Guest Reviews
- David (10/5): Great place - This pib in a lovely village was a great place to stay. The service was noticeably good. The food was gourmet and the room as well equipped as any we have stayed in.
- Andrew (10/5): Highly recommended - Lovely place to stay whilst walking the South Downs Way, the staff were all brilliant, so friendly and attentive and couldn't have done more to make sure we were happy.
- Faye (10/5): - I stayed at the White Hart on a work trip and it was delightful. Quintessential English charm and all the comforts of home while I was away. The food was great and the coffee/lattes are even better. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the room was neat and comfortable. I was sad to have to leave but had a lovely time!
- Jessica (10/5): - Surrounded by gorgeous countryside with lovely hosts. Delicious food and great walks across the Downs nearby taking in breathtaking views. Can highly recommend!
- Neil (8/5): - My family and I loved our stay. The staff were welcoming and very friendly. The only reason I did not give an excellent review is due to the lack of Gluten free options.
- James (10/5): - First stay here. Will definitely book again when I'm next down near Petersfield on business..
Great location, fabulous food, clean and comfy room.
Parking limited but also available on street in front.
- Yvonne (10/5): Highly recommend - Our stay was perfect. Lovely staff, great food, great accommodation. We highly recommend.
- Tom (10/5): - I travel a lot for work and have stayed in various hotels and this is by far one of the best. Very cosy, polite and friendly staff, lovely rooms and overall a perfect stay. Would definitely recommend
- Lottie (10/5): Lovely Stay - It was a lovely cozy place to stay, would definitely recommend and will be going back soon.
- Chris (10/5): - Fabulous place to stay and restaurant and pub is great also. Felt like authentic British pub! We were well pleased.
- Katie (10/5): Lovely countryside stay -
Staff are always so friendly and helpful.
The room was comfy and cosy, the three of us love to stay here!
- Ross (8/5): - Nice Stay
- Patrick (8/5): - Loved it here. Room paintwork a little tired but not the end of the world. Need to put a towel down to block draught through door. Nice touch supplying fresh milk in a mini fridge. Teas, coffees tasty. I would definitely stay again. Book direct with them next time as it's cheaper
- Lesley (10/5): - Nice staff. Lovely breakfast
- Lewis (8/5): - Overall very nice set in picturesque grounds in a quiet village with pleasant rooms. My only criticism was the room floor felt a little unclean and could’ve done with a good hoovering. Otherwise all good. Food in pub was nice too.
- Leigh (10/5): - Excellent, no complaints, would highly recommend this fantastic place. Staff, rooms, food, facilities are all excellent
- Ada (10/5): - Beautifully done rooms very relaxed. Loved the choice of walks in the area
- Stuart (10/5): Great place! - Highly recommend. Staff were fabulous and friendly. Room was great - clean and very comfortable.
- Lewis (6/5): - Overall a very pretty location and the pub was very pleasant. However, my room backed onto the rear of the pub which had an extraction system from the kitchen running 24/7 so it was not possible to open the window due to the noise from this. Otherwise no issues. I suspect other rooms with more pleasant outlooks would be nicer so worth bearing this in mind when making a booking.
- Home (10/5): A star!! - Such a welcoming and cosy pub. Our room was outstanding and had absolutely everything you needed and so spacious. So refreshing to even have phone chargers and usb ports each side of the bed. Really dog friendly, lots of treats etc provided. Staff fantastic and a wonderful breakfast service. I really could not fault our stay. South Harting is also such a gem with of course the pub, a lovely shop, new coffee/antiques shop and beautiful countryside. Petersfield is also a lovely marker town.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Memorable visit - A stopover for a birthday event nearby. Everything was great. Rustic roof room, pleasant bar and excellent breakfast.
- PETER (10/5): - Our stay was an excellent experience with good food. The only minor issue was that the shower tray sealant had some mildew which the manager said was about to be replaced.
- Denise (8/5): Enjoyable overnight stay - Really enjoyed an overnight stay here, cute village and surrounded by lovely countryside. Service was very friendly, the pub has a lot of character. Food was ok
- Richard (10/5): Creature comforts off the South Downs Way - Unlike a lot of pub rooms, this one had a decent size bathroom with an amazing shower.
Room quaint & comfortable.
Staff a friendly bunch, breakfast good especially liked being able to help myself to filter coffee.
- Susan (10/5): Fabulous - A beautiful room, extremely clean and comfortable. The restaurant food was superb and I got one of the very best full English breakfasts I have had in a long time. Fresh, high quality and well cooked. Thanks also to the team there who were really friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.
- Amelia (10/5): - Friendly staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good stay - Checking-in was pretty straight forward, fast & easy. Room a little tiny but clean, tidy & comfortable. Great for a short stay. Bed is a little soft for me but for a night, I can cope.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn a table for dinner was booked for us.

Staff couldn't have been more helpful
- george (10/5): - Location in a picturesque village makes the White Hart perfect for a over-night stay in a friendly country Inn.
- Michelle (10/5): - It's a beautiful inn and was one of our favorite places as we hiked the South Downs Way. They've done a good job of updating it so as to make it comfortable. Staff are great and it's clean and pleasant. The food at the pub is also good.
- Jason (10/5): - Really pleased with the condition of the property.Everything all you need is supplied.
Would definitely return in the future.
- Kerry (2/5): Don't bother going here - Dreadful. The room was TINY and overpriced and in an old shed/barn with a tiny low down window. I can't remember how much sleeping there and dinner and drinkers were but I paid around £250 if I remember correctly.
The ceiling had a window with no accessible way to get the curtain to close and so I was woken up at 5am and never got back to sleep. I arrived at the B&B in good spirits, left this B&B exhausted and feeling ripped off.
I tried to settle the matter amicably by writing two emails to the hotel but the hotel never even bothered to reply to my emails so I left an honest review instead. They obviously do not care otherwise someone would have phoned me.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great character and staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): Absolutely recommended! - Lovely pub with rooms, very comfortable and we were very well looked after. Fantastic food too, and a lovely location with easy access to the South downs way. Note a cooked breakfast is extra - but if you've had their amazing steak the night before, you probably won't need it!
- Samuel (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Very smooth and easy check in. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was well kept, clean and modern but still had character as an older building. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved our stay here for Goodwood FOS. The room was really clean, comfy and charming. Very spacious and the finishes were rustic and full of character. The staff were so friendly and approachable - very accomodating.
Food was excellent too! Definitely recommend.
- Russell (10/5): Great stay - Best little place I have stayed in for ages. Really friendly staff, lovely little room and the food for dinner was really good.
- Martin (10/5): Amazing 2 nights - amazing room with a view thats to die for. Extremely clean and the staff cannot do enough for you. Would definitely recommend to stay here
- Graham (10/5): - Great place and pleasant staff
- David (6/5): Won't put us off this diamond of a weekend break - The White Hart is one of our favourite pubs and the rooms have always been lovely. Bit of an issue with this stay though, as the boiler to the adjoining rooms was broken, so no heating. The manager did purchase some free stand heaters though for the rooms affected. We had a power cut in the morning which couldn't have been helped, and resolved within 20 mins....but also the shower was leaking in the bathroom. The staff that were working were very helpful, but I think they had a few missing on the day. Won't stop us from returning though, especially when they reopen indoors.
- Phill (10/5): Excellent stay !! - Fabulous stay very comfortable rooms furnished too a very high standard.
Met by my host Bob who was excellent throughout- although not fully reopened yet it’s a great experience and I will be back to enjoy the full delights in May
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely cozy rustic property was lovely views and great food!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable room, friendly staff and tasty food. Would stay here again.
- Mark (10/5): Old World Charm - Excellent pub and hotel, really friendly staff and the breakfast was really good, smoked bacon. The pub at the moment does not do food on a Monday or Tuesday evening which was a shame as the menu looked fantastic. Lovely beer garden and the inside of the pub is old world beams. Will stay here again if in the area, would be good for a weekend getaway.
- T (8/5): Very clean and comfortable stay - The pub had a one-way system through their bar area into their garden and to their rooms, suggesting a well thought out system to help with social distancing by avoiding 'bumping into someone' coming the other way. They also provided hand sanitizer, masks and gloves available to guests for free on entry into the pub. All surfaces looked very clean and the pub mandated for their staff to wash their hands every 20 minutes while at work.
Our room was very clean and tidy, and had a sanitising aerosolised surface spray, which was good to see. Our bed was queen sized, which for us is a little smaller than we'd like, however we did strip the bed after our sleep to see what mattresses they use as it was such a comfortable night's sleep!
We took breakfast in the garden, which was lovely, and the cooked breakfast was excellent!
My only disappointment was our room only had a small window with a view of the car park. I saw there are rooms available with windows overlooking the garden, and would think these would be more pleasant to stay in if you enjoy a room with a view.
