Guest Reviews
- Ersin (10/5): - Very lovely hotel, beautiful property, easy to find, ample parking, kind staff, walkable to much of Santa Elena. Recommended for sure!
- Cody (10/5): - Very nice and great for the money.
- Sofia (10/5): - This was a simple hotel with everything we needed and good proximity to all the shopping. My favorite soda in CR is across the street, its a must try. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Check in failure - Despite making a plan for late check-in, we were not able to get into our room for almost an hour. No apologies were offered
- Katrina (10/5): We enjoyed it - We enjoyed our stay and the local wildlife. The hotel is in a good location, within walking distance to a bar and restaurant. The room has an exterior entrance for privacy, was large and had a mini fridge, which is appreciated. Coffee is only available in the main communal area, which is a bit inconvenient but at least it’s available.
The breakfast was plentiful and delicious!
- Debra (10/5): - It was an overnight stay before catching a very early flight back home. The room was comfortable and clean.
- Sharon (10/5): Enjoyable stay - Charming surroundings. Helpful staff. Home cooked breakfast. Walking distance to St. Elena.
- Julie (10/5): - Hotel Claro de Luna was a lovely place to stay to be close to the cloud forest reserves. Walking distance to the shops and restaurants of Santa Elena. Beautiful Spanish style units with private patios. The staff are immediately responsive to any needs or questions. Extensive complementary breakfast buffet and my favourite thing... the 24 hour coffee station! Highly recommend!
- Murray (10/5): Super helpful reception staff. - The reception staff was very helpful, client oriented and friendly. She helped with tour booking and went out of her way delivering takeout to our room. Totally appreciated.
- Lisa (10/5): - Great location as it was an easy walk into the centre of town with restaurants and shopping, quick drive to hanging bridges and ziplining in the cloud forest.
Big and clean rooms, private covered porch for each to watch and listen to the wildlife. Small quiet restaurant for breakfast. Great spot!
- CECILE (10/5): - It was a nice 2 nite stay. We saw a toucan in their garden. The place has lots or greenery and foliage which makes it more relaxing. Breakfast was a bonus.
- Maneesh (10/5): - Nice place with lots of trees to watch birds and some smaller animals. Near the main shopping area of Santa Elena where there are a lot of restaurants and stores. Friendly and helpful staff!
- Mikhail (8/5): Cozy secluded Place. - Welcoming Friendly Staff.
Quite location, lots of flowers, birds chirping. They had a sloth in living in their yard. Which we got to see all the days we were there. Breakfast was good. Loved the home made jam.
Overall, was a pretty cozy place to stay.
(Bed was pretty firm, but that’s a personal matter )
- Michelle (10/5): - Stunning property, incredible landscaping, friendly staff, immaculate room. Fantastic value.
- Sai (10/5): - Friendly staff, very helpful, clean rooms, great breakfast.
- Maria (10/5): - We arrived early and were accommodated for a check in without any problems. The gardens and property was VERY well maintained and beautiful. There were so many birds, butterflies and flowers to enjoy. We even saw a sloth in the trees by the parking lot! The room was spacious and very clean. The shower had hot water and great pressure. I loved the morning breakfast with coffee. My only wish was coffee maker in the room not just tea/hot water. But coffee was always available if wanted. The front desk had excellent recommendations for excursions and restaurants. We had no car so they also helped with taxi when needed.
- ROBERT (10/5): - Lots of birds and flowers! Beautiful grounds
- Murray (8/5): - Large property and room. Staff were extremely helpful.
Breakfast buffet the same everyday
- Verena (10/5): Wonderful hotel and grounds - Wonderful hotel with lovely grounds and very friendly staff. Room was big and clean, with huge hot tub. The gardens are amazing, with so many birds and even a sloth.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Hotel! - Would stay here again for sure!
- Atousa (8/5): - Great location. Beautiful garden. Simple clean room. Quick and easy checkin . Beautiful dining room with simple breakfast.
The bed was not very comfortable. It was wooden and old.
Made squeak noise with ourevery move! We had comfortable in another room they said the same thing about their bed!
- Monika (8/5): - Erica at the receptions was ver helpful and kind
- Kristene (10/5): - Gorgeous grounds, felt like an oasis. Jennie prepared a delicious breakfast each morning, including a great homemade salsa and homemade marmalade. She also pointed out a sloth (perezoso) sleeping in a tree outside. Josephine was kind enough to help me book a night tour and to find a kayak tour in another city . Highly recommend.
- Mario J (10/5): A definite suggestion for your stay - The service and location were great. The staff was very nice and friendly, and were so helpful with suggestions on tours and restaurants. You can walk (5 minutes) to plenty of restaurants in main town of Santa Elena. For animal enthusiasts like us it was great, we saw plenty of beautiful birds on property and we even saw a sloth on hotel property on the first day of visit. We will definitely be back to this property.
- Marilyn (10/5): - This place was an incredible deal! Wonderful and helpful staff, beautiful grounds, the room was great and outfitted well, and the location was perfect. I would definitely stay again. My kids loved the gardens and we could easily walk to town. They helped arrange dinner reservations and tours which were all excellent.
- David (10/5): - A lovely property nestled amongst beautifully landscaped gardens.
- Albert (10/5): - Quaint
- Rich (10/5): Great spot for a big family! - We LOVED our stay in the house of the hotel (Casa de Luna). It had plenty of beds and bathrooms for the whole family and it was nice and cool and comfortable. The surrounding plants and trees on the property are beautiful and so well-maintained, I loved seeing green parrots and other birds in the morning, and relaxing on the hammock. Plus it was close to so many great activities. I would definitely stay here again.
- Misako (10/5): - Very beautiful place with lots of nature setting atmosphere. The receptionists were super friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, spotless, and bathtub was huge. The complimentary breakfast buffet was very delicious!
- Nataly (10/5): - We just loved the House we stayed in - spacious, amazing view, each bedroom had its own bathroom, the hammock outside made the stay so relaxing.
We did use the kitchen as much but we would if we would stay longer, absolutely fully equipped.
The receptionist called multiple places for us to find available night walk tour because many places were sold out for that one night we needed the tour. They even offer laundry service and made our laundry on time for our leave ! Overall great experience- we felt very welcomed by the property warm hospitality.. I wish we would stay longer..
- Steve (10/5): - We really enjoyed our two-night stay here. Very friendly staff. Room was spacious and clean. The breakfast provided was freshly made and delicious. Close to downtown…we walked to dinner both nights.
- Adam (10/5): - The Hotel Claro de Luna feels like a secret hideaway! Just a five minute walk to the center of Santa Elena, it is a truly a gem! We prebooked from the U.S. a nocturnal tour of Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve and they easily picked us up at the hotel. But I was having an issue with the reservation, trying to find out the time of pickup, and the woman at the hotel's front desk was extremely kind and helpful and resolved it for me. Our hotel room was enormous, replete with two canopy beds. The shower had beautiful tiles. Breakfast in the breakfast room was delicious. This hotel is a true gem!
- Devyn (10/5): - The location is so nice and the views are just beautiful. The staff was very friendly and assisting.
- Annie (10/5): - Great short stopover for family with kids with access to the Cloud Forest treetop and canopy tours. Kids loved the bathtub. Husband and I loved the walking distance to town. Grandma loved how comfortable the beds were. Super cute room decor and style.

- Angela (8/5): - Staff was very helpful
- Susanna (10/5): Great stay at central located hotel - Great stay at central located hotel. Concierge was very friendly and gave us useful info and recommendations for Monteverde. Free onsite parking. Room was a good size and very reasonable price. Nice breakfast included.
- Scott (8/5): - We initially ran into issues with loud neighbors but the staff made a stellar effort to make up for the issue. I am pleased and would stay again! Thanks!
- Billie (10/5): Beautiful hidden treasure. - Beautiful- hidden treasure. Loved my time there. Staff was first rate and very friendly. Rooms were very natural and native. Quiet and restful. Wonderful place to decompress.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - The gardens were beautiful, and it was nice to be at a well-known hotel so we could easily get picked up by transportation for the activities we did in nearby private parks. 5-min walk from the center of town! We got great recommendations from the staff too.
- Andrea (8/5): Gracias! - We loved our stay at Claro Luna Hotel despite having to move rooms due to loud noise persisting well past 9 pm from the room above. Jorge, the receptionist, fixed the problem pretty much immediately - moved us to a room farther away and offered us lunch on them the next day for the inconvience (at Monolo's seafood restaurant to be exact..where the food and his recommendations were OUTSTANDING). Jorge was very welcoming at check in and recommended a few things to eat and do in the area - which we were so thankful because all of his suggestions are spot on! Dont miss out on the sunset spot he recommends! We ended up staying an extra night, we loved the included breakfast and the cottage feel of the room. In a great location also. Would not hesistate to stay here again!!! Muchas gracias Jorge!!
- April (10/5): - This place was so cozy and clean. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Awesome location and could walk right into town and to resteraunt.
- Graeme (10/5): - Stylish ranch-style accommodation surrounded by beautiful gardens. It's a surprising large and quiet property, in the center of Santa Elena, like a tranquil oasis. The rooms was lovely - extra special were the 4-poster beds and the deep spa-bath - and the breakfast was excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Convenience location - Good place to stay ;) close to a lot of options around walking distance.
- Owen (10/5): Just Beautiful - This hotel is amazing. It is located just outside Santa Elena. It is like a swiss cottage completley surrounded by the most beautiful gardens. Truly spectacular. Staff all friendly and helpful. Have already recommended to others!
- Ricky (10/5): - It’s a beautiful place to stay at in Monteverde
- Kevin (10/5): - The place was beautiful, staff was friendly and helpful
- Jorge (8/5): Good hotel with key Cons - It was an overall good stay as the place is walking distance from the town and has areas to eat around.
Cleaning instructions where not clear there was a sign for service in the room but a paper sign that said to only place the sign if you DID NOT want room service.
We did not get the cleaning service until the day we checked out, the bed matresses could use a refresh as they where not in the best condition and the jetted tub had a leak so it could not be used (one of the main reasos we booked this hotel when comparing to others in the area)
Overall the place is good value for the money but not the best.
- Dor (10/5): A lovely place to stay in - The place was very beautiful and relaxing, with a big and charming garden, and very cosy rooms. The shower was big and very comfortable, which is a big bonus for me. The owner is a very nice lady who had a lot of patient for explaining the attractions around. She also makes a very good breakfast.
- Iris (10/5): - Very nice place. Spacious rooms. Hot water Delicious breakfast
- Setareh (10/5): Absolutely Perfect - This hotel was so hard to leave. Erika is a very sweet, welcoming and helpful owner. The staff is very accommodating. The hotel is absolutely picturesque and a perfect distance from downtown. It was a little slice of peaceful heaven. The room and ground were perfectly maintained and very clean. Breakfast was always delicious. I will be back again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a wonderful experience at this property. Erika is a great host. She's a jack of all trades. I will definitely be back to this property in the future with my family.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Erica was so friendly and helpful great breakfast
