atrocious and the rooms are furnished with cheap crap they seem to have bought in the local market. The low light of my trip was when the full length mirror on the wall spontaneously fell apart (the cheap plastic frame came apart at the corners) and crashed to the ground in pieces. The hotel charged ME for that. I mean it wasn’t much— $17 or so— but I didn’t even touch it, and I specifically told them I refused to pay for it, and they just charged my card anyway.
So I hope they enjoy their $17 because I won’t be coming back.
- Melanie (10/5): - Everything was beautiful
- Ingrid (10/5): - The hotel was very nice, the staff was pleasant and willing to help with any needs. The food options were plenty and tasted delicious.
The only recommendation I would have is to put a fresh coat of paint in some of the areas.
However, that wouldn’t stop me from staying here again.
- Anna (6/5): - This is a nice hotel but the pool was not open as advertised. Hot tub was too dirty to use. Restaurant food was not good. Rooms and atmosphere was good and front desk was friendly .
- Yugo (10/5): - Beautiful view at the lake, nice place to relax
- James (10/5): - Wow spectyproperty and friendly staff large two bedroom was clean and quiet
Piscina agradable.
- Sender (10/5): - Its close to the Castle of San Felipe de Lara really nice view to the lake of Rio Dulce
- guido (10/5): - Traveling solo in motorcycle, first time here and in guatemala
Lovely place right in front of the lake
Lovely staff very helpful.
Room nice
- Lourdes (8/5): - I stood for one night and the hotel rooms are spacious, well ventilated and illuminated. The parking was close to my room which was fantastic. The constructions, gardening, decorations really sets guests in the tropics. The staff was friendly. While my staying there was an electric shortage, but the hotel's manager resolved within 15 minutes.
- Elsa (6/5): - The view and the stay is amazing ! It’s located in a perfect place ! The food amazing . I had a problem had to wait about an hour for them to put water in my room so I could shower , brush my teeth , or use the bathroom . Even after they put it on I took a shower afraid I was not getting water since the pressure was not working at all. For a place that looks amazing it sucked that the water was not working and they really were taking their time fixing it for my room
- Marling (10/5): - PERFECT FOR LARGE FAMILIES. I have 5 kids ranging from 1 to 12 and the layout of the rooms was perfect. The activities on site were also perfect. There's a pool that's safe for 5 year olds but deep enough so the older kids enjoy as well and a separate deeper pool for the bigger kids. BEAUTIFUL. PEACEFUL. PERFECT.
- Raul (10/5): - Amazing place overall, pool was great my son enjoyed that for two hours at night. Staff at front desk was very professional. Dining was great, excellent food and staff at dining was super friendly and professional
- Nathanael (10/5): - Great hotel on the edge of Lake Izabal. Good pool and rooms. Walking distance to the Castillo San Felipe. Perfect stop on the way to Tikal.
- Arnold (10/5): - The area is so beautiful.
- Sarvia (10/5): - Me gusto mucho la villa donde nos quedamos, limpia y comoda.
- STEVEN (10/5): - Super clean, nice place. Hot water tank probably undersized because shower was hot for 5 min, then went cold.
- Estuardo (8/5): - Beautiful view to the lake, love the cotuzas walking around. A lot mangos trees, good services.
- Silvia (8/5): - Clean, quiet, great view. Near attractions. Good service.
- Tony (10/5): - Has its own boat pier. Very convenient
- Byron (10/5): - We faced a storm and the power went out. They have a power plant that allowed us to sleep comfortable (given how hot and humid, sleeping without A/C would have been difficult). The staff was very friendly, and very serviceable during the storm
- Brian (8/5): - The property has beautiful photos from say 10 years ago when everything was new. Now the facilities are deteriorated and have not had much upkeep. It was still a good stay. The beds were comfortable, and the location was nice. They do not allow you to rent any tours or jet skis and pick them up on their dock. It would have been nice to know beforehand.
- Vinicio (10/5): - The view
- Marcus (4/5): pretty below standard hotel - The hotel in general was good, they had a seperate pool for children and adults which was not upheld, the adult pool was full of children… also no sunchairs there was about 4 in total. When questioned reception not much help…
Second day there we ate in the restaurant and I got food poisning.. Having worked in restaurants 15 years of my life there is no excuse for bad hygene. My second day of two was spoiled because of this… at the time I was too sick to complain.
The staff in general was attentive and very friendly.
- Ever (10/5): - This was our second stay. The view of the lake was stunning.
- Maria Renee (10/5): - Restaurant food and service is slow and food takes for ever
- Erick (8/5): - I rented a Family suite and I did not like that the room with the king size bed did not have enough privacy.
- Dolores (10/5): - Lugar muy seguro y agradable
- Karen (8/5): - Hotel was nice. It would've been nice to know only 1 pool was in service.
- Blanca I (10/5): - Everything was nice, no complain.
- Adelso (10/5): Nice stay - The place is beautiful i will definitely come back next year. The food is delicious.
- DAFNNEHR (10/5): - This place was great they have so much fun things to do and some are complementary!
- Moisés (10/5): I going back - Banana palm is a great place, good service good food good price, good location lake front over all a very good place.
- Romilio (8/5): - Everything was great awesome
- Sheryl (6/5): Good family location! - Banana Palms Hotel IS a fabulous place to stay for a fun fun family vacation. soooooo much to do for all ages and what is good, there is a kiddy pool and adult. Kayaks are provide and in a short minute you are paddling into the beautiful water of Lake Izabel. We had a 2 bedroom villa and it had a veranda / lanai that the kids hung out in. But they loved the water! Spacious rooms, very comfortable. Supper menu was pricey, so we did have meal off property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We will definitely be returning to Banana Palms. Perfect for families or a romantic getaway, clean, very secure, and with a great variety of activities. The only disappointment was that the jacuzzi was not heated and only one of the jet skis was working so we did not get to spend as much time as we would have liked. The location is great - we walked to Castillo San Felipe within 15 minutes!
- Carlos (10/5): Five 🌟!!! Service. - Excellent service very good place to have a vacation family people are very nice and professional five stars service!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good
- Nery (10/5): Best of Guatemala - Excellent place if you really want to have a peace and fun stay in Guatemala this is the right place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful waterfront resort
- marlon (6/5): Good location, bad amenities not recommended - The location is good, easy access to the lake. Hotel amenities not so good. The room did not have lamps on night stands had to get out of bed to turn the lights on, did not have plugs by the bed to charge electronics. The room had only two plugs one by the sick area and the other behind the tv. Tv too small ant the reception was horrible. The Wi-Fi never worked, no mini bar and refrigerator. The food
Available in the the restaurant was less than average an too expensive for the quality.
- Jose (8/5): - Location was really great. Near to Castillo San felipe!
- Pedro (10/5): - Excellent staff and amazing view and facility. Eco frendly designed hotel. Only need to improve the restaurent because food are not good .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excelente ubicación, instalaciones, buen servicio .... solamente me pareció un poco caro el restaurante
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Beautiful location and use of kayaks. No phone in room so to order room service you need to go out to hotel restaurant to order..ecen in pouring rain! No lamps, no internet service, even close to office.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall our experience staying at this hotel was satisfactory
- Andrea (10/5): - This place is even better than I expected, i looked forward to coming back after our activities. The security of the gate when u come in the parking kit Andy the quitness of the overall resort is great. Wish we had stayed more days! The staff is ok, not super friendly but polite. There is no wifi in the room, only common areas, but really that was good for family time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very accommodating hotel because I got there late but they were happy to open the gates after I called to let me in. Beautiful hotel by the Rio Dulce, only wish is that they have Wi-Fi and a stronger hot water system.
- Ross (8/5): - The best part is location. It is a lakefront property with a beautiful view of the lake from its pier and walk paths. It's family friendly.
It is close enough to downtown Rio Dulce by car and far enough to spend a quiet weekend at the hotel.
The room has a bit of humidity but that seems inevitable. The bathroom seemed dated but clean. The staff was friendly and courteous. Overall it was a nice stay.
- Anne (10/5): Gem on the Rio Dulce - WOW - we just Loved Banana Palms. Room was clean, and spacious. The property is just lovely on the banks of Rio Dulce. The open air restaurant can't be beat for it's view, service and food. We are planning to return. Very safe property, and just a lot of fun for couples or family. The pool was just lovely, and once in the pool, it felt like an infinity pool, as you could see the river beyond. Service staff were just wonderful.
- javier (10/5): - Great people, great facility, great food. Will go back if I am ever in the area again
- Leonel (10/5): Awesome - Loved to stay at Banana Palms Hotel, staff was very kind, room was clean and better than expected. Definetly stay there next time.
- Carlos (10/5): - Very clean amenities and grounds, staff are very friendly and attentive, food was delicious, we were very satisfied with the whole experience
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The resort is right on the river, has a good restaurant, and swimming pools.
- Manuel (8/5): - The place is very nice. The road to the hotel is in bad shape. Food is not great and quite expensive. If I decide to stay again in this hotel, I will have to go out to eat.
- Juan (8/5): - The hotel is right on Izabal Lake. It is a beautiful environment. This is the best part of the hotel experience.
- Jmachem (10/5): - Really nice hotel, ideal for family or romantic getaway. Very clean rooms and friendly staff, good restaurant and great areas of recreation.
- Nicole (10/5): Facilities, service and food: excellent! - Above expectations! The staff is great, everything is very clean and the pool facilities as well as room and restaurant are a 10.
- Sisu (10/5): - Its a beautiful place highly recommended
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good place to hide out nobody there.if you want me to write more, pay me.
- Karen (10/5): - Wonderful facility, wish we could have stayed longer
- Verified traveler (8/5): - You could not ask for a better view for this hotel. It is right on the river and next to the Castillo de San Felipe. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms themselves were a good size. They just need a better cleaning. Be prepared to see some "friends", I am not sure if that was because of cleanliness or because you are in a tropical region and next to water. Overall a good place to stay for a quick visit.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Un lugar muy tranquilo, con piscinas hermosas, al frente del lago
- Yadira (10/5): Best hotel in Rio Dulce - Banana Palms hotel is beautiful. The service is amazing. So many areas of the hotel to enjoy. The complimentary kayak ride was great!
- Natalie (6/5): It was ok - The rooms were pretty basic, price seemed to high for what was offered. Food was amazing! Room had a lot of mosquitos and there was no candles or mosquito nets which was extremely odd being so close to the lake.
- Joana (10/5): Overnight stay...amazing hotel! - Wished we had stayed another night. Hotel was marvelous. We had the suite. Room had some problem, but nothing major for me to mention. Best for me was seeing fireflies flying around at night. We love the hammock. Staff was friendly and hotel was a skip and a hop from Castillo San Felipe de Lara.
- An'e (10/5): Paradise on the shore of Rio Dulce - Beautiful place, room was super clean with its own private terrace complete with two chairs and a hammok. We got a Lakeview villa and were delighted with the view as well as the fireflies. Restaurant on property was delicious and had a great variety for breakfast and dinner.
The only area for improvement is the Internet was a bit slow and does not reach to the rooms. I used the data on my phone.
- SRE (8/5): Great location - Lovely hotel and great room.
Staff was excellent, however, they did not speak very much English.
The suite with two rooms is great, I just wish it had two bathrooms.
Overall great place!
- Michael (8/5): Nice resort on the beach of Rio Dulce - The place is nice located, installation looks good.
The hotel does not have a generator or is not working. The restaurant pretty expensive. The rooms are good cleaned but with a poor furniture.
- R (8/5): Nice and relaxing resort hotel - Awesome hotel for the price we paid. Within walking distance to San Felipe Castle, clean swimming pools, good food, wonderful view of the lake, great AC, hot shower, nice balcony. The only thing we didn't like was the service of the restaurant. The price of the food was high but the servers were not friendly nor attentive at all. Everything else was perfect.
- William (10/5): Excellent hotel/resort on Lago de Izabal - This is an excellent hotel/resort on Lago de Izabal. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, the room was large, clean and very nice. My only minor qualm was that their was no wifi in the room, only in the lobby, restaurant and pool areas. However, this wasn't a big problem considering how nice the place is and how affordable it is. The hotel is walking distance to Castillo de San Felipe, which is very nice to see. However, you will need to take a cab to get to downtown Rio Dulce. Overall, we loved this place and would stay there again!
- FLOR DE MARIA (10/5): - Beautiful place and great service.
- Leo (8/5): One of the Best hotels in the área of Río Dulce. - Was a pleasent stay. Food prices are way up expensive but the taste was ok. The shower in our room did not have enought water pressure. Taking a bath was not a nice experience. Besides of those akward things it was nice and the location was beautiful with excellent views.
- Sunny (6/5): Decent but misleading - This hotel is a bit of a facade. The entrance and pool area are grand and beautiful but the rooms themselves (we had a suite) were substandard and far too plain for the price of the hotel. The hotel advertised free wifi and room service but the wifi could not be obtained from the room - you had to go to the lobby for wifi which was also painfully slow. There was no phone in the room so the only "room service" available was if you left your room to order at the bar and asked for it to be delivered to your room, defeating the point. For two people, there were only two towels given in the room and no washcloths or handtowels. The room had a major ant problem, no cover on the light fixture, only an exposed bulb and the walls had been patched but not painted. The balcony and sitting area was nice but the room itself was 2-star, at best.
- P&ilip (4/5): Nice setting but bad choice. - Grounds were pretty but the room was not good at all. More like a 10 dollar a night room. Staff were not unfriendly but weren't friendly either. Would chose a different place next time.
