Guest Reviews
- Fiona (8/5): - Pros: Staff were lovely and it was excellent value for money. Rooms great for price point and food very good.
Cons: Looks a little untidy externally and the breakfast offering was a little confusing if you hadn't already booked.
- James (10/5): Nice room and good food options. - Nice room and good food options, also in a pleasant location.
- Tracy (10/5): - We loved the features throughout the building. The beams, low ceilings, uneven floors...really kept the character of the building. Rooms were nice albeit a bit strange having the shower in the room and not in the ensuite but good use if available space given grade 2 listed building regulations.
- Nicola (10/5): - All the staff were kind, friendly and helpful! The food was delicious.
Escobar the pub dog was a particular highlight for me!
- Sharon (10/5): What a gem! - We stayed for 2 nights and had the best time - The room was lovely and spacious with everything we could need in there - the lovely shower was fantastic too (not one of those that hardly wets you that you find in some places!)
We ate from the lunchtime menu not long after we arrived and had a salad later in the evening - bot delicious and really fresh. Breakfast the next morning was beautiful - eggs benedict and waffles with bacon - both dishes really fresh and tasty. The staff gave us a local taxi number to get to the racecourse (about 10 - 15 mins away) so we had no worries on that count either. We had the Hanging Kebab after racing, again, delicious and so fresh.
Check out was seamless and easy too.
The staff are great, the management are so helpful and friendly too and we would both highly recommend this place to eat, drink or stay over - all of it was brilliant. Thank you
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great room & facilities, lovely restaurant - Great room, with lots of extras - mini fridge with fresh milk and cold water, coffee maker, good selection of teas/coffees/biscuits, Dyson fan, lovely toiletries. Comfortable bed.
Friendly helpful staff with great restaurant downstairs with GF options, large car park. Would definitely stay again.
- Victoria (10/5): - Very comfortable bed - clean .
Just expect as old building hearing creaking floors above / plumbing noises etc
- L (10/5): Will definitely be back - Lovely clean room. Well equiped. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Thank you!
- L (8/5): Overall pleasant stay - Lovely pub with rooms in a village location. Easy to find. Very friendly staff. Straight forward check in and out.
Room was a little tired and dated but comfortable. Very dog friendly.
- Mark (10/5): Perfect - Working locally and this was perfect for me. Lovely country inn in beautiful surroundings. Food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again if in the area. Would highly recommend.
- Carole (10/5): - Nice rooms, easy check in.
Excellent staff
- Vivien (10/5): A little gem in the heart of beautiful countryside - We booked the bunk inn for an overnight stay on route back to our home in Wales. What a little find it was!!! Really a quaint place to stay. Lovely food with great service from the hotel staff. Our room was lovely clean and bright with everything that we needed and good quality toiletries. We will definitely return when in the area but this time book more than an overnight stay!
- Laura (10/5): Amazing gem - A really simple and friendly check in. The staff couldn't do enough for you. Room was clean, spacious and beautifully decorated
- Gary (10/5): Couldnt fault it - Staff were all very friendly and the facilities were great. Food was also a really good standard
- Scott (10/5): - The food the landlord everything was perfect
- susan (10/5): - All excellent .
- John (8/5): Overnight stay.... - Very nice room, although slightly on the cool side with freezing temperatures outside.
The pub itself is extremely rustic and cosy!
- Sean (10/5): Warm and welcome - Very comfortable traditional Inn after a wet and windy journey. Warming log fire and friendly staff. Both accomodation and food were excellent - highly recommended.
- Sharlene (10/5): - The room was immaculate and extremely comfortable. Best night's sleep I had in a hotel for a while. I would say the only downside would be hearing tenants walking around in the room above us but this not take away from the overall comfort. Staff were also very accommodating with requests.
- John (10/5): Overnight stop - Bed very comfortable and plenty of USB outlets for charging. Shower was excellent and food very tasty.
- David (8/5): - Superb staff, great food and comfortable room.
- Adele (10/5): Very enjoyable stay. - Loved my stay. Genuinely dog friendly which makes a stay far more enjoyable for me. Lovely location too.
- Penny (10/5): Very dog friendly. - A lovely stay. Everything great. With a little attention would have been excellent. The little outdoor place to sit with the dogs could have been swept and the outside of the room. Would save the poor maid of leaves and gravel treading in. Also the curtains were not great. Easy enough to put more hooks on. Lovely comfy bed and a shower to die for!!
- Gary (10/5): - Great room and great staff. Will definitely return.
- Lorraine (10/5): - We had a lovely stay at the Bunk Inn, lovely room, lovely setting and traditional pub. Good standard of food and very efficient service 😊😊
- Chris (8/5): Sometimes it's the little things... - My wife and I always stay at the Bunk Inn when in the area, and have never had any problems. On this occasion, we both wanted to order a dinner main that we were only told was not available when we tried to order it. We were offered an alternative, but that was £10/head more expensive and not on the menu. In the round not a big thing, but perhaps could have been more clear, and the alternative offered at the same price,
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Bunk Inn is an absolute gem. The room was extremely comfortable and the amenities excellent. There is a cosy friendly bar and the restaurant and the meal we had was great. I really recommend the Bunk Inn
- Gareth (8/5): Charming - Charming, lovely people: very welcoming. Tasty food and very good service.
- Heather (8/5): Lovely pub. - The room was well stocked with gadgets ie, coffee maker, radio, dysan fan, TV etc.
- Darril (10/5): Fantastic - Fantastic service and stay. Very nice food
- Jamie (10/5): Romantic Getaway - A wholesome, comfortable, country style get away tucked away from the business of the main town. A perfect place for a get away of any occasion! Everything you could need and more paired with quirky design and attentive staff.
- David (2/5): Noise - Everything marred by loud music from 10pm and noisy punters until the early hours. Good bits forgotten after a lousy night's sleep.
- Sally (6/5): - We stayed here for my husbands birthday. We waited 10 mins at the bar for someone to appear to show us to our room. The room was shabby, the curtains had fallen down and the cleanliness was poor. Supper was average with a few dishes not available, the staff were pleasant but looked bored sitting down playing on their phones.
All in all it was expensive and not an enjoyable stay!
- Kristen (10/5): Great dog friendly stay - We had a brilliant stay at the dog friendly Bunk Inn, check in was easy and everyone was very welcoming to us and our puppy!
- anthony (8/5): - Stylish and comfortable rooms abobe a country pub/restaurant.
- Verified traveler (6/5): I was hopeful, it disappointed - When I first arrived, I had high hopes. The room seemed nicely decorated, the bed was comfortable, and there were several nice touches, such as a wireless charger by the bed and a Nespresso machine for coffee.
Then the cold light of day came, and I noticed how dirty the room was. There was thick dust along the edges of the bedroom carpet and behind the bathroom door, as well as rogue hairs on the bathroom sink. There also appeared to be a speck of what looked like blood on one of the pillow cases. Next, it transpired that none of the 'nice touches' I'd previously identified actually worked. The wireless charger was broken. They gave me a new one but it wasn't powerful enough to charge an iPhone (my diagnosis was that the USB wall plug didn't have a large enough wattage). The Nespresso machine also didn't work, emitting a red flashing light whenever I tried to make a coffee. I reported this to them on my way out for the day, and they said somebody would try to fix it.
When I returned that evening, it was evident that somebody had tried to fix the machine, as it had been moved. When I tried it, it still didn't work. When asked how my stay had been when checking out, I brought up the Nespresso machine, and suggested it might need descaling. I was told: "we did that last week, they're just a bit temperamental at the moment". Unsure what this meant, I waited, hoping for some kind of redemption; maybe to be offered a coffee from behind the bar. The moment passed. I left.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fab - Loved it. Great decor, great service, great food. Would definitely stay again
- West Environmental SVS Lt (10/5): Cosy and Friendly Accomodation - Lovely overnight stay. Great welcome. Food in the bar area was delicious and cosy atmosphere. Room 9 was lovely and spacious and tastefully decorated, little patio area to side overlooking the garden/bbq area.
- Linda (6/5): Comfotable and friendly - First night was awful, we stayed in a ground floor room. The floorboards above creaked and the people in the room thumped around all night. We complained and we were moved upstairs without question. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
- Julie (10/5): - The manager was very helpful and so hardworking he was working all the time, we found the bunk inn very cosy, comfortable with a fantastic atmosphere, the food was very good it made a lovely weekend thankyiu
- Malcolm (6/5): Ok hotel - This is a quaint village hotel. Unfortunately there was a damage wall by the door that had been repaired badly and the shower was dirty and there was a bad smell from the drains in the bathroom
- Charlotte (2/5): Wouldn’t go back - Stains on the carpet , light shinning under the main door as there was a big gap, so had to put cushions there to stop light coming through . Bed really uncomfortable and pillows flat . Bad mould and grime in the bathroom tiles. There was a brown stain on one on the bath sheets so my husband couldn’t shower as mine was wet. Thick dust on the outskirts of the bedroom carpet. Thought we would get bottled water unopened but got a reusable bottle with tap water in it. The continental breakfast was poor ,pastries burnt no yoghurts or cheese or meats . Only option for fruit was apple or orange. The evening bar staff were friendly only had a drink so can’t comment on the dinner.
- DM (10/5): Excellent Choice - Just had 3 night stay with group of friends. Excellent location, plenty of parking. Excellent spacious rooms. Well looked after in the bar and restaurant by Brian and Grace and Didier the Chef. Very, very friendly. Believe building to have some renovations next year which will only improve the whole experience.
- colin (8/5): Stay and dog - Staff were helpful. House keepers good. Oldish property needs some attention but takes time now. Room comfortable includes bed. FOOD. Good food well cooked and presented. Price about right for Newbury area. Good chef's. One error I got a very over done burger but the the rest of my party loved the food so I did not want make it an issue then so left it to the morning, a bit late perhaps. It was an error after all. ROUND UP. Good place to stay ideal place to walk the dog. Plenty of parking. Plenty of areas to sit outside Yes I would consider staying again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good place to bunk! - Very clean and comfortable room. Excellent restaurant and friendly staff.
- David (6/5): Disappointing Trip - Very nice place- accommodation good - very disappointed with restaurant as kitchen was closed down when we came in for dinner at 8.00pm so made do other cold starters only also closed for breakfast just a couple of cereals and no real effort made very disappointing
- Nicola (6/5): Customer service was shocking. - The hotel itself was very nice and comfy however the customer service from the staff was absolutely shocking. It spoiled the stay!
- Geoff (8/5): Great Value for Money - Although the pub itself was closed The accommodation was open and a continental breakfast supplied.
Exceptional value for the money.
Would have be nice to be told that Room 8 is around the back of the building as it was dark when I arrived and didn't notice until I'd circumnavigated the building.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really lovely place to stay, clean comfortable and would stay there again
- Aaron (10/5): - Room was a great value. Pub food was very good, but on the expensive side.
- Marie (10/5): Perfect cosy Inn ! - It's the 2nd time we stay there. It's great and very confy. Great service, very nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely little pub/hotel - Room and bar were great. Nice setting. Only slight downside is pub noise/music from below when in the room, however, this did stop at 11pm closing time.
- Annie (10/5): Lovely pub stay in the countryside - Really lovely stay - great rooms and great food. A lovely breakfast too
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great meal and room was spacious and clean. Staff very helpful and service excellent. On a sunny afternoon the garden was a bit messy and in need of a bit of tlc however a good experience.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Could be better.. - The Manager was very helpful and friendly; made us feel very welcome. It is some years since I visited the Bunk Inn and unfortunately this time the food was very disappointing - in the past it has always been good. The humous starter and the Thai Curry with Chicken were not good or enjoyable.
The service at breakfast was lacking. We were not told about the juice/cereals etc. We asked about milk for our tea and we were told 'it's over there'. We had to use the huge milk jug which was for the cereal and then pass it between us and another table! Luckily it wasn't busy!
Checking out was a challenge. I think all of this was due to a lack of staff training.
- Adam (8/5): - Great little place in a great location if you want it quiet! Food a tad expensive.
